Johnny Depp: I Want to Play Carol Channing

$

Johnny Depp, seen here in Las Vegas on Wednesday, says he want to portray Carol Channing (Frederick M. Brown/Getty …

Johnny Depp has played his share of real-life people. He is starring as former Boston gangster Whitey Bulger in the upcoming crime drama "Black Mass" (due out next year). And in the past he's been the cinematic alter ego of low-budget '50s filmmaker Ed Wood, FBI agent Joseph D. Pistone (in "Donnie Brasco"), and gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson -- whom Depp has played twice now.

But the chameleonic 49-year-old actor has set the bar a lot higher for his dream biopic. "Carol Channing. I mean that. She's fantastic," Depp said during Yahoo! Movies's live "Lone Ranger" Q&A on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Asked by a fan who he would like to play next in a film, Depp indicated he was serious about his plan to play comedic actress Channing, who is now 92 years old. Later in the discussion, Depp also quipped that he dressed up as Channing when he was a kid -- and not as any of "The Lone Ranger" characters.

He added that he would also love to do the life story of 86-year-old comedian Don Rickles, joking, "I don't know if he's well known in China."

Depp, who plays Tonto in this summer's "The Lone Ranger," was on stage with the masked man himself, Armie Hammer. The film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski joined the ride.

When Depp got more serious, he admitted he slept in his thick white and black Tonto makeup during "The Lone Ranger" shoot. "You really can't go into a restaurant at that point," he joked, adding that he sat in the makeup chair for up to two hours every time the gunk was applied. "It smells exactly how it looks," Hammer chimed in, indicating it was stinky.

All four men revealed "The Lone Ranger" shoot was tough. Verbinski said it was his toughest. In fact, he and Hammer said they can't even watch the finished film without thinking about the toil. "Every image that shows up is a sense memory of absolute misery and pain and torture and nothing was going right and the weather was horrendous," Verbinski recalled. "You watch it and you remember being there," Hammer said, adding his reaction to seeing 20 minutes of footage shown at CinemaCon on Wednesday went something like this: "Man, it was 120 degrees that day, the cameras weren't working because it was so hot." Hammer added that some of the crew were forced to carry 1,500-pound camera dollies over the crest of a mountain – "experiences you wouldn't get on any other movie."

Depp concurred, the road to "Ranger" was rough, saying he was "in the trenches … the muck" and that it was "miserable at times."

The height of his misery, he indicated, was when he almost got trampled by a horse. "[When] you're on a horse moving at high speed and you realize you're under it … suddenly staying alive on the horse was my biggest challenge." He later describe seeing "the striations of muscle in his enormous body," then trailed off into jokes with the panel about nearly consummating his relationship with the animal.

Channing and horse jokes. Go figure.

"The Lone Ranger" gallops into theaters July 3.

"Teen Wolf" actor Dylan O'Brien will play Thomas in 20th Century Fox's The Maze Runner, reports Deadline. He will be joining Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen and Thomas Brodie-Sangster in the adaptation that starts filming in May in Baton Rouge. Based on the book by James Dashner, the first book in the sci-fi trilogy is described as follows:

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he's not alone. When the lift's doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they've closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

Wes Ball will direct the film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2014.

Nicki Minaj Puts On Phony English Accent & Tells Mariah Carey ‘Simmer Down Sir!’

$

Just when you thought Nicki Minaj was ready to play nice with Mariah Carey, the Super Bass singer sniped at her fellow judge on Wednesday’s show, putting on a phony English accent and sarcastically telling Mariah to “Simmer down sir.”

The insult came after finalist Kree Harrison‘s rendition of The Black Crowes’ She Talks to Angels, which Mariah thought was off-the-mark.

“No, I do and I’ll explain,” Nicki said — at which point Mariah tried to interject again — and she told her, “Simmer down, sir.”I disagree … that was the best performance of the night,” Nicki said, to which Mariah chimed in, “I wasn’t saying she was awkward … you don’t really disagree with me.”

And some fans on Twitter had a similar reaction.

"Why does Nicki Minaj try to start [with] Mariah like she 60x better than you will ever be," one user wrote.

"[Nicki Minaj] need[s] to show some respect to Mariah Carey. Like at least respect each other's opinion. I love you Mariah," one viewer wrote.

Another added: "Lol at [Nicki Minaj] trying to "disagree" [with] Mariah when Mariah was talking about something else."

And though Minaj's many fans tweeted they thought the "sir" comment was funny, the rapper still seemed to offer an olive branch to Carey later in the night. Minaj, possibly in attempt to smooth things over, complimented the music icon's vocal skills at one point.

After Candice Glover's performance of "When You Believe," Minaj talked about the impressive collaboration of the original version of the song, which was performed by Carey and Whitney Houston.

Fans of Carey took the opportunity to gloat about the compliment.

"Today's episode of American Idol just reminded me why Mariah Carey is a queen..like Nicki Minaj just had to show some respect," one user wrote on Twitter.

But others praised the rapper for her kind words.

"Thanks for being "sweet" to Mariah tonight [Nicki Minaj]!" one fan tweeted.

"I agree with Nicki Minaj. For once," another wrote. "She even complimented Mariah. What."

Nick Lachey Hints That Kim Kardashian Used Him for Fame

Nick Lachey may now be happily married to Vanessa Minnillo Lachey and a proud papa to baby boy Camden, but you may remember that he briefly dated Kim Kardashian back in 2006 after his high-profile divorce from Jessica Simpson.

The 39-year-old singer opened up about their blink-and-you-missed-it relationship in the May issue of “Details” magazine, suggesting that the reality star used him to get famous back when she was a celebrity stylist and party pal of Paris Hilton.

"Let's just say this: We went to a movie. No one followed us there. Somehow, mysteriously, when we left, there were 30 photographers waiting outside," he dished.

He added, "There are certain ways to play this game, and some people play it well."

Though this is the first time that Nick has spoken about their brief romance, Kim actually mentioned it in her 2010 book, "Kardashian Konfidential." She wrote, "It started when I went out on a date with Nick Lachey. Of course the paparazzi took pictures, because people were curious about who he was with."

'Evolution Of Music' By Pentatonix Gives A Cappella Tour Of Best Songs Across Ten Centuries

On Sunday, comedy queen Rebel Wilson kicked off the MTV Movie awards with her co-stars from "Pitch Perfect" for an epic pop-song mashup. Now the a cappella group Pentatonix is giving Wilson and crew a run for their money with their YouTube video titled, "Evolution Of Music."

In the video above, five singers take us on a gleeful ride through ten centuries of musical history. From Gregorian chants of the 11th century to the pop hits of the aughts, Pentatonix blows our minds with their seamless instrument-free arrangements.

Could the group team up with "The Evolution Of Dance" comedian Judson Laipply and perform the best viral dance/musical mashup ever? We hope this is someday a possibility.

New box art for 'Beyond: Two Souls'

Sony unveiled the official box art for the PS3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls today. The cover really spells out Quantic Dream's goal to deliver a film-like experience to gamers.

Right above the game's title are the names Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. The two Hollywood actors play the main characters of the game. Ellen Page is a girl with supernatural powers, while Dafoe plays a scientist who helps her understand these abilities.

The two actors are a pivotal part of Beyond, to be sure. It's unusual to see voice actors' names on a game cover, though. I can't remember the last time I've seen that. If Steven Spielberg can put his name on Boom Blox, though, then certainly Page and Dafoe deserve to get top billing too.

Beyond: Two Souls will launch on October 8th. It's a very competitive part of the year for game releases, full of all sorts of sequels and shooters. We'll see if these actors, coupled with Quantic Dream's reputation for innovative games, will be able to make Beyond stand out from the pack.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Are Postponing Their Wedding: Source

Ah, young love ...

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth aren't in any rush to walk down the aisle. In fact, the couple have decided to postpone their wedding, a source tells PEOPLE.

"They want to figure out their life together before they get married," says the source, who adds they originally wanted to tie the knot this summer.

But the pair, who got engaged last June and never announced an official date, aren't done for good.

"They're still engaged and living together," adds the source. "They just realized that there is no rush with the wedding and that it's better that they wait a bit."

Adds a second source: "They were never in a rush to get married."

Cyrus, 20, and Hemsworth, 23, recently spent time apart when he took a trip to Australia and Manila last month for vacation and work commitments. Cyrus was photographed with (and without) her engagement ring, but once her beau returned, "She [was] in the best mood," the source told PEOPLE.

And although Cyrus and Hemsworth may be holding off saying "I do," Cyrus is still close with the Hemsworth clan.

"She plays with our kids. She loves our kids," Samantha Hemsworth, wife of Liam's brother Luke, recently told PEOPLE. Added Luke: "She is ['Aunt Miley'] already."

Michael B. Jordan Post/Excuse to use this picture I found on myspace... 'Fruitvale' Gets A New Name.

Ryan Coogler's multiple Sundance Film Festival award winner, Fruitvale, will now be titled Fruitvale Station.

The Weinstein Company (TWC) acquired distribution rights to the film which is based on the 2009 murder of 22-year old Oscar Grant (played by Jordan), and which co-stars Tristan Wilds and Melonie Diaz, with Forest Whitaker producing.

Expected to be one of TWC's Oscar contenders this fall (it'll be released on July 26), the name change has likely been done to make the title much more specific, tying it to the exact station location where the murder took place. Instant recognition, I suppose.

Fruitvale is one of at least 3 black films TWC will be releasing later this year, the other 2 being The Butler and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

interestingly (to me anyway), he switched to the same agency as a few of the writer/directors he worked with in the past year or so. Ryan Cooler (Fruitvale Station), Tom Gormican (Are We Officially Dating?) and Josh Trank (Chronicle). I wonder if he switched for the scripts or the opportunity to write/direct.

Miley Cyrus And French Montana Get 'High,' Make Sweet Music Together

French-Montana-and-Miley-Cyrus-at-Ne-Yos-Midnight-Brunch

Here are three Miley Cyrus facts for you: Miley Cyrus has worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop (including Wiz Khalifa, Tyler the Creator and Pharell Williams). Miley Cyrus is highly respected by Snoop Lion. Miley Cyrus is buddies with French Montana and they get high together. At least, that’s what the Bad Boy rapper told MTV Hive this week.

When asked about how they came to be hanging out at South by Southwest this year, French said: “That’s my dog. That’s my peoples. We became friends at the Clive Davis Grammy party. I was sitting there with Puff. She was sitting there with Wiz [Khalifa]. She just kept looking at me laughing, I kept on looking at her laughing. I said, “What you laughing at?” She said, “I know you high like me.” After that, we became mad cool. I went over to the studio, just kicking it.”

Besides dishing on the (drug-induced) beginnings of their friendship, Montana, whose debut album, Excuse My French, is out in about a month (May 21), confirmed that he and the “Hannah Montana” actress are collaborating. “Yeah. We working on something now,” he said. “That’s just cool peoples.”

Miley is certainly “cool peoples” these days, and that’s a very modest compliment compared to the one Snoop Lion gave her. The former Disney star teamed up with the rapper-turned-reggae artist for his single, “Ashtrays and Heartbreaks” from his upcoming album, Reincarnated. He said that Miley is “one of the greatest musicians and personalities of all time”.

The Enthusiasms of Alison Brie

$

We love her. Because of Mad Men, because of Community, because... Well, it should be completely obvious. All we wanted to know was, what does Alison Brie love?

I love…

…the number thirty-eight. It's so round. It's a voluptuous number. Eighty-eight has gone too far.

Seeing my reflection in somebody else's sunglasses. It's a nice way to check in with yourself.

How loud my mother laughs at her own jokes.

Giraffes, because their bodies defy nature and embrace it at the same time.

Getting a script in the mail from Mad Men.

How there doesn't seem to be any alcoholics in Scotland, even though everybody drinks all day every day.

My afternoons, because they're always different.

Going to bed early. If I can get eight hours…

Going to bed watching The American President. I've seen it so many times I can close my eyes and still know what's happening.

The moment when Annette Bening has her date with the president lined up. She's in her office. A guy is talking to her. She's just kind of lost in space, tapping her pencil near a cup of pens. The guy says, "What's wrong? Got a big date tonight?" She does a double take and knocks over the pens. It's my favorite comedic moment. It seems so unexpected. It doesn't seem calculated. You know she thought out that move. It was probably written in: Looks up, surprised. Knocks over pens. But it comes off so sincere.

Trying to recall the details of my dreams when I first wake up.

My ability to say no to people now that I've turned thirty.

Movie theaters when they're either supercrowded or totally empty. Your opinion is not influenced by anyone when you're alone at a matinee. It's just you and the movie. And crowds at a premiere or at Sundance are a special treat. At Sundance, nobody's like, "We didn't have anything to do tonight, so we came here."

The romance in parks. Being on a blanket with the right person. You don't want to be on a blanket with just anyone.

My agents, because they don't ever want me to do nudity.

Butternut squash. Spaghetti squash. Kabocha squash.

My real last name. But the mispronunciation of it is like nails on a chalkboard. It starts S-c-h, so everybody pronounces it as if it were Shermerhorn. But it should be pronounced like it's Skermerhorn.

Yoga. It's like my church.

My sister's temper. It keeps me in check.

Teahouses. Green tea as opposed to jasmine green, which is a little more flowery. I like to taste that green.

Aretha Franklin—but in the evening.

Whistling, but I'm terrible at it and embarrassed to do it in front of people.

"Strawberry Fields Forever." It's the first song that I thought was so beautiful it brought me to tears.

Frank Gore and the Niners. I didn't miss a game last season.

Getting photos of my little nephew. They make me laugh in a way I never did before.

Cupcakes. The smaller the better. You can taste different flavors and not feel guilty.

Living in the hills above Hollywood. The quiet gives you time to think.

Popcorn. On the stove top, with a little olive oil.

The Princess Bride."Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Holly Hunter. She's got gumption.

Coming home after I travel.

Sex, because some of the most humorous things happen when you're naked with another person.

The cast on Community and the way everyone moves the comedy.

There's nothing to love about auditions.

Petting my cats' fur. So soft, and how my cats love being pet.

Money. Money means better meals at better places.

Securing reservations.

Darioush Winery in Napa. Duel is the wine the owner made with his son, so it's the two of them bringing their styles.

Running, because it never seems like a strenuous exercise and always clears my head.

Organization.

Omakase. That means the sushi chef just makes you whatever. I love not having to make decisions.

Mrs. Carlson, my second-grade teacher at Mount Washington Elementary. She had the most wonderful stories. She would travel around the world and come back and show us pictures. I remember this story about her being in Africa. This baby ostrich kicked her in the leg and almost broke it, and she showed us the giant bruise. She had us make corn tortillas from scratch. What a great second-grade class. I wonder if she's still teaching.

Flowers. If you're a guy, you should get girls flowers all the time. They never get old and you can never get them enough. I'm never disappointed when I get flowers. I always thought guys who don't buy women flowers are such fools. All it takes is one. A little goes a long way with flowers.

Shorts. My clothing of choice. They're easy. But don't give me shorts without pockets.

Working. It makes life much simpler.

Virgin America.

Deep-tissue massages. I like to be in pain when I'm getting massaged. That way I know I'm getting my money's worth.

Looking at my dad when we're singing together around the holidays.

About 80 percent of my day.

Who doesn't love authenticity?

Kim Kardashian - OFFICIALLY DIVORCED

$

Kim Kardashian is officially a single woman ... because the judge dissolved her marriage to KrisHumphries in today's court hearing ... and we've learned Kris walked away with NOTHING.

Here's what sources connected with the case tell TMZ:

-- Kris gets NO money from Kim. As we've reported ... he had previously demanded $7 mil.

-- Kris dropped his demand for an annulment based on fraud.

-- Each party will pay their own attorney's fees.

This is not just a settlement.  It's a WIN for Kim and her lawyer, disso-queen Laura Wasser.

The judge sent 2 different messages -- on the one hand saying the status of the marriage was dissolved, but then said it's over when they sign the official papers.  But it seems like she's officially divorced, especially since the judge said to Kim, "Congratulations on your dissolution."

One final thing.  The judge was about to slap Kris with a financial penalty for being a no-show at last week's hearing, but Kim asked the court to drop it, and Kris skated.

Once Upon a Time 2x19 "Lacey" Sneak Peek!

$

This Sunday on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, while Belle is off being racy “Lacey,” Emma and Neal put their heads to together to solve a new mystery — and we have a sneak peek.

When last we tuned into the sophomore drama, August — with his last breaths, after being tasered by the mysterious Tamara — warned Emma & Co. about Storybrooke being in danger, but didn’t ID his assailant before croaking.

Here, Emma and Neal mull the adult Pinocchio’s cryptic words (after talking about his subsequent “reboot” as a “real boy”/new pal for Henry). Also at hand is the matter of possibly going back “home” once the magic beans are ready for harvest, even though Neal admits to not having had “a fairytale childhood” (har!).

Would Emma return to the magical, now-rundown land where from which she came, if it meant staying with her newly discovered parents, Snow White and Prince Charming? Series cocreator Eddy Kitsis explained her hesitation during TVLine’s May sweeps preview, saying, “The thing is that a year ago she wasn’t a believer, and it took Henry … going into a sleep curse and her fighting a dragon to realize [her origin story] was true. Then she went back to that land and found it to be burnt and found of ogres. So like anybody, Emma struggles with this…. The thought of going back and having that be her life is very frightening, because change is frightening.”

But on the flip side, TVLine noted to Kitsis, Emma’s life in our realm has kinda sucked — and he could only concur. “Isn’t it time she goes back and finds her happy ending?” the scribe offered. “And that literally is explored in the next four [final episodes].”
