RAP star Professor Green provoked fury yesterday by saying “Bulimia is quite an intelligent eating disorder.”
He added on Twitter: “It would be easier just to chew food and spit it out but still, you get to eat whatever you want and stay skinny.”
Some of his 1,200,000 followers reacted in disgust to his vile words about bulimia, which affects up to 1.6 million people in the UK.
Tweets flooded back to the star, with users branding him “sick and disgusting”.
Another follower, called c dawg, said: “Not your biggest fan, but you are jokkeee.”
Clinical nurse specialist Dan Round, who treats people with eating conditions through a York-based organisation, said bulimia was a life-threatening condition.
He said: “There is a lot of stigma and misunderstanding surrounding eating disorders. They are not just about food and wanting to be thin.
“It is a serious, potentially fatal, mental illness that affects 1.6 million people in the UK and requires professional help.”
Professor Green — real name Stephen Manderson — tried to defend himself by saying he wanted to find a way of not getting fat while holidaying in New York with super-slim girlfriend, Made In Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh.
He tweeted: “I’m over they heads like a bulimic on a sea-saw,” and “Queue all the people who start telling me how insensitive I am and how bulimia jokes aren’t funny yadda yadda yadda.”
Another tweet from Green read: “Queue = cue. Apologies. that sin was far worse than making light of an eating condition.”
The East London-born star even tried to justify his comments with a joke about obsessive-compulsive disorder.
He tweeted: “I have OCD, I find OCD jokes funny, even though I can hardly drink from a cup if someone else even looks at it.”
Earlier this month Millie maintained that a three-day juice diet was not for weight loss, but instead a pre-Ibiza health kick.
The couple have just jetted out to America to celebrate Millie’s 23rd birthday.
Professor Green uses crude lyrics about a bulimic woman in his song At Your Inconvenience.
Not far into the song he says: “I’m the anecdote to that s**t, bringing back strap s**t, soon as I’m done calling this bulimic a fat bitch.”
