You might not know it yet, but you've probably already heard Wynter Gordon. She is the singer of bouncy club hit "Dirty Talk," has previously collaborated with Major Lazer and Flo Rida, and has written lyrics for the likes of J. Lo, Mary J. Blige, and Estelle. However, Gordon's newest single "Stimela," from her self-released four-part project titled The Human Condition, finds a very different incarnation of the singer than the one most often heard blasting in clubs or on the radio.
Opening with a shot of Gordon in a sheer, tiger-striped robe, arms outstretched in a gesture that at once beckons and demands the audience keep their distance, "Stimela" propels the listener through a pounding, energetic, emotional five minutes. The tension of the opening shot carries throughout and breaks only for Gordon's soaring vocals and the '80s Genesis-style drumbeat. It's an incredibly personal single and an equally personal video—the singer's directorial debut.
"Stimela is the very first video I directed," Gordon explained. "I wanted it to be an emotional visual art piece, displaying humans as free, powerful animals. We are all running from something or searching for something; our instincts have been ignored. This is me finally listening to them. This is to finally listening."
After this dynamic, emotional single, we have the feeling a lot of people will finally start listening.
