On last night’s episode of The Good Wife, FBI agent Lana Delaney (Jill Flint) turned up the heat on Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) by talking to Lemond Bishop (Mike Colter) about the work Kalinda’s done for him, but it was Kalinda who turned up the heat on CBS Standards & Practices with the scene in which she confronted Lana about it.

Being masters of the just-out-of-frame shot, creators Robert and Michelle King have talked to EW before about their delicate negotiations with the network censors. This scene also required a conversation. “There was what we all came to know as the ‘genital manipulation shot,’” Robert says, with a laugh. “It’s very funny to talk with Standards & Practices, who are all very nice people, and negotiate how much we could see of a thrusting hand and so on. Jill Flint and Archie Panjabi did such a wonderful job in the scene. We’ve always thought sexiness was better played on the face, but it was difficult to get around [what was happening below frame]. All we could do was plead the fact that you couldn’t see the scene if you framed it any differently. I think we compromised slightly — we would have gone out maybe another few inches — but I think we reached a nice compromise.” Says Michelle, ”We made sure that one didn’t see anything that was objectionable. We couldn’t work around what an audience member might imagine.”

Alicia managed to shut Lana down, for now. But as you can tell from the promo for next week’s season finale, Kalinda’s past is about to catch up with her again — and this time, she’s wielding more than a bat.
