Actress Taryn Manning was ordered to stay away from her 23-year-old assistant Friday, after allegedly instigating a vicious brawl that left the young woman bruised all over her head and body. Manning, 33 — who played Eminem's ex-girlfriend in “8-Mile” — allegedly punched, scratched and kicked Holliann Hartman in the face; scratched her face and neck; choked her; and slammed her head against the floor and wall, according to the criminal complaint released at her arraignment Friday morning..
Petite and haggard-looking, Manning said nothing as she left the courthouse. She wore black skinny-jeans, a white striped sweater and a shawl draped over her head like Jackie-O. The catfight was triggered after the two had spent a grueling day traveling to release Manning’s new music video, claimed her attorney, Joseph Tacopina.
“They had a late-night argument that turned into a bit of a physical altercation."
He described the whole thing as an isolated incident that occurred because the two had been working long hours together as the actress launches her new song. Manning is charged with misdemeanor assault and choking. A Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Alexander Tish released the stressed-out songstress without bail and ordered her to stay away from Hartman until the next court date, scheduled Nov. 13.
"If you know about Taryn, and her track record and her background, she's not a petulant little kid," said Tacopina. "She's a 33-year-old, serious, well-accomplished actress, artist who is here promoting her song on Vh1.”
Tacopina called the assistant Manning’s “longtime friend,” and downplayed the scuffle. He said Hartman called to say she does not wish to pursue the case. He could not say if alcohol was involved. "She's part of the Manning family,” said Tacopina of the assistant. “She stays with the mother and Taryn in California.”
He would not say exactly what the argument was about. "There are some personal issues that they've had," he said. "Disagreements that friends who spend every waking moment together have on occasion."
The incident occurred early Thursday morning at 5 a.m. in the actress’ room at the swanky Dream Downtown hotel on W. 16th St. She was booked Thursday night. Police said Hartman was bruised on her head and body.
