Following up The Amazing Spider-Man, actress Emma Stone has been cast by director Cameron Crowe for a role in a romantic comedy he's written, Deep Tiki, according to Variety.
Originally, the project was expected to star Reese Witherspoon and Ben Stiller and follow 2005's Elizabethtown, but scheduling conflicts caused delays, according to Collider.com.
There was a long break in production before Crowe's last film, We Bought a Zoo, starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson, released last December.
The idea for Deep Tiki has been rewritten by Crowe and could change from the previous version, which centered on a former military weapons consultant sent to Hawaii to supervise the launch of a spy satellite where he discovers himself among the mythical island lore. Production is planned for the spring.
Stone will costar in Gangster Squad with Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling in January. The film about Los Angeles police and the Mafia was scheduled for release this fall but was postponed until 2013 to edit and reshoot a scene depicting a shootout in a movie theater.
Also, Stone appears in Movie 43, an ensemble comedy of intertwining tales by various directors including actress Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) and costarring Richard Gere.
