The CW Reportedly Developing SMALLVILLE-Styled Wonder Woman TV Series Titled AMAZON

Although NBC passed on David E. Kelly's much talked about pilot based on the longstanding comic book heroine, it's now being reported that The CW network is developing one alongside Warner Bros Television and DC Entertainment

Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Red Dawn) was set to star in the title role of NBC's Wonder Woman, a series that would a reinvent the iconic DC Comics' character as a vigilante crime fighter and successful corporate executive in Los Angeles. The show's theme would revolve around Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman) a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Elizabeth Hurley, Cary Elwes and Justin Bruening were also set to star in the series.

After months of controversy surrounding the project due to widespread displeasure over everything from the Wonder Woman suit to the series' storyline, NBC opted to pass on airing the pilot and no other network picked it up. Now it's being reported that the Amazonian princess may get another chance to make her return to the small screen.

The CW is now developing a script for a Wonder Woman series that would tell the origin of the character. Vulture has the scoop: "The new take on the comic book crime fighter is being written by Allan Heinberg (Grey's Anatomy, The O.C.) under the working title Amazon. Unlike past TV incarnations, it will focus on Wonder Woman as a young, budding superhero, rather than a fully formed defender of liberty. (Think Smallville, but instead of a "no tights, no flights" rule, this show might have a "no bracelets, no crown" mandate.) Heinberg seems a logical candidate for the job: His resume includes work on the kinds of soapy dramas the CW favors as well as comic-geek street cred (he wrote the Young Avengers comic book series back in 2005)."

The network has another DC Comics-based series, Arrow, scheduled to begin airing this year beginning October 10th.
