Newsflash, ONTD: Pope Francis I Says Quote, "Who Am I To Judge Them?"... IS THAT SO?!

$

0

Pope Francis has had a busy week at World Youth Day in Rio as he visited his slums and prisons, blessed the Olympic flag and brought three million people to Copacabana Beach for a final Mass on Sunday morning.

Now he has made another headline, this time when the pontiff said, "Who am I to judge a gay person?"

While taking questions from reporters on the plane back to Rome, Francis spoke about gays and the reported"gay lobby." According to the Wall Street Journal, the Pope's comments about homosexuality came in the context of a question about gay priests.

The pontiff broached the delicate question of how he would respond to learning that a cleric in his ranks was gay, though not sexually active. For decades, the Vatican has regarded homosexuality as a"disorder," and Pope Francis' predecessor Pope Benedict XVI formally barred men with what the Vatican deemed "deep-seated" homosexuality from entering the priesthood.

"Who am I to judge a gay person of goodwill who seeks the Lord?" the pontiff said, speaking in Italian. "You can't marginalize these people."

John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter reported on the meeting as well and said the Pope also addressed the question of the Vatican's reported "gay lobby".

He hasn’t run into significant resistance to reform inside the Vatican, and joked that if there really is a “gay lobby” he hasn’t yet seen it stamped on anyone’s ID cards.

Father James Martin, S.J. who is an admirer of Francis, said that the pontiff's comment about gay people is consistent with the rest of his papacy.

"One of Francis's hallmarks is an emphasis on mercy, which you see in that response. That mercy, of course, comes from Jesus. And we can never have too much of it."

The pope did not offer much hope for those advocating for women Catholic priests, according to Allen at NCR, saying: Pope John Paul II “definitively … closed the door' to women priests.

More from the Associated Press:

ABOARD THE PAPAL AIRCRAFT — Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip.

"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.

His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.

Francis' remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil.

He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn't dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian news magazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst.

Francis said he investigated and found nothing to back up the allegations.

Francis was asked about Italian media reports suggesting that a group within the church tried to blackmail fellow church officials with evidence of their homosexual activities. Italian media reported this year that the allegations contributed to Benedict's decision to resign

While stressing Catholic social teaching that calls for homosexuals to be treated with dignity and not marginalized, Francis said it was something else entirely to conspire to use private information for blackmail or to exert pressure.

Francis was responding to reports that a trusted aide was involved in an alleged gay tryst a decade ago. He said he investigated the allegations according to canon law and found nothing to back them up. But he took journalists to task for reporting on the matter, saying the allegations concerned matters of sin, not crimes like sexually abusing children.

And when someone sins and confesses, he said,God not only forgives but forgets.

"We don't have the right to not forget," he said.

And in the iconic words of Miley Cystrus...

Well, this was interesting. He seems consistent enough, but I dunno. Like he doesn't judge me and the rest of the LGBTQ peeps but he won't allow women priests? Give or take, we can't have it all, blah blah blah, etc. Still too early to call if he's actually better than Pope BeneDICK imo. Et tu, ONTD?

Beyoncé's rep talks about her upcoming album!

$

The status of Beyoncé's new album has been the subject of scrutiny for much of 2013, thanks in no small part to her endless string of high-profile performances, TV specials and endorsement deals.

But in recent months, that scrutiny has gone to another level entirely.

Based on interviews given by collaborators Ne-Yo and Diplo — both of whom made it seem as if Beyoncé was still attempting to figure out a direction for the disc — and reports that she'd scrapped 50 songs intended for the album and was beginning from scratch, the project definitely seems to be in flux, and some have begun to wonder whether the follow-up to 4 would see the light this year.

All the while, Beyoncé's camp has shot down rumors of a delay, saying that there never has been a release date for the album, tentative or otherwise. And last week, when MTV News emailed her reps asking for a comment about a reported November release, we did not receive a response. But on Sunday, a spokesperson for Bey did give us an update on the progress she's making ... and, take note, BeyHivers, there is progress:

"She continues to work on her album," her rep wrote in an email.

Beyoncé will keep on working between dates on her Mrs. Carter World Tour, which wraps a North American run in August before heading back overseas. She'll return for another leg of North American shows at the end of 2013.

Robert Service's biography, "Stalin"

For anyone who has ever read a good book in bed.

The campaign is for Steimatzky Books, the largest and oldest bookstore chain in Israel.

The headline is such a nice understated and truthful statement. Thankfully, the copywriter didn’t try be too “twisty” with the line.

The visuals are very literal— something that I often have a problem with — but this is a literary campaign! So, they work. The art direction and photography are both excellent (I love the Stalin layout).

Teen Wolf 3.09 "The Girl Who Knew Too Much’ Recap Post

Teen Wolf season 3, episode 9 just finished airing! Come read our recap and discuss “The Girl Who Knew Too Much” with your fellow fans.

Teen Wolf season 3, episode 9 “The Girl Who Knew Too Much” began with the deputy walking through the school alone because someone called 911. When we hear the creepy chant through her radio, know that something is wrong.

And it most definitely is. The deputy sees her own dead body before she is strangled from behind by the Darach. Lydia shows up without meaning to and, learning from her past run-in with Stiles, calls him, Allison, and Scott to find the body.

The next day at school Scott and Stiles devise a plan to talk to Ethan. Unfortunately, they have to go through Aiden in order to do that, but Lydia seems to be the perfect distraction. Their time in the closet is cut short, however, when someone draws the spiral of vengeance on the window.

Ethan tells Scott and Stiles that he and Aiden were omegas when Deucalion found them. He taught them how to control their ability, and the twins subsequently killed each member of their pack, including their Alpha. It’s because of this that they owe Deucalion so much and stay loyal to him.

Back in the locker room we see Cora attacking Aiden. Ethan can feel it, and he, Scott, and Stiles come to Cora’s rescue. Ethan calls Aiden off, but not before Cora gets severely injured.

Teen Wolf Stiles The Girl Who Knew Too Much

Scott sent Isaac to keep an eye on Allison, but she finds him out. Together they look at what Allison’s father has been working on and, underneath the map, they see a Celtic five-fold knot. In each of the circles, we see the groups of sacrifices that the Darach has been killing.

While Jennifer and Derek enjoy a short-lived reunion, Stiles takes Cora home. On his way, Allison tells him that she thinks his father could be in trouble. He agrees to tell his dad, and needs Cora to help him.

Meanwhile, Scott goes to Morrell and flat-out asks her if she’s the killer. She denies it and her steady heartbeat backs up her story. She does have a warning for Scott, though: Deucalion wants a True Alpha in his pack, but if Scott won’t join his pack by choice, he’ll force him to kill.

When another teacher is taken, Lydia stumbles upon the room and, in some sort of trance, writes the number two on the board in the middle of a symbol that mysteriously showed up when he had turned his back. She screams right before it cuts to a commercial.

In the next scene, Stiles tries to convince his father that werewolves exist. After a hilarious scene of him trying to keep all the facts straight (“Deaton is a kanima?”), he tells Stiles to cut it out. As a last ditch effort, Stiles tells Cora to change, but she passes out right before she can.

Teen Wolf Melissa Sheriff The Girl Who Knew Too Much

Allison goes after her father, convinced he’s the one that is killing everyone. Isaac doesn’t think it’s a good idea, but follows her anyway. They see the Darach, and it’s then that her father comes out and shoots at it. But the Darach escapes.

At the rehearsal, Ethan tells Danny that if anything happens, he’s to find him. Lydia tells Scott that she’s going to stop fighting the feeling, and maybe she’ll be able to save someone in time. Meanwhile, Derek is with Cora in the hospital. Something seems to be very wrong with her.

Lydia gets a text from Aiden to meet her, and she leaves reluctantly. However, when she reaches the classroom, Jennifer is there waiting, and hits her over the head.

As Jennifer plans to kill Lydia, Lydia screams and we finally find out what she is: A banshee.

Back in the concert hall, a piano wire kills a woman and everyone runs screaming. Back in the classroom, the sheriff points his gun at Jennifer, but she throws the knife at him and it lands in his shoulder. Scott shows up to fight Jennifer, but she’s just too strong for him.

As Stiles watches from the other side of the door, Jennifer takes the sheriff away and the episode ends.

First look at Zac Efron and others in Parkland

"Parkland", Peter Landesman's upcoming drama that recounts the events at Dallas' Parkland Hospital on the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated, has debuted its first official images via USA Today. One of the pics gives fans a glimpse of Zac Efron, the former Disney star who is tapped to play Dr. Charles 'Jim' Carrico who desperately tried to save JFK's life at that time.

In another snap, Efron is featured alongside Marcia Gay Harden who is introduced as the head nurse in the trauma room. Paul Giamatti who acts as the accidental witness Abraham Zapruder is seen filming the motorcade with his cam. Other images, meanwhile, unveil looks at Billy Bob Thornton as the head of Dallas' Secret Service office and Jeremy Strong as killer Lee Harvey Oswald.

Marcia Gay Harden as Doris Nelson and Zac Efron as Jim Carrico

To USA Today, Thornton describes his character, "The Secret Service had never lost a man, and they lost their man. He felt bound and determined to find out what happened immediately while he was going through the worst time in his life. He felt completely responsible."

Billy Bob Thornton as Forrest Sorrels

The "Armageddon" actor then gushes over Giamatti, who "looks so much like Zapruder that it just all seemed very, very real." He says, "You really forgot that you were making a movie for a moment."

Paul Giamatti as Abraham Zapruder

Landesman reveals he has been adamant about shooting key scenes in Dallas' Dealey Plaza. Of the pic that will hit theaters on September 20, he says, "This is a movie about the ground truth from the ground level."

Jeremy Strong as Lee Harvey Oswald

"What surprised me was the power and poignancy of those who survived that day and the three that followed - the heroism, the instincts and the pathos of those swept up in this tsunami. This is an event that happened to individuals."

'Pacific Rim' sequel could hinge on China

$
0
0

After defying its box office naysayers but failing to become an outright hit, Pacific Rim is making its way to China, where its reputation as a flop or a success could be cemented. According to The Wrap, the massive Chinese moviegoing market could tip the scales in favor or success and a potential sequel. If the Guillermo del Toro-directed epic can make just $50 million in China, BoxOffice.com editor-in-chief Phil Contrino believes Warner Bros. will open the door for del Toro to do a Pacific Rim 2.

In the film’s favor—according to Contrino—is its inclusion of Chinese heroes in the Jaeger Crimson Typhoon as well as the nation’s love of big robot movies. Notably, Transformers: Dark of the Moon brought in a mind-blowing $145 million there just two years ago, which contributed substantially to the film’s $771 million foreign gross. Contrino speculates Pacific Rim could ride that robot genre interest into at least a third of the box office Tranformers 3 raked in. But he notes there’s two issues standing in the pic’s way. One is that the three and a half week lag between Pacific Rim’s US and China release could mean movie piracy will have already have substantially eaten away at the film’s prospective audience. And two is Fast and Furious 6, which just opened there with a hardy $24 million. Will Vin Diesel and his car-lovin’ crew beat back Idris Elba’s Jaeger-driving team? It’s a cinema showdown too close to call right now. (But that right there is a movie I’d like to see!)

Having cost a whopping $190 million to make, it was fitting that a recurring tag line for the massive monster vs. battle bot adventure Pacific Rim was “Go big or go extinct.” But without an A-list star or an established franchise audience to build from, the original actioner suffered from terrible tracking numbers going into its opening weekend. Still del Toro, wasn’t worried. And soon came a surge in midnight ticket sales, promising a winning weekend. But that promise didn’t pay out and Pacific Rim earned $38 million in its opening weekend, which put it at the #3 spot behind Despicable Me 2 and Grown Ups 2.

To date, the film has earned an unremarkable $84 million in the US, but with $140 million overseas there is a good chance China could save Pacific Rim from flopping. If the country’s cinema fans fall in with the rest of the Asian market, the movie should do well. Pacific Rim has already made $17 million in Korea and almost $9 million in Taiwan. With openings coming in Japan and Brazil, the feature might be on track for $300 million in foreign grosses. And that figure could well inspire Warner Bros. to suit up for more Kaiju versus Jaeger battles, though we’d bet with a tighter budget.

And just because I find this shocking: Grown Ups 2--which somehow cost $80 million to make—has already taken in $101 million domestically. America, this is why we can’t have nice things.

Yet More Reshoots For Marvel’s Troubled ‘Thor: The Dark World’

$
0
0

While we were treated to a Marvel-ous introduction by Tom Hiddleston for the latest THOR: THE DARK WORLD footage over at San Diego Comic Con, the lack of cast and crew panel spoke volumes of the fears for the demigod’s return. It’s well known there are serious problems behind-the-scenes that initially began once GAME OF THRONES regular director Alan Taylor took over the late reins from original choice Patty Jenkins. Since then, Taylor and Marvel chief Kevin Feige have been butting heads over the finished film’s running time with Taylor’s vision coming in at 150 minutes, while Feige is adamant he’s contracted for a cut no longer than 120 minutes. Hemsworth was also unhappy with his contracted paycheck despite the success of the first film and his AVENGERS appearance.

A mediator was also rumoured to have been brought in to broker a compromise with that shorter run time allowing the studio more screenings upon release, hence more money but at what cost to the director artistic vision? Music composer Carter Burwell was also forced to leave the project over creative differences, this despite his name appearing on the first official poster. Red faces all round. Now stunning co-stars Kat Dennings and Jaimie Alexander have confirmed more reshoots are underway. While this is not uncommon for pick-up shots, to go with the set already organised and completed months after wrapping, it proves all is not well. What is perhaps most worrying is that the film is set for release in just over three months!

Marvel Studios intergalactic comic-book sequel THOR: THE DARK WORLD will (hopefully) see Chris Hemsworth’s hammer-swinging superhero battle Christopher Eccleston’s evil Malekith and his army of Dark Elves. He’ll also be reunited with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and fellow Earth pals Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård), who’ll help out in defeating these evildoers.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD co-stars Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. It’s expected in cinemas 8th November.

Benedict Cumberbatch is a "sex god." It's just a scientific* fact.

$

The Sherlock and Star Trek star has been branded an unlikely pin-up. But is he in fact, like a fine wine, a taste you must acquire? A crush you’ll feel ever so smug for having? Body language experts* Jo Hemmings and Judi James talk to RadioTimes.com.

Have you caught the Benedict Cumberbatch bug or not sure what all the fuss is about when it comes to the Sherlock and Star Trek star? Whether you’re a so-called 'Cumberbitch', 'Cumberbunnie', 'Cumberperson' or simply ask 'Cumber Who?' there’s no denying his popularity.

Behavioural Psychologist Jo Hemmings and body language and behaviour expert Judi James tell RadioTimes.com how Cumberbatch's body language and facial expressions give us clues as to why he’s so popular…

JH: “Whether he’s playing Sherlock Holmes, another role or just being himself, Cumberbatch’s body language is guarded, yet rich in expression. No extraneous flamboyant gestures for this man. Every move he makes and every look he gives seem direct and to the point.”

JJ: “Cumberbatch was a taste you had to acquire. I think acquiring him as a taste makes you feel just a little bit superior. It’s like drinking a fine wine or eating a piece of Stilton. It might not be great at first but after a while you feel immensely smart and superior that you do actually prefer him.”

JH: “His gestures and facial expressions are both purposeful and powerful. That combined with his strong and intriguing (almost asexual features) and deep, purring, authoritative voice make him a sex god– especially in a world seemingly filled of shallow and pretty boy band types.”

JJ: “Cumberbatch’s features are just of a completely unusual cast and set. None of his features taken separately should be attractive, and put together initially they’re not handsome, but then they are deeply attractive. You’d actually probably be looking at him thinking ‘what an unusual face’ and then you’d make your own mind up about whether you think it’s attractive or not. It’s a bit like finding that one-off unusual designer outfit.

JH: “There’s seeming conflict in his body language – in many of his roles, especially Holmes, he often seems careless with his manners, cold and lacking compassion. Yet there is a controlled calmness in his body language and facial expressions, tinged with a little mystique, humour and self-deprecation.”

JJ: “He does play massively intellectual characters, which helps with the charisma. I mean god only know what he’s like in real life. I think we imagine that he’s hugely intellectual, which would add to his alpha credentials. With the Sherlock and Star Trek characters, I think they’re almost like grown-up versions of Robert Pattinson’s character in the Twilight series, Edward Cullen [LOL]. His characters have this remote, almost cold quality about them- almost non-sexual – and it makes women walk towards them and try and seduce them. We tend to desire the unattainable.”

JH: “Getting to know Benedict would be like unlocking a series of doors and finding an unexpected surprise behind each. Which makes him unpredictable and potentially wild when unleashed – another very sexy trait.”

JJ: “One you’ve realised how gorgeous and adorable he is, I think whatever role he plays it doesn’t matter because he also happens to be a good actor. I think he’ll always have a very similar following.”

JH: “This is a man who seems to be in control and he knows it. That level of self-assured power has always been attractive in a man.”

JJ: “He’s also got a very nice voice and I think that’s underestimated as an attraction. There’s something lovely about the not regularly attractive face with a very deep, intellectual alpha male voice that is fabulous.”

Panic! At The Disco Drummer Reveals Struggle with Addiction

Panic! at the Disco drummer Spencer Smith recently took to the band's website to reveal a multi-year struggle with narcotics and drug addiction.

A Message from Spencer

For the past 4 and a half years I’ve been battling addiction. Well, to be honest, I’ve really been battling it for the last two years. Those first 2 and a half years were spent in a place where I thought I had finally found the correct dosage of my personally prescribed medicine to feel “normal"…..In reality, I was mostly stumbling through my life hoping no one noticed I was high.

Growing up I never used drugs or alcohol. I smoked weed and had my first drink in the same night when I was 19. I loved it, and from that point on I made sure to make up for all those years I had spent abstaining. I’d think to myself… “What have I been doing? This is it! This is what I’ve needed". I didn’t know it then, but it would be the identical reaction to the way I felt while using that would later lead my drug use dominating my life. For the first few years, my life in a band afforded me the ability to maintain a drinking habit that wouldn’t have lasted a week at a day job. Being on tour left me with a very distorted view of what drinking habits are considered “normal". But, unlike most of the other musicians I spent time with on tour, when I got home my drinking increased. My anxiety and depression became much worse, and I used alcohol to attempt to numb it. It can be a shock to the system when you go from being on tour for 18 months, almost never being alone, always having somewhere to be and a show to play, to waking up alone having no clue what your gonna do for months on end. Now, if that sounds like it should be on the top of the list of first world problems, you’re right. No one deserves any sympathy for having too much free time. But for someone like me, an addict and alcoholic, free time can be dangerous. I need structure, and when I don’t put it in place for myself, I suffer the consequences.

Then, a little over 2 years ago, something traumatic happened in regards to the health of a loved one. It was around this time that I started taking Vicodin and Xanax on a daily basis. It was an intoxicating mix. At the time, I honestly thought that I had figured it all out. That I could self medicate my way to always being happy and never having to deal with any underlying issues causing my depression. I quickly became a serious addict. As crazy as it seems to me now, when I was high, I felt like the person I wanted to be. I liked myself, and I thought that everyone else must like me more too. I’d become so used to functioning when I was drinking and taking pills that, in my mind, everyone else must think I’m not only acting “normal", but happy! outgoing! and content. On tour, It became a balancing act between taking enough so I didn’t start feeling withdrawal symptoms and not taking too much that I couldn’t function.

When we got off the tour we were doing for our last record, I slipped further into my addiction. With a lot more alone time and no worry of being presentable at an interview or a meet & greet, my life began to revolve around my addiction. Wake up: Take a pill to have the energy to get out of bed. Leaving the house: Make sure I have enough pills to last till I get back. I had back up pills in my car, my backpack, all over the place incase something happened to the ones I had on me. I couldn’t go more than 8 hours without feeling painkiller withdrawals. I was taking a dangerous amount of pills while drinking to chase that high, and just like with any other substance, the higher the high is, the lower the low is. What started out as a way for me to numb anxiety and depression had become the major cause of it.

Last fall, after months of trying to quit and only making it 2 or 3 weeks, I entered treatment. I was extremely lucky to have the support of my family, bandmates, friends and my girlfriend. I’ve met too many people who have lost everything and burned every bridge they have due to their addiction. I can honestly say that without the love and support of those closest to me, I wouldn’t be here, sober, and able to write this today. The thought of putting this on paper and out into the world is scary. Since I’m still so fresh in my recovery, I was questioning whether or not I should. But, as anyone who has dealt with this personally knows, recovery is not possible without honesty. I spent years hiding and lying about my addiction. A huge weight was lifted from me when I could look at my friends, family and band in the eye and tell them what was really going on. It didn’t feel like I had some sort of double life anymore. I don’t want that feeling in any aspect of my life again.

Wow, now that I’ve put this down all my nerves have gonna away and it just feels freeing. My goal in releasing this is to try and relate to anyone who has experienced addiction personally or with a loved one, and to be honest with everyone else. To let people know that anxiety, depression, and addiction are not picky. They plague people of all ages from all walks of life. But, you can recover!! So, please seek help if you’re suffering personally, and urge anyone you know to get help if they are suffering. It gets better one day at a time.

Looking forward to seeing all of you on tour,
Spencer

Plot Synopsis (Kind Of) Revealed for Johnny Depp's 'Transcendence'

With all of the hype surrounding Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Interstellar (which is currently in production and will star Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain), it’s easy to forget that the acclaimed director has another sci-fi thriller currently in development.

Though Nolan will only be serving as the producer, his director of photography for The Dark Knight trilogy, Wally Pfister, is currently directing Transcendence, a similarly themed film starring Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman. Like most Nolan-related projects, plot details have been kept quiet for both films…that is, until now.

Yesterday, ScreenCrush delivered the first official synopsis of Transcendence, revealing details about Depp’s character, Will Caster.

“Will Caster, forefather of A.I., has his consciousness uploaded onto the internet.

Once there, is it really Will who is interacting with humanity in order to make things better, or a darker sinister clone bent on the termination of the world as we know it?"

At this point, what we do know about the film is that Depp will play Caster and actress Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Prestige) will play his wife, with Paul Bettany (Iron Man, The Avengers) as another scientist on Caster’s team.

Transcendence is set for a theatrical release date of April 18, 2014.

Ryan Gosling Sex Tape: Desired by Women Everywhere

They may have seen him shirtless, but women now want to see a lot more.

In a new survey conducted by Vivid Entertainment and XCritic (dot) com, Ryan Gosling was named the actor most respondents want to see in a sex tape.

Which makes sense, considering Gosling was also named the most f-ckable male star in a separate online poll a few months ago.

Gosling earned the naked distinction by winning 21.6 percent of the vote.

He was followed by Brad Pitt with 17.2 percent... Channing Tatum at 15.6 percent... and Matthew McConaughey and Johnny Depp, both with 12.7 percent.

Somehow, Robert Pattinson didn't even break double digits.

In April, Jennifer Lawrence won the same survey on the female side, making it clear that a Gosling/Lawrence amateur porn would even put the Farrah Abraham sex tape to shame in the sales department.

The only question: What would we call it? The Horny Hungry Games? The Naughty Notebook?
