Legendary vampire Lestat could be in for a return, as author Anne Rice (Interview with a Vampire) took to her Facebook page to ask fans a simple but revealing question: "If you want Lestat to come back, can you tell me why in one sentence?"
Equally, change could be in the cards, as Rice further quizzed her followers, asking "In one sentence, what one thing do you NOT like about Lestat?"

Rice followed Sunday's inquiries with a later post on Wednesday, September 26, likening TV series Hell on Wheels' main character Cullen Bohannon (and actor Anson Mount) to "Lestat in the Wild West."

The musings may seem nondescript, but Lestat's Vampire Chronicles series has been on hiatus for nearly a decade since Blood Canticle in 2003, and though Rice's 2012 novel The Wolf Gift centered around a werewolf phenomenon, Rice characterized it as having a mystical rather than supernatural theme.

It is true that filmmaker Ron Howard's production company has optioned the fourth Vampire Chronicles book, so perhaps it's that to which Rice is referring and, if so, Anson Mount could be in for a major role.

Since Lestat's last outing, Twilight fever has established itself as a watermark for popular supernatural fiction, with film stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner enjoying considerable exposure, while the Fifty Shades trilogy started as Twilight fan fantasy before spurring a rise in erotic fiction -- Rice's own dabblings with that particular sub-genre came in the 1980s, before her return to Christianity early this century.
