Young and the Restless scoop: Eric Braeden (Victor) signs new multi-year deal!
Genoa City may be losing some attractive denizens (Goodbye Genie Francis! Farewell, Marcy Rylan!) but at least one longtime resident will continue holding court at the Athletic Club. Eric Braeden — aka Victor Newman to his fans, and The Mustache to his enemies — has signed a new deal with Y&R’s production company Sony TV that will keep him on the sudser for years to come.
“Very glad we got the negotiations successfully behind us,” Braeden said in a statement (which could certainly double as a terse little tweet). Terms of his multi-year deal were not released.
Braeden’s new contract should come as good news to fans who may be worried about new Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps and how many roles she will cut to save the soap some cash. Earlier this month, she made the decision to bid farewell to Francis, who has played Genevieve Atkinson since May 2011. Rylan, aka Abby Newman, is also out the door. More changes could be on the horizon.
“I’m going into Y&R not with a hatchet but with a scalpel in order to make it function as a more economical show,” Phelps told TV Guide earlier this month.
“We have a cast of really wonderful actors but, at the end of the day, we need to look at the entire canvas and decide who is catching fire with the audience. And where can we create fire where there isn’t any?”
This appeared to be a rather uneventful renegotiation between Sony and Braeden, who has been on the show since 1980. In September of 2010, Braeden walked off the set of the soap after contract talks blew up with Sony. The production company wanted the actor to take a pay cut but he opted to leave, instead. Both parties made nice a month later.
Lindsay Bushman Out At THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS; HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS' Hunter Haley King Is The New Summer!
Lindsay Bushman is the latest actress set to leave THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. She has played an aged Summer Newman for the past few months.
The actress seemed happy with the direction of Y&R and her story on Sunday when she tweeted the following: "Keep an eye out for some maniacal storylines coming up :) with mi amigos @maxehrich @rgala #YR"
But just days later she had been replaced in the role tweeting: "Ahhh! #YR is being invaded by #HollywoodHeights and has replaced yet another actress on YR. Guess who?! Me. Haha well onward and upward ^"
Hunter Haley King, who played Adriana on HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS will be the new Summer.
New Y&R executive producer Jill Farren Phelps and head writer Josh Griffith took over the show this summer after working with Sony on HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS. Robert Adamson was the first actor they brought over (to play the new Noah).
In addition to Genie Francis, Debbi Morgan and Marcy Rylan leaving, actress Cooper Harris has tweeted about joining the soap but no word yet on who she will be playing.
Ten racks up ratings win with The Bold and the Beautiful!
Soapie The Bold and the Beautiful is racking up astonishing ratings for Ten in its afternoon time slot.
Last week The Bold and the Beautiful averaged a whopping 431,000 viewers double the figures for rivals Seven (216,000) and Nine (215,000) 4.30pm news services.
It is also around 150,000 more viewers than Ten's prime time dud I Will Survive rated last week.
On Monday, it averaged 467,000 viewers a mere 16,000 less than Ten's prime time reality show Don't Tell the Bride.
The ratings are amazing for a US soapie that has been on air for more than 25 years.
Media analyst Steve Allen says Ten's is reaping the benefit of fast-tracking and a stable time slot.
"The Bold and the Beautiful in Australia is only a couple of weeks behind America,'' Mr Allen says.
"Other US soapies such as Days of Our Lives can be a year behind.
"The Bold and the Beautiful also condenses its drama into a potent half-hour. Days of Our Lives stretches it out to an hour per episode.''
The Bold and the Beautiful is reportedly the most-watched soapie in the world, with an estimated audience of 26.2 million viewers.
Susan Lucci: 'Soaps served a purpose for millions of multigenerational passionate fans'!
SUSAN LUCCI is now on Investigation Discovery Channel’s new Saturday night show “Deadly Affairs.” We all love Susan. I asked her reaction when ABC suddenly axed her longtime daytime soap.
“Very sad. Disbelief, anger, tears, all of that. Hard even now for me to say ‘All My Children’ in the past tense. It was a dreadful mourning period. I was incredulous. Took a year to get over it. Understand, I played Erica Kane 41 years. I started on the program’s 10th day.
“Soaps served a purpose for millions of multigenerational passionate fans. Every day someone tells me they miss it. One man said: ‘Cotton is not the fabric of our lives. In our house it was ‘All My Children.’ It was a constant for his wife, who he knew always watched. Back from Afghanistan, the show was their conversation starter.
“I’m still not sure why it stopped. I had no heads up when it was going off. I learned when everybody found out, and there wasn’t even time to collect mementos. I only managed to get a red and white T-shirt that read ‘Free Erica Kane from jail.’
“Now I’m still an early riser, only not 4:30 a.m. anymore without an alarm clock. Now it’s more shopping, enjoying family, seeing a movie.”
And shooting 10 episodes of this new show all summer all around New York. Also, Marc Cherry, who created “Desperate Housewives” shot a new series pilot. It’s about Latina maids in LA households. Susan is one of the Beverly Hills ladies.
12 Students Taught By John Ingle!
The late John Ingle had an even longer-running role than he did as Edward Quartermaine in GENERAL HOSPITAL, and it took place in a classroom. Before becoming a full-time actor in the mid-1980s, the native Oklahoman spent 30 years teaching drama to students at Hollywood and Beverly Hills high schools, and moonlighting at Los Angeles City College in the evenings. During that time, he helped nurture the careers of a multitude of future stars.
Here are 12 of his most outstanding pupils:
1. Nicolas Cage. The Beverly Hills High alumnus, who went on to star in hits ranging from Moonstruck and Leaving Las Vegas to the National Treasure films, apparently thought so highly of his former teacher that he showed up to introduce Ingle as master of ceremonies at a 2001 Los Angeles arts festival.
2. Swoosie Kurtz. The star of the TV shows SISTERS and MIKE AND MOLLY took Ingle’s acting class at Beverly Hills High, and in a 1982 interview recalled Ingle as “a great man who really tapped something in me.”
3. Julie Kavner. The Beverly Hills High alumnus appeared in RHODA in the 1970s, but achieved her greatest fame as the raspy voice of Marge Simpson on the long-running animated sitcom THE SIMPSONS. In a 1992 New York Times profile of the actress, Ingle recalled her as a late bloomer who was “excellent at improvisation, but she wasn’t an ingenue.”
4. Richard Dreyfuss. In a 1985 interview, Ingle recalled that he told the star of movies such as Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind that he wouldn’t make it “unless he lost some of his brashness,” adding: “Fortunately, he didn’t listen to me.”
5. Albert Brooks. The comedy director (Defending Your Life, Lost in America) and actor (Broadcast News) paid tribute to Ingle via Twitter: “R.I.P John Ingle. General Hospital star and my high school drama teacher. Wonderful guy.”
6. Linda Evans - The actress starred in DYNASTY as Krystle Carrington and in THE BIG VALLEY as Audra Barkley.
7. Barbara Hershey - The actress won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for A Killing in a Small Town. She won two consecutive Best Actress awards at the Cannes Film Festival for Shy People and A World Apart.
8. Mike Farrell - The actor's 50 year career includes his signature role as Captain B.J. Hunnicut in M*A*S*H.
9. David Schwimmer - The actor is best known for his role as Ross Gellar in FRIENDS.
10. Stefanie Powers - The actress is probably best known for her work in the 1980s crime drama HART TO HART.
11. Meredith Baxter - Most famous for her role as Elise Keaton in FAMILY TIES, the actress is also beloved for her work as Nancy in FAMILY.
12. Jonathan Prince - The producer/writer/actor was the executive producer of shows like AMERICAN DREAMS and CANE.
Best Soap Operas Of All Time: ABC and People Magazine Reveal Top 5!
What are the greatest television shows of all time? Who are our favorite TV mom and dad? Who is our favorite television host of all time? A collaboration between ABC News and PEOPLE magazine gave TV fans the opportunity to vote online for their favorites of all time. With more than one million votes cast, the results in some categories are being revealed during a two-hour broadcast, a special edition of 20/20, "Best in TV: The Greatest TV Shows of Our Time with Barbara Walters," airing Tuesday night.
The viewers choice for best soap opera is being revealed online. Watch Barbara Walters count down the The Top 5 below:
First Look: Days of Our Lives' Will and Sonny Share a Kiss!
This isn't the first time Days of Our Lives buddies Will and Sonny have technically locked lips. Their first kiss, which aired last month on the NBC soap, was such a hot awkward mess it sent Will straight to bed with (gasp!) a girl.
But TV Guide Magazine now has the first look at the real deal. And it's going to change Days history.
The scene, airing Friday, features Will (Emmy winner Chandler Massey) and Sonny (Freddie Smith) in a smooch that will officially launch their long-delayed, star-crossed romance.
Warning: It may take a while for the boys to hit the sack. Check back during November sweeps!
Huge cast-cuts begin at The Young & the Restless with more to come!
Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps told TV Guide that some changes might be made to save cash. "I’m going into Y&R not with a hatchet but with a scalpel in order to make it function as a more economical show,” she said.
Genie Francis has been let go from her role as Genevieve!
According to our sources, Francis (who joined the soap in 2011 as Cane's mother) was informed that she was being let go for budget reasons.
A spokesperson for Y&R reminds that the show does not comment on contracts.
Julia Pace Mitchell (Sofia) has been put on recurring status with the show. The actress herself confirms it, but confesses she doesn't necessarily mind!
"I'm so happy to be here," she enthuses. "Every time I come to work, I'm excited to see Jeanne [Cooper, Katherine] and Stephen [Nichols, Tucker] work. This show has changed my whole life. It's really cool. These are the hardest working actors in show business."
Marcy Rylan (Abby) has also been let go from the soap.
The actress was cast in the role of Victor and Ashley's daughter in May 2010, shortly after wrapping her stint as GUIDING LIGHT's Lizzie when that show went off the air. Nonetheless, the actress seems to be taking the news in stride. "I had a blast at Y&R and I'm taking all those awesome memories with me!" she tweeted. "I am so excited to see what will come next! Love you all!"
Debbi Morgan's days of playing THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Harmony are coming to an end.
Morgan has announced that she has been fired as well.
"To all my twitter fans," Morgan posted last night. "Wanted to B the first to tell you the new regime has let me go from Y&R. Will tape my last show Oct. 5th & I move on!"
We're hearing is that Jennifer Landon, who only just joined the cast of in June as the latest Heather recast, has also been let go.
There are also rumors that Michael Graziadei (Daniel) and Billy Miller (Billy) will be exiting the soap when their current contracts are up
The exits come just as the Y&R cast is beginning to shoot the scenes written by new scribe Josh Griffith (his episodes begin to air on October 12), and there may still be more cast cuts to come.

And with a simple "I love you, too," a thumbs up and a smile, we say goodbye to John Ingle's indelible depiction of Edward Quartermaine. His bigger than life portrayal will live on in the hearts of countless fans.
First Look at IF YOU START A FIRE starring OLTL's Lenny Platt!
IF YOU START A FIRE [BE PREPARED TO BURN] is an internet sex comedy for the recession generation by Kevin Kautzman that follows a young couple, Chris and Lucy, as they search for unusual, sexually charged ways to survive the difficulties of the Recession, with consequences both hilarious and shocking.
Congratulations To Mr. & Mrs. Duell!!
Congratulations are in order for GENERAL HOSPITAL's Chad Duell (Michael), who married finacée Taylor Novack this past Saturday, September 15. The couple tied the knot in front of family and friends at a private residence in Cave Creek, Arizona. The actor admitted the weather was a bit on the hot side, but declared, "It was an amazing day. Unbelievably beautiful. It was great having our families come together to share it with us."
Sean Kanan Returning To GENERAL HOSPITAL!
Sean Kanan appeared at the end of today's episode of THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL as Deacon Sharpe, but it's a former character he may be reprising that was the bigger surprise of the day. According to TV Guide Magazine, Kanan is heading back to GENERAL HOSPITAL where he played A.J. Quartermaine in the 1990s.
Kanan first airdate is scheduled for October 29, but what role will he be playing? A.J. (then played by Billy Warlock) was killed off the soap in 2005.
"This is all pretty surreal and utterly unexpected — in fact, I thought it was going to take an Act of Congress to get me back on GH!" Kanan told the magazine. "GH is one of those places I never thought I'd see again and that makes what's happened even more exciting. My life has changed completely since those days. I'm newly married and have a baby on the way. I also have an 11-year-old daughter and four stepchildren. I'm not the guy I used to be."
Kanan signed a contract with GENERAL HOSPITAL. His former TV brother, Steve Burton, exits GH and the role of Jason Morgan on October 22.
Will A.J. be resurrected?
THE CHEW Goes "Behind the Soap Screen" With GENERAL HOSPITAL!
GENERAL HOSPITAL star Ingo Rademacher mentioned taping an appearance on THE CHEW recently on Twitter and now ABC has revealed all the details of a "Behind the Soap Screen" series on ABC Daytime food/talk show in a new press release:
Beginning MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 fans of “General Hospital” have another reason to celebrate as “The Chew” pays house calls to some of the popular drama’s most celebrated stars. “General Hospital” airs at 2:00 p.m., ET/1:00 p.m., PT, immediately following “The Chew” on ABC.
Gordon Elliott, executive producer of “The Chew,” announced today that The Talk & lifestyle show will launch a four-part series next week entitled “Behind the Soap Screen,” featuring an in-depth look into the lives of Julie Berman (“Lulu Spencer”), Finola Hughes (“Anna Devane”), Ingo Rademacher (“Jasper ‘Jax’ Jacks”) and Erik Valdez (“Trey Mitchell”). The stars will open their homes to “The Chew” for a glance into their private, off-screen lives, sharing recipes and hobbies.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to showcase our neighbors from Port Charles,” said Elliott. “Daytime television is all about showcasing personalities, building relationships and storytelling, and many of the ‘General Hospital’ actors are closet gourmets. We are looking forward to having them on the show.”
An outing to Julie Berman’s home includes a peek at her kitchen, where she and husband, Michael Grady, prepare one of their favorite dishes, a grilled chicken and basil pizza.
Finola Hughes proudly displays her green thumb as she tends her impressive vegetable garden in Malibu. The actress, who grows apples, plums, peaches and avocados, prepares a mouth-watering feta, cherry tomato, kalamata olive creation with flatbread, all with ingredients from her garden.
Ingo Rademacher unveils his breathtaking Hawaiian home, where he resides with his wife and two children. Rademacher’s trip includes his backyard, where he grows avocados and raises livestock. He shares his recipe for the perfect avocado and scallion omelet, and takes fellow “General Hospital” co-star Sebastian Roché (“Jerry Jacks”) for a paddleboard lesson.
Texas born and raised Erik Valdez cooks a dish he learned from his grandmother. He puts his own spin on her classic ground turkey taco recipe with guacamole, Pico de Gallo, rice and beans, and cooks for his “General Hospital” co-star, Lindsey Morgan (“Kristina Davis”).
Carolyn Hennesy returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL!
Hennesy tweeted the news: "Morning...almost afternoon muffins! Well, for those who guessed GH...you are correct! Diane is coming back to PC!"
Kristian Alfonso dishes on the end of Bo & Hope!
Alfonso is enthusiastic for the upcoming storylines at Days of our Lives. The soap recently underwent another regime change by welcoming back Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell as co-headwriters. "I have to say, I'm enjoying the scripts! I love the dialog; it's snappy, quick and heartfelt."
The actress confesses that she's also fascinated with storylines across the board, "Something happens with Daniel, so I was talking to Shawn [Christian] about it and said 'Oh my gosh! I can't believe that happens with Nicole!' He's like, 'What?' I haven't read it yet! It tells you how much we're all enjoying the writing and stories."
While regime changes have been quite common at the NBC soap, the biggest change coming up will be the exit of Peter Reckell, who plays Hope's leading man Bo Brady. While Alfonso inked a new deal to stay on, Reckell decided to leave when the actor and Sony could not agree on salary. While it came as a shock to fans, Alfonso knew Reckell's exit was a possibility. "Peter told me four months before he was leaving. We had many conversations about it. One day he was staying, then he wasn't...then it was a maybe. We have all had to take cuts. This was his choice and he seemed happy about it."
Reckell is set to exit later this fall. Alfonso admits she can't exactly say when, as the show tapes three months in advance, but Bo's exit is coming up. "He was really emotional on his last day. I remember holding him during our last scene, and I could feel the emotion in his body and his eyes filled up a little bit with tears. I said, 'Do you want to take five minutes?' He replied, 'No, I'm good.' So we did our last scenes together and they were beautifully written. Peter did a phenomenal job. I will definitely miss Bo and Hope."
While most fans can't imagine Hope without Bo, Alfonso is looking to the future. "We've worked individually before, without one and another, so I think it's going to be okay. I'm excited about stories that are going to come into fruition [because of Bo's exit]. They have a lot of great ideas. I'm excited to see what lands on the pages."
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Celebrates 10,000 With Funeral Of Victor Newman!
Daytime’s top-rated soap, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, will celebrate a milestone 10,000th episode on Thursday, September 27 on CBS. The show will also celebrate its 40th anniversary next March.
In the episode, surprises await the characters as they gather for the funeral of presumed dead billionaire Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
“We’re proud to have reached this milestone,” said Angelica McDaniel, Senior VP, Daytime, CBS Entertainment. “10,000 episodes of a show is almost unheard of in television, and on behalf of everyone at CBS, Sony and the Bell Dramatic Serial Company, congratulations to the wonderful cast, the crew and the fans of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. We have many more stories to tell and are excited for what lies ahead.”
“THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS marking its 10,000th episode is a testament to the solid storytelling, compelling characters and the production elements, earning the loyalty of daytime audiences for over four decades,” said Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President, Programming, Sony Pictures Television. “We honor all of the producers, writers, actors and crew who have contributed to this amazing achievement.”
Audrey Landers Returning To DALLAS!
Audrey Landers will be reprising her role as Afton Cooper in Season Two of DALLAS.
"I do not know for how many episodes or when, but it's a definite," she told TV Guide Magazine. "I do know it's not going to be in the beginning of the season. I am just really, really excited, because it feels like going back home. I'm also so happy for the fans who have been so persistent all these months. Now they won't be disappointed!"
At the end of Season 1 it was revealed Rebecca is actually the daughter of Cliff Barnes and Afton.
Kelly Monaco on Jason's exit!
Originally, there were plans to lighten Kelly's load at work, but the impending departure of beloved GH star Steve Burton, who plays Sam's husband (although they're divorcing on the show), Jason Morgan, has meant more material.
"They're wrapping up a nine-year relationship," Kelly said.
Steve, who plays lethal killer Jason on the show, is moving with his family to Tennessee after more than two decades on "GH," and Kelly doesn't even want to think about her co-star leaving.
"Man, I haven't even been able to cross that bridge yet. I don't like goodbyes," she said. "I'd like to think that he's just gonna take a little vacation and come back. I know it might be wishful thinking."
Kelly has an inkling of how Jason will exit Port Charles, and she said it's likely to be "pretty dramatic."
Lisa Rinna Involved in Car Accident!
DAYS OF OUR LIVES actress Lisa Rinna is shaken but okay after a scary car accident Friday morning.
toofab spoke with the actressafter the collision. Rinna said she was driving down Mulholland Drive after dropping her daughter Amelia off at school. A driver in the left lane next to her made a sharp right turn into Rinna's Mercedes 400. Her car was pushed off the road.
The damage to her car was pretty severe, but she was able to drive home because she lived nearby. She had her car towed from her house to the body shop.
"I'm very lucky," Rinna said. "He hit me pretty hard." She's experiencing soreness in her neck and body and plans on visiting the chiropractor to get checked up.
Because there were no severe injuries and the other driver was insured, no cops were called.
Rinna took to Twitter to thank her fans for all their concerns: "Thank you for all of the lovey messages I'm good and a car can be fixed! Thank my angels for keeping me safe and no kids in the car!"
Drake Hogestyn previews Kristen's return on DAYS OF OUR LIVES!
"It's a very interesting storyline," Hogestyn says. "She comes back, and John's accepting her at face value. She says she's changed, but there are some indicators that's she's back for something more. So right now, it's been very interesting. We're happy to have [Eileen Davidson back] because Dee and I are now in a very strong storyline, and that's good. The audience is really going to be onboard with it."
The future is bright for DAYS OF OUR LIVES star Molly Burnett!
"I actually just shot an episode for the sitcom ZACH STONE IS GONNA BE FAMOUS with Bo Burnham for MTV which was amazing! And I just started filming for a movie for Hallmark called This Magic Moment with Vincent Spano, Travis Schuldt, Charles Shaughnessy and Aliana Huffman which I'm so excited about since it's my first movie!"
Who Is The New Y&R Girl?!
In the midst of all the firings from THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, it seems that a new face will soon be joining the cast of the show: actress Cooper Harris.
Harris posted the news on her Facebook page that upon returning to Los Angeles from New York Fashion Week, she learned that she starts filming on Y&R this week. "This tickles me; I'm kinda obsessed with soaps," she wrote. Meanwhile, on her Twitter feed, pals began to congratulate her on her Y&R role. "Thanks!!! Excited to get on a soap before they all leave us like beautiful prehistoric beasts."
Although Harris is teasing that the character she'll be playing in Genoa City must remain a mystery, buzz is that she'll be interacting with Daniel Goddard's Cane and Christel Khalil's Lily. The Facebook page for THE GREATEST ADVENTURES OF MIGHTY WOMAN -- an upcoming Web comedy series in which the actress and producer stars -- says that she'll be recurring in their post touting her casting on the soap.
GH’s Ingo Rademacher Clarifies Controversial Tweet: “One Hospital To Kill”!!
Ingo Rademacher wraps up his current visit to General Hospital as Jasper Jacks next week on September 26th, but a show source has hinted that the popular leading men may be coming back to Port Charles for more visits down the road!
In the meantime, in the current issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, the actor had the opportunity to clear the air in regards to his controversial tweet that he put out in January, when it was announced that then One Life to Live’s Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati were moving over to General Hospital as executive producer and head writer, respectively.
In the tweet, Rademacher seemed to also take to task the handful of actors that were also coming with Cartini to Port Charles. The tweet in question read, “It seems like the new show should be called, “One Hospital To Kill” Oops to late … I tweeted that. I’ll take the blame. Just kidding Not.”
Rademacher now tells SOD what he meant by his words: “It was a more of a go at the network because they were killing everything. I was sitting there one day thinking, this would be appropriate for what they’re doing. That’s what it seemed like. Now they did a lot of firing. It was way overdue for a change there. So my new name now for the show is ONE HOSPITAL YOU CAN’T KILL. I think they’re realizing that those talk shows and cooking shows and stuff, it’s just too many of them right now. You had The Revolution and The Chew and they’re both the same almost.”
“There’s a lot of soap opera fans out there and you really notice it when you get around the country. Everywhere you go people watch the show. It would be a real shame if they got rid of them altogether. Maybe people will get more into it now because there aren’t as many choices. Hopefully, it will pick up more viewers.”

Ingle last taped "General Hospital" this year, on August 24, and his final appearance aired September 11, fulfilling a wish to play Edward one last time. And with a simple "I love you, too," a thumbs up and a smile, we say goodbye to John Ingle's indelible depiction of Edward Quartermaine. His bigger than life portrayal will live on in the hearts of countless fans.
Hennesy tweeted the news: "Morning...almost afternoon muffins! Well, for those who guessed GH...you are correct! Diane is coming back to PC!"
According to the official fan page of John Driscoll (ex-Chance, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS; Coop, GUIDING LIGHT), the actor has recently joined the military! The runners of the fan club Web site have announced that they will be putting the fan page on hiatus for the time being as Driscoll goes through training, which they expect will last for a year. Our best wishes to Driscoll as he serves his country.
