    - PBS, Gates, and Affleck came under fire last week after a leaked email revealed that Affleck had asked to censor information about a slave-owning ancestor.

    - During Affleck’s segment, it was revealed that his mother, Chris Boldt, was an activist involved in Freedom Summer

    - Some of the promotion for Affleck's episode was based on this "fact" (PBS website included the line: “Ben Affleck’s mother was a Freedom Rider in 1964.").

    - Chris Affleck has come forward and stated that her “heart was with” the Freedom Riders, but that she was never a member of the group.

    - In fact, she was NEVER in the South in 1964 (she was there a year later).

    - She says she supported what they did but she was never a member. It causes her embarrassment because she wasn't as good as they were~.

    - She is proud of her son's apology. She isn't surprised about her past!

“I wasn’t surprised to find that my family had used black people as slaves. It makes sense. It was all on my side of the family because my parents were from Georgia and Mississippi and many rich white people from southern states would use people in this way.”

Affleck revealed the name of his slave-owning great-grandfather on Twitter: Benjamin Cole (reportedly owned 25 slaves, was a wealthy sheriff of Savannah, Georgia)

  • 04/24/15--20:28: M.I.A. vs. Diplo (Pt. 100)

  • Everyone knows M.I.A. and her former boyfriend Diplo, best known for perfecting trailer park chic, have been feuding since she became successful and he failed at attempting to take all the credit. In a recent interview with a banned source, Maya claimed Diplo smashed her hotel room in anger at her success. "When I got signed by Interscope, he literally smashed my hotel room and broke all the furniture because he was so angry I got picked up by a major label and it was the corniest thing in the world that could possibly happen … So the whole two years I was with him, I just let him dictate. I basically had this man dictate to me how everything in America that I experienced was completely, like, irrelevant and it was nothing. So it was kind of a weird time for me. It's only now when I look back at it in 2015, I can see that he was just jealous and he couldn’t wait to be Taylor Swift’s best friend and date Katy Perry."

Normally this could be chalked up to typical Maya embellishment, but Diplo recently confirmed Maya's statements in an interview with another banned source, admitting that he was "jealous and sad" about her success. For some reason, he went on to say he and Maya had recently made up and that she "recently apologized" to him for her comments, which makes no sense since he just basically admitted he did everything she said.

    M.I.A. responded:

This show is becoming a little too soap opera-ish and the procedural B plots are boring. Juliette is a tad more interesting I guess but if I'm honest I wouldn't mind if she got killed off and Nick hooked up with Adalind since they have way more chemistry. Mama Grimm needs to come back and kick Kenneth's ass

There doesn't seem to be a lot being said in big names... I don't know if people aren't watching, or if responses will come later. I was pleasantly surprised to see what looked like broad support at least from verified account users/media blogs.

Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) promised his version will be more faithful to the source material:

“I think I’m really going to make it my own because it is kind of going back and its seeing the younger character. I realize the Nightcrawler that is portrayed in X2 is one that has been through quite a bit more and has really embraced the superhero part of him—a kind of violent part. Whereas I think what they’re trying to show here is the more vulnerable Nightcrawler and the one we all kind of related to in the comics. It’s really the fun, happy, swashbuckling Nightcrawler that we all love, so I really can’t wait to portray that. He’s just very vulnerable and truthful, and grounded in his faith. I think it’s something new though that we’ll see."

"But as I said, all of the traditional things that we want in it—it’s still there. Hint, hint.”

The source is speculating about that "hint" being a reference to his parentage, you know:

How do you think they will fix this continuity mess? Or Singer will ignore it like he always do? If you remember, Azazel died in DOFP ~awkward~.

"The re-energized cover of the Eighties classic makes the song even more sonically dynamic, with Spears evoking Vega’s subdued, almost deadpan, delivery." - Rolling Stone

"Many may be quick to doubt the “Toxic” star’s ability to make the classic hit her own, or simply just tolerable, but Spears is literally in the zone here. Admittedly she isn’t the best vocalist in town, but when she has the right song, with the right production backing her (major h/t to the legendary Moroder), it’s almost as though she can take back the pop throne if she really wanted to. Spears does the original justice and actually makes me curious as to what she might be working on in the future. Imagine that? Looking forward to a Britney Spears album in 2015." - Consequence of Sound

"The track finds Spears putting her breathy spin on Suzanne Vega’s single “Tom’s Diner.” It’s aural vocoder porn and Moroder’s production is the Midas touch that solidifies this remake as a frontrunner for the song of the summer in gold. It's pure, slinky bliss with no "It's Britney, bitch" announcement in earshot. (Thank god. That was getting tiresome.) Now, if you don’t mind, we’re going play this on loop and twirl into the shimmering Friday night." - Nylon Mag

"Much to the delight of music bloggers and electro fans everywhere, a wonky take on Suzanne Vega's hypnotic 1987 hit "Tom's Diner," performed by the Princess of Pop herself, was leaked earlier today. No longer a disaffected anthem of dazed people-watching, Moroder's version of "Tom's Diner" thrusts you right into the action with the heavy use of a vocoder and a steady four-on-the-floor sweep. Amplifying Britney's breathy, pseudo-robo swoon, Moroder has somehow made the classic doo-doo-doo-doo hook even more addictive -- a vision of modern pop that joins together audio technology's past, present and future and proves that the legendary Eurodisco producer hasn't lost his touch. (Not to mention the fact that America's Comeback Queen is also back in full force.)" - Papermag

"The wackiest and most genius might be Britney Spears covering Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner,” which has made it online a little earlier than expected. Listen to Moroder and Britney’s decidedly pop take on the track below before it disappears back into the ether of legality. My hot take is that this cover is good! Maybe even great?" - Stereogum

On this week's episode of Modern Family a little nod to the one of the show's biggest fans:

Charli xcx talks iconic songs, style icons and wanting a Britney collab

On style icons:“I love a lot of characters in movies! I really like Courtney Shayne in Jawbreaker, Cher Horowitz in Clueless. I also love 90’s Mariah Carey and 90’s Britney. Also, Chanel (in the) 90’s.”

On her top three most iconic Britney Spears songs:
“Great question! I love “Email My Heart” (because it’s) such a great concept for a song. And I love her reply when people asked what the song meant, she said something like (Britney impression) “cause like everyone has an email” and I thought: this girl is a genius. I think it’s a great song (especially) back when Britney had this soul voice. (Number 2 has to be) “Piece Of Me” because the production is so next level and the whole Melodyne (a pitch-correction software) concept of her vocals is very clever (and) the lyrics are amazing. (I think) “Work Bitch” was an underrated record, the video is incredible, you know when she’s on the podium with the shark

On collab-ing with Britney Spears:“I know that Iggy (Azalea) is working with Britney and I’m so jealous. Who knows? I would love to write songs with her!”

    - Tumblr Prince™ and probable Spider-Man, Dylan O'Brien, tweeted a response to Kim K's ex-husband Kris Humphries's transphobic tweet.
    - Humphries, of questionable fame, tweeted late last night: "Man, I'm glad I got out when I did."[Original ONTD Post: Kris Humphries shows his transphobic ass]
    - Humphries was of course referring to last night's #BruceJenner interview with Diane Sawyer in which the Kardashian/Jenner patriarch came out as transgender.

Sort of follow-up to this post.

    - In related news, Alpha Prince™, Tyler Posey, has confirmed that Teen Wolf will return with a two-part season premiere on June 29th @ 10 PM and June 30th @ 9 PM.
    - Posey said of the show's upcoming 5th season:

"All hell breaks loose. [The characters] don't know whether to focus on surviving and saving people, or to focus on getting into school at the same time... what's more important, dying or school?"

    Praphrased from @MTV and ChristianToday.

On the lowest point of his life: "[It] was losing my mother, Rose, and grandfather – they died within a year of each other. I was 22 and the two most influential people in my life had gone, so that sent me into a tailspin. I lost the 70s in a way, but then I gave up drinking in 1977 and decided to focus on the work."

On social media: "I have a Facebook page that 5.4m people “like”. What does that mean? I don’t know, although I do appreciate that these platforms are good for getting your message out there."

On his hardest role: Michael Corleone in The Godfather was and still is the most difficult role I’ve played. I didn’t see him as a gangster; I felt his power was his enigmatic quality. Unfortunately the studio couldn’t see that at first and were thinking of firing me. It was during my early career, a major movie with Marlon Brando, and no one other than Francis [Ford Coppola] wanted me for the part.

On his friendship with Robert Deniro: People think there is rivalry between me and Robert De Niro. I know Bobby pretty well. He’s a friend and he and I have gone through similar things. I love what he does with comedy; it’s pure genius.

For those of us who can't wait for Season 3 of Hannibal, Bryan Fuller has helpfully provided 11 spoilers for Season 3, including episode titles and more info about Richard Armitage's Dolarhyde.

    1. The season premiere 'Antipasto' is all about Bedelia Du Maurier and her years-long relationship with Hannibal Lecter.

"It really does feel like 'What are we watching?' Will Graham isn't in it, none of the other familiar characters are in it, it's just Hannibal and Bedelia and their history over three different periods of time."

    2. Worried about Will's dogs? So are we. But fear not – Fuller confirmed that somebody has been taking care of them while Will and everyone he knows are recuperating from the massacre: "We indicate who is taking care of them, without overly answering it... it is addressed in some way."

    3. Richard Armitage's Dolarhyde will be treated more like a third lead character than a supporting player in the season's second chapter.

"He is in the show almost as much as Hugh and Mads are in the second half of the season," Fuller revealed. "So we really spend a lot of time with Dolarhyde, in a way that neither of the movies have had the real estate to."

On his new film Beasts of No Nation:"There's not one white person in it. It's not [Leonardo] DiCaprio saving Africa. It's mainly an African cast. The movie is a very difficult subject. It could easily become one of those films where someone's like, 'That seems too serious, I don't want to watch that again. But I think by nature of the force of Netflix being behind it, it will be in people's faces enough that they'll be like, 'Ok, I'll give it a try.' Hopefully once they start watching it, they'll be consumed by it."

On death of cinema/ his film getting a Netflix release:"[Beasts of No Nation] was designed to be a film experienced in a group, collectively like this, with strangers in the dark and see this story…Netflix's big thing is consumer choice. So as the audiences start to make that choice and continue to make the choice to only watch online, the cinema experience will only be reserved for comic-book movies. That's the biggest democratic challenge for an art form that you have to ask the audience to be aware of the fact that they are just as responsible for the death of cinema as the people who make it."

On directing True Detective and not knowing what the last three episodes were gonna be:“It’s actually frightening because you’re starting shooting and you haven’t had the chance to plan anything yet [for the end of the series]. And so we basically planned in pre-production for True Detective… the first five episodes, really. But 6, 7 and 8 had to be planned while we were shooting; there was no hiatus," he said. So it just meant we had to double up our work: Before a shooting day, we’d go scouting, tech scouting. At lunch, we’d have production meetings. After shooting, we’d go see new locations. [This is on top of] a 12- to 14-hour day. At night, I’d go meet with the editors, try to get the first couple episodes locked up. Saturdays, more scouting. It just meant you did what you would have done normally in 8 weeks on the tops and ends and bottoms of days.”
