General Hospital Stars Talk JASAM vs MCBAM! “It’s one of those embarrassment of riches things because Steve Burton and Kelly Monaco have chemistry and Kelly and Michael Easton have great chemistry,” “GH” executive producer Frank Valentini recently told AccessHollywood.com
Although there’s been just a kiss for the two characters, so far, even Michael said he’s aware the little gestures between Sam and John has been heating up the summer soap screen.
“Kelly and I were talking about it. It’s a strange storyline for daytime, it’s almost moving at like a Merchant-Ivory film pace, where small gestures are very important,” Michael told Access at TCAs. “When you don’t have a lot and you can’t just start making out or going to bed, it becomes about small gestures, it’s sort of like ‘Remains of the Day,’ or ‘Age of Innocence,’ where a touch means something.”
“One thing about working with Kelly, you have that very sort of hyperactive sense of, if she touches you, you feel it. Whereas maybe [with] another actor, if they were maybe to do the same thing, brush against [you], it’d either feel contrived or you might disregard it, but I think every time I feel a closeness with her, it registers in some way,” he said.
While there are plenty of fans hoping for a Sam-John romance, just as many want to see Kelly’s Sam and Steve Burton’s Jason repair their broken relationship.
“I don’t,” Steve replied when Access asked him if he knows where the story line is going.
“I think Ron [Carlivati, ‘GH’s’ head writer] and Frank want to keep people either rooting for one couple or the other. So it’s totally, ‘Are Jason and Sam gonna get back together? It looks like they are and then something happens. It looks like they are and then something else happens.’ And then I go confide in Elizabeth and something happens and she’s with McBain and something happens. It’s definitely interesting and it’s definitely mixed everything up.”And for fans of Jason and Elizabeth, Frank hinted there is more interaction between those two characters in the cards.
“Yes, we’re obviously exploring that… Becky and Steve are just magnetic,” Frank told Access.
“And it’s a different kind of love, it’s a friendship love, it’s an eternal love. It has so many prongs to it that’s interesting for the writers to write. And also, on the flip side, Jason and Sam have the same kind of thing — their love is a little bit more on fire.”Graham Shiels Heading to ‘The Young and the Restless’!Soap Opera Network has learned Shiels will be portraying the character “Moran” in his scenes with Braden and Francis.
Previous, Tuesday, August 2 3:07 PM ET: Soap Opera Network has learned that actor Graham Shiels, who most recently appeared in an episode of TNT’s “Leverage,” has booked a recurring role on CBS’ “The Young and the Restless.”
While his character name is being kept under wraps, Soap Opera Network has learned that the role may vacillate between perceived enemy or ally and that Shiels will appear in scenes with Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) and Genie Francis (Genevieve Atkinson). His first airdate is scheduled for Monday, September 10.
Best known for his stint as Cody Paul on ABC’s “General Hospital” and its SOAPnet spin-off “General Hospital: Night Shift,” Shiels has also appeared in episodes of CBS primetime dramas “CSI: Miami” and “The Mentalist,” HBO’s “True Blood,” NBC’s “The Event” and ABC’s” “The Whole Truth,” among others.
“The Young and the Restless” recently announced the appointment of former “GH” and “Night Shift” season one executive producer Jill Farren Phelps as its new EP. She replaced Maria Arena Bell.
American Media Buys ‘Soap Opera Digest’!I thought American Media already owned the 37-year-old magazine devoted to soap operas. But it turns out that the company has just been operating it for the last year or so under license from Source Interlink Media. Source Interlink bought Soap Opera Digest in 2007 from Primedia, which bought it in 1991 from News Corp, which bought it in 1989 from Network Publishing Corp, which bought it in 1980 from co-founders Angela and Jerome Shapiro.
American Media is just getting around to announcing the deal that it says closed on July 20, and took effect on June 1. Stephanie Sloane remains Editor-In-Chief and David Jackson the Group Publisher. “Soap Opera Digest is a very important strategic acquisition for [American Media] as it fits perfectly in the Celebrity & Entertainment Group,” CEO David Pecker says. That group includes the Star, National Enquirer, OK!, Country Weekly, and Radar Online.
The company didn’t disclose financial terms, but says that the weekly magazine has a circulation of more than 200,000. That’s down from more than 1M in 2001.
New KATIE promo: "You're Invited!" I felt very glamorous: Shenaz Treasurywala!Shenaz Treasurywala, who is shooting for a film in the city, is enjoying the art of balancing living between Mumbai and New York. While Mumbai is home, the actress does not mind exploring other cities for work and is currently kicked about doing the American show 'One Life to Live' in New York.
The actress says, "ABC studios is in New York. I felt very glamorous rubbing shoulders with people like Whoopi Goldberg who shot for my show. I was with Jennifer Aniston in the elevator (in my studio); Lady Gaga was in our building too, though I couldn't get a glimpse of her."
She has shot 60 episodes of 'One Life To Live'. "It's been a very exciting time. The world is a small place these days and in 18 hours I'm able to be on the other side of the globe. Flying to New York takes as much time as going on a bus to Goa. I'm used to the travel! It exhilarates me. "
B&B's Kanan Married!During a trip to Italy in July, Sean Kanan (ex-Deacon, B&B/Y&R) exchanged vows with Michele Vega. "We covered probably 15 different cities and small towns and had our honeymoon in Sicily," smiles the actor. "We had an unbelievable time."
'Hart of Dixie' Taps Guiding Light alum Laura Bell Bundy for Season 2!It's going to be choppy waters on Hart of Dixie.
Country singer and Broadway actress Laura Bell Bundy has been cast as Shelby, a potential love interest for George (Scott Porter), The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. She is expected to appear in at least two episodes.
Shelby's appearance in Bluebell will ruffle feathers, as her entry comes after George and Lemon's (Jaime King) wedding was called off following news of Lemon's affair with the town's mayor Lavon (Cress Williams) and George's unexpected visit at Zoe's (Rachel Bilson) at the end of season one.
Bundy made her Broadway debut in Hairspray as Amber von Tussle, before starring as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde: The Musical. On the television side, she has appeared on How I Met Your Mother and Cold Case. Earlier this year, Bundy released a single called "That's What Angels Do."
Hart of Dixie returns at 8 p.m. Oct. 2 on The CW.
LONGMIRE star Bailey Chase chats about As The World Turns!AX: You were on AS THE WORLD TURNS from 2003-2004. A lot of actors say that acting on soaps is the hardest acting work there is.
CHASE: I feel like – for me and probably for most actors – it’s boot camp, at least in the beginning. It was a great training ground for me, I logged a lot of hours in front of the camera and at that point, I felt a real growth, like I got over myself a little bit, my vanity and things like that. It’s about just showing up and the work. I feel like at that point, by the time I was done with that, it was like, “Okay, I’m a professional actor, this is what I do” [laughs]. And I felt like I earned it at that point. It’s hard doing daytime because of the demands. And I think that’s why the finished product suffers a little bit, because there’s never any time.
Greg Vaughan Starts As DAYS's Eric Brady!Greg Vaughan (ex-Lucky, GH; ex-Diego, Y&R) began taping his new role as DAYS's Eric Brady today. The actor posted a photo of the NBC Burbank lot where DAYS is taped, along with the tweet, "Here's to new beginning's!!"
Vaughan is expected to begin airing in November. He left Port Charles as GH's Lucky in 2009, when Jonathan Jackson returned to the role.
Meanwhile, Eric Brady was last played by Jensen Ackles (SUPERNATURAL) in 2000.
BONNIE FRANKLIN INTERVIEW!The Young and the Restless welcomes Bonnie Franklin to the cast as Sister Celeste. Franklin, best known for her role in the CBS comedy One Day at a Time, will begin airing Friday, August 24th.
We sat down with Franklin to discuss everything from the transition to the shooting pace of daytime television to playing the role of a nun. Check out the interview below to learn more about the latest addition to the Y&R family!
On landing this role...“I got a phone call and they said, ‘You want to do Y&R?’ And I said, ‘Well okay.’”
“I’m at a stage in my life where I say yes to a lot of things. I’ve never done [a] Soap before.”
Fast-pace shooting schedule...“I was warned beforehand [that it was a fast paced work environment]. I love it!”
“…So far, [I’ve worked with] Eric Braeden and Genie Francis. Who could be better to work with? They’ve been around for a bazillion years, they know exactly what they are doing.”
“…It is a well oiled machine. They say it is going to be fast. Sure enough, you… rehearse it once and you tape it once and boom on to the next scene.”
“I did an episode of [a] show [once that was] like doing brain surgery. …You keep rehearsing it then doing it for an audience, then fixing it and doing it for an audience; I mean it was just murder.
“This is much more pleasant. And the result… is just as good. So, I am having a good time with it. It’s fun.”
“I don’t find [the speed of it] so unusual. …I’ve had a theater company for 12 years. …We do concert staged readings of Classical and Contemporary American Plays called CCAP. We have to pull it together in a week and then perform a really great play. In a way, that’s a short hand. And in a way, doing a soap is a short hand as well. You are not delving deeply into anything because you don’t have the time.”
“[CCAP is] going into its 12th season. We’re very excited about it. We use great actors and fabulous plays. And do it for juniors and seniors in high school who mostly have never been to a play before.
“[CCAP is] written into the curriculum of many schools within the greater LAUSD. It’s pretty great.”
On the current storyline...“I am coming into this as a totally new, fresh character. I am not even involved, quite honestly, with knowing what is going on with [Victor (Eric Braeden)]. I just greet them as I see them as my character meets them.”
“I’m playing a modern day nun—blue jeans and shirts—who works at a mission in a water-front area helping homeless people, [and] people who seem to be in trouble. Helping them kind of pull it together so they can move forward.”
“I find this man, [Victor], is in trouble and I try to help him. And I don’t trust this woman, [Genevieve (Genie Francis)], that I meet.”
Getting into character for this role...“It’s pretty straightforward. I have played a nun before. [For] some [reason] people… think [that because of my] red hair, I’m Irish or Italian—I’ve played a nun in a movie. So it is not hard at all. I just don’t swear.”
On fiestiness...“Yeah, she is. …She’s a strong lady who knows what she wants to do. I have written my own back story. I know where she came from and who she is and what her life is like, but it has nothing to do with anyone’s reality but my own.”
On making a more perminent stay...“Sure. I’m in a mood in my life where I am saying yes to a lot of things. I’ve been having a very good time.”
“I can’t imagine this character [being around] for a long time, but who knows? I may be reincarnated to something else. I actually don’t know. But the simple answer is, sure.”
On friends being Y&R fans...“Yes as a matter of fact! It’s not something I ask somebody… but I have been surprised. There are millions out there, I mean I don’t know millions [of people] but I know many who have said how pleased they are that I am doing this.”
B&B Casting New Role!Looks like the No. 2 soap is beefing up its hunk quotient: B&B has put out a casting call for a new, hot guy. The description reads: "Male. Caucasian. 25-28 years old. Heart throb. Very Masculine. Edgy. Not afraid to get the job done. Bit of a cad. CONTRACT ROLE."
Peter Reckell: "Nobody’s Going to Miss Bo More Than Me"!It’s the end of an era for Days of Our Lives and actor Peter Reckell. After 23 years as Beauregard Aurelius Brady, known simply as Bo to friends, family and fans, the actor taped his final scenes on Tuesday, July 25. He spent the day before cleaning out his dressing room at the show's Burbank studio complex.
“I’ve been here for two hours, and I just got through the second drawer in my desk,” chuckles Reckell, while in the midst of cleaning up and moving out. He found a few treasures among the paper clips, pencils and assorted junk; including a card from deceased co-star Frances Reid (ex-Alice) that read: "Keep on acting, you’re good at it."
Reckell has mixed emotions about leaving Days. On the one hand, it’s an exciting opportunity to move on, explore and see what other challenges are out there. On the other, saying goodbye to Bo isn’t easy.
“Nobody’s going to miss Bo more than me,” insists Reckell, who’s already begun dealing with the separation anxiety. “Today, I got on Twitter just to tell people that these last few days have been trying. The weekend I kind of took a break, because it was so difficult.”
Before heading to the studio, Reckell had a heart-to-heart with his wife, Kelly Moneymaker. “I said, ‘It’s astounding the support and love that I’ve been getting over these last few days, these last few weeks,” says Reckell, referring to the time leading up to his departure from the soap. “I have the best fans. To know that these people -- yes, they’re going to miss Bo – but that they will be there for me, if I’m doing other projects... And I will keep them posted, as I’m going through the next phase of my life, of what’s happening.”
Those devoted fans sent Reckell dozens of goodbye gifts to commemorate and thank him for his portrayal of Bo, a character that catapulted to daytime fame when he joined the soap in 1983. “There were bottles of wine and cakes and chocolates... All those kinds of celebratory stuff,” he recounts. Among the cakes, there was one decorated with pictures of Bo from 1983 to 2012 and another with photos of Bo and Hope (actress Kristian Alfonso) that read: Holding out “Hope” for our hero to return. We Love You Peter, Team Bope!
“The fans also sent me an eco tour of Orange County,” continues Reckell. “You read it, and it’s quite astounding. The preserves, the oceans, the bird watching, and all that kind of stuff that you really can do in Orange County. Who’d have thunk it? So that’s really cool.”
Cast mate Peggy McCay, who portrays Reckell’s TV mom. Caroline, sent him off with a goodbye present, too. “Peggy gave me a lovely little gift; cologne and things,” notes Reckell. “She’s just so sweet. She always gives Loden gifts on the holidays and on her birthday. She’s like a grandmom. She’s so classy. I just love her.”
As for Reckell’s immediate plans after exiting Days, he’s embarking on a few trips with his wife Kelly and their daughter, Loden. “I’m going to go spend a couple of weeks with my folks in Michigan,” he shares. “Then, we’ll spend a couple of weeks with Kelly’s parents in Alaska. Then, we’re going to go down to Costa Rica for some time. We’re just trying to figure out what we’re going to do with the rest of our lives... what’s next for us.”
Fans of Reckell, no doubt, are hoping that whatever’s “next” includes a new acting project for their favorite leading man, so that they won’t be missing him for very long.
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS' Billy Miller as Gabe Watson in 'Fatal Honeymoon'!Billy Miller won an Emmy in 2010 for his portrayal of Billy Abbott in THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. Another award may be in his future with his chilling performance as Gabe Watson in the upcoming Lifetime movie, Fatal Honeymoon. And now We Love Soaps has an exclusive clip of a scene from the film!
Based on a true story, Fatal Honeymoon tells the shocking story and controversy surrounding a newlywed who tragically dies on her dream honeymoon and the subsequent investigation as to whether or not her husband was guilty of killing her.
In the film, Alabama couple Gabe Watson (Miller) and his new bride, 26 year-old Tina Watson (Amber Clayton), married just 11 days, go on their dream honeymoon to scuba dive near Australia's Great Barrier Reef, where Tina drowns in what appears to be a freak accident. With authorities puzzled over Gabe's inconsistent statements about Tina's death, her father Tommy Thomas (Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated actor Harvey Keitel) begins to suspect Gabe may have murdered his daughter.
CBS Nears End Of THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL Stylist's $6M Slander Suit!A Los Angeles judge on Friday said he’s inclined to dismiss CBS Corp. from a $6 million defamation lawsuit accusing THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL producers of trumping up criticisms of the soap opera’s lead hairdresser to justify his termination.
“There’s no dispute about certain issues, certain issues your client has even admitted,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Rico told plaintiff Carlos Pelz’s attorney Friday, pointing to a purportedly libelous memorandum listing producers’ complaints about the hairdresser.
Peter Bergman on the regime change at THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS!Everything is sure to shift in Genoa City, with Jill Farren Phelps and Josh Griffith coming in and former showrunner Maria Arena Bell pushed out: What are your thoughts about the regime change?
It's always difficult to transition in anything. It will come with some difficulties, but frankly we've got a seasoned veteran coming in and we have in Josh a writer we're familiar with who did great things to help us in the past, so you go on with a kind of happiness just being here.
An essential player like you may not be concerned, but at a time like this, is there tension in the cast about who might be staying or going?
Frankly, the tension goes much higher than that - what writers, what producers will stay? It doesn't affect the actors quite as quickly. We have some people walking around looking a little dazed, but it's an exciting time on the show. We're heading into a really cool time, with this giant new commitment to making CBS [daytime] this juggernaut, and they're hoping to do it with us. We're thrilled with that.
Has there been any talk about what kind of changes to expect?
We're somewhat in the dark, at this point, but that will be made clear pretty soon.
Before this went down, did it feel like a change needed to be made?
Did I think it was time? I'm never a good person to tell you that. I literally just do my job. I wait for a script to be delivered to my room. The moment I see it, I open it and read it. I find out what's happening next.
Anyone who's ever interviewed you knows you definitely have opinions.
I have very strong opinions, yes. And I hope to god they come up with something for me, but I don't write story. I've gotten in my hair cut by the same person for 20 years. When I sit down and say, "I want a haircut," I get a good haircut. When I say, "Leave it a little longer on the top and tight on the sides," I get a shitty haircut. So I don't write. I want someone to put great stuff in my dressing room and I'll make it work.
How did you feel about the way Josh wrote for Jack during his last run (2006 to 2008)?
Josh wrote for all the characters and always took good care of Jack. Frankly, everybody is rolling the dice on these things. That's true from week to week with the same writer and that's true with transitions to new writers. You hope we're all on the same page. Every once in awhile, though, they come up with one thing – Maria said, "We're going to put you in wheelchair. What do you think of that?" Six months later, I am still in the wheelchair. I thought she was talking about a short-term thing! I've learned so much in this whole time, but that's the nature of things.
What are your hopes for Jack, now?
I hope that Jack always has Jabot. I hope Jack is a center of power on the show. And I hope Jack is always surrounded by family.
Gaskill Goes Dark!!When Emmy nominated Web drama, THE BAY, kicks off its summer special, DARKSIDE OF THE BAY, viewers will learn that there's a whole lot more to Bay City than just rich folks and white sand beaches. Helping to tell the edgy tale will be soap opera veteran, Brian Gaskill (Rafe, PORT CHARLES; Bobby, ALL MY CHILDREN). "The [story] is about the show's younger characters getting wrapped up in this dark world on the other side of the tracks," previews Gaskill. "Lianna (played by Jade Harlow; Jessica, PASSSIONS) gets kind of [involved] in the prostitution ring that my character, Chase, works in as a pimp. I'm not the head honcho, but I work for [him]."
Gaskill has explored his own dark side before while playing AS THE WORLD TURNS' obsessive, BJ Greene, but the actor says that he approached this new character from another direction. "He's very different... laid back and soft spoken," Gaskill suggests. "Somebody who saw the dailies said that it reminded him of Mickey Rourke." The good news is that Gaskill's time in Bay City won't be wrapping up with the dog days of summer.
"Of all the magnificent roles we've seen Gaskill play, this is by far the creepiest," offers series creator Gregori J. Martin. "He was so captivating as Chase that I just had to bring him back for Season 3 of THE BAY [coming this October]." Also debuting in the special will be fellow soap alumni Rib Hillis (Jake, PC), Terri Ivens (Simone, AMC), and Massi Furlan (ex-Giovanni, GENERAL HOSPITAL). DARKSIDE OF THE BAY kicks off on Thursday, August 9, at 12 p.m. EST.
Bad Girls Are Back!!Kimberlin Brown's Sheila terrorized both THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, while Marie Wilson's Meg lost her marbles over on AS THE WORLD TURNS, and now both actresses are about to get a little crazy again!
In last summer's THE BAY spin-off, FAR FROM THE BAY, Wilson appeared on the Web soap as Peter Garrett's adoptive mom who lost her grip after losing custody of him, and Brown played her psychiatrist. And now both characters are set to return in the third season of THE BAY, set to debut in October.
"Yes, both Marie and Kimberlin will be heavily involved in a very intense storyline involving Bay City's matriarch, Sarah Garrett (Mary Beth Evans)," confirms the serial's creator, Gregori J. Martin. "We will get to see both women tap into that nutty side we so enjoyed seeing them play on ATWT, B&B and Y&R!"
Interview: Freddie Smith, Days of Our Lives!Days of Our Lives has been entertaining daytime audiences for 45 years, making it one of the longest running soap operas. While the show has always been popular and covered some crazy plot lines, for a long time it was missing one key aspect: GLBT representation. Until June of 2011, that is, when the show introduced “Sonny Kiriakas,” a gay and proudly out college boy to the fictional town of Salem. Freddie Smith, a 24-year-old Ashtabula, Ohio native, plays Sonny.
Freddie said he was curious to see what the response to this character would be, but he said all the feedback from fans has been positive thus far.
“It’s a part of life and its important to show this part of life,” said Freddie. “I think it was the right thing to do; it’s a step forward. It’s including romance for straight and gay people. The character they have created is so colorful and three-dimensional. He’s such an interesting character.”
Freddie said he often gets asked how he prepared for this role, but he said there is no difference in playing characters with different sexual orientation. He is portraying love either way.
“My preparation was taking the past experience I have had and applying them to the show,” said Freddie.
The character of Sonny showed up to Salem very confident, but in an upcoming plot twist, he becomes a victim of bullying because his attacker, “T,” believes Sonny made Will, another young character on the show, gay.
“It’s very emotional to be bullied. When you go through it it’s a big part of your life,” said Freddie. “I’m hoping I can make an impact and show how bullying negatively affects people and make a difference. I think that everyone will be able to relate to this storyline, so it is important to the show.”
He said that viewers are going to see a different side of Sonny after he experiences being bullied. Freddie mentions that before Sonny came to Salem, he had much tougher time being openly gay. “It brings him back – he thought he was home free. Its disappointing to him,” said Freddie. “He was very bullet proof at first. You’re going to see that he does have flaws. You’re going to see Sonny make mistakes and deal with those mistakes.”
Will struggles with coming on out the show, something viewers didn’t get to experience with Sonny. Freddie said he liked they brought on the second gay storyline to the show, having one character that is extremely comfortable being gay and another that is dealing with the emotional experience of coming out.
“It showed that it’s great to have a support system. It made it easier for him to come out,” said Freddie. “It was a great idea that the show did.”
In July, Freddie spoke to congress during the Children Uniting Nation’s (CUN) seventh annual national conference titled, “Keeping the Promise to Our Children.” He encouraged legislation to be passed on bullying and the importance of keeping physical education in schools.
“I wanted to let people know that parents need to get involved at an early age. They need to understand that it isn’t just funny, it has a negative affect on people later in life,” said Freddie. “It was nice to be around a group of people who are trying to make a difference. It was an amazing experience – I was honored to even be asked to go.”
Freddie said he likes that his roles allow him to also act as a humanitarian and have a voice on political topics. Before playing Sonny, Freddie played the role of Marco on 90210, another openly gay high school student.
“This is a huge topic in society right now. For me, playing these characters, I have more of a platform to speak up,” said Freddie. “I’m very honored I can play roles like this and make a difference.”

Kristoff St. John on backburner status!Hey my peeps! New program for Thursdays. Lets try posting "WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENIN' WITH WORK THIS THURSDAY?". And for those that are offended by the antithesis of Heaven; WHAT THE 'HECK' IS HAPPENIN' WITH WORK THIS THURSDAY?" Ima start this one off.
I'm actually off from work today, even though work at the Y and R Cheeze factory continues without me. I'm grateful for the day off, but honestly? I'd like to be more integrated into the summer fabric of the show. Who said actors over 40 years of age should go into hibernation to the deepest and coldest part of Siberia, while the youngstas get to play in the sunshine. Altho, there are quite a few of the 'over 40' crowd/actors that need their sunscreen and beach towels in Genoa City during the summer months. (these peeps will remain nameless, cuz I'm sure we know who they are) Maybe I've already perfected my 'tan' and need some meditative, 'yoga time' away. Whatever the case, I am grateful and happy to be working/gainfully employed on the only #1 Daytime drama on the planet, "The Young and the Restless". Here's the real kicker; Today? Since it's actually over 100 plus degrees in my neck of the woods, I think I will grab my Ipod, beach towel, and some lemonade and go work on my 'African Man Tan' at the beach... Sans Sunscreen. My real life is much mo betta than my alter egos life. (99.9% of the time) Thank God!Sami runs away with EJ!This week's Soap Opera Digest features an article about what happens to the Salemites after the explosion. Sami is dangling from the catwalk, and EJ can't pull her back up. Sami tells him to let her go, thinking that he'll be able to parent their children. Will arrives and is able to help EJ save Sami. EJ says he's going to go on the run, and Sami says she's going to go with him. Ali Sweeney explains that Sami is being impulsive but also wants to protect EJ, and that she'd "stand in front of him again" until he can prove his innocence. As for Lucas, Sami knew that when she went with EJ, "that would be a deal-breaker for Lucas". She's doing what she thinks is best now and will deal later with whatever happens because of it.
Sami and EJ go to a DiMera hideaway, and they kiss. Ali Sweeney explains that Sami has always been attracted to EJ, so now that what she's done isn't ok with Lucas, she's free to what she wants and it's "impossible to resist". Then EJ gets a call from someone who says they can help prove he's innocent. He leaves and Sami spills something on herself and has to change her clothes and the only thing available is a sexy dress that Silvio got for her. Then Rafe walks in and as Sweeney relates, "There is a lot of baggage and emotion and shared history that comes crashing back down on both of them."
Steffy and Liam get wild!It says Steffy ignores Hope's warning to stay away from Liam. She goes to see him and entices him to have a night out on the town. They party at night clubs and really get into he LA scene. Liam begins to let loose after a few drinks. Later he begins to think of Hope and goes home but Hope is nowhere to be found. Liam begins to wonder if Hope ditched him and goes back to party with Steffy. Liam really parties but this time Steffy finds him in a compromising position.
Chick-fil-A: What It's Really About by Greg Rikaart! The media blitz surrounding Chick-fil-A isn't about chicken sandwiches or Dan Cathy's First Amendment right to speak his mind. Mr. Cathy's company has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which publicly denounces the "impure lifestyle" of the LGBT community.
Furthermore, this company donated money to the Family Research Council, which supports the criminalization of homosexuality and states on their website that they oppose efforts for homosexuals to have equal rights. Can you even imagine -- your neighbor, your friend, your sibling or your child being criminalized for being who they are?
I posted a tweet airing my disappointment in Melissa Reeves (another member of the daytime community) for aligning herself with this company that financially supports the furthering of hatred and bigotry. I did so because I have aligned myself with organizations like GLSEN (the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network) and the HRC (Human Rights Campaign) and I have read too many stories of alienated LGBT kids taking their lives after relentless persecution.
Whether grown up bullies like Dan Cathy and Melissa Reeves realize it or not, they are directly or indirectly telling these vulnerable kids that there is something wrong with them, or they are somehow less than. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm certain of it.
I'd happily talk to Mrs. Reeves about this myself, but alas, she has not responded to me and has blocked me from having access to her twitter account. I have happily engaged in debates with people who have reached out to me in defense of her and/or their own beliefs. The knowledge that I might have the ability to change someone's mind or possibly get them to see the issue from a different perspective is worth the few naysayers who have sent me unkind comments. People often say "agree to disagree.' I think that's a cop-out. Frankly, the stakes in this case are too high to let the conversation end. Let's disagree and talk about it. Maybe I can better understand you and vice versa.
I'm grateful and encouraged that the majority of the feedback I have gotten has been very supportive and positive, and I am happy to use my bit of notoriety to stand up for what is right. Some people have accused me of bullying for expressing my disappointment in Mrs. Reeves. A man named Wayne Self likened this rationale to walking up to a bully on the playground beating up some other kid and then scolding them both for not getting along.
I was having a conversation with some friends last night and someone said "What's the end game on this Chick-fil-A issue?" My hope is that with all the media attention surrounding the issue, Dan Cathy would be open to taking a meeting with my friends Eliza Byard of GLSEN and Chad Griffin of the HRC. Maybe he can walk away from that with a better understanding of why his actions are so hurtful to the LGBT community, particularly the youngest and most vulnerable members of it, and maybe he will think twice about where his tax-deductible donations go.
Until then, I will not be eating at Chik-fil-A. On the occasion that I treat myself to junk food, I'll head out to KFC for some chicken, munch down on some Oreos or some Ben and Jerry's and wash it down with a Venti Iced Vanilla Latte.Ratings for the Week of July 30 – August 3, 2012!(Compared to Last Week/Compared to Last Year)Total Viewers
