The first episode of American Horror Story: Asylum is set to air next week. However, production on the second (and significantly shaken up) season of the genre anthology is still very much underway. Today, another big name has been added to the already impressive (and rather large) ensemble. Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Ian McShane will be visiting the titular loony bin, having been cast in a role opposite Jessica Lange’s Sister Jude in the FX series.

Co-creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement on Twitter saying that the cocksucker would be “coming to #AmericanHorrorStory Asylum to tussle with Jessica Lange,” but the 140 character limit really hurt his ability to provide additional details. I’m sure they aren’t intentionally being secretive about McShane’s part in the second half of the season, right? The show has a habit of attracting heavyweight talent, and McShane is only the latest award winning or nominated actor to join the series. Other examples include, Sarah Paulson’s return, James Cromwell’s guest stint, and not to mention Lange who, among her many other accolades, recently won the Emmy for her role in the first season of AHS.

Asylum moves the scares from the modern ‘Haunted House’ setting to an institution for the criminally insane in the mid-60s and follows Lange’s nun as she encounters various horror while whiling working in the building. Like I said, the first episode, “Welcome to Briarcliff,” airs in full next Wednesday, but FX has already shared the first 5 minutes for those who can’t wait to catch a glimpse of the new season.

American Horror Story: Asylum premieres on Wednesday, October 17 at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, it stars Lange, Sarah Paulson, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe (all returning for the second series in new roles) as well as newcomers Cromwell, Clea Duvall, Chris Zylka, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, Adam Levine, Mark Consuelos and Lizzie Brochere.
