AMC Makes One Of The Most Baffling Programming Decisions Since Greenlighting Low Winter Sun

0
0

Last year, after AMC’s much hyped Low Winter Sun bit the ratings dust in dramatic fashion, the network was smart enough to let that series go. It was a lost cause. Earlier this year, however, they renewed TURИ and renamed it TURN: Washington’s Spies, despite mediocre ratings and mixed reviews, in part because that drama gained steam near the end of the first season, ending with around 1.6 million viewers (a not bad number). But now they’ve done the unthinkable: They’ve renewed Halt and Catch Fire.

WHAT? WHY?

Well, here’s a couple of reasons.

First of all, it wasn’t because of ratings. The series ended with the lowest ratings in AMC’s original dramatic programming history. Worse even than Low Winter Sun, and there was zero momentum going into the finale, which was seen by a measly 550,000 people. It also wasn’t because of positive reviews because the series was mostly dismissed by critics from the beginning, and the few of us that stuck with it, were very harsh (while a couple of contrarians defended it for suspect reasons). In fact, Lee Pace’s character, Joe, was singled out as one of the worst kinds of characters on TV.

But here’s why AMC probably decided to keep the series anyway: Lee Pace and Scoot McNairy. Lee Pace is still a very popular actor (at least with the AMC demographic), and his turn in Guardians of the Galaxy is only going to make him more popular. Plus, the other male lead, Scott McNairy, will be in Batman vs. Superman, so he’s likely to be more high profile an actor going ahead, as well. Kerry Bishe and Toby Huss are legitimately good, talented actors, who were simply saddled with bad writing and some seriously terrible storylines in the first season. (Mackenzie Davis, god bless her, is just not very good).

More importantly, however, is the fact that AMC needs original programming right now. They’re losing Mad Men next year. They lost Breaking Bad. Low Winter Sun didn’t work out. And while they have ordered six pilots for next year (plus Better Call Saul, and including Seth Rogen’s Preacher adaptation), there are still huge gaps in their schedule. For instance, right now, the network is not running any original dramas except for Saturday night’s Hell on Wheels and won’t until The Walking Dead returns. And then there’s nothing else until Better Call Saul is paired with The Walking Dead in the winter. At this point, AMC is looking at a Billy Corgan wrestling reality show, and an All-Star Celebrity Bowling show. That’s not the AMC we love.

Basically, the network needs more filler, and Halt and Catch Fire is a reasonably priced filler series that will bridge the gap for the network between their more high-profile series. Unfortunately, it’s also a terrible series, and unless the network can reboot it (with new writers), it’s not likely to get much better, and I don’t know many people willing to give it another shot.

Chinese Theatres Test System of Onscreen Text Messages During Movies

0
0

Theatres in major Chinese cities have starting experimenting with “bullet screens” on which audiences can send text messages commenting on the film, which are then projected directly onto the screen.

If you’re sensitive to people using their cellphones during a movie, then going to the movie theatre in China would be far from relaxing experience. Rows of underlit faces and chiming ringtones punctuate the show, despite requests asking patrons to turn their phones before the movie begins.

This experience is set to become institutionalized during some movies for younger viewers who can’t spend five minutes away from their tablet or phone, according to a report in the China Youth Daily.

The inspiration behind the idea appears to be that it mimicks that of watching a movie on mobile media, which is how most Chinese people watch films, with people sending messages about what they like or dislike about the movie.

In a censored environment like China, precautions are taken to remove sensitive or forbidden words.

There are several Chinese movie websites, based on a Japanese idea of bullet screens, where viewers can spend their whole time making remarks on the film via SMS.

The experiment involves a number of theatres in China, including in Beijing and Shanghai, but also in smaller cities such as Hangzhou.

Earlier this month, the Luxin cinema in Shandong province in northeast China tried the system with a screening of the domestic 3D animated movie The Legend of Qin, a TV adaptation that has taken $9.25 million in box office in China so far.

The manager, surnamed Zhang, said the theater was 90 percent occupied and that “bullet information” was sent by SMS at 0.1 yuan, around 10 cents, per message.

“People like it right now, as it’s a new thing,” he said. “In the long term, it might affect people’s concentration. We are trying to continue with some bullet screen activities and play some films that young people like. Time will tell.”

Shen Leping, director of The Legend of Qin, is very enthusiastic about it, ran a report on the Nanfang website.
“We are exploring how the response from the audience can affect the movie itself… We are, in fact, putting the director and viewer on equal terms, and I think many of the opinions of the viewers are very helpful for film makers,” he said.

Fellow film director He Ping, formerly head of the China Film Directors Guild, said that no way could what was being screened be changed by the audiences.

“A film with bullet screen must be authorized by the writer when they sign a contract with the producer,” said He.

On the social media sites, the reaction was mixed.

“I hope bullet screens don’t become big in Chinese cinemas to help save poor Chinese films,” Hesheng commented on Sina Weibo, while Riya Sang wrote: “I don’t like bullet screens. The point of watching a film in the theater is to put away whatever is in your hand and focus on the film. Sometimes, it blocks the screen.”

Jinxi Hexi WY also wasn’t a fan. “When the audience complains during the screening, it interrupts our independent thinking and affects our concentration on the film. I don’t like it.”

But others enjoyed the interactivity.

“This is a real way of watching a film. For us, it is exciting and fun,” wrote Xu Huilin. “It is a reform in terms of the commercial model. It is just like when popcorn got into cinema for the first time, a lot of people protested that it would affect the film viewing experience.”

You want Britney's body ONTD? You betta werk + Your Daily Vegas post

tumblr_nafa32bfby1rlb6iho4_500

There's no denying that Britney Spears is looking phenomenally fit these days (case in point: those lingerie ads !), and now her trainer, Tony Martinez , is giving E! News the exclusive scoop on Brit's exercise regime.

The answer? Summer beach workouts. "I wanted her to have something at the beach," said Tony. "It's so calming and peaceful. You can see the dolphins out there, and I try to make the exercises facing the ocean."

Tony and Britney workout together two times a week and each session is about 30 to 40 minutes. "I don't want it to get boring, so I change it up a lot," he said. "But it's always at the beach and it's always interval training."

So what, exactly, does a summer beach workout entail? Since Britney's day is so busy, Tony tries to maximizes her time by doing interval exercises that use her whole body. He packs two exercises within each one and always adds an abdominal component.

After each exercise Tony and Britney will play a game of five-point volleyball. And what happens if the pop star loses? "She has to run to the ocean, and I want to see her touch the water and come back," said Tony.

The sand plays a big role, too—and Brit does the workout barefoot. "It's a full-body workout in the sand," said Tony. "We do crab walks and bear crawls in the sand."

As for which areas Tony's routine for Britney focuses on the most? Abs and legs. "Her abs and legs look great because of all that work in the sand, and it's easier on the joints," he explained.

A typical exercise Britney and Tony do are "cement mountain climbers." In this exercise, "Britney's forearms are against or lying on a cement wall and she is kneeling over with her feet on the Tony Martinez Core Discs, and she brings the discs toward the cement wall or toward me," said Tony. "She will do 25 of those."

A typical resistance exercise Tony does with Britney is when Britney uses a Tony Martinez Band wrapped around a volleyball pole and does a chest press with a forward lunge on the core discs.

Another exercise? "She pulls the band back and does a reserve lunge with one leg and then again on the other side," he said. "She does 20 of those."

She'll also do a court exercise where she holds a volleyball and "single hops like a bunny" along the length of the net. She'll touch the top of the net with the ball and then continues to hop and touch, going across one side and then does it again along the opposite side of the net.

Another court exercise they do is when Tony will stand in the center of the court and throw the volleyball as high in the air as he can, and Britney will hit the ball back to him. Britney travels in a 360-degree circle around him as they continue to volley back and forth.

Tony explained his workouts require a lot of stamina and there isn't any downtime. "During the interval workout there is about 10 to 15 seconds between them. She gets very little rest," said Tony.

And sometimes they'll throw in something new they've never done before. "One time, we ran from pier to pier, which is four miles," said Tony. "When we were done Britney said, 'I would definitely do that again!' She is tough, and she wasn't even out of breath."

But even though Tony's workouts are rigorous, he explained that there's a big emphasis on fun. "I think that's the whole point about being by the beach," he said. "It's about feeling good and having fun."

So how does Brit hold up? "She is tough. Her stamina is really great now," Tony gushed. "She doesn't get tired. I'm the one huffing and puffing!"

And even though Britney isn't able to train with Tony every day of the week, she likes to use the Tony Martinez Travel Fit Bag when she's working out alone, which includes his resistance bands and core discs.

For more from Tony Martinez, check out his website and follow him on Instagram and Twitter @trainertony.

Memo to the world: Rita Ora is done talking about ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris. While the singer openly dished to Ryan Seacrest about Harris shutting down her Teen Choice Awards performance last week (and Harris subsequently responded), Ora now has nothing else to say.

During a red carpet interview yesterday in New York to promote her new album and fragrance, an interviewer began a question, "There’s been a lot of rumors about Calvin Harris not releasing some of your stuff..."

Ora shut it down.

"Thank you. Bye bye," she replied, walking away.

Watch Ora let the interviewer down below:

Kid Cudi To Launch Sneaker Collection

Kid Cudi just walked away with his first sneaker line. The rapper has bypassed the big sportwear firms to ink a partnership with Italian shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti.

The first glimpse at his shoe range is this red Nappa leather high-top which has a touch of sci-fi about it. Imagine footwear for a pick-up basketball match on another planet. According to Nice Kicks, the Kid Cudi x Giuseppe Zanotti High-Top will launch as a part of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

The Brooklyn-based hip hopper is known for doing things a little different. His most recent, fourth studio album, Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon, dropped earlier this year with little warning. His soon-to-launch high-tops slot in neatly with its spaced-out theme. Take a look at Cudi’s new shoe below.

Cudi's third album Indicud arrived at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 following its release in 2013.

Simple Bae Quietly Acquires Malibu Compound

Last year his older brother, action flick actor Chris Hemsworth, laid out $4.8 million for fellow Australian Paul Hogan’s freshly rehabbed estate in Malibu’s Point Dume area. Now — so swears real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak on her back stock of Lee Press On Nails — young Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth recently and surreptitiously shelled out a very grown up $6,814,000 for singer/songwriter Matthew Wilder’s multi-acre Malibu compound.

Your Mama dissed and discussed the property at some length nearly a year ago when Mister Wilder first listed the almost 7.5 acre spread with an asking price of $6.85 million so we’ll suffice to stick to just a few brief details. A long, gated drive crosses a creek and gently winds its way deep in to the compound to the front of 1950s era ranch-style residence worked over in a modern-organic manner with polished concrete and reclaimed wood floors, entire walls of multi-paned windows and doors and new-fangled high-tech systems.

The three bedroom and three bathroom residence is of undetermined size — the L.A. County Tax Man pegs it at 1,980 but that seems a bit on the wee side to Your Mama — and includes a over-sized entrance gallery combination living/dining room with brick fireplace, an adjoining sitting room, a step down den with catty-corner fireplace, and an eat-in kitchen with small lounge and commercial grade appliances as well as a walk-in fridge with frosted glass doors.

Phil Hartman to Receive Star on Walk of Fame--Let's Celebrate with Some of His Best Moments

0

Phil Hartman was a perfect treasure and we were lucky to have him. Of course, tragically, his life was cut short in a horrific way when he was murdered by his wife who then killed herself, leaving their two children. Finally, on Aug. 26, Hartman will receive a much-deserved star on the Walk of Fame.

You know what else is deserved? A time of celebratory remembrance. Except the internet is garbage and there just isn't enough Hartman available. But we will make do. And then you will go out and buy the first four seasons of Newsradio and thank me later.

For now, this. Thanks for everything, Phil. We still miss you. And that’s the real deal.

Finally, from my favorite episode of any television show ever:

Good cane weather.

Rest at source.

He was one of the best actors of SNL and NewsRadio. He deserved the star while he was alive.

Amazing Race Canada recap: To France…por favor!

0
0

Hands up if you thought The Amazing Race Canada’s foray into France this week was going to feature escargot, translation trip-ups, and laps at Le Mans.

Pas du tout.

Instead, the teams raced to Normandy, where the climax of the show was an emotional visit to the Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, the final resting place of more than 2,000 Canadian soldiers.

The experience moved three competitors to tears.

“We just completely forgot about the race at that moment,” Jinder said.

It’s a surprising take on France – closer to a Heritage Minute than a competitive reality show. But it’s consistent with something The Amazing Race has been doing all along: positioning itself as a Canadian institution. You see that in the casting of Canadian icons like Rex Harrington and in the challenges, like scoring goals at the Winnipeg Jets’ stadium and searching for maple syrup in Hong Kong.

This isn’t a show about Canadians in a race. It’s a show about Canada. It strives to show what (we believe) makes our country special, even in its international segments.

But let’s get back to Tuesday night. The key to winning in France turned out to be the key to winning anywhere: you need to be Olympic athletes named Natalie and Meaghan.

The last standing all-female team successfully distilled apple brandy to exactly 40-per-cent alcohol, pieced together a historic event at a museum, and land-sailed on the beach, reaching the pit stop ahead of their fellow frontrunners, twins Pierre and Michel. (Which one is which? Two teams confessed this week to not knowing, and neither do I.)

When they first learned they were France-bound, Mickey and Pete worried (well, as much as hippie bros can worry) that they don’t speak any French. Surprisingly, the ability to speak the language played no role in the results — but being able to French braid did. Mickey and Pete finished third, helped along by Mickey’s surprise adeptness at French braiding a horse’s mane.

To really hammer home how little language mattered: Sukhi and Jinder took fourth place, even though Jinder thought that the translation for “please” in French was “por favor.” Francophones Alain and Audrey trailed them in fifth place.

The roads were the biggest stumbling block in France.

“When the arrow points that way, does it mean that way?” asked Ryan, pointing in another direction.

Ryan and his co-worker Rob got lost on this leg. A lot. At one point, they took two hours to travel a five-minute distance. You know you’re doing badly when Sukhi and Jinder are less turned around than you.

But they took it in stride.

Ryan joked,“If Ryan and Rob had a French travel show it would be called Getting Lost and Hating Yourself.”

“Or, taking the Long Way in France with Ryan and Rob,” Rob added
.

But it was their lucky day: when the lost boys finally reached the pit stop on Juno Beach, Jon Montgomery told them Normandy was a non-elimination round.

This seemed only fair — after all, Ryan had helped Pete complete the challenge at the distillery, helping to pull him and Mickey out of last place.

All six teams are still in this, and headed to Paris next week.

The most important questions going forward is: Where’s the U-Turn? Last season, this game-changing element wreaked havoc in the fifth leg of the race. We haven’t seen it yet this summer, even as teams head into their eighth leg.

But one thing we can pretty sure of: with two non-elimination rounds complete, every episode going forward will be sending one team home.

(Olympians first, no elimination woo!)

This show remains hilarious and touching by turns.

Fans of cute pink fluffball Kirby should take note, then, as Sword Kirby is the latest offering on the way in Q1 2015.

Standing at 16 inches tall, this figurine will come in two variations — the Exclusive model costs $239.99 and will only have 850 pieces; this one benefits from an LED for extra whizz-bang in Kirby's sword power swish. The standard edition is $219.99 and comes without the LED, and there'll be 2500 pieces made.

Hyrule Warriors was released in Japan last week, and it appears that the unprecedented level of promotion and advertising the game received has paid off. The crossover game holds second place in Japan's charts this week with just shy of 70,000 copies sold. This is certainly a promising figure, and we can only hope for a similarly positive sales report when the game hits Western shops.

Yokai Watch 2 is still in the lead spot, dwarfing all of the competition with nearly 120,000 copies sold this week. Mario Kart 8 has increased its sales by roughly 8,000 compared to last week, and unexpectedly Animal Crossing: New Leaf has seen a return to the charts.

Nintendo's two consoles have managed to muscle their way up to take the top five positions for software this week – a terrifically encouraging statistic. You can see all the sales below with lifetime sales in brackets.

Hardware sales show an increase for all systems bar the PlayStation 3. The Wii U shows a massive 35% increase in units sold with the 3DS LL not far behind with a 30% rise. Hyrule Warriors and Yokai Watch 2 are undoubtedly the reason behind these encouraging numbers, and with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS not far away, you could safely expect similar if not larger increases in the sales of these two consoles.

Check out the full hardware sales below for yourself – last week's sales are in brackets.

Smashboards has always been a hive of activity for Super Smash Bros. fans, but now several leaks have come forth with supposed new information about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. While the leaked screenshots only showcase the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, the information that was leaked applies to both. Here’s the text of the leak:

So I got more info…
Unless my friend is pulling my leg, there’s some pretty crazy crap left to be revealed.

-Snake, Lucas, Ice Climbers (Why), and Wolf are cut
-Doctor Mario is back as a clone
-Dark Pit is a newcomer as a clone
-Each character gets 8 alternate costumes, whether they be pallet swaps or new costumes.
-Alph appears as 4 of Olimar’s costumes, while the other 4 are Olimar’s.
-Shulk will be playable with Gaur Plains as his stage, his neutral B changes his Monado mode which essentially makes him dish more damage and take more, or do less damage, and take less.
-Bowser Jr appears as a new comer and allegedly fights from a mario kart… has no alt colors, but instead has the 7 koopalings as alts.
-Duck Hunt is in… from what I’ve been told it’s the duck hunt dog fighting with ducks on his back who assist for certain attacks…

*Edit more info
-Shulk has like 5 different mode swaps
-Bowser Jr rides in a koopa kart that attacks with cannon balls and boxing gloves and stuff that eject from the clowns mouth.

note* The kart sounds more like the koopa clown car to me as I read it.

Now I’m not even sure from this stuff so take it with a grain of salt, but my friend recently quit as a tester due to family reasons, so if he decided he no longer cares what leaks, I could see why he’d tell me.
He was also unclear to me as to if that is the rest of the roster so also be wary.

Of course this is a huge case of hearsay since it’s a “my friend said this”, but a few screenshots from three different leakers were provided as well.

There are some head scratchers here that lead us to wonder if any of this is true, mainly because of the positioning of some of the characters. Shulk looks like he has the same positioning as Little Mac and has been photoshopped to look like Shulk. Additionally, Yoshi looks a bit weird in his positioning.

In the first screenshot you’ll see.. the Duck Hunt Dog? It’s long been a running joke that the dog from Duck Hunt would be included in a Super Smash Bros. game, which seems sort of fishy. Either way, it’s interesting to see so many rumors surrounding an upcoming game, especially when some parts of the supposed leaks have turned out to be true. Meta Knight is back!

James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan recently appeared on American TV show The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. It wouldn’t be complete without Fallon inviting Pierce Brosnan to play the iconic Nintendo 64 shooter, GoldenEye 007. Each system is guaranteed to work and includes a controller and all necessary cables required to operate the system; the original box and instruction manual is not included. The digital instruction manual can be downloaded from Nintendo’s official website in PDF form, however.

The GameCube is the successor to the Nintendo 64 and was first released in Japan on September 14, 2001. It was later released in North America on November 18, 2001, and in Europe and Australia on May 3 and May 17, 2002, respectively.

Metroid’s fearless female hero and intergalactic alien assassin, Samus Aran, will sport stylish jet boots in the upcoming pair of Super Smash Bros. titles for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. But she’ll also show off some skin by donning flashy red and blue Zero Suit outfits, as seen during the ending sequence in 2004 Game Boy Advance title Metroid: Zero Mission.

Masahiro Sakurai, the game series’ director, wouldn’t have been able to include the new Zero Suit outfits for the next games if it weren’t for the hard work and determination Samus’s human female character designer, however. Additionally, each outfit will be available for use in both versions of Super Smash Bros.

Here’s what Mr. Sakurai has shared with fans in his most recent Miiverse post.

Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That’s what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time. From the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission, here’s Samus in shorts!

Here’s a look at the 3DS version. You can use the same outfit variations in both the 3DS and Wii U versions.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will be released in Japan on September 13 and in North America and Europe on October 3. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is slated to debut this holiday season.

Michael B. Jordan Is Considering Online Dating

"I judged you for a minute when you walked in."

I was joining Michael B. Jordan on a sunset yacht cruise around Manhattan — an event to celebrate his new partnership with AXE. It also happens to be the perfect backdrop for romance. So, when the actor and general saucepot drops a line like that in an interview, you kind of hope he'll follow it up with a compliment. You know, something about your hair looking nice, or anything else that implies his judgement is that you, too, are a saucepot.

This was not the case, however. Jordan was referring to which fandom I fall under: "A lot of people are either Parenthood or Friday Night Lights fans," he said. "I pegged you as a Vince fan." Guilty. Also, impressive.

Yet, for all his premonitory skills, Jordan couldn't predict the way he'd be so warmly received by the comic book community for his upcoming role as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four. Not only have fans given him the big thumbs-up, but he's also received the nod from Chris Evans."He said, 'You know what? I trust you,'" noting the former Johnny Storm had little advice to offer Jordan for the iconic role.

Perhaps that's because Jordan isn't so different from the characters he plays. When I asked him which role he thinks most accurately aligns with his personality, he again addressed my FNL obsession."Not Vince. Probably Johnny. I’ll say that. I think I have a little bit of myself in all of my characters. That’s why my most successful roles are the ones where I add a little bit of myself to them," he explained.

It's nearly impossible to speak to Jordan and not address how beautiful — and single — he is. I asked him if he, like many twenty-somethings, would take to online dating. "I would consider it," he said. "I always thought I’d meet my girlfriend through mutual friends." It wasn't lost on me that Jordan and I were technically meeting through mutual acquaintances. But, in the meantime, keep your eye out for a chance to swipe right on one of the most eligible men in Hollywood.

Beyonce and Jay Z are NOT breaking up ... in fact, their relationship is "perfect' ... so says a woman who would definitely know -- Beyonce's mom.

Tina Knowles was leaving lunch with Kelly Rowland at Via Alloro in Bev Hills -- and in a super-rare moment, actually opened up about rumors that B and J's marriage is on the rocks.

Mama Knowles even had some choice words for people like Akon -- who recently told us the couple's relationship "feels corporate."

And there seems to be evidence to back up Tina's statement -- Bey and Jay have been spotted out together a lot recently ... looking happy at the go-kart track, a restaurant opening, and they even embraced on stage.

Passers-by in Regent’s Park were treated to an VIP ‘festival’ scene this morning as we unveiled the staggeringly realistic new wax figure of international superstar Beyoncé to a small gathering of fans. The figure will make a guest appearance here in London this summer before taking up residence in Madame Tussauds San Francisco later this year.

Fans will have the chance to meet the new Beyoncé figure and pose for ‘selfies’ from today until the Autumn, when she will move to Madame Tussauds San Francisco. Here in London, Beyoncé will join a host of female superstars in the Baker Street attraction’s Music area, including Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Kylie.

Spider-Woman comic criticized for face down/ass up pose

'Spider-Woman #1' has a special variant cover that is causing some controversy for some reason

Good news: Marvel has a new comic book staring a female character! Better news: That female character is Spider-Woman, aka Jessica Drew, a severely underrated B-lister who hasn’t had a solo non-limited series since the late ’70s. Best news: Spider-Woman will team up Jessica with Silk, another female superhero, therefore all-but-assuring that Spider-Woman will be passing the Bechdel Test all over the place.

Woohoo, Marvel! Woohoo, strong female character! Woohoo, illustrations of those strong female characters posing with strength and femininity! Why, just look at this variant cover of Spider-Woman #1 by Milo Manara:

Yep, there’s ol’ Spider-Woman, just hangin’ out on the side of a building, as one does.

Thrusting her posterior high in the air, as one does.

And her legs spread all akimbo, as legs so often are.

And also her costume appears to be painted or possibly even just tattooed on.

And I guess she’s in a crawling position, even though she’s clearly perched on a ledge, so she doesn’t really need to do the whole “wall-crawling” thing.

And I guess that, like, theoretically, if you were in one of those buildings behind her, and you happened to cast a glance across the street, you might let out a gasp and exclaim, “Great Scott! For a second there, I thought I saw an adolescent fantasy of subservient womanhood crawling across that building over there! I sure am glad that was just a trick of the light, because it would be really crazy if I had seen a nude red giant super-butt in a nominally family-friendly situation! Why, if I had seen something like that, I might start thinking to myself that this is exactly the kind of thing that happens in a male-dominated industry–the sort of thing that probably wouldn’t happen if there were, like, a couple women in the room to point out when something looks desperately wrong. Glad I didn’t see anything like that!”

Anyhow, some people are upset about this for some reason. For comparison’s sake, here’s the regular cover:

SAUCE

(Imagine the reaction if they ever saw fan service-heavy anime. Hell, even 'Space Battleship Yamato 2199' has more ass shots than a Jessica Alba movie and it's tame.)
