Watch Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy Raise a Child Together in This St. Vincent Trailer

Hard to believe that it has been 15 years since Bill Murray starred in Wes Anderson’s whip smart coming-of-age comedy, Rushmore, playing the unlikely father figure to a wayward male youth in a private-school uniform. In the first trailer for St. Vincent, from writer/director Theodore Melfi, Bill Murray appears to dust off that archetype by playing another unlikely father figure to a male youth in a private-school uniform. Only this time around, the boy has a hard-working mother (played by Melissa McCarthy) rather than a father, and Murray’s character is a broke war vet rather than a fabulously wealthy industrialist.

Having seemingly spent all of his money on over-the-top accessories that telegraph his eccentricity—Ray Charles-style wraparound sunglasses, a long-haired white cat, a cut-off T-shirt, a convertible with wood paneling, and a hideous bicep tattoo—Murray’s character Vincent is broke. As such, he agrees to “babysit” his new 12-year-old neighbor (played by Jaeden Lieberher) by teaching him about race tracks, bars, fist fights, and a pregnant Russian stripper (played by Naomi Watts and a liberal spray tan) in their coming-of-age journey together. Sadly, the trailer seems a bit underwhelming for a comedy featuring two of the funniest people alive in the promising (if hackneyed) scenario of raising a kid together. But who are we kidding—the trailer could have been 30 seconds of black screen and, knowing that Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy are starring, we would still see the movie anyway.

St. Vincent arrives in theaters October 24.

Here for this entire cast tbh.
I figured ONTD could relate to the very first scene of the trailer, what w/ the student loans & all.

That said, do you have a mentor, ONTD?
