Kiesza announces her unapologetically dance-ready debut EP Hideaway (Island Records/4th and B’way/Lokal Legend), hitting July 8. Her hit single “Hideaway” rocketed to the #1 spot in the UK charts earlier this year as the fastest-selling debut of year, while her serious vocal range has critics fawning.
Kiesza’s one-take video for the first single, “Hideaway,” celebrates the timelessness of early house music and Kiesza‘s particular flavor of throwback dancing, and over 34 million viewers seem to agree. She brings that energy to a performance on The Late Show With David Letterman on July 9.
“Hideaway” continues to spread vivaciously around the world. It has reached #1 on iTunes charts in 14 countries and #3 on the global Shazam chart. While Kiesza‘s “decidedly hands-in-the-air optimistic dance vibe” (FADER) is fresh to most, Kiesza has been at it since she was 17: dancing, song-writing, playing various instruments and attending Berklee School of Music on full scholarship. Kiesza always had music in her soul, training in ballet for more than a decade. Her mom also assembled a Jackson Five tribute band with Kiesza and her brothers, as Michael Jackson is one of her biggest influences.
Her path is not the norm, as she’s gone from a code breaker in Royal Canadian Navy (who attempted to recruit the sharp-shot as a sniper) to the face of FENDI’s Color Block sunglasses.
Kiesza also recently performed at Canada’s Much Music Video Awards, along with Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons, and Lorde.
Globetrotting like never before, Kiesza has also been busy on the festival circuit. From UK’s The Great Escape and Glastonbury Festival to Toronto’s North By Northeast, she’s been on the road with her deep house cuts and shimmering soulful melodies. The Evening Standard said of her recent performance at XOYO, “Kiesza vogued like Madonna…The Canadian stepped back into another musical era that felt fresh and vital.”
