Jon Hamm Having Surgery to Remove Polyp From His Throat

$

There's a reason why Jon Hamm's voice has been more Don-Draper-after-a-bender than Mercedes-ad-smooth for the last few months.

The Mad Men star will be undergoing surgery to have a single polyp removed from his throat, according to his rep, who called it a routine outpatient procedure.

Hamm had reportedly been overhead talking about his medical condition with onscreen ex-wife January Jones at Fox's Emmys afterparty last night.

So maybe the massive beard has also been keeping his vocal cords warm in the meantime!

The hirsute Hamm, clad in a white Armani tuxedo jacket and black pants, appeared to be in his usual good spirits after the show, despite Mad Men having gone 0-for-12 this year.

In fact, he and Amy Poehler cheekily hosted a losers party for all the win-challenged nominees at the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards (though they let Tina Fey, a winner for writing on 30 Rock, in anyway).

"We figured that the winners get celebrated enough, so we thought it was about time that the losers get celebrated," Hamm told E! News on Friday at the Vanity Fair and Maybelline Mad Men party at West Hollywood's Chateau Marmont.

He also explained his beard (which has an impressive lack of gray in it) to us, saying he simply loves not shaving.

"This ends up happening," Hamm said. "I was in England and was working on a project and had been away for four months and I finally got home and I was like, 'I think I'm done with shaving for a little while.' That was three days ago and then this happens."

And just as he predicted, he did not shave it off in time for the Emmys.

Arnold Schwarzenegger out with new girlfriend

Arnold Schwarzenegger appears to have sealed his split from estranged wife Maria Shriver with a kiss ... for his new chick.

Arnold was photographed planting a big wet one on Heather Milligan Friday night after a romantic dinner in Santa Monica. (FYI, they ate at Fig in the Fairmont Hotel. Nice choice.)

They arrived and left separately, but that didn't stop Arnold from slipping Heather a sloppy goodbye kiss as she got into her car. They've been rumored to be dating for months.

A sock-wearing Beyoncé was spotted at an airport with her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in Puerto Rico on Sunday. The singer is currently in the middle of the Latin America leg of her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, which she has already taken to Europe and North America. However, she isn't expected to play in Puerto Rico until later this month, so it may have been a layover. Aside from bopping from stadium to stadium in Latin America, Beyoncé has been enjoying the sights and sounds of the countries south of the border. She shared snaps of her trip to Brazil last week, including photos of herself holding up a Brazilian flag rug and meeting with children at a public school in Rio de Janeiro.

Beyoncé is getting ready for two shows in Mexico, one in Monterrey and the other in Mexico City, later this week before she lands back in Puerto Rico for a concert in San Juan. After that, Bey will head to Australia and New Zealand to continue her tour.

You glow, girl!

Kim Kardashian has been laying low since welcoming North West on June 2, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been keeping busy.

In addition to spending mommy time with her daughter and filming with her family, she's also been moving forward with her fifth fragrance, Pure Honey.

The star glows in a gorgeous ad for the new scent, which is a little bit of a departure from her previously sexy perfume campaigns.

"I wanted Pure Honey to be both light and sweet but also powerfully seductive," says Kim. "As women we all have these dual natures. We can be girly and playful but also tempting and captivating at the same time. Combining the two elements was the perfect way to capture our full femininity. I created it to be delectable and craveable, like all beautiful women are."

To that note (literally), the perfume is a sweet blend of red rose, freesia, coconut, vanilla, and yes, honey.

What do you think of Kim's latest ad?

Lamar Odom BLASTS Dad Joe For “Disrespecting” Khloe Kardashian and Her Family

Lamar Odom took to Twitter on Tuesday night to BLAST his father for derogratory comments he made about the Kardashians in a new interview.

The NBA player, who is said to be estranged from wife Khloe Kardashian as he struggles with a drug addiction, posted a scathing rant about his dad, Joe, hours after the elder Odom claimed the infamous family has ruined his son’s life.

Among Joe’s incendiary comments: He called Khloe’s mom Kris an “evil bitch,” and accused the matriarch of manufacturing the stories about Odom’s alleged drug abuse, said he wishes Odom never wed Khloe, and called the couple’s reality show a “curse.”

Joe also urged Odom to get a divorce, saying, “They don’t give a f*ck about my son. It’s more about the damage they do to the Kardashian brand. They brought him down. He’d be better off without them. Let him go, get his life together.”

In his response, Odom wrote:

Won’t continue 2 speak on this but I have got 2 let this out real quick. I have let this man and many others get away with a lot of shit. He wasn’t there 2 raise me. He was absent ALL of my life due to his own demons. My mother and grandmother raised me. Queens raised me. For the first time since they left, came a blessing of a FAMILY that I married into. FAMILY. That man wasn’t even invited to my wedding. He has never met my mother in law and some of my other family. How can a man who has NOT once called me to check on my well being have the nerve to talk so recklessly about his own “son”. He is my downfall! His own demons may be the ONLY thing he gave 2 me. He disrespecting the ONLY FAMILY that has loved me without expecting anything in return. They are the ONLY ones that have been here consistently 4 me during this dark time. Only person 2 blame is myself. Say what you want about me but leave the ones who have done nothing but protect and love me out of this! This goes to out to everyone!

Odom’s message is the first use of his social media account in more than two months.

The Man Who Gets The Science Right On 'The Big Bang Theory'

$

Sure, Bob Newhart may have won his first Emmy for guest-starring as Professor Proton on the hugely popular show The Big Bang Theory, about four young scientists at Caltech. But behind the scenes is a real-life professor, David Saltzberg of UCLA.

Saltzberg studies high-energy particle physics and high-energy neutrino astronomy, using radio-detection techniques when he's not working as The Big Bang Theory's science consultant.

"It's just like a physics lab!" Saltzberg exclaims as he maneuvers around the show's sprawling set. "You have to watch where you walk. There are cables and everything everywhere."

Every week, Saltzberg attends the show's live taping at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif. He makes sure the whiteboards are correct. For every new episode, they're covered by a fresh scrawl of formulas dreamed up by Saltzberg and admired by physicists for their scrupulous accuracy — and occasional shoutouts to what's happening in the world of science.

"The whiteboards have dozens of fans," Saltzberg jokes.

Saltzberg also reviews scripts in progress. They arrive with unfinished dialogue and brackets reading, "Insert Science Here." He fills in the blanks, as in an episode where Dr. Sheldon Cooper, a puffed-up theoretical physicist, keeps bumming rides from a neighbor.

"She couldn't understand why Sheldon never got a driver's license," Saltzberg explains. When she asks what Sheldon was doing at age 16, when everyone else was learning to drive, he answers, as per Saltzberg, "Examining perturbative amplitudes in N=4 supersymmetric theories, leading to a reexamination of the ultraviolet properties of multiloop N=8 supergravity, using modern twistor theory."

As it happens, that's "a real, important project that one of my friends is working on," Saltzberg says.

The scientist got involved with The Big Bang Theory in 2007, when the show was little more than a theoretical construct. The set designers asked him to show them some real graduate students' apartments, so they could see how young scientists really live.

"And they did a nice, faithful re-creation of their apartments," he said, adding that after CBS tested the show, the sets were scrapped, because, Saltzberg thinks, the sets were too depressing.

Saltzberg gets backup from actress Mayim Bialik, who happens to have a PhD in neuroscience. (Her character, Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, is also a neuroscientist.) She helps Saltzberg fine-tune the show's scientific details.

"Like, what kind of microscope would they be using, or how thin should these slices be," she offers as an example.

For his part, Saltzberg has gotten in front of the camera exactly once. He was an extra in a scene in a university cafeteria, when the nebbishy Howard Wolowitz shares a thrilling milestone: He finally has a girlfriend. Saltzberg describes his acting technique thusly: "I just looked at him like, what's your problem? Why are you bothering me? I'm a physicist. I have other things to think about."

Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje has joined the cast of Sony Pictures' Annie, a reimagining of the Broadway musical, which stars Quvenzhané Wallis as the title character.

Agbaje will play a character named Nash, who's described as the tough but lovable bodyguard and driver for Benjamin Stacks (the character played by Jamie Foxx - the Daddy Warbucks of the movie).

He's also a good friend to Annie.

Co-starring Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne, the film is currently filmming in New York City, under Will Gluck's direction, based on a script he revised, originally written by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.

Will & Jada Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, in partnership with Jay-Z (who'll be working on the soundtrack) are producing.

The long-in-development remake of the Broadway musical will be released by Sony Pictures on December 19, 2014 (Sony moved the date up a week).

Up next for the busy Mr Agbaje, catch him in George Tillman Jr.'s The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete, in theaters on October 11, and then Thor: Dark World on November 8. Further out, he'll appear in Paul W.S. Anderson’s actioner Pompeii.

Britney Spears To Make 'Alan Carr: Chatty Man' Appearance

Britney Spears is set to make an appearance on Alan Carr's Channel 4 talk show 'Chatty Man' during an upcoming visit to the UK.

The singer - who was recently confirmed for a Las Vegas residency - will be interviewed by the comedian as part of the promotion for her comeback single 'Work Bitch'.

Confirming the news on her Twitter page on Tuesday night, she wrote: "Making a trip across the pond in a few weeks to see @chattyman and all my lovely UK fans...can't wait! xo."

The interview marks Britney's first appearance on primetime British TV since performing 'Womaniser' on 'The X Factor' in 2008.

However, Alan probably shouldn't expect too much out of Britney, as Simon Cowell recently said that one of the reasons she was dropped as a judge on the US version of 'The X Factor' last year was because she didn't talk.

Daniel Radcliffe Shoots Down Freddie Mercury Casting Rumours ...

The Former Harry Potter Star Has Denied That He Is To Step Into Sacha Baron Cohen's Shoes As The Lead In A Biopic Of The Late Queen Singer

It's not a kind of magic: Daniel Radcliffe won't be playing Freddy Mercury. Photograph: guardian.co.uk

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has denied reports he will play the late Queen singer Freddie Mercury in a new biopic.

Radcliffe had emerged as a favourite with bookmakers to take the high-profile role following a report in the Daily Star. But he told Empire's podcast there was "no truth" in the rumour. He said: "Everyone on the internet who I presume is saying I'm totally wrong for that part is correct. I am completely wrong for that part!

"If I'd seen a rumour about me playing Iggy Pop, I'd think, 'Hey, I'd have a go at that - that'd be fun!', but Freddie Mercury? No.
I don't even know who the director is. They seem to be saying it's Stephen Frears and Tom Hooper on the internet.

"This is the kind of thing that happens to me and it happens to Emma (Watson) with multiple 50 Shades Of Grey things. When somebody has column inches to fill, they just sub in one of our names." Radcliffe had been (spuriously) tipped to replace Sacha Baron Cohen in the planned biopic, the latter reportedly having exited over his desire for a racy "warts and all" portrayal of the flamboyant singer. Mercury's erstwhile bandmates are said to be planning a more "family-friendly" approach.

NEW GIRL: "NERD" REVIEW

$
0
0

This week's episode titled "Nerd" introduced an intriguing Mean Girls-esque storyline for Jess, who was the proverbial Cady Heron to the "cool teacher" clique at her school. Among them were Angela Kinsey and Mark Proksch (both from The Office), as well as Dreama Walker (Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23). Sadly, their characters were given very little to do in this episode, despite their presumed centrality to the plot. Instead, this storyline was more about Jess trying to fit in, with Nick helping her along the way. On the one hand, it was good because this was the first time we got see Nick and Jess acting as a couple in the loft, which was great. That said, it was kind of a waste of talented guest stars. (I think Kinsey maybe had two or three lines in the whole thing.)
Schmidt's irritating girlfriend exploits also continued this week, as he scheduled a two-timer date with Cece and Elizabeth. (Sigh...) While the office party resulted in a predictable display of Schmidt running back and forth between the two women, there was, to this episode's credit, a twist ending in that he actually pulled it off -- even after Cece and Elizabeth met face to face. What's annoying about that, though, is Schmidt is now only prolonging the inevitable fallout. I'd rather him just be done with it so we can move on from this string of obviously poor decisions. (Let's be real. "Shawty" wins all.)

Meanwhile, Winston's storyline didn't fare much better... Surprise, surprise. We knew that Winston would probably have to break up with Daisy at some point (since Brenda Song is now a regular on Seth MacFarlane's FOX comedy Dads), but this was maybe the least-graceful exit they could have given her. For Winston to suspect Daisy of cheating was one thing, but then for that to actually be the case? It felt sort of weak. No comical misunderstanding or disagreement, just "Yep, I cheated." End of story. Honestly, I think I would have preferred Daisy not come back at all. But instead, the writers changed Daisy's character to serve a simpleminded plot, one that we didn't even really need in the first place.
Winston's cat-murder subplot was a little more entertaining (and I never thought I'd say that), but what made it funnier was how Nick tried to keep both Winston and Jess in check at the same time. Truthfully, Nick saved this episode, and it was kind of invigorating to see him in boyfriend mode -- or at least the Nick Miller brand of boyfriend mode. I especially enjoyed his advice to Jess at the bar about how drinking really does make you cooler. ("That is the only thing in the world I know to be true.")
Overall, this episode didn't really follow through on any of its setups, and the laughs were pretty scarce to boot -- with a few notable exceptions: 1) Schmidt's perfect two-thirds replica of Don Draper's office; 2) Nick and Schmidt's elevator button argument; and 3) all three of the guys singing their own rendition of "I Believe I Can Fly." Also, Schmidt's cat nipples, which... yeah.
THE VERDICT:
Jess's "cool teacher" storyline featured several promising guest stars that were all underused. Meanwhile, Schmidt's trite, two-timer date with Cece and Elizabeth ended in frustrating results, and Winston's breakup with Daisy didn't fare much better. In the end, it was Nick who kept this episode afloat, as he played the field between Jess and Winston's problems.

I don't like Schmidt's storyline, it's not funny, it's frustrating ugh

The Mindy Project Review: Office Space

the opening scene was hilarious omg

The Mindy Project opened this week with a tribute 1999's Varsity Blues and Ali Larter's whipped cream bikini. Seriously, fellas. Be very sad if you missed this one.
Mindy opted for the one-piece look, but her description of where she hid some candy let her guarded sexuality seep through. From there, "The Other Dr. L" focused on Mindy's return to the practice and her having to cope with some changes.
You can't blame the staff for falling for the colorful Dr. Paul Leotard, but you had to feel for the prodigal practitioner.
Mindy: Okay I have no office, I have no patients, I have this horrible short haircut, my name is not Dr. L anymore and I have a UTI from discount whipped cream.
Mindy was then showed to her new office in the supply closet, which brought to mind Milton Waddams from Office Space. Part of me would have like to see what an all-star crew from HGTV could have done with that spot, but Mindy decided to take matters into her own hands... once she learned about Paul's low tolerance for alcohol.
Mindy may have hurt her triceps cutting a steak, but she flexed her liver and drank her nemesis under the table. James Franco is a man of many talents, one of which is portraying someone under the influence of any number of poisons. As much as she hated him for moving in on her practice, Mindy still couldn't resist trying to steal a kiss off the passed out Paul, who hilariously came to and began screaming for help.
I thought we had seen the last of Chloe Sevigny's Christina, but then she appeared at Danny's apartment with a box of his things and decided to twist the knife in her ex-husband one last time.
Kudos to Paul for coming clean to Danny about Christina, but Danny had every right to take his swing. Danny had just as much a part in his relationships failure, yet he constantly shows what a good guy he is, such as when he brought Paul his hangover special sandwich. He and his crew of reluctant bachelors playing hoops was pretty comical. The addition of Kris Humphreys to the group was a pretty great scene, too. I loved watching Mindy fix her hair and try to sneak in a hug with the Kardashian castoff.
I wonder if they have room for Lamar Odom.
In the end, Danny returned to the practice only to find out Paul had left. It will be good to have the band back together, but I hope we haven't seen the last of Dr. Paul Leotard.
