1987 Cult Classic "Dolls" Is Getting The Collector's Edition Blu-ray Treatment

$

With less than 2 weeks until Annabelle hits theaters, it's the perfect time to talk about the upcoming Collector's Edition Blu-ray release of Dolls.

Before the Child's Play and Puppet Master series of films there was Dolls. Filmed in Italy in 1985, Dolls wasn't released until 1987 due to time consuming post-production re-shoots of the killer toys. (They were originally marionettes and the scenes with them had to be re-shot in stop motion animation because their strings were visible on film in every light setting.)

Before script writer Ed Naha was brought on to the project in the mid-80s, Charles Band, the man who formed Empire Pictures, had already commissioned the artwork shown on the Blu-ray image on the right (The reverse key art). Initially he had envisioned the film to be about a single killer doll, so the title was "The Doll" during this pre-script period of time.

The screen grab after the cut is of the character Isabel (played by Bunty Bailey, the woman who appears in A-ha's "Take On Me" video) Her look in Dolls was obviously inspired by Madonna!

Synopsis

FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU RE-ANIMATOR
They're cute, they're cuddly...and they kill! From horror director Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator), producer Brian Yuzna (Society) and screenwriter Ed Naha (Troll) comes this "fiendish nightmare" (The Hollywood Reporter) that combines the pint-sized playmates of childhood with bone-chilling fun, resulting in "a bloody bonbon you chew with relish" (Los Angeles Times)!

A precocious girl, her nasty parents, two punk-rock losers and a weak-kneed salesman inadvertently become the guests of two ghoulish senior citizens in their dark, haunted mansion. The old couple makes and collects dolls that, when not sitting still like good little mannequins, creep around in the night, offing the guests one by one! You may laugh at first, but if they turn on you, you'll regret it...for the rest of your short life! Guy Rolfe (Puppet Master III, Mr. Sardonicus), Stephen Lee (Robocop 2) and Carolyn Purdy-Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond) star in this bloody good terror trap that delivers its frights, fun and fantastic effects in equal measure.

NCIS spoilers suggest that Cote de Pablo could be reprising her role at Ziva David in Season 12. According to TV Guide, the show’s creator Gary Glasberg revealed some interesting things about the new season, and fans are super excited for things to get underway. Glasberg said that the new season is going to be “character-driven.”

Apparently Dinozzo is going to move on from Ziva this season. Actor Michael Weatherly explained that Season 12 is going to be great for his character, who will have “more fun” than ever before.

“I think he’s moved past the wounded bird [phase]. It’s really exciting. I don’t think I’ve been this excited since maybe Season 3…. I think Season 12 is going to be a revelatory year. He’s probably going to have more fun than he’s ever had.”

If Ziva comes back, Dinozzo might have a change of heart.

As most fans of Cote de Pablo know, the actress has been working on a miniseries called Dovekeepers, as previously reported by The Inquisitr. The show is on CBS, which means Cote didn’t leave the family so-to-speak, so her return may not be that farfetched of an idea.

Multiple sources tell TMZ ... Wiz and Amber are each accusing the other of cheating.

You can keep all the blood and guts you want with that show and just give me an hour of Charles Dance and Lena Headey saying very passive aggressive things to one another. Now, we will get the chance to see them outside of King's Landing and on the big screen, as the two have signed on for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was just picked up by Screen Gems for U.S. distribution.

The film is based on the popular Jane Austen parody by author Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). It follows the story we have all seen countless versions of about Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) and her love interest Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley)
(click the link to see the rest of the cast). Except this time there is a zombie uprising. The film also stars Matt Smith, Bella Heathcoate, Jack Huston, and Douglas Booth.

The only thing of Mr. Grahame-Smith's I have encountered was the aforementioned film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which I pretty much hated. I, in theory, can see the mash-up of history and genre as a charming idea, but that film was as far from charming as it could be. Even Benjamin Walker couldn't help it (Note: Go check out the Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson original cast recording). Though, I will still see this out of curiosity, especially after this casting report.

Emma Watson’s #HeForShe Campaign Gains Hollywood Support

A number of celebrities including Russell Crowe and Simon Pegg have thrown their support behind Emma Watson's #HeForShe campaign.

The actress was heralded with kickstarting the movement, which implores men to join the fight for gender equality, after giving an amazing speech on what it means to be a feminist.

"Why has the word become such an unpopular one? I think it is right I am paid the same as my male counterparts," said Watson. "I think it is right that I should make decisions about my own body. I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decisions that affect my life. I think it is right that socially, I am afforded the same respect as men."

The Harry Potter actress then asked men around the world to join women in the fight for gender equality.

"I am reaching out to you because we need your help," Watson said. "We must try to mobilise as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change. We don't just want to talk about it. We want to try and make sure it's tangible."

Almost 100,000 men have already signed up to the #HeForShe movement, with thousands sharing pictures of themselves holding signs with the hashtag.

"Husband to a wife, father to a daughter, son to a mother. You bet I'm on board, @EmWatson! #heforshe," tweeted Simon Pegg.

Sadly, Watson has also been the target of a series of online threats in response to her campaign.

"A website has been set up with the title 'Emma You Are Next', along with the words, 'never forget, the biggest to come thus far', said Gawker.

While the basis of the threats is unclear, a clock counting down to three days from now indicates the actress may be the target of an imminent online attack.

It's suspected hackers may be planning to reveal photos from Watson's phone following her speech, which only serves to further highlight the need for such a campaign.

Below are a few of our favourite #HeforShe campaign tweets:

20 People Heard Kanye West’s New Album Last Night

Fans have been itching for a new Kanye West album for a while now, and there’s increasing evidence that one is actually on the way. On Wednesday night, Yeezy reportedly played the new disc for a select few lucky listeners in Paris.

“So shortly after this picture I Only remember kanye playing his new album 3 times in a dark room of 20 people last night and moshing drunk with mad babes haha,” Theophilus London wrote to caption an Instagram photo of him and Kanye. The two have been spending some time together recently, as ‘Ye executive produced TL’s upcoming album Vibes, and London spoke highly of Kanye’s upcoming adidas collection.

Up to this point, not many details have been divulged about the rapper’s follow up to Yeezus, but we did get a small taste in August when an an unfinished version of the track “All Day” hit the ‘net.

Though it seems like we’ll be lucky to get it before 2015, at first, the album was supposed to drop over the summer. “I was thinking [the record] could somehow come out in June, like Yeezus, and just kill it for the summer,” ‘Ye told GQ earlier this year. “But then I’m like, I have to work on Adidas and be with my child.”

“For the new album, one new thing could change everything,” he added. “I had an idea of the way I wanted to do the album. And then I got a new song that’s so good that the album has to be balanced against it. This song is a song that can be in the club like ‘Don’t Like’ or ‘N—as in Paris.’ Whereas before I was working on the album and I had these beautiful songs, they were just more songs. They weren’t saying, ‘Okay, tuck your whole summer in.’ They were just saying, ‘Hey, I’m a great musician, I make these beautiful songs, and they have all this meaning, and nobody can make anything that means this much.’”

♘Outlander♘ Mid-Season Finale: Showrunner Ron Moore on What To Expect

$

0

"Outlander" wraps up its 2014 run this Saturday night with a big mid-season finale on Starz.

This weekend's episode, titled "Both Sides Now," follows the high of last Saturday's wedding, which delighted fans who were glued to their TV sets as Claire (Caitriona Balfe) married Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). And the show's Executive Producer, Ronald D. Moore, enjoyed reading the Tweets people posted about the romantic episode.

"I sort of scanned through some of the responses online. After an episode airs, I always sort of do a quick overview to kind of get a sampling, and I was very pleased. People seem really excited, really moved. There was a lot of just happy fans, and happy viewers and it was great," he said.

Ron and his wife, "Outlander" Costume Designer Terry Dresbach (who designed the elegant and stunning dress Caitriona wore as her character became Claire Fraser), were awake in Scotland during the wee hours as the episode rolled out on Starz.

"It was great. Terry and I stayed up – we were here in Scotland and I think it was on air at like 2 AM our time and we stayed up to watch it live and sort of see people react live. It was a great moment. It was one of the high points of the first year," he said.

Season 1 of "Outlander" has now wrapped production. When Access spoke to Ron, shortly before the final cut, he was enjoying being so close to that moment.

"It's amazing to feel like we're actually going to complete this season," he said. "It will be day 202 of the shoot, which is just an astonishing number, so we're tired, proud, but definitely ready to wrap."

As the episodes of the show wrap up airing for 2014, fans can expect "Outlander" to go out with a bang. Access has seen the mid-season finale, and it is one thrilling hour of television.

Fans can expect a new side of Frank on display in the episode.

"They have Frank come back in 8, so there's a whole chunk in 8 of seeing what's been happening with Frank," Tobias Menzies (Frank Randall/Black Jack Randall), previously told Access."And it's a nice episode, actually, because you sort of see kind of Frank trying to come to terms with what's happened and a little bit of he kind of despairs and has a moment of sort of violence, where you see, in a way, a little bit of Jack in Frank."

Sam (James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser) told Access that fans can expect a cliffhanger.

"It's gone so fast and we were just talking about this just now. That's sort of six months' work that we've done and it's just gone. The viewers have all seen it in a matter of [several] weeks, but it's amazing. We've got some great episodes coming up, and I think the cliffhanger is – it's just the beginning, really, like almost these first [several] episodes are just setting up the whole dynamic between the Black Jack/Claire/Jamie relationship, but also, all the other politics going on and the Highlanders and between them and the British army, time travel. So by the time we come back for the second half of the season, the show just gets sort of darker. The stakes just are raised again," he said. "Everyone's got a lot more to lose, so the story really starts to motor along, I think."

The Knick's Costume Designer and Best-Dressed Man Talk Turn of the Century Tailoring
By JAKE WOOLF
When you first got the role as Dr. Edwards, did you have an idea of the types of things doctors wore during this era? Did you do any research yourself to see what they wore?

I did do a lot of research. I pulled a lot of photos of what men wore during that time. To be honest it all seemed pretty uniform. A lot of dark suits, dark colors—so I think what we wanted to do with this character was...well he's obviously very different than the other characters. He's been living in Paris, so we felt like his sense of style would have had a little more flair to it. When I met with Ellen, she pulled a bunch of fabrics and she asked me what I thought about different things, like, would the character wear a turn down collar? We talked about lapels. We talked about vests. And we had a long discussion about what the first look should be. How do we introduce this character? The level of detail was something I had never experienced before. We ended up choosing this navy suit with very subtle golden stripes. And in a subtle way it separates him from everyone else on the show.

How did the clothes you wear on the show inform how you play this character?

I think literally the act of putting those clothes on, you know, it takes time. You put on the shirt, and then the paper collar attaches in two places. I spent a lot of time getting dressed, and I made everything very precise. So I do think taking the extra time to make sure everything was perfect did inform how I played the character. And putting on the vest, and the suit, the hat, the topcoat, the shoes, all of it changes one's physicality, the way one moves, sits.

Does that give you a new appreciation for getting dressed? Your character basically puts on all these fancy clothes to go work in a hospital and ruin them every day.

I do think there's something beautiful about a man taking his time to get dressed to make sure he looks his best. I think nowadays, people just throw on whatever when they're in a hurry. It definitely has changed my own personal style. Since doing the show, I take more time to get dressed and think about what I'm wearing.

Do you think Algernon has a little more to prove when he's getting dressed? Does he have to go the extra mile with his style because of everything he's fighting against as the only African American in the hospital?

My sense of it is that when he was abroad, he developed his own style. I don't think he was out to prove anything then. In the second episode, he's wearing his nice shoes and nice suit and he comes back to the house where he's staying, and one of the other black tenants starts picking on him about these fancy shoes he's wearing. I think it's then that he starts to realize that the way he dresses separates him from the black community. I think part of what scares people at the hospital is that he presents himself in a way that is so different from any black person they've experienced at that time. But rather than let that change him, he takes it further and sticks to his guns sartorially and psychologically. But I will say that the way the writers laid it out with the black tenant picking on him was really beautiful. I just think it's a really smart way to deal with the racial undertones. He doesn't fit in anywhere. He presents himself as the picture of success and integrity, and yet he isn't respected anywhere. It isn't until he goes home to his parents that he finally takes everything off and is comfortable. It's like he's taking off a costume at the end of a play.

Would you say that putting on these clothes helps him put on a show every day?

A little. I don't think he intends to put on a performance, but the clothes he wears kind of become a costume because of the way people treat him. It's in a way armor.

Going back to the fancy shoes, what are the fanciest shoes in your personal wardrobe?

I do have a pair of Loro Piana suede boots that I got years ago. I don't wear them that often, because they were not inexpensive. I wear them on special occasions.

You mentioned this before, but how has getting to wear suits made by Martin Greenfield on the show and some of the other things changed what you gravitate to in your personal life?

I tend to be very classic. I'm not one to follow fashion or trends. But I really love beautiful suits. I think I'm more careful now about the fabrics I choose when I'm buying a suit. I feel like I understand more now about how suits are made and what makes a quality suit. Classic and clean, man.

After the film version topped the box office last weekend, The Maze Runner, James Dashner's young-adult post-apocalyptic tale, moves up USA TODAY's best-selling books list and lands its highest ranking at No. 3. The film's success and plans for a sequel bode well for the young-adult trilogy with The Maze Runner Series at No. 60 and the remaining books, The Scorch Trials at No. 12, The Death Cure at No. 35 and its prequel The Kill Order at No. 93. The books follow a group of teen boys who wake up with no memory of their lives in a maze.

Also new on the list:

From here to 'Eternity': Ken Follett's Edge of Eternity lands at No. 1, the author's highest debut on the list. It's the third and final book in his best-selling Century Trilogy, which follows five international families through the great events of the 20th century. Eternity focuses on the third generation dealing with the Cold War, and begins during the 1960s. The first book in the series, Fall of Giants, hit No. 2 in 2010 while the sequel, Winter of the World, debuted at No. 5 in 2012.

Ride the 'Infinite Sea': YA dystopia continues to dominate the list. The Infinite Sea, the second book in Rick Yancey's post-apocalyptic trilogy, debuts at No. 27. The first book in the series, The Fifth Wave, landed at No. 42 last year. The sequel follows the continuing adventures of heroine Cassie Sullivan surviving in an alien-invaded Earth. USA TODAY's Brian Truitt gave the book four out of four stars, saying it "impressively improves on the excellent beginning of the trilogy" and it will definitely make fans "ravenous for the final chapter." Fans may also be ravenous for the upcoming movie adaptation starring Chloe Grace Moretz as Cassie.

Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent May Play Role in ‘Kingdom Hearts III’

$

0
maleficent photo: Maleficent Maleficent.png

Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of the infamous Disney villain, Maleficent, proved to be a world-wide success and it is rumored that her version of the character may play a significant role in the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts III. The original Disney animated character of Maleficent has played a primary villain throughout the Kingdom Hearts saga and may be featured in a different light in the latest installment.

Jolie’s involvement within the video game world has been nearly nonexistent before stepping into the shoes of the horned villainess. The toy/video game hybrid title, Disney Infinity, will introduce Jolie’s Maleficent into their world this November by adding her as a playable character in the game’s 2.0 edition. It is still unconfirmed if Jolie will voice the character in Infinity, but it has been confirmed that the actress had a great amount of input on the design of the character and the toy figure that is required to play as Maleficent in the game.

As for what part Jolie will play in Kingdom Hearts, the answer is still very foggy. With the release of the new Maleficent film, fans of the KH saga will be very anxious to see how and if the developers at Square Enix incorporate aspects from the film into the game. At a recent convention, when a creative developer was questioned as to if the Jolie version of Maleficent will take part in KH3 he responded by stating that he could not say anything on the matter other than followers of the game will be in for a great surprise.

Certain fans have taken that as confirmation that Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent may play a role in Kingdom Hearts III. The fact would make sense to an extent being that Maleficent is the primary villain from the Disney realm that antagonizes the heroes of Kingdom Hearts. She is seen in the original game as the leader of all the Disney villains, but gradually transfers to an aid for the antagonists that are greater than her on the hierarchy of Kingdom Hearts baddies. The tricky issue would be adjusting the appearance to reflect both the original animated character and Jolie’s version.

In the latest chronological installment of the KH saga, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, the phenomena of time travel was introduced by the series’ leading villain, Master Xehanort. Xehanort was able to transport various versions of himself ranging from young to old and bring them together in one place at the same time. It is possible that a similar strategy could be used to transport Jolie’s Maleficent into the Kingdom Hearts realm, revealing who the sorceress was before she fell into darkness. This act would also be practical for creators to include a segment involving the winged version of Maleficent.

As rumors about Kingdom Hearts III and whether or not Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent may play a role in it continue to disperse, fans of the saga will have plenty of time to converse over the fact as KH3 is reportedly not scheduled for release until late 2016. All previous Kingdom Hearts titles are available for purchase and the latest installment, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix will be released December 2, 2014.

The Do's and Don't of Duggar sex!

Let's start with some general things: as a Duggar, you cannot go to the beach, because "it's just too hard for the guys to try and keep their eyes averted."Guys are just too pervy to handle public swimming, guys. Also, you can't celebrate Halloween because all the spooky things that represent it are "part of a demonic realm God wants us to stay away from." You can't dance, because dancing is too "sensual," and obviously you can't drink because it's "disgusting!"

But you can have as much chest-to-chest action as you want when you're married, or at least you can if you're the male half of the marriage. According to Michelle, "anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love. You always need to be available when he calls." Hear that, ladies? Forget about your body being your own, and don't even think of having a headache or being tired or any of that rude nonsense. If your fella wants it, you better be prepared to give it up. You know, like a good wife.

Much more @ the source.
