X Factor USA: Cheryl Cole, Katy Perry and Mariah Carey to join the show?

The singers have all been tipped to join the show, after it was announced that Nicole Scherzinger, Steve Jones and Paula Abdul wouldn’t be returning.

Katy Perry might have something new to take her mind off her marriage split, after it was rumoured the Firework singer has been tipped to join The X Factor USA panel.

The 27-year-old singer is just one of several stars who has been linked to the job, after it emerged existing judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, as well as host Steve Jones, won’t be returning for the second series.

The only person on the panel who seems to be safe is record producer L.A. Reid, alongside show boss Simon Cowell.

Another name that’s popped up is Cheryl Cole; the Geordie star of course was an original judge on X Factor USA, but Simon axed her after just three weeks, after feeling she wasn’t “comfortable” in the job.

Simon then went on to admit that he’d made a mistake firing Cheryl – so could she be set for a sensational return to the show? After her embarrassingly public axing last year, somehow we doubt it…

Another star said to be in the running for the job is Mariah Carey. The R&B diva had made a huge impression on Simon, who is known to love her work.

A source told the Daily Mirror that signing Mariah up to the X Factor USA judging panel would be a huge bonus for the show, commenting: "Simon wants nothing but the best for the X Factor - and Mariah is the best."

Cowell is now said to be trying to convince Mariah to join the panel, after she was unable to do so last year, having just given birth to twins Monroe and Moroccan.

R&B star Nicki Minaj is yet another of the big stars Cowell is said to have his eye on for the coveted role.

Dermot O’Leary, meanwhile, is  being tipped for the hosting job, taking over from Welshman Steve Jones.

Dermot, who currently fronts X Factor UK, was in the running to land the position last year, and was said to feel “humiliated” and upset about losing out.
