Rene Russo On 'Thor' Sequel: Loki Needs His Mommy

When Loki returns to Asgard in "Thor: The Dark World," he's going to have lots of explaining to do. But it's not just his "father" Odin's wrath he needs to fear — he might be in store for a lashing from mommy dearest, too.

Rene Russo, who starred as Frigga in the first "Thor" film, recently spoke with Vulture and confirmed that she'll be back for the upcoming Alan Taylor-directed sequel, hopefully with a beefed up role — if only so she can give the trickster god a piece of her mind.

"You know, they cut me [down] in the first film," Russo told the blog. "[Director] Kenneth Branagh sent me a nice note, because he understood, he's an actor. You move on, what are you going to do? But I think they're going to need a good mom in the next film. Loki needs his mom. What the hell?"

But Frigga's response to Loki's actions in both "Thor" and "Marvel's The Avengers" might not be as caustic as one would normally imagine. "I have a lot of compassion for him," she said. "But we might have to have a conversation about what he just did."

Before returning to Asgard, though, Russo said she's got some studying up to do first.

"I am so confused - is Thor my son or not? People have been telling me recently, 'No, you're not his mother.' It's all so confusing! I got to tell ya, it would be a little embarrassing if I don't know. I need to read more about her," she said. When Vulture offered to hook her up with some comics to further explore Frigga's history, Russo replied, "As long as it's not too complicated. I prefer fewer words in my comics! I grew up on Archie!"

Loki doesn't need to explain himself; he does what he wants.
