Tom Cruise quietly spent his 50th birthday with his teenage kids, Connor and Bella, and members of his extended family at his Beverly Hills, Calif., mansion, PEOPLE has learned.

Both absent on Tuesday: his estranged wife, Katie Holmes, who filed for divorce last week, and his daughter Suri, 6, who has remained with Mom in their new Manhattan apartment since last week's bombshell split announcement.

"The plan was he was going to spend his birthday with Katie and Suri [in New York City]," a source tells PEOPLE. "Then they were going to fly to California where he is going to finish [filming] Oblivion and spend time there."

But after Holmes's divorce filing, which the source says utterly blindsided Cruise, the superstar actor had to abruptly change plans.

With Bella, 19, Connor, 17, and other family members in tow, Cruise left Iceland, where he's been shooting Oblivion, and landed in Burbank early Tuesday.

"They were all together, and one of the reasons he came back to California was that he had to take his family back to LA.," says the source.

The Cruise insider adds that the actor also bypassed New York to avoid the paparazzi frenzy. "It's an impossible situation and he does not want to subject his daughter to any more trauma," the source says.

For now, Cruise must rely on regular phone calls with Suri, says the source, adding that the two talk several times a day.

"Say what you will about Tom, but there is no doubt he loves his daughter," says a second source. "Not seeing her would be very hard on him."

As for the mood on the actor's birthday, it was "somber," says the insider. "Just very very sad."

Meanwhile, a smiling Suri and Holmes stepped out for ice cream on Tuesday in New York's East Village neighborhood.

Katie Holmes Not Seeking Emergency Hearing, Lawyer Says

Katie Holmes's lawyer is denying reports that the actress wants an emergency hearing on custody and child support in the Tom Cruise divorce.

"Other than her action for divorce, the only pending application filed by Ms. Holmes remains her request for an anonymous caption," her lawyer Jonathan Wolfe says. An anonymous caption means that the papers in the case are filed anonymously.

The statement is response in to online reports that Holmes, 33, on Tuesday filed what is called an emergent application that could have resulted in a public hearing in a New York court.

Her so-called life just got a little happier!

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“There’s definitely a chance, no plans yet,” the Homeland star, 33, told PEOPLE last fall when asked if a baby could be on the way shortly. “But yeah, that’d be fun.”

Danes, who won a Golden Globe in January, wed Hannibal star Dancy, 37, in a private ceremony in France in 2009.

While there was no official comment from Homeland‘s production company, Fox 21, a spokesman says that Danes’ pregnancy is not expected to impact the production of season two — which premieres on Showtime Sept. 30 — in any way.

Walt Disney Pictures has released the poster for director Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful, the fantasy adventure opening on March 8, 2013 and starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff.

The film imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot--fame and fortune are his for the taking--that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity--and even a bit of wizardry--Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

"Katie" wins out

Katie Holmes has not only reclaimed her life now that she’s filed for divorce from Tom Cruise – she’s also taking back her name. Ever since the two first got together in 2005, the “Mission Impossible” star has insisted on referring to his wife as “Kate,” even though neither her friends nor her family has ever called her that.

And it clearly was a name Holmes herself did not identify with because she never went by it professionally, despite her husband’s consistent use of it every time he mentioned her publicly. In fact, in her statement announcing the split, Holmes’ lawyer said, “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family.” Cruise’s response? “Kate has filed for divorce.” It first began in April 2006, when Holmes, now 33, was still pregnant with Suri, but not yet married to Cruise. During an interview with All Headline News, he explained, "Katie is a young girl’s name. Her name is Kate now – she’s a child-bearing woman." [OMG creepy!] At the time, it was also reported that Holmes had agreed upon the name change “after discussing it with Tom” and as a result “all friends and family now call her Kate.” But that wasn’t so. A few months later, at her November 2006 wedding to Cruise in Italy, Holmes’ father Martin – a lawyer who reportedly was very instrumental in helping his youngest daughter plan her sudden split from the Scientologist – toasted the newlyweds in a sweet speech at their rehearsal dinner … and referred to Holmes as Katie. “I respect Tom for the commitment he has made to provide happiness and love to Katie,” gushed Martin. Even one of Holmes’ closest confidants, her stylist Jeanne Yang, called her good pal “Katie” in a joint interview the two ladies did with Elle magazine to promote their Holmes & Yang clothing line in 2010. The only person to publicly call the former “Dawson’s Creek” star the name that Cruise, 50, preferred was his longtime friend Brooke Shields, who was invited to the couple’s lavish wedding in a move that seemed like an attempt to extend an olive branch. Remember when Cruise called her out for “drug” use after she admitted she used anti-depressants to battle postpartum depression following the birth of her first daughter? (He said she should have simply taken vitamins). “Kate called me herself to invite us to the wedding,” Shields said at the time. “It would have felt like a slap to say no." [Oh no, Brooke. He took away your meds and got to you too! As much as Cruise pushed “Kate,” it just didn’t stick, not just in her personal life, but her professional one as well. On every movie poster for the films she has made since getting together with Cruise, she has been billed as “Katie Holmes.” The same goes for all the covers of the fashion magazines she has graced: They, too, spell out “Katie Holmes.” By filing for divorce, Katie is also shedding another unwanted name: Mrs. Tom Cruise.

Fourth Of July 2012: 5 Celebs Who Celebrated Their 'Freedom' After Divorce

After divorce, celebrities tend to make sweeping statements about their newfound single status. Some gab to the press about how thrilled they are to reclaim their "freedom" after a split, while others make a point to proclaim how "liberated" they feel now that they're rid of their ex.

Just in time for the Fourth of July, we've compiled a list of five personal declarations of independence. Click through to see which celeb said what, then tell us: Did you feel like you had won back your independence after divorce?

Camille Grammer had two reasons to celebrate Independence Day last year. Just one year after she decided to end her 13-year marriage to husband Kelsey Grammer, the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star kicked back on a Hawaiian beach with her two kids and told Radar Online, "It's been one year today I filed for divorce, I feel liberated!"

In an October 2008 interview with InStyle magazine, Meg Ryan revealed what it was like to have her 2000 divorce from Dennis Quaid play out in the public eye -- and how she felt about being labeled a "scarlet woman" as a result of her alleged affair with Russell Crowe.

"It was also incredibly liberating," Ryan said of the much-publicized split. "Now I was utterly free. I didn't have to care about what people thought. I have gotten to do what I guess I secretly wanted to do. Be totally under the radar and live my life."

Even silent-screen actresses employed the "freedom" line when divorcing their husbands.

After obtaining a quickie divorce from estranged husband Joseph M. Scheneck in Juarez, Mexico in 1934, actress Norma Tamadge said she was "going to New York" to "spend a few days thinking about my freedom."

In May 2007, Diane Kruger reflected on the end of her five-year marriage to French actor Guillaume Canet the year before.

"I feel liberated of guilt and of being responsible for someone else's feelings," the actress reportedly told the Evening Standard. "It was a lot to handle at once. Not being around was difficult for him and for my friends. So it was a mutual split, and a

After 41 years of marriage, screen legend Carol Channing filed to divorce her husband, Charles Lowe, in May 1988. The "Hello Dolly" actress reportedly claimed that she and Lowe had only had sex twice during their marriage and that he regularly humiliated her in public and funneled off her money.

"It doesn't matter to me that I didn't have relations," Channing said of the failed relationship. "That's incidental. The important thing is my freedom."

EXCLUSIVE: Imprisoned Former Cash Money Rapper Turk Gets October Release Date

New Orleans rapper Turk, once a member of Cash Money Records’ biggest group the Hot Boys, will finally be released from prison.

Turk, who served almost nine years after being convicted for weapons violations, will finally be released from the Forrest City, Arkansas federal prison, on October 12, 2012.

Turk, born Tab Vigil Jr., was part of The Hot Boys from 1996-2001.

As a member of the group, Turk was featured on #1 albums like Get It How You Live!, Guerrilla Warfare and released a solo album titled Young & Thuggin’.

But Turk’s career took a tragic turn for the worst, in 2004, during an incident in Memphis, Tennessee.

S.W.A.T. team members raided an apartment Turk frequented and a gunfight ensued, leaving two officers injured.
At the time of the trial, it was hotly contested as to whether or not Turk, who was hiding in a closet, was the shooter, or if the officer who was hit was struck by friendly fire.

In October of 2005, Turk was convicted on federal weapons and drug possession charges.

Now that his prison sentence is behind him, the rapper is planning a new book titled “The AutoThugoGraphy of Turk.”

During his nine years incarcerated, Turk also completed a screenplay about his life titled “Reckless,” that he hopes to see make it to the big screen.

XXcLusive: Soulja Boy Talks Getting Emotional During Whitney Houston Tribute at 2012 BET Awards

One of the most memorable images from this past Sunday’s BET Awards didn’t happen on the stage. During the moving tribute to the late, great legend Whitney Houston, the camera panned to the audience—which was moved and filled with emotions—and for a few seconds, focused on Soulja Boy.

The 21-year-old MC had a stream of tears flowing down his face.
It was a touching moment for all those tuning into the Awards ceremony on Sunday night (July 1).

XXLMag.com recently spoke to Soulja about being overcome with emotion by the tribute for the iconic singer.

“Yeah man,” Soulja—via phone from LA—began to recollect yesterday. “When I was standing there and they started to do the tribute, I started to think about Whitney Houston. When her mother came onstage, I thought about how a mother was singing about her daughter that was no longer here. A daughter that had died.

“That’s really tough,” he added. “Then I started thinking about my younger brother that recently passed. I got his name tatted on my arm. [His passing] feels like it happened yesterday. So those things are hard to watch.”

Soulja, who was only two-years-old when Whitney scored her chart topping 1992 single off the Bodyguard soundtrack, “I Will Always Love You,” says he was a huge fan of Houston.

“Whitney…this is a woman who you see in photographs with Michael Jackson,” he said. “This is a woman who was friends with Michael Jackson, she had so many hits of her own, she worked with other legends, she did a lot. It was touching moment at the BET Awards.

“Like I said, it was hard for me to watch her mama speak on her,” he continued. “The realization that [Whitney’s] not here. To have her mother come out there and sing like that, it was very appropriate. You have to give legends those huge, touching tributes.”

Eve Talks New Album Lip Lock, Hopes to Release LP in Fall

Now, after years away from the musical limelight, instead focusing on acting, the Philadelphia native is mounting her comeback.

“I wanted to really take what people loved of me and fell in love with in the beginning, with the Ruff Ryders and all of them, and combine it with where I am now,” she told Time about her upcoming album Lip Lock, which she says is finished and hopes to release in the Fall. “As far as my ear with music now, because I traveled so much, I think musically my ear has grown. And then lyrically obviously I think I’ve grown. Hopefully people will feel that. Hopefully my core audience won’t feel like I’ve left them behind. That was a big deal for me, to make them feel like they’re involved in my growth.”

E-v-e said that she has been dealing with push backs for the album’s release. “I need another word for frustration,” she said of the process. “I’ve completely gone past frustration 100 times. It’s like with anything that you create—you just want to put out. Because it’s been so long for me, music has changed so much. It’s beyond frustration. I just really can’t wait till this record is out.”

The reason the music hasn’t come out yet isn’t because she wasn’t ready, or it wasn’t finished, though. “It was delays on the label side—I’ve switched management, I’ve switched labels, I’ve switched lawyers,” she continued. “And this was over years. And now I feel like the dust has finally settled and the team that I have now is the right team. Sometimes that’s all it takes, for the stars to be aligned and the dust to settle. And I think we’re there now.”

Eve will be performing as part of the Ruff Ryders reunion at Rock The Bells this year. “It’s gonna feel great to be on that stage,” Jadakiss said of the opportunity in June. “Of course I do a bunch of shows with Styles and Sheek, but to actually have Eve up there is gonna be great. We haven’t been on stage since the Ruff Ryder/Cash Money tour, so I think it’s gonna be crazy.”

Are VIDEO VIXEN Yoncee & Joe Buddens' Ex Tahiry The NEWEST ADDITIONS To Season 3 Of "Love & Hip Hop"?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Now that Emily B. & Chrissy have officially left the original "Love & Hip Hop," there's a few openings for the video vixen/stripper/rapper girlfriend types. Now, we're told video vixens Yoncee (left) & Tahiry (right) will be added as castmembers to the third season of the show. Deets inside....

Rumor has it that video vixen Yoncee (shown above) will be joining her BFF Tahiry (another possible replacement) on season 3 of "Love & Hip Hop." Though Yoncee's manager, Keely Michelle, issued an abrupt "No Comment" to TheYBF.com about whether she'll be popping up on the show, Yoncee seems to be on her own small-scale self-promotion campaign soliciting interviews from websites.

In case your wondering where you've seen Ms. Yoncee, she starred in Ne-Yo's new steamy video "Lazy Love," Nas' "The Don" and the new 2 Chainz featuring Drake "No Lie" video. She's also featured in the current Summer issue of King Magazine. Not sure where the "love" portion comes in, but if we learned anything from the additions of Kimbella & Erica Mena, we put money on it Yoncee has slept with somebody's man...or is rumored to have done so.

Video Vixen/Booty Model Tahiry became Twitter (in)famous after beefing publicly with her on-again off-again boyfriend, rapper Joe Buddens. He's aired her out on many ocassions. And she's done the same to him--blasting him for allegedly begging her to marry him after he got jealous of her being with other rappers and ball players.

Alabama: As if its name isn't enough, the band Alabama has banked 33 Country Songs No. 1s, the most among groups, including its first since 1993 last year, courtesy of its guest turn on Paisley's "Old Alabama.

Alaska: Jewel was born in Utah, but her family soon moved to Homer (and a home without indoor plumbing). When asked by Larry King in 2010 her opinion of Sarah Palin, Jewel responded, "I can't say we agree on everything (politically). But, Alaska women are can-do women. I love the state I'm from.

Arizona:
Peter Green founded Fleetwood Mac in London, but the 1974 addition of Americans Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, the latter from Phoenix, ushered in the band's commercial era that led to its enshrinement in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Arkansas:

With all due respect to occasional saxman Bill Clinton, Johnny Cash wins this musical election. The Man in Black, born in aptly named Kingsland, won new audiences with new music in even his final years (i.e., his haunting cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt") and topped the Billboard 200 as recently as 2006, three years after his passing.

California:

California is home to several superstars, from Paula Abdul to Frank Zappa. While Santa Barbara-born Katy Perry self-congratulated "California Gurls" in 2010, American institution the Beach Boys wished they all could be California girls 45 years earlier.

Colorado: John Denver was born (as Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr.) in Roswell, New Mexico. Still, his name and smashes as "Rocky Mountain High" have made him as much a part of Colorado as Coors beer.

Connecticut:

John Mayer takes a slight edge over New Haven native Michael Bolton, if only since "No Such Thing" so clearly evokes images of Mayer's alma mater, Fairfield High School.

Delaware: George Thorogood. The Wilmington-born guitar hero's "Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock" has spent the most weeks (57) of all entries on Billboard's Blues Albums chart.

Florida:
We could pick Flo Rida, or Backstreet Boys or 'N Sync, but with 29 charted titles on the Hot 100 and 30, including 15 No. 1s, on Latin Songs, Gloria Estefan (born in Havana, Cuba) has gotten fans on their feet and in conga lines, moving to her Miami sounds, for more than a quarter century.

Georgia:

Home to famed alternative acts including R.E.M., the B-52s and Indigo Girls. Still, an easy choice to bestow the honor on the late Ray Charles. "Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind," the R&B titan sang on his 1960 Hot 100 No. 1. Since 1979, "Georgia on My Mind" has served as the state's official song.

Hawaii:

The honor for the 50th state both chronologically and in this feature goes to Bruno Mars, born in the Waikiki neighborhood of Honolulu. With "Just the Way You Are" having wrapped 20 weeks atop Adult Contemporary, the song stands as the longest-reigning debut format hit in the chart's 50-year history.

Idaho: Paul Revere and the Raiders, formed in Boise, notched 21 Hot 100 hits between 1961 and 1973, including the 1971 No. 1 "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)," an ode to Native Americans forced to relocate in the 1830s

Illinois: Originally named Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago has sent 46 songs onto the Hot 100, 20 of which reached the top 10. Even after the defection of lead singer Peter Cetera, the band topped the tally, with "Look Away," sung by Bill Champlin (who departed Chicago in 2009), ranking as Billboard's top single of 1989.

Indiana:

John Mellencamp has incomparably made his home state a central theme in his music. The "Small Town" singer was even born in just that: Seymour, whose population is, as of the last census, 17,503. It's hard to beat a King, however, and Michael Jackson was born in Gary. (Coincidentally, Seymour is located in Jackson County).

Iowa: The Everly Brothers' harmonies influenced countless acts, including the Beatles and Beach Boys. Don was born in Kentucky and Phil, Illinois, but their family soon embraced the Shenandoah, Iowa, music scene, with their father Ike often bringing them on to sing on his radio shows on KMA and KFNF.

Kansas: Sharon-born Martina McBride has placed 55 songs on Country Songs dating to her first on the chart 20 years ago. Still, Kansas is right there in the name of the band, formed in Topeka, that enjoyed such hits as "Carry on Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind."

Kentucky:

Coal miner's daughter and country icon Loretta Lynn was born in Butcher Holler. Runners-up in the state's musical derby: the Judds, as Naomi and Wynonna each hail from Ashland.

Louisiana:

As New Orleans = jazz, who else but Louis Armstrong? Satchmo not only crossed over to mainstream audiences as early as the 1920s, but stands as a pioneer in breaking racial barriers, as well, through the power of his beloved music.

Maine: Stephen Hague. A producer, not a known performer, Hague (born in Portland) has, perhaps surprisingly, produced hits most notably recorded by British bands, including Pet Shop Boys ("West End Girls"), New Order ("True Faith") and Erasure ("A Little Respect").

Maryland:

From Severn, Toni Braxton has enjoyed four No. 1s on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and 11 top 10s, including two No. 1s, on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs between 1992 and 2010. Just last week, she scored her first No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs since 1997.

Massachusetts:

Aerosmith. The "Bad Boys from Boston" bests such worthy fellow Bay Staters as James Taylor, New Kids on the Block, the Cars, Boston, Dropkick Murphys and Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Michigan:

Heartland rock (i.e., the state's Bob Seger) perhaps best defines the Midwest, but Madonna was born in Bay City, graduated from Rochester Adams High School and attended the University of Michigan before dropping out to move to New York City and create the material that would make her musical royalty.

Minnesota:

As with Jackson and Mellencamp in Indiana, you couldn't go wrong with either a pop/R&B cornerstone - Prince - or rock icon - Bob Dylan - representing Minnesota. We'll give the nod to Prince, as "Purple Rain" vividly transported '80s music fans to Minneapolis, where the movie was filmed almost exclusively.

Mississippi:

As Elvis Presley served as perhaps the most important figure in the popularization of early rock, his Billboard chart legacy is equally astounding. He's scored the most hits among soloists in the Hot 100's 54-year history and the most albums in the 56-year archives of the Billboard 200 albums chart. Simply, he's still the King of Rock & Roll.

Missouri:

Eminem was born (Marshall Bruce Mathers III) in Saint Joseph, not moving to Michigan until age 12. Eminem is the best-selling rap album artist of all-time, with U.S. sales of 41.5 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Among males, he trails only the next two artists on our tour of American music.

Montana: For such a big state, relatively few mainstream recording acts hail from Montana. Helena's Nicolette Larson reached the Hot 100's top 10 on her first try with 1979's No. 8-peaking "Lotta Love."

Nebraska: Another band that epitomizes the heartland rock sound, the Eagles, was co-founded by Randy Meisner, who also helped form Poco. Meisner sings lead on the Eagles' No. 4 1976 smash "Take It to the Limit."

Nevada: While Las Vegas has long been the performing home of Wayne Newton and, more recently, Celine Dion and Garth Brooks, the Killers formed there in 2001. The alternative/dance band, with a stylistic flare in line with that of Sin City, has earned three Billboard 200 top 10s.

New Hampshire: Ray Lamontagne. The Nashua folk/rocker has reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 2008's "Gossip in the Grain" and 2010's "God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise."

New Jersey:

If from almost any other state, Bon Jovi would surely (shore-ly?) make this list in bold print. Bruce Springsteen, however, seems like the most apt choice if only for career longevity as a tie-breaker. A bittersweet honorary mention, as well, to Whitney Houston.

New Mexico: "You gotta hear this one song. It'll change your life," Zach Braff predicted about the Shins' "New Slang" in the 2004 film "Garden State." The Albuquerque band roared to a No. 1 peak on Rock Albums and a No. 2 rank on the Billboard 200 with 2007's "Wincing the Night Away.

New York:

Some states were almost impossible to symbolize via only one act. Such New York-born superstars include Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga and, of course, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. Before "Empire State of Mind," however, the Bronx's Billy Joel was often in a New York state of mind, from 52nd Street to his Uptown girl.

North Carolina:

Bucking the trend of country/rock artists best representing Southern states, Jermaine Dupri has produced 11 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s for such R&B acts as Nelly, Usher and Monica. All 11 leaders have spent multiple weeks at No. 1, led by Mariah Carey's 14-week topper "We Belong Together" in 2005.

North Dakota: Lawrence Welk, Bobby Vee ("Take Good Care of My Baby," 1961) and Wiz Khalifa are the only artists born in the state to top the Hot 100. Based on longevity - and, despite "Black and Yellow" having served as the postseason theme to two championship teams last year - acting/singing favorite Welk takes the title.

Ohio:While the Pretenders formed in England in 1978, frontwoman Chrissie Hynde hails from Akron. In 2005, the band joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in Cleveland). Fictitious runners-up: the "Glee" cast. Lima's McKinley High School singers own the record for most Hot 100 hits (203) in the chart's history.

Oklahoma:

Garth Brooks. With U.S. sales of 68.6 million, the Tulsa native and Oklahoma State University grad (advertising major, FYI) is the best-selling album artist in SoundScan's 21-year history.

Oregon: 2011 Best New artist Grammy Award winner Esperanza Spalding was born in Portland. The acclaimed jazz instrumentalist/singer famously won the honor over presumed favorite (and Canada native) Justin Bieber. Also from the Portlandia region: the Decemberists, Everclear and Courtney Love.

Pennsylvania:

Wyomissing's Taylor Swift proves that you don't need to hail from the South to make great country music. She is also the only woman to pull five Country Songs top 10s from each of her first two albums. Runners-up: with their blue-eyed Philly soul, Daryl Hall & John Oates.

Rhode Island: Jeffrey Osborne. The Providence-born R&B singer fronted L.T.D. before launching a solo career that yielded such hits as 1984's "Stay With Me Tonight" (a Rhody radio favorite).

South Carolina:

The late, legendary "Living in America" singer himself, James Brown. The Godfather of Soul sent 91 songs onto the Hot 100, the third-best sum among solo acts after Elvis Presley's 108 and Lil Wayne's 102.

South Dakota: While not a hotbed of Hot 100 activity, the state gave us author L. Frank Baum, who wrote the children's novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Adapted for the silver screen, Kansas/Oz-based "The Wizard of Oz" helped popularize such timeless songs as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

Tennessee:

As with Springsteen in New Jersey, it's hard to imagine anyone other than Dolly Parton representing Tennessee, especially since her "Dollywood" theme park welcomes approximately 2.5 million visitors annually. The Nashville queen, born in Sevierville, boasts the most No. 1s (25) of any female artist in the 68-year history of Country Songs.

Texas:

Even if all his exes reportedly live there, George Strait can't hide from the fact that he's sent more songs to No. 1 on Country Songs (44) than any act on any Billboard chart. With top 10s annually on Country Songs since 1981, Strait, born in Poteet, is the only artist to score a top 10 on the same survey for as many as 32 "Strait" years.

Utah:

Stars of songs and stage the Osmonds are synonymous with the Salt Lake region, having collected 13 Hot 100 hits, while Donny has scored 16 as a soloist. He and sister Marie debuted at No. 30 on the Billboard 200 just last year with "Donny & Marie," the pair's highest-peak duets set.

Vermont: Who else but Phish? The jam band formed at the University of Vermont in Burlington in 1983. Ben & Jerry's, headquartered in nearby Waterbury, famously concocted its "Phish Food" ice cream flavor as a tasty tribute.

Virginia: Bruce Hornsby. Not only has the singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist serenaded his home state in such descriptive songs as "The Red Plains," "The Valley Road" and "The Road Not Taken" (in which he sings of falling in love "with an Appalachian girl").

Washington:

As such states as Tennessee and Texas symbolize country music, Seattle is likewise the birthplace of grunge, with no act perhaps better representing the genre than Nirvana, who defeats Pearl Jam in a tight race if only because "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (No. 6, 1992) marked the sound's first crossover to the Hot 100's top 10.

West Virginia: Brad Paisley. Since his arrival, by way of Glen Dale, Paisley has tallied 18 No. 1s - including a streak of 10 in-a-row - on Billboard's Country Songs chart and six No. 1s on Country Albums

Wisconsin: Les Paul, whom the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has deemed an "architect" of the genre, originated the solid-body electric guitar and perfected multi-track recording technology. "I've never let anybody know exactly how I get my sound," said Paul, who passed away in 2009. "That big, fat, round, ballsy sound ... nobody else has it."

Wyoming: Although born in Biloxi, Mississippi, Chris LeDoux became a Wyoming rodeo legend. After Garth Brooks sang of listening to a "worn-out tape of Chris LeDoux" in his debut single "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)," the singer tallied 21 appearances on Country Songs until his death in 2005

Following a month or two of rumors, Square Enix has confirmed that it will re-release Final Fantasy VII for PC. With achievements. And cloud saves (not to be confused with Cloud saves).

And... a character booster, which it seems will allow you to pay real money to boost your characters' stats. ("Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure," says the official website.)

Anyone else think adding achievements to a classic like Final Fantasy VII would be like adding new special effects to Star Wars? Oh... oh god.

It has been a rough year for Demi Moore and Bruce Willis' daughters.

First, their mother was hospitalized after a health scare, and then reportedly went to rehab for anorexia and prescription medication abuse -- and now, youngest daughter Tallulah Willis is poised to be the latest celebrity dealing with a nude photo scandal. (lol que)

RadarOnline reports that topless photos -- allegedly of the 18-year-old -- are being shopped around to various media outlets. According to the website, four photos of the topless teen smoking what appears to be a joint are being offered for sale.

Willis just graduated high school last month, but she's no stranger to a little controversy. In April 2011, then 17-year-old Willis was cited for underage drinking in Hollywood.

Tallulah's older sister Scout also recently had a run-in with the law. The 20-year-old Brown University student and singer was arrested in June for underage drinking. Scout was caught drinking a beer at 6.p.m in the middle of New York's Union Square, and made things worse for herself when she tried to pass off fake identification to the transit cop who questioned her.

Katie's Tipping Point?

Did Tom leave Suri with unknown Scientologists when Katie was out of the country?

Little Sci has been my nickname for Suri Cruise since she was born. It started out as creative licence, pure jokes. And now...

Well...

LittleSci is the reality Katie Holmes is evidently trying to avoid.

Katie took Suri out for ice cream last night in New York as her defection from Tom Cruise and Scientology continues to fuel the gossip industry. PEOPLE, the first to report that Katie had filed for divorce, reports in its current issue that Katie’s escape from her marriage was indeed a covert operation. That her team, led by her father, secretly started switching out her mobile phones about 3 weeks ago, removing her life piece by piece from his control. As I told you on Friday, she also changed staff, including security, and once everything was in place, she cut him off last Wednesday; that’s the day she officially stopped taking his calls. Baller!

Katie’s parents have been expressing concern about her life for a while now, specifically the effect it was having on Suri. She was trying to be optimistic but as Tom took job after job, continuing to avoid prolonged periods spent together, she had more opportunities alone to reflect on her doubts. Before they met, Katie was living in New York. She’d ended her relationship with Chris Klein. She was excited about her career. She was in her 20s, experiencing the city, going out, meeting new people, coffee with friends, and several cigarettes too - not atypical of someone her age in those circles. Remember when Katie Holmes smoked??? (photo is attached) Then Tom Cruise whisked her away - literally - and she gave it all up. I’m told Katie is often wistful about those pre-Cruise days. She doesn’t miss him, hasn’t in a while now, when she’s in New York without him, often for weeks. So New York became a problem, and one of the arguments she couldn’t win. My sources tell me Tom would not consider making New York their primary residence.

There are, of course, other very disturbing problems. A timeline for her departure is starting to emerge. As already established, Katie had been unhappy for some time. Sources tell me though that it was what happened after her China trip that really pushed her in one direction. Katie left Suri with Tom in New York to go endorse that weird figure skating thing. When she returned, she found out that Tom had left Suri in the care of some unfamiliar Church people about whom she’d previously not been informed. My sources are not sure if Suri’s behaviour was affected, only that Katie was livid about Suri being exposed to strangers. There followed a trip to Iceland shortly after. That was when Katie learned that Isabella and Connor were telling Suri about Gold Base, the Scientology retreat in California where they allegedly bootcamp the sh-t out of people. When she returned to New York, she gave her dad the go-ahead to launch the plan.

Part of that plan as noted last week has been to re-engage the PR people she used to work with before Tom took over her life. And part of their plan has been to get a head start on securing public opinion in Katie’s favour. They’ve been leaking - and very astutely they’ve been targeting the Church and its mysterious, seemingly sinister practices, knowing the organisation already attracts so much suspicion. I’m not saying that suspicion isn’t deserved. My point is that Katie is making a choice NOT to do this privately. She’s blown it wide open and there’s a child in the middle of it. Which is why it’s so frightening. Because you would think that a parent’s first inclination would be to shield her kid from the mess, right? In this particular situation though, Katie and the people advising her must believe - strongly - that they’d be at a serious disadvantage if they weren’t operating publicly.

Can you imagine?

That something about the Church scares them SO much, they would rather live this drama out through the tabloids than do it privately and risk the alternative...whatever that alternative is? For Katie and Suri then, splashing this situation all over the scandal sheets is a PROTECTIVE manoeuvre.

So... if they’re running TO the tabloids for cover, how f-cked up is what they’re running AWAY from?
