A Timeline of Lindsay's Many Professional 'Last Chances'

$
0
0

Even by Lindsay Lohan standards, 2011 was a rough year, as the starlet spent most of her time hopping among court, court-mandated community service, jail, and the Playboy offices. As you know if you have ever glanced at Us Weekly, Lohan’s legal and behavioral issues have made her almost unemployable, and she has taken to starring in weird art films and New Zealand airline commercials (plus, of course, Playboy) to pay the bills. But according to Lohan, that all ends this weekend, when she’ll host Saturday Night Live and prove to the world that she’s ready to work again. Or, as her naysayers predict, she’ll host Saturday Night Live and prove that she’s an unsalvageable train wreck. It's being painted as a make-or-break appearance, a last-ditch effort to save a flailing career, and this all feels very familiar. Because the truth of the matter is that over the past six years, Lindsay Lohan has had many last chances, each one hyped that way. Every new Lindsay Lohan movie announcement is her giant "comeback," and then it always flames out. She is almost refreshingly reliable in this respect! So in case this weekend doesn't go as planned, Vulture now presents a brief history lesson on all Lindsay Lohan's many attempted career revivals, to remind you that this happens all the time. She’ll be back. It might be on QVC, but she’ll still be here.

2006: A Prairie Home Companion
In 2005, Lohan partied her way through the filming of Herbie Fully Loaded, a Disney movie starring a talking car. Her personal problems overshadowed the family film, and she caught a lot of flack for hanging out with Paris Hilton (and losing a frightening amount of weight). A Prairie Home Companion, starring Meryl Streep and Robert Altman, was supposed to put the focus back on Lindsay’s acting. Unfortunately, it only grossed $20 million, and none of the people who went to see an ensemble movie based on an NPR show were the people writing the tabloids. Also, her character was a little crazy.

2007: Georgia Rule
Another respectable cast (Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman) that was supposed to boost Lohan’s pedigree, another little-seen (and poorly reviewed) movie that couldn’t overcome Lohan’s off-screen antics. It didn’t help that Jane Fonda bad-mouthed Lohan’s on-set behavior. It definitely didn't help that Lohan was arrested for the first of two 2007 DUIs about two weeks after the movie’s release. She was sent to rehab shortly thereafter.

2008: Ugly Betty
Lohan’s four-episode stint on the ABC drama followed her two trips to rehab and the first of her jail sentences (she spent 84 minutes in prison in November 2007). This is also right around the time that she appeared in the pages of New York as Marilyn Monroe. She looked healthy! (And exposed.) She started dating Samatha Ronson! Surely the bigger work would return soon.

2009: Labor Pains
Oops, nope, this one just got sent to straight to ABC Family.

2010: Inferno
After breaking up with SamRon and being dropped from a couple of films (and also suing the E-Trade baby), Lohan landed the role of Linda Lovelace. She then promptly skipped out on a DUI hearing, showed up to court with fingernail messages that read "Fuck U," and got herself sent back to jail. She lost the role a few months later.

2010: Machete
In which Lohan wears a nun's habit alongside Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, and Steven Seagal, among others. So many chances to network, you might be thinking! You'd be thinking wrong.

2010: VMAs appearance
Lohan gamely showed up at MTV’s Video Music Awards to mock herself and her "I get drunk and go to jail a lot" reputation. Changing the conversation! Self-awareness! Look, insurers, this woman is ready to work.

2011: Eyes of a Dreamer and Gotti: Three Generations
And then the necklace theft happened in February. As Lohan bounced in and out of court, she was connected to two projects, a Charles Manson movie (in which she would play Mason's famous victim Sharon Tate) and a John Gotti biopic for which she was hired, fired, and then re-hired.  Neither has made it to production.

2011: Playboy
After a few more trips to jail, poor Lindsay, with nary a career prospect and legal bills to pay, signed up for the cover of Playboy. It sold very well.

2012: SNL and the Liz Taylor movie
After this weekend's festivities, Lindsay will play Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime movie, as long as she stays out of court. Stay out of court, Lindsay, we beg you! We don't watch too much QVC.

'She's done': Lindsay Lohan Saturday Night Live spot gets brutally critiqued on Twitter

$

In the modern world of social networking people can post their reaction to events almost instantaneously.

And unfortunately for Lindsay Lohan, celebrities and armchair critics alike were lining up to slate her Saturday Night Live appearance on Twitter.

The 25-year-old's rambling performance was one of the hottest subjects on the website, and people were not pulling any punches.

Perhaps the most damning statement was one of the most economical.

Disgusted Fox Boogie said: ‏'Lindsay Lohan('s) done. Lost it.'

Plenty of others used her performance as an opportunity to create some comedy material.

Award-winning comedian Andy Borowitz was one of the first to stick the boot in.

He posted an imaginary quote attributed to Lana del Rey which said: '‏I can't believe SNL would let Lindsay Lohan embarrass herself like this.'

Cliff Skighwalker ‏said: 'Y'all see Lindsay Lohan reading her lines on SNL? Trashy.'

While Kurt D. Soller ‏said: 'The only thing Lindsay Lohan seems addicted to is the SNL cue cards.'

Perhaps the harshest gag at her expense came from a user named Drunk Enough, who said: 'This may be the first time Lindsay Lohan had trouble doing lines. '

Some people were even trying to make excuses as to why the Mean Girls actress (lol) was so bad on the show:

Thomas Brewster said: 'Lindsay Lohan is obviously reading from cue cards and unprepared. Too many interviews this week?'

Not everyone was using it as an excuse to lay into the former child star, with some saying how depressing her appearance was. Brandon Wilson said:‏ 'Don't know if I can handle SNL. Lohan makes me sad. She had talent.'

LINDSAY LOHAN I DIDN'T BOMB on 'Saturday Night Live'

Love it or hate it, there's at least one person who thinks Lindsay Lohan did a great job on "Saturday Night Live" last night ... and that's Lindsay herself.

Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ she understands it wasn't a perfect show, but she feels proud of the episode. We're told there were several last minute changes -- including ditching her singing monologue in favor of one with cameos from Jimmy Fallon and Jon Hamm (see below).

Our sources say Lindsay was excited to be back working and really missed being a part of the action.

According to our sources, Lindsay understands people are going to bash her performance regardless ... but she feels she did the best she could do.

Lindsay Lohan Snl Stint Gets Slaughtered By Critics

Lindsay Lohan returned to the screen last night (3 Mar 2012) by hosting 'Saturday Night Live'. However in the wake of her stint as host, Lindsay Lohan has been criticised for her performance.
In a series of skits, Lohan poked fun at all of her past demeanours. She opened the night stating: 'I feel lucky and grateful to be here tonight. And that's why I really want to thank all of my friends at SNL who trusted me enough to have me back.' Comedians such as Kenan Thompson and Kristen Wiig joined her for mockery as Thompson asked to check her eyes and Wiig turned a hug into a full body check for drugs, screaming 'She's clean!'.
Whilst fans argued that the performance was solid, reviews have come out tepid. TVLine states:

'"I was genuinely hoping she'd score some big laughs as host of this week's 'Saturday Night Live'. Unfortunately for the troubled actress, however, there's only so much one can do with setups built around prison-rape jokes or the sight of Fred Armisen in drag getting repeatedly hit by a car.' Entertainment Weekly even questioned if she was the worst host of the year whilst Washington Post claimed: 'In essence, this was hardly a disaster on par with, say, Lana Del Rey. But Lohan also didn't fully reclaim her status as a young comic performer worthy of casting in major Hollywood projects.'

Lindsay Lohan will next be seen in 'InAPPropiate Comedy' alongside Rob Schneider, scheduled for release later this year.

Benedict Cumberbatch/The Hobbit post!

Benedict Cumberbatch talks making The Hobbit

Talking from Elton John's Oscar-viewing party (alright for some: we just watched the ceremony in our lounge with an industrial-sized vat of tea), he spoke about the technical process involved in playing a dragon, and his relationship with the cast and crew.

On his Hobbit experience, Sherlock star Cumberbatch said, "I was very lucky [to work] with Pete [Jackson]."

"As far as the experience, what an extraordinary one it was because at the time I was in my work, I was in isolation with him and this incredible tag team. And at the very cool place with that technology doing mo-cap for two characters, Smaug the dragon and another character, which will remain nameless, and it was an awful lot of fun."

"It's a sort of wonderful ongoing process," he added. "I spent a lot of time recording voice as well as doing movements. So, it was sort of freeing; it was fun. It was like playing a game.

"It's going to be an amazing film; it's going to be a real treat. I watched The Lord Of The Rings again before I started working, and the way those films grow in depth of craft on every level are extraordinary. Their mark is for that."

And on working with his Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman (who plays Bilbo), Cumberbatch said: "It was great. I got to hang out with him, and I kept a straight face for a bit and then I started giggling because I know Martin, I don't know Bilbo.

"For Martin to be sitting there playing Bilbo is amazing. He's going to be amazing, he's going to be fantastic in this film."

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on 14 December 2012. We're possibly even more excited about it than Cumberbatch is.

CHRISTINA HENDRICKS My Phone Was HACKED

Busy day in the world of naked photo leaks ... just hours after Olivia Munn's allegedly naked body hit the web, a set of pics has surfaced online showing what appears to be a topless Christina Hendricks ... but Hendricks' rep insists, the breasts aren't hers.

Christina's rep tells TMZ, the "Mad Men" star's phone WAS indeed hacked recently ... and multiple self-shots were stolen -- including several showing a busty Hendricks barely dressed, without make-up, presumably at home.

But the rep insists, the one topless picture -- purportedly showing the actress' bare ample bosom -- is NOT Christina. It's an impostor.

Christina's rep tells TMZ, she doesn't know who hacked her phone -- but the proper authorities have been notified and an investigation is underway.

OLIVIA MUNN nude Photo Is NOT Me!!!

The full-frontal nude photo circulating around the Internet today purporting to be Olivia Munn is a phony -- this according to sources extremely close to Olivia Munn.

Several pics hit the web today -- appearing to show Olivia in various states of undress ... pink lingerie, a black bra, a white bra, a pink bikini, a low-cut v-neck ... and then fully nude.

Sources tell TMZ, several of the shots are legit -- namely the black bra, the bikini, the v-neck ... all of which Olivia has previously posted on her blog or Twitter. But according to sources, the ones where you can't see her face are 100% fake ... including the nude shot.

We're told someone with a similar body to Olivia is taking provocative photos and trying to pass them off as the real thing -- why ... we have no idea.

So far, no official word from Olivia's camp.

'PROJECT X' STAR I Once Banged 3 Chicks ... in a REAL PORNO!

He looks vaguely familiar ... but you can't place exactly where the hell you saw the nerdy guy in glasses from "Project X" before -- well here's a hint ... he banged three smoking hot chicks in a popular porno you watched.

His name's Jonathan Daniel Brown and he plays JB in the new Todd Phillips movie -- his first big acting gig -- but TMZ has learned, he made his on-screen debut about three years ago ... in a slightly less popular title ... "Nerd Hunting," a Bang Bros. production.

Sources close to Jonathan tell TMZ he wasn't gunning for a career in porn at the time -- he was just looking for some first time on-screen experience ... "It was just kids being kids."

Nothing to be ashamed about either ... the girls in the porn flick are ridiculously hot -- and we're told JB's still got the magic touch, attracting serious female attention ever since the studio began screening "Project X" ... a movie that's already been hailed as an instant classic. Plus it did well in midnight showings, so a return to porn won't be needed anytime soon.

So there you have it -- Jonathan Brown ... the nerd you wish you could be.

50 Cent's former G-Unit bandmate, real name David Brown, was driving in Nashville, Tennessee when an unidentified gunman passed by in a white Chevrolet and opened fire on Buck's SUV, hitting it 11 times. Young Buck and a second passenger both escaped unharmed, according to local police, who have launched an investigation into the shooting. The troubled rapper had spent the night before filming a new video and hosting a cookout for fans.

The former G-Unit rapper was driving an SUV in Nashville when a white Chevy Tahoe pulled alongside and opened fire, reports WSMV-TV Nashville. Eleven shots hit Young Buck’s ride but he was unharmed. However, a woman riding in the passenger side was shot in the shoulder.

A bullet grazed the shoulder of Kenyetta Rainey early Sunday morning while she was riding in a Cadillac Escalade driven by her boyfriend. The shooting occurred at 3:30am this morning. The woman who was shot was taken to Vanderbilt Hospital and has already been released.

Young Buck has not commented.

GLAAD Rips Actor Kirk Cameron for Remarks on Homosexuality

Former "Growing Pains" star Kirk Cameron's negative comments on homosexuality and gay marriage, made Friday on CNN's "Pier Morgan Tonight," have drawn a rapid response from GLAAD.
Cameron said he thought homosexuality was "unnatural."

"I think that it's detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization," the actor told Morgan.

Cameron, who is an evangelical Christian, also spoke out against gay marriage.

"Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don't think anyone else should either," Cameron said. "So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don't."

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation issued a statement Saturday in response to the actor's appearance on the CNN program.

"In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character," Herndon Graddick, senior director of programs at GLAAD, wrote "Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation."

Graddick also addressed Cameron's remarks regarding gay marriage.

"With an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That's not 'redefining' anything."

In brief remarks to TMZ Saturday night, Morgan called Cameron "brave" to voice his beliefs. Morgan said he feels Cameron "was honest to what he believed" even if most people find his views to be "antiquated."

Game Of Thrones Season 2: “You’ll start to like Sansa Stark”
By JAMES HOARE
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Speaking exclusively to SciFiNow at the DVD/Blu-ray launch for Game Of Thrones: The Complete First Season (out 5 March 2012, priced £25.99 and £36.99), the Stark girls, Sophie Turner (Sansa) and Maisie Williams (Arya) dropped a few teasers as to what to expect from the second series.

“Season Two is going to be bigger and better than the first one, definitely,” enthuses Turner.
Although there’s been an influx of new cast members, this has come at the expense of those killed in Game Of Thrones Season One – including Lord Eddard ‘Ned’ Stark (Sean Bean), the on-screen father of Sansa and Arya Stark.

“It was a shame to lose Sean,” agrees Turner. “We’ve got a lot more cast members now but he was family!”

“We had such a close relationship with him that it was nice having him there,” picks up Maisie Williams, “and it was sad to see him go.”

While Arya reacted to the events of Game Of Thrones Season One with a pragmatism that her father would have approved of (OP Note: LOL BECAUSE NED STARK WAS "PRAGMATIC"?! W H A T), Sansa increasingly found herself stuck between a rock and a hard place, manipulated by the Lannisters into turning against her kin.

As her bethrothed, the increasingly cruel Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) tightens his grip, Sansa will start to draw a line, promises Turner, and hopefully keep viewers from screaming at the screen in annoyance.

“Sansa, I think, really has a rough time in Season Two at the hands of Joffrey, but she grows a lot stronger,” the actress confirms. “In the first season some people saw her as a bit annoying, a bit snotty – I personally didn’t! I think this season you’ll start to like her.”

Game Of Thrones Season Two begins April 2 on Sky Atlantic HD.
