Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams comments on Miley Cyrus' VMA performance

Paramore

Paramore star Hayley Williams has sparked a new pop feud by taking aim at Miley Cyrus for her controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (25Aug13).

The former child star split fans and peers with her provocative routine, during which she thrust her backside into stage partner Robin Thicke's crotch, while sticking her tongue out at the audience. Williams insists she wasn't bothered by Miley's naughty act, but she was offended by the fact the 20 year old appeared to adopt moves that are popular in African-American culture as her own.

The Paramore singer rages, "It seems like more people are focusing on the trashiness or the dancing, the clothes. But I, actually, am uncomfortable with the racial aspect of it. I feel like she’s sort of taking a culture that isn’t really hers and sort of using it as an accessory, and that actually bothers me more...

"I feel like maybe someone needs to go to her and sort of explain the race issue.

"I’m not going to be the artist that goes around throwing accusations that other artists are racist. I’m not gonna go there. I do think it’s a little insensitive, and it definitely seems as though there were black women onstage with her that... kinda felt like accessories more than anything else. I felt uncomfortable about that.

"I think Miley’s a 20-year-old girl who’s going to experience, or try to experience, new things for the first time, and that does include partying and wearing certain things that people aren’t going to feel comfortable with, and that, to me, is the lesser of any of the evils. That part doesn’t make me as uncomfortable."

Rebecca Hall: Strong Female Characters Ain't Saints

Rebecca Hall thinks Hollywood gets it wrong when it comes to women.

Strong doesn't equal saintly.

"There’s been a sort of trend for awhile of people writing strong women as women who are morally right, which is so uninteresting, " Hall told TheWrap. "It's no fun and frankly it's a massive disservice to womankind. It boxes us in to making these sort of slightly dull, virtuous choices."

The English actress' search for a character who was prickly and flawed led her to the legal thriller "Closed Circuit," which opens Wednesday. In it, Hall plays a brilliant lawyer whose extramarital affair with a colleague (Eric Bana) ruins his marriage and threatens to undermine their defense of an accused terrorist.

Hall said she has noticed a trend where there are more parts for females that involve behaving badly.

"We need to be villains too," Hall said.  "We need to be messy and sloppy and three-dimensional and complicated and that’s writing a strong woman. I liked that this woman was making mistakes and was compromised."

"Closed Circuit" may only be a teaser for what's to come when Hall makes her Broadway debut later this year in "Machinal." The play is inspired by a true murder case that inspired "Double Indemnity" and "The Postman Always Rings Twice" and centers on a woman who has an affair with a younger man and kills her husband.

The whole caper sounds, well ... messy and sloppy.

The play was written by journalist Sophie Treadwell and was first produced in 1928. However, it is not well known; with the exception of a Fiona Shaw-led revival in 1993 at London's Royal National Theatre, it is rarely performed.

"It’s a fascinating play that’s essentially been buried for ages," Hall said. "I think people study it in colleges and people are aware of it, but nobody really does it. It's an example of a writer being slightly written out of history."

Mekhi Phifer has joined the cast of Showtime’s Don Cheadle dramedy series House Of Lies, for its upcoming 3rd season.

Cheadle stars as Marty, a highly successful, cutthroat consultant who will use any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information that they want.

Kevin Spacey Says TV 'Learned The Lesson That The Music Industry' Hasn't

Netflix's hit series, House of Cards, has been a hot topic of conversation due to its nine Emmy nominations from the Internet platform.

While in attendance at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival delivering the James McTaggart Memorial Lecture, Kevin Spacey (Francis Underwood) spoke about the model that Netflix has used, which has parlayed the company into success.

"Clearly, the success of the Netflix model, releasing the entire season of House of Cards at once, proved one thing: the audience wants the control. They want the freedom. If they want to binge, as they've been doing on House of Cards and lots of other shows, then we should let them binge," he said.

The veteran actor continued on about the typical viewer, and how they deserve the right to pick and choose how many episodes and at what time they'd like to watch them, which he says is the way of the future.

"And through this new form of distribution, we have demonstrated that we have learned the lesson that the music industry didn't learn: give people what they want, when they want it, in the form they want it in, at a reasonable price, and they'll more likely pay for it rather than steal it," Spacey added.

No current air date for House of Cards has yet to be announced. However, it was recently projected to start season 2 at some point in early 2014. Be sure to keep checking back for more of the latest information on the popular series.

Mila and Ashton take their love to China, remain adorable

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are taking their love to new heights…literally!

The Hollywood couple took time out of their jam-packed schedules for a little adventure in Beijing. Before they climbed the Great Wall of China, the adorable twosome shared some PDA with one final hug in the misty streets.

The couple's trip comes at a busy time for both of the actors. While Kutcher continues to promote Jobs, Kunis is busy shooting Jupiter Ascending with Channing Tatum. But despite work schedules, this couple always seems to find a way to reconnect all over the world.

Earlier this summer, the two enjoyed a romantic trip to St. Tropez. They also shared some quality time together in London with Princess Beatrice and her boyfriend Dave Clark.

Looks like long distance is not a problem for this couple. Kudos to them!

Niliria G Dragon featuring Missy Elliot

On August 25th, G-Dragon finally saw the fruition of his hard and collaborative work with Missy Elliott. In a performance set to air via MNET's special, "M! Countdown: What's Up LA?", the YG Entertainment star revealed his next track, "Niliria" or "New Era" which will feature the famous and respected female rapper. He's been waiting for this as he had been tweeting about it prior to the performance.

The audience of about 20,000+ in the Los Angeles Sports Arena then just also became witnesses to an historic event, with the big names of K-pop and American music joining forces in one track on one stage. As the pair's performance was the closing act of the event, it definitely allowed a feverish cap to the already powerful line-up of performances that night.

Missy Elliott set the stage and dropped the hint for the collaboration stage, as she performed 'Get Ur Freak On' shortly after SM Entertainment EXO's 3-song stage. With one last K-pop artist still to perform that night, G-Dragon, fans could only expect that they were about to see the much anticipated work from the two big stars. As G-Dragon brought the arena to high excitement with his own 3-song set of "One of A Kind", "MichiGo" and "Crayon", the atmosphere was properly preheated as what the collab stage would deserve.

The Sims 4 Has Weight Loss and Weight Gain, Fitness Modeling

$

Fitness will be an important facet of gameplay in The Sims 4, which allows its virtual inhabitants, known as Sims, to change their body shape through living experiences. This element is known as fitness modeling and has an actual impact on gameplay well beyond aesthetics.

“Sims can naturally change over time in the game. If they overeat they’ll become overweight. If they never exercise, they might become overweight. But if you eat healthily or eat properly or you exercise, your sims will lose weight,” said Maxis’s Grant Rodiek in an interview with PCGamesN.

Interestingly, or perhaps troublingly, Sims will react emotionally to changes in their body.

“We have the ability for them to be unhappy about their weight. It’s tricky with the emotional state being based on people’s weight. We want to make sure we’re not making a statement or telling people what’s right or wrong, but you can tell a story with those tools,” he said.

“We give you all the pieces you need to tell that story if you want to do that.”

“Your sims might react, like, when they get bigger you’ll notice they’ll look at themselves and react. How well we change their emotional state based on it, we don’t want to make a statement about things like that because that’s not our place to do that.”

At this point in time, it’s unknown what mechanisms the developer will be implementing into The Sims 4′s fitness modeling system. It wouldn’t bode well for gameplay if Sims suffered from perpetually low self-esteem if they weren’t deemed “fit” by the game.

The Sims 4 is slated for a 2014 release on the PC and Mac.

This is why we can’t have nice things, physical media lovers

At The Digital Bits, editor Bill Hunt writes about an alarming innovation in the world of Blu-rays. The standard disc for Star Trek Into Darkness includes seven featurettes about the making of the film, but if you want the full breadth of extras that Paramount produced, you won’t find them there, or in any one place. Instead, they’ve spread around the supplements, including a J.J. Abrams commentary track, to numerous retailer exclusive editions. Target got a few on a bonus disc, Best Buy got a couple others, and iTunes got the exclusive on the Abrams commentary. To buy those three editions alone would set you back $70.

Hunt says Paramount’s plan is a major problem:

“Now… I’m sure this plan looked great from a studio marketing standpoint. ‘Let’s do something exciting to make our retail partners feel special.’ But how about doing something to make your customers feel special? Look, I get the occasional exclusive Bonus Disc on catalog titles. But taking fully half or more of the special features created for a major Blu-ray release and casting them to the winds as retailer exclusives, thus forcing your customers to go on an expensive scavenger hunt–if they even know about the exclusives at all–is, I’m sorry, absolutely outrageous.

Spreading incentives around to different retailers is already widespread in the world of videogames (where pre-orders sales are boosted through the use of exclusive character skins and bonus missions), and it’s been used occasionally in the past for movies as well; a few years ago, I spent a couple of weeks visiting every Best Buy in my area searching for a copy of their exclusive “Rich Mahogany Edition” of Anchorman, which included a second disc, a pack of trading cards, and a Ron Burgundy journal you couldn’t get anywhere else at the time. The practice of producing multiple editions of movies for DVD or Blu-ray isn’t new; forcing customers to “double dip” by releasing a bare-bones disc first and a supplements -aden “special edition” later has been the norm for years.

We should never forget that DVDs and Blu-rays, like all aspects of the movie business, are just that: a business. After years of extreme profitability, the physical media market has shrunk. The money lost by customers fleeing to streaming media, online rentals, and video on demand has to be recouped somewhere. Theoretically, that’s fine.

What makes this Star Trek Into Darkness example so bad is that it combines all the studio’s worst money-making schemes into a perfect storm of consumer exploitation; multiple retailer exclusives and double (or triple or quadruple) dipping, all on expensive discs with suggested retail prices of $20 or more. Plus they did it for a Star Trek movie, a product aimed at a fanbase so insanely devoted they’re likely to actually shell out for multiple versions of the movie just to own them all.

Decisions like this one may boost sales in the short term, but they will almost certainly hasten the long-term abandonment of physical media in favor of cloud-based services. If the crew of the Enterprise think they’re trekking into darkness now, just imagine how bleak things will get when customers get so sick of these sorts of treasure hunts that they stop buying Blu-rays completely.

Big Brother Contestant Aaryn Gries Evicted, Dragged By Julie Chen

Big Brother contestant Aaryn Gries was evicted by fellow contestants on Thursday, allowing host Julie Chen to confront her for the first time for the racist behavior she displayed on the show.

After she was unanimously voted off the show by the other contestants, Aaryn sat with Chen for a biting interview.

Julie Chen asked Aaryn if she had an explanation for her behavior, but Aaryn appeared to dodge the issue and said the accusations were overblown. But when Chen read word-for-word accounts of what Aaryn had said, the college student changed her tune. “I do not remember saying those things,” she said. “That was not meant to be serious, and if I said those things I feel horrible because I regret that.”[video above]

Earlier this season Aaryn displayed racist and homophobic behavior toward her fellow contestants. In a confrontation with Candice, an African-American contestant, Aaryn adopted an over-the-top black dialect to mock her. At another time she pointed to some snacks and said “I axed… I asked for it.” Aaryn then told Candice “You’ve got me saying axed!”

Candice later said, “I know how to talk. Clearly, that’s a dialect thing. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through this week.”

Aaryn Gries was also overheard mocking Asian-American contestant Helen and referring to openly gay contestant Andy as a queer.

The situation grew so dire that CBS inserted a disclaimer at the beginning of the show saying the views of the contestants did not reflect the network. CBS President Les Moonves even spoke out about the season, saying he found the behavior of Aaryn and other contestants “absolutely appalling.”

“Big Brother is obviously is a social experiment. It always was,” said CBS President Les Moonves. “Clearly that’s what’s happening this year.”

Though Julie Chen was able to confront Big Brother contestant Aaryn Gries about her racism on the show, Chen was not able to relay any news from the outside world. Gries will have to wait until the completion of the show to find out that she was fired by her employer for the racism on the show.

MPAA Says The Violence In Eli Roth’s Green Infero Is “Aberrant”

$

Eli Roth's new movie (finally!) has earned itself an R rating from the MPAA, and as they do they have listed the reasons for their decision:

Rated R for aberrant violence and torture, grisly disturbing images, brief graphic nudity, sexual content, language and some drug use.

Clearly this tells you whether or not TheGreen Inferno is for you. As a dyed-in-the-wool fan of Italian cannibal movies, this is the second best news I could have gotten about the film (best would have been the movie going out unrated, but let's be realistic. That's for the home video release).

The movie will premiere at TIFF's Midnight Madness, and their blog makes a salient observation about Eli Roth's evolution:

Check out Roth's past MPAA scorecards. His violence started as "strong," then went to "brutal," then "sadistic," and finally to The Green Inferno's particularly evocative "aberrant." That's called "growing as a filmmaker."

Aberrant violence! It's like the MPAA is doing marketing now.

New Miley photoshoot

Miley Cyrus is on a roll and it seems she really can’t stop – with the risqué behaviour, that is.

The once wholesome Disney star is on a racy streak and judging by her latest photo shoot, isn’t planning on slowing down any time.

Just in case we hadn’t seen enough, the 20-year-old has stripped to some skimpy ensembles to pose for Notion magazine.

Miley can be seen in skintight white PVC trousers and a matching crop top with the word ‘business’ repeatedly scrawled across it.

For one image, the actress and singer leans forwards, sticking out her derriere which has the letter ‘M’ for Miley printed on it.

The former Hannah Montana star is sporting lots of red lipstick for the shoot and in one photo seductively bites on her finger.

Thor 2 extended TV spot + Tom Hiddleston is the first repeat winner of Anglo Fan Favorites title

Marvel Studios has released the first TV spot for Thor #2. Thor 2: The Dark World hammers into theaters November 8th, 2013 directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimidall, Zachary Levi as Fandral and Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Christopher Eccleston as Malekith the Accursed, Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Kurse.

Congratulations to Tom Hiddleston, who has won his second straight title as Anglo Fan Favorites Man of the Year. He defeated 2011 champion Alan Rickman 56 to 44 percent. The two actors traded leads for much of last weekend, but Hiddleston eventually extended a comfortable margin over Rickman, which he maintained through to the finish line.

Hiddleston, best known for his role as villainous Loki in the Thor films and The Avengers, has inspired a formidable following in a relatively short period of time. (The first Thor film was released in 2011.) His dominance in this year’s tournament raises the question — can anyone beat this guy?

Benedict Cumberbatch, runner-up to Hiddleston last year and the presumptive favorite this year, defeated Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith for third place 64 to 36 percent.

Teresa is facing a whopping 39 counts of fraud and tax evasion and RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that the star’s finances are so dire that she has resorted to begging her fans to pay her bills.

The star will be making an appearance to ask her loyal followers to donate money to her legal defense at the Malibu Beach Resort on Thursday night.

“Her supporters and millions of fans around the world strongly believe Teresa will be vindicated soon and are seeking donations for the star, who has four young children,” a press release about the event reads. “The group is dedicated to helping Teresa stay out of prison and also help pay any fines or other restitution that Teresa and Joe are ordered to pay.”

While the star has dismissed charges that she's in financial difficulties, the organizers expect to have “hundreds of fans collecting money” to help Teresa and Joe pay for their legal battle.

Perhaps due to backlash about the fundraiser, Teresa is denying the information in the press release, Tweeting: “Tonight’s appearance at Maliblue is just a meet & greet w/ fans. I just heard that some of the workers there wanted to support me, and that is very sweet & I appreciate it, but if anyone wants to support me, please do it by donating to a charity I love: @NephCure. Xx”

It definitely pays to have loyal fans, now hopefully they’re rich and generous too!

Brandi Has Words for Vicki, Slams Brooks!!

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville clearly thinks Vicki Gunvalson can do a lot better than recent boyfriend Brooks Ayers. And we mean a lot better.

This week's Real Housewives of Orange County Reunion Part 3 focused on the drama between Vicki and Brooks, with Vicki's daughter Briana bringing up a recorded conversation between Brooks and Briana's husband Ryan. During the conversation, Brooks threatened to beat Vicki and suggested Ryan do the same to Briana.

Now, Brandi is making it clear that she does not think Brooks deserves a second chance. On August 27, Brandi tweeted:

Then, when her Twitter follower responded by saying that Vicki is responsible for maintaining the relationship, Brandi agreed:

Whoa! You'd think Brandi would cut someone some slack for choosing the wrong guy, given that Brandi herself had her share of issues with former husband Eddie Cibrian. In fact, Brandi memorably referred to Eddie on RHoBH as "the number one douchebag of all time." So she's been in Vicki's shoes, one would think.

It's worth noting that Vicki and Brooks are rumored to still be together, following a revealing tweet by one of Vicki's former co-stars.

Is Caroline Manzo Getting a Real Housewives of New Jersey Spin-Off?!

Move over, Kardashians, the Manzos are getting their own reality show. Word reaches us that “Real Housewife of New Jersey” Caroline Manzo and her family will be getting their own, albeit less glamorous, show on Bravo.

We’re told that Caroline, husband Albert Manzo — co-owner of The Brownstone, an event and catering facility in Paterson — and their kids, Albie, Lauren and Christopher, are being lined up for the show. Presumably it would be based around their 40-year family business.

Meanwhile on “RHONJ,” Caroline has been hinting that Albert hasn’t always been faithful, while continuing a war with hairline-challenged alleged tax felon Teresa Giudice.
