When Fandom Falls Apart: DashCon Edition

$

0
DashCon, which is a convention in Schaumburg, Illinois that "aims to be the largest gathering of Tumblr users to date" is taking place this weekend. It is a first year convention, so people expected things to be a bit rough. It is also, however, apparently turning into a "complete disaster".

The main complaint seems to be that the convention suddenly claimed on the first night (11 July 2014) that they needed to raise an additional $17,000 by 10 PM CST that night in order to continue on with the weekend, as the hotel was charging them last minute unexpected fees.

Many people suspected this to be a scam, for various reasons, including the fact that when others contacted the Renaissance Hotel, management claimed they were doing no such thing. The money was successfully raised, but there has been no confirmation that it went to the hotel, or anywhere except the organizer's pockets.

Other items of note include the main guests of honor, Welcome to Night Vale, cancelling their appearance because the organizers of the convention failed to pay them. Guests who bought reserved seating for this event were offered a free raffle ticket and "an extra hour in the ball pit".

In the end, though, DashCon is going to be most memorable for how quickly news of a fandom disaster can spread. Though DashCon expected 3,000-7,000 attendees, reports from on the ground estimate only about 500-1,000 people showed up.

Kween of Komedy Kim Kardashian™ - Nutty Pregnancy Advice Was 'Sarcastic,' She Says

Kan't anyone take a joke around here? A lot of people took Kim Kardashian’s recent remarks on pregnancy to be serious. Which, she says, they weren't.

"I guess you can’t be sarcastic when doing interviews!" the mother of 1-year-old North West wrote in a series of tweets Saturday. "I was asked about tips on pregnancy style… I jokingly said pregnant woman should hide/stay in if they looked like I did lol.”

Uh-uh honey, there was no "lol" when the Elle story was published last week. No "lol" when some folks interpreted her comments as demeaning to pregnant women.

"Kardashian's advice perhaps stems from her own negative experience with frequent excursions during her pregnancy," wrote Us Weekly, one of a number of outlets to pick up on the story Friday.

Observations like that may have been why the 33-year-old — who had no problem going out in public while she was expecting — felt the need to clarify on Twitter that she was just kidding when she said pregnant women should hide at home for a year and "wear a huge blanket."

Clearly serious advice, right?

"I really should start video taping the interviews I do & post on my website so u can see the laughs & how it's really said," Kardashian tweeted.

Mrs. Kanye West did the Elle interview in question with sisters Khloe and Kourtney, the last of whom is expecting her third child with longtime beau Scott Disick. All three were photographed last Monday at the event where the interview took place.

So much for a pregnant Kardashian hiding away at home.

Mrs. Kanye West and her sisters seemed to have fun during the chat, with Kim and Khloe agreeing that Kourtney has the best pregnancy style.

Kourtney said that for her, pregnancy style is all about comfort.

"[Y]ou’re always in long, flowy dresses when you’re pregnant," Khloe chimed in.

"I’m not really into maternity clothes," Kourtney explained. Pointing to her outfit, she said, "This is the Kardashian Kollection, and it’s just a size bigger than I would normally get."

She was not wearing a blanket.

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian: "We Wanted To Do A VH1 Reality Show To Take Our Lives Back!"

LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian have been in the public eye for pretty much their entire relationship thus far thanks to paparazzi and tabloids. So the two were not only well-trained for the ups and downs of documenting their daily lives, they actually wanted to do it.

"Everyone's used our lives as entertainment and so we wanted to actually kind of take our life back," Rimes told reporters Friday at VH1's Television Critics Association fall previews.

The end result is LeAnn & Eddie, a new reality series about the everyday lives of the Grammy-winning singer and the CSI: Miami alum. Premiering on Thursday, July 17 at 8/7c on VH1, the series promises to show a different, more honest, side of the couple compared to the duo splashed across tabloid covers and gossip websites.

"We definitely hit on the tabloid fodder because that's what surrounded our lives so much in the past five years," Rimes said. "I think we're really kidding ourselves with the illusion of a private life because it's very hard."

Rimes is referring to media scrutiny that followed the two since they began a romantic relationship in 2009 when they were both married to other people. Both divorced their partners and tied the knot in 2011. Cibrian admits the intense coverage of their relationship was a motivating factor in wanting to do the show, which they pitched to VH1.

"If [the tabloids] want to stop writing about us, then we won't have to set the record straight anymore," he said. "[It] gave us an opportunity to do something fun, work together and at the same time, what's really real about the show is our relationship. You'll see how we interact with one another."

From the executive producers of Duck Dynasty, LeAnn & Eddie will have a similarly light tone, according to its stars. "We've both gone through a lot of private things with the public eyes watching. ... Eddie and I really have coped with it all by laughing," Rimes said. "People think we take ourselves super seriously and we don't."

"Ultimately, this is a comedy. That's kind of how we go about our life as well; we laugh, and it really helps," Cibrian added. "It's a show not about real dysfunction or exploitation. It's a fun show to watch and you laugh and that's kind of the area we wanted to explore."

And those jokes also extend to others within the couple's orbit, such as Cibrian's ex-wife, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville, who has not shied away from talking about her ex-husband and his wife on the hit Bravo reality series. "We do discuss Eddie's ex-wife when it needed to be discussed," Rimes said. "Any situation, any tabloid fodder that might have come from her ... you can't really do a show without talking about that."

However, Cibrian stressed "we're not taking shots."

As with the Real Housewives, this show will not feature Cibrian's two sons with Glanville. "We keep them out of it as much as possible. My kids are not in my ex-wives' show and they're definitely not going to be in our show and that's that."

Aside from exercising creative control to keep his sons off the air — Rimes and Cibrian serve as executive producers on their show — the couple say that viewers will get an honest and relatively unfiltered representation of them on the show.

"We thought we were going to be more protective of the final cut but we kind of let the final product breathe on its own," Cibrian said. "There are some things that are kind of embarrassing that we left on the show because we thought it was funny. We really didn't censor ourselves that much."

LeAnn & Eddie premieres on Thursday, July 17 at 8/7c on VH1.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Working At A Lemonade Stand

In May, Sarah Michelle Gellar's CBS sitcom The Crazy Ones was cancelled, and now - according to a photo she posted on twitter - the TV star is so broke, she needs to work at a lemonade stand. Or, maybe it's just a cute picture she posted on Twitter.

Yeah, okay, seems like it's probably just a cute photo.

No prices are indicated, but given the exquisite workmanship on the stand itself and the fact that the lemonade is served in actual glasses means you're probably looking at $4-6 per cup. The cookies in that little basket are probably only a dollar each. Or two for a dollar if you also get a cup of lemonade, one would assume.

BsczlW7CQAAkl6V

Many of her fans and followers are asking where the stand is located, and also suggesting that she mix it with booze. However, as a word of caution for anyone else starting a lemonade stand, selling liquor without a license is not only a violation of the business and professions code section 25657-25667, but is also a criminal offense.

Have fun Sarah! And depending on where that stand is located, pay attention to your county construction ordinances and make sure that thing is up to code!

In defense of Madonna’s wild love life

Last month, while stepping out in New York to catch a Broadway play, Madonna showed off her latest, ahem, acquisition.

No, it wasn’t a newly discovered arm muscle from dancing 15 hours a day, the latest piece of Dior couture or a precious toddler orphan from Malawi.

Modal Trigger
Madonna with Timur Steffens in early June.Photo: Splash News/ Ron Asadorian
It was her 26-year-old boy toy, Timor Steffens.

The 55-year-old pop star has been reportedly romancing the youthful Dutch choreographer — who has worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Michael Jackson — since New Year’s Eve, when the pair met at designer Valentino’s Swiss château.

The revelation of this May-December relationship was about as shocking as Thursday coming after Wednesday.
Since her 2008 split from her fair-haired English director hubby, Guy Ritchie, her Madgesty has enjoyed the carnal company of swarthy, pillow-lipped young bucks with freakishly sculpted abs who could have been plucked from the same aesthetic conveyor belt.

First, there were reports she hooked up with A-Rod, who was a full-grown man of 32 — but still a good 17 years younger than Madonna. But in 2009 she really went for it: heavenly Brazilian model Jesus Luz was a babe of 22 when the then-51-year-old snared him. Then there was French dancer Brahim Zaibat, who was born in 1988, the year “Like a Prayer” hit No. 1. At the tender age of 25, he was replaced by Steffens.
God bless the ol’ gal — a lady’s gotta eat. Why shouldn’t she have the freshest ingredients?
Modal Trigger
After all, Leonardo DiCaprio and newly engaged Adam Levine regularly go to the Victoria’s Secret dealership and pick out the latest model — then follow that up with the next limited-edition version.

Before getting engaged to London barrister Amal Alamuddin, George Clooney practically made a cottage industry out of turning statuesque cocktail waitresses, C-list actresses and pro wrestlers into Cinderellas for a couple years before moving on.
Those horndogs end up praised as desirable bachelors, while the Material Girl gets snarky comments — and not just from men.

Sharon Osbourne called Madonna a “wet nurse” and said she was past her “sell-by date” while discussing the singer’s dalliance with Steffens on “The Talk.” And the comments section of any online story about Madonna’s dating life is like a middle-school slam book.
Maybe that’s not just because of her cougar status, but because she’s the only female celeb right now sowing her oats. The otherwise unconventional Lady Gaga is in a serious relationship. Katy Perry is a serial monogamist who sticks to guys who are her equals, career- and fame-wise. And with Taylor Swift, it always seems like the tragic elements outweigh the fun.

Madonna, like proto-cougar Cher before her, is all about fun.
And she’s stood up for herself, explaining, “I didn’t, like, write down on a piece of paper, ‘I’m going to have a relationship with a younger man.’ That’s just what happened . . . I just met someone that I cared for, and this happened to be his age.”
Why should she have to cruise ourtime.com for old farts?
So go on Madge, (and Cher), keep chasing the young blood. Maybe someday, you’ll be seen as a woman instead of a desperate cougar.

Vice: Beyonce and Jay Z's Tour Might Be the Most Boring Tour of the Summer

$

0

People react as if entrance to Beyoncé and Jay Z's On the Run tour comes by “luck.” “You’re so lucky” to be so close to our Lords and Saviors Beyoncé and Jay Z. Selfies and Snapchats are taken on the train on the way to MetLife Stadium. The audience cries out when her fragrance commercial plays on the big screens an hour before show time. It’s something to brag about on Facebook, to inspire jealousy on Instagram. I’m here; you’re not, have fun tapping my pictures.

While it feels special to gain entry, the show itself seems removed, like it’s happening somewhere else on a separate stage, produced by Hollywood men in front of Hollywood cameras. It’s almost as if the whole thing had been filmed and edited ahead of time.

The show is so excruciatingly perfect that it comes off…well, like, whatever. Beyoncé possesses a strength that is otherworldly, and Jay’s at least in orbit. There’s no room for error which can be boring. It’s like getting the exact birthday present you asked for, but still having to act surprised for three hours. Or getting caught with a carton of cigarettes, and being forced to smoke them all. The fog is perfect. The lights are perfect. Their marriage is perfect, TMZ video notwithstanding.

They play every song. He kisses her neck in “Drunk in Love,” she giggles just so. She recreates her videos, pulling out the dress from “Haunted,” the poles from “Naughty Girl,” and the not-just-a-butt from “Crazy in Love,” “Partition,” and “Upgrade U.” She’s trained her eyes not to blink, staring straight ahead as if the whole thing is a photo shoot. There are no breaks for her face, it’s always working. In the rarest moment–when she hits Bobby Shmurda’s Shmoney dance in “***Flawless,” when Jay shouts it out in “Fuckwitmeyouknowigotit”–is that scripted or is that a glitch in the system?

It’s amazing and it’s frustrating. They’re there but they’re not. So close yet so far. No one goes to concerts just to see what they’ve already seen and hear the songs they can hear on YouTube. They go to feel a connection and come home with something that’s their own. But this isn’t a normal concert; The connections felt at this concert might be with other fans in the stadium but it's not with Beyoncé and Jay Z. That’s why a group of twelve girls wearing matching Beygency shirts paraded around; same with the boys in gold masks and imitation freak-um dresses. They want to show their allegiance, and be acknowledged in some way for the effort. But that doesn't happen. $185 gets you into the same room as Bey and Jay, but it’s a big room and they’re still roped off. (Closer than most were Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Spike Lee, and members of the Giants and Yankees, who all joined together to take selfies and dance on the D’Usse-branded VIP riser.)

The most interesting moment happens near the end when a highlight reel of home movies rolls, finally showing bits and pieces of their private lives: Jay Z co-piloting a private jet, Beyoncé getting the IV tattoo on her finger, Blue growing up before our eyes, learning to walk, sashaying in front of the mirror. It shows that they’re–if not in the same universe–at least on the same planet. Their circle’s gotten so small, the walls so high, that it’s morsels like these that feed a village. They watch these clips from afar, with the rest of us, their hands around each others waists.

Are they acting? Is this love? At the beginning of the night, the screen lights up with the message, “This is not real life.” At the end, the word "not" has been taken out. Credits roll, thanking the pyro techs and back-up dancers. He says, "Please give it up for Mrs. Carter." She says the same of him. If it’s a performance, it’s incredible, and just the same if it isn’t.

Jenni Rivera Biopic News: The Family Want Eugenio Derbez To Direct Film About Her Death!

Rosie has confirmed her family are already working towards a Jenni movie.

For Rosie, she is already thinking ahead, according to TV y Novelas. "The writer is already working on the script," she said. "We are looking for a director, and I would like for it to be Eugenio Derbez because he is Mexican and I saw the great work he has done with his movies."

The family has yet to approach Derbez, but Rosie plans to in the future. She'd like to sit with him and find out what he thinks.

"Whatever God wants will happen, but it would be beautiful, it seems to me," she said. Rosie added movie is being handled with care. Her family are trying to come up with a project of high quality because that's what Jenni deserves.

The Riveras have more plans to maintain Jenni's legacy. For example, the family plans to take her clothing line to Mexico, launch an album in English, have a book of photographs, a line of jewelry and a fragrance for men.

Audio experts have already shut down the validity of the video that seemingly warns Jenni that she will be killed at her last concert, Rosie is not too convinced. She said she asked her brother, Juan, who is a producer, and he said that he thought the voice was real, too.

But she doesn't know if the voice is actually warning Jenni or saying something else.
She has been pressing for more investigating about Jenni's death.

"Perhaps it's that I want to think it was just an accident, but the investigation will tell us," she said.

"Everything comes to light eventually. I don't believe the video was edited, but I also don't think that it was a death threat directed to her nor that the phrase is related to the unfortunate accident where she lost her life."

Feast your eyes on the very first campaign images from "new Coach." Under the creative direction of recent hire Stuart Vevers, the brand has pulled out all the fashion stops, hiring a Vogue-editorial worthy staff including Steven Meisel behind the lens, Pat McGrath on makeup and Guido Palau on hair.

Meisel's model portraits are layered over images from Joel Sternfeld's 2000-2001 High Line series "Landscape with Path" because 1.) Art, and 2.) his snaps were "considered important catalysts in conveying the potential for the space as a public space, which helped convert many people into supporters of the movement to save it from demolition." Is that a big, fat rebranding metaphor?

Vevers says the campaign reflects, "the new spirit of the Coach girl—effortless, youthful, personal, authentic and innately cool." Have a look for yourself at the teaser after the jump, and don't be surprised to see a big, big push in the September glossies.

Is Brooks Wheelan Just The First To Go Among The New Cast Members At 'Saturday Night Live'?

$
0
0

Someone had to go. After a rebuilding season that wasn’t nearly as awful as some critics made it out to be, first-year cast member Brooks Wheelan was shown the door Monday, announcing on Twitter he would not be returning for the 40th season in September.

It’s rare for “SNL” to not trim a cast member or two before its fall premiere, so the termination was no big surprise. All the more so coming off a transition year in which eight of the 17 cast members were rookies
, the equivalent of throwing everything against the wall just to see what sticks. It was inevitable someone would fall off the wall.

But there’s a few questions to consider in the wake of his ouster: Was Wheelan deserving of his pink slip, and even if he was, were there others even more deserving of the boot? Furthermore, will Wheelan be the only one to canned in the offseason, and if not, who else is going to follow in his footsteps?

If you watched “SNL” in its entirety this past season, Wheelan’s exit shouldn’t come as a surprise. He was barely used, and didn’t seem to connect in any one of the sketches in which he did appear. There was one sketch early in the season that practically served as the writing on the wall in which Wheelan played himself as a gameshow contestant, and a joke pointedly played on the fact that no one watching had any idea who he was.

Of course, it’s the “SNL” freshmen who are going to be most susceptible to cuts. But it’s a credit to “SNL” that most of the newbies seemed untouchable: Colin Jost is the head writer in addition to being the new face of “Weekend Update,” so that was never going to happen. Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney got plenty of post-12:30 p.m. sketches to themselves, so they’re doing something right. Sasheer Zamata also acquitted herself nicely in a midseason entry that kicked up some attention as the series’ first female African-American cast member in ages. I’m willing to bet Noel Wells sticks around though she didn’t do anything particularly memorable, just solid impression work.

From there, the odds get a little longer. Were Mike O’Brien not already a writer on “SNL,” his on-air tenure would seem ill-fated considering how inconsistently he was used, though he got some featured sketches late in the run that may indicate he’ll be back. If there is any one person who seems most likely to join Wheelan on the unemployment line, it’s John Milhiser, who was the least-used cast member last season, according to this handy chart from comedy-news website Splitsider. If another head is going to roll, it would have to be his.

Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if Wheelan was the only cut and “SNL” didn’t even bother to replace him. That would actually be a nice show of confidence in a cast that may be short on stars for now, though Kate McKinnon got a shot in the arm last week with an Emmy nomination.

Don’t forget, it’s likely veteran player Nasim Pedrad won’t be back considering she is joining the cast of the new Fox comedy “Mulaney,” though no official announcement has been made.

Chin up, Wheelan. It’s sad to see a young comic take his lumps, though “SNL” history is littered with talent that didn’t last long on the show, only to find success elsewhere. Don’t be shocked if Wheelan suddenly shows up in pilot season next year, laughing all the way to the bank.

Though “SNL” is an incredibly powerful springboard for launching new talent, it’s not for everyone. Just because someone flames out on “SNL” doesn’t mean he or she doesn’t have the goods for a showbiz career.

Pam Oliver being pushed aside for Erin Andrews, won't be welcomed back after this season

Pam Oliver's days with Fox on the NFL sidelines may be numbered, but the network says she hasn't been sacked.

According to a report Monday in Sports Illustrated, Oliver is being bumped back to the second string for the 2014-2015 season and then she won't be on the sidelines at all after that.

The same report says Erin Andrews is slated to take her place on Fox's lead crew, which also includes Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in the broadcasting booth.

When Oliver first met with Fox Sports president Eric Shanks and executive vice president of production John Entz after the 2013 football season ended, they informed her she was off game day broadcasting duty altogether, the report says. After further discussion, however, they allowed Oliver one final season — her 20th — on the sidelines.

Also read: Fox Sports Reporter Pam Oliver Suffered Concussion From Football to the Face

“To go from the lead crew to no crew was a little shocking,” Oliver told SI. “I said I wanted to do a 20th year [on the sidelines]. I expressed to them that I was not done and had something to offer. Again, I think it was predetermined coming in. Not at that meeting, but two years ago it was determined that no matter what I did or did not do, a change would be made for this year.”

Why are they moving the 53-year-old reporter?

According to SI, one “veteran reporter” thinks it's because of Oliver's age and outward appearance. ”She's not blonde, nor is she in the demographic,” said the anonymous reporter. “I'm not naïve and I understand it's a business, but I think that Fox did not treat her as befits a woman who has been the female face of their sports operation for the past 19 years.”

Fox is telling a different story.

A statement given to TheWrap Monday was headlined “Pam Oliver elevated to senior correspondent.” In it, the network announced Oliver would join Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch next season as part of a new broadcasting team, but absent was any mention of Oliver's disappointment.

“FOX Sports has grown tremendously over the last few years, and we've secured and retained the rights to many of the country's most popular sports,” said Shanks.

“After years of admiring Pam's consistently incredible work on the NFL, we realized that there was so much more she could do for us, on a variety of sports, all year long. Her intelligence and skills as a reporter and interviewer are unparalleled, and we're excited to have her take a much larger role here.”

Ask Lauren: How to Love the Body You Have

Here on LaurenConrad.com we post a lot of blogs about slimming down, shaping up, and getting fit. I’ll be the first one to admit that I love to read diet and fitness tips because I think a healthy lifestyle is important. But behind all of this talk of toning up lies the heart of what it means to be healthy: Loving the skin you’re in and treating it right. One reader recently wrote a comment that really inspired me and sparked a conversation on the blog. She explained that “loving the body you have” is a great way to be confident, but that constantly working to improve our health is what’s really important. I was happy to see this interesting take on the whole idea of “slimming down” and “shaping up” because it showed me that our readers are quite intuitive about body image. In a nutshell, here’s what one reader, Halie, wrote:

[Being healthy] shouldn’t be about appearance, it should be about health. Love yourself so much that you want to be healthy. Once I let go of trying to be skinny or perfect and focused on the idea of loving my body so much that I gave it the very best treatment, I got healthier.

Another reader, Hannah, agreed and wrote back with this:

Although it’s great to “be happy with the body you have,” what is even better is trying to improve and become healthier and more fit. Almost everyone I know, while of course they are worthy of self-confidence, should spend more time working out, choosing healthier meals and snacks, and making lifestyle changes rather than sitting on the couch.

Now here’s what I think about loving your body. As women, we all have things that we can be self conscious of. Whether it’s wishing our tummies were a little flatter or our arms were a little more toned (for me it’s the stubborn cellulite on my thighs), there are always those little things we wish we could change about our bodies. My approach to most things in life has always been to accept it or change it. Because of this, I have always used my flaws as motivation to work harder and stay in shape. But as I have grown, I have learned more to love my body for what it is. After all, it’s been good to me. It takes me on afternoon hikes and runs alongside my dogs in the sand. It built me the raised beds in my garden and feels strong when I workout at the gym. And, in exchange, I treat my body the best I can. I stay active and feed it healthy food. I let it rest at night and take vitamins to keep it strong. I love my body the way it is because I have treated it well and continued to exercise and feed it healthy food throughout the years. I am all for body confidence, but I am even more for living a healthy lifestyle.

This summer, remember that working toward that “bikini body” I often refer to does not mean working to fit into a certain mold. A bikini body is not a certain weight, size or shape. It simply means working hard to treat your body right, exercise, eat healthy, and then feeling confident in your bikini. That, ladies, is the best way to learn to love the skin you’re in.

Fashion designer, best selling author and lifestyle expert Lauren Conrad hosts the Malibu Island Spiced Summer Soiree at the Mondrian South Beach Hotel on July 9, 2014 in Miami, Florida.

Justin Timberlake "In His Prime" Was Her Childhood Crush

LC still xo JT! Lauren Conrad told Us Weekly at the Mondrian South Beach in Miami Beach, Fla., that her childhood crush will forever be Justin Timberlake, even after he famously dissed reality TV back in 2007.

The former Hills star, 28, told Us that Timberlake graced her California bedroom walls as a child. Asked whether it was "young curly-haired Justin" or post-'N Sync Timberlake, she elaborated of the latter: "Like, the hair, license-plate-around-the-neck Justin in his prime."

Conrad's hilarious admission was made while hosting the Malibu Spiced Summer Soiree on Wednesday, July 9 -- nearly seven years after Timberlake memorably snubbed reality television onstage at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

Writing a new book!

In an interview with 'Venue Magazine,' she responded to the question whether she plans to publish more books, "I do. Yes, very soon, I'd like to come up with a new book". She said, "I was taking a break. It was a lot. I wrote 8 books in a very short amount of time and I needed to breathe."

What factors do you think are important when it comes to loving your body?

Author of “How to Survive the Bulls of Pamplona” gets gored by bull in Pamplona

For the bulls, he was perhaps the most tantalizing of targets.

"Buffalo" Bill Hillmann is considered the best young bull runner from the United States. He travels to Spain from his Chicago home every summer for the famous running of the bulls in Pamplona. He even co-wrote a book, "Fiesta: How to Survive the Bulls of Pamplona," that offered novices handy tips to avoid getting hurt at the festival.

But the bulls didn't care.

Hillmann was one of two people gored Wednesday at Spain's famous San Fermin festival in Pamplona. The weeklong party attracts hundreds of thousands of thrill seekers from around the world, who make a half-mile mad dash -- the encierro -- through the city's cobblestone streets each morning at 8 a.m., chased by angry bulls.

In Wednesday's run, which featured six 1,300-pound black Victoriano del Rio bulls, one of the animals broke loose from the pack and gored Hillmann and another man, a Spaniard. The American stumbled, fell to the ground and was stabbed by the bull's horn in his right thigh, according to Hillmann's friend and coauthor, Alexander Fiske-Harrison, who posted photos of the frightening but also embarrassing incident on his blog.

Fortunately, the bull's horn missed Hillmann's artery and bone. He underwent surgery and is expected to recover. A local website for San Fermin aficionados quoted Hillmann's medical report as saying his condition was "not serious."

Hillmann's wife, Enid, was at his hospital bedside, Fiske-Harrison wrote.

The Spaniard who was gored alongside Hillmann is believed to have suffered more severe injuries to his chest. The regional government termed his condition "serious." Three other men were injured in the melee, but not gored.

Spain's San Fermin festival dates to the 13th century. It was immortalized by Ernest Hemingway in his 1926 novel "The Sun Also Rises."

Runners wear white, with red bandannas and cummerbunds, thought to symbolize the purity and martyrdom of St. Fermin, a Roman who converted to Christianity in the 3rd century. The heart-pounding chase ends in Pamplona's grand bullring, where that day's six bulls are killed each evening.

The daily bull run starts at 8am and usually lasts around three to five minutes.

Fifteen people have died during the bull run since there since record-keeping began in the 1920s, with 14 fatal gorings and one man dying of traumatic asphyxiation during a pile-up at the bullring entrance. A 27-year-old man from Madrid was the last person to be killed during the bull run after being gored in the neck in 2009.

Claire Leeson is 24 years old and "up to her eyeballs" in debt. But her money problems don't come from school loans or car payments: They come from her desire (need?) to look like Kim Kardashian West, whom Leeson idolizes above all others.

Leeson became obsessed with Kim K after she started watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2009 and, having been bullied at school, she began imitating the most famous (and most annoying) (My favorite is Khloe) Kardashian in order to give herself a boost of confidence. When she's "got her Kimmy on"Leeson says, she feels unstoppable, invincible and like she's really making something of herself.

She also says that being Kim Kardashian makes her love herself a little more. (Which makes some sense because there's no one that loves themselves more than Kim. Only Kanye can match her complete self-absorption.)

Leeson has spent over 30 thousand dollars to transform herself into her idol. She's undergone breast augmentation and regularly pays for teeth whitening, makeup, padded underwear (the Metro refers to it as bum padding which makes it sound fun and quaint but also not 350 pounds fun and quaint), hair extensions and extensive tanning. She pays for it all with credit cards and is now in extreme debt due to her transformation. She's even been summoned to court, but that's not stopping her. Leeson's now looking into more extreme measures to emulate Kim. Her latest plan is to have fat transplants to her butt so that she can achieve Kim's glorious derriere without the silicone prosthetics she currently wears.

Leeson told This Morning that her parents are worried about her, but she doesn't plan on ending her transformation anytime soon. When asked about ways that she relates to Kim, Leeson said "We have the same amount of siblings...we have the same kind of arguments."
