Juno Temple, Zoe Kravitz & Bella Heathcote in Nylon

Our May issue is always devoted to Young Hollywood, the crop of rising stars who've gotten industry buzz, but so far, no tabloid headlines. For this year's cover, we've chosen three alums of past YH issues: Australian Bella Heathcote (currently starring in Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer), Brit Juno Temple (whose heap of films slated to come out in the next year might make her 2013's Jessica Chastain), and American Zoe Kravitz, who recently wrapped the mysterious sci-fi epic After Earth with M. Night Shyamalan.

Each actress has a lot to say about life behind a movie screen; here's a sampler of their various points of view.

Zoe Kravitz, on today's concept of fame:
"I think because of the Internet and everyone's obsession with celebrity and paparazzi and blogs and phones being hacked, we have an incredible amount of access to other people's lives. People now expect more than a performance. They expect to know what you do and what you're wearing and who you're fucking and what you ate that day and what time you took a shit... [When I was at Jennifer Lawrence's house] she was like, "Can we just stay home and watch TV all night? I can't leave my house." And I was like, "Jen, I'm not going to bullshit you. This isn't going away tomorrow.""

Zoe on her Personal Style:
"I feel like everyone thinks that everyone should look the same - clean cut. If I go to a party and my hair's messy and my shirt's ripped or whatever, it's like, 'She's a crackhead.' I'm like, 'Do I have to look like a fucking perfect Barbie doll?' The cool thing about fashion is that if you do it right, it's an art form and it's a way to express yourself."

Bella Heathcote, on becoming an actress.
"By the end [of school] I was like, I'm just gonna do acting, and if that doesn't work out, then I'll pursue something else. Why would I aim for the fallback plan? That seemed a bit shit."

Bella on being mislabeled Brad Pitt's mistress by a tabloid.
"I was just like, 'This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read!' The worst thing was, I started getting emails from my friends and family in Australia. They were like, 'How could you? You didn't even tell me!'"

Juno Temple, on L.A.'s big life lesson.
"When you get off a plane in L.A. it's like no one gives a shit what you've done; they wanna know what you're going to do. It's kind of a great way to look at life."

Little Birds director Elgin James, on why Juno Temple is amazing:
"She's probably one of the toughest and bravest people I know. I'm not saying that just as words. I was in a gang for 20 years, you know, and hands-down this little English thing is the most loyal, tough, brave friend that I have."
