'We Can't Stop" A RihJect

0

Miley-Cyrus-Rihanna-Selena-Gomez

Every record that soundtracks your Friday night out is more than likely written by songwriting hitmen Rock City.

Real-life brothers Timothy and Teron Thomas dipped their pens into chartmaking history when they first scribed for Akon in 2005, making a cool $5,000 for the song “The Ring.” Soon, the Virgin Islands-bred tagteam were getting calls from the likes of Rihanna, Ashley Simpson and Jennifer Hudson, extending their cheese well into today’s turnt up preferences, and they’ve had no problems adapting with the times.

When it comes to the strip club-glorifying “Pour It Up” from Rih, Timothy doesn’t brag that the record only took 10 minutes to write but explains it from a genuine sense of habitual talent. “We don’t write anything down. It’s really all just natural for us,” says Teron. ”When we did “Pour It Up” (producer) Mike WiLL [Made It] pulls the beat and me and Timothy are going back and forth on ideas. He says, ‘Yo guys, I’m going to run to the corner shop. I want to get some drinks and some snacks and I’m going to come right back.” He went for five or 10 minutes and he came back and the song was done.”

Making it rain may be second nature for the Bajan beauty, whose Instagram photo map is decked out with pole-dancing adoration, but for the Thomases, it was a chance to switch up the game’s club banger formula. “We knew it was going to be big because it was very original. For Rihanna to do a record that sounds so ratchet, being a huge pop star, it was going to change the game,” Timothy says. “Superstars are the ones that set the tone of what the music is then what happens is the game shifts and now everybody makes records like that. Everybody wants a record like that.”

Another female who flipped the script on her catalog was Miley Cyrus, who recently broke her musical fast to release “We Can’t Stop,” the lead single off her forthcoming album and first project since 2010′s Can’t Be Tamed. While Maxim’s hottest girl of the year admitted to wanting to lip lock with Rih if the opportunity ever arose, it comes as no surprise that the Mike WiLL-produced cut was originally intended for Cyrus’ girl crush.

“We originally wrote ["We Can't Stop"] for Rihanna and we wounded up giving it to Miley,” Timothy reveals. ”We felt like this could be somebody’s first single. We knew it wasn’t going to be Rihanna’s because at the time she already had “Diamonds.” We didn’t know who to give it to and Mike WILL was like ‘I’m in with Miley. I want to play it for her because I think this will be dope for her.’ We said okay let’s do.”

Less than a year later, the former Disney starlet is now singing about “dancing with Molly” (though the songwriting brothers say it’s really “dancing with Miley”) and “doing lines in the bathroom,” an explicit growth spurt on wax. But it’s all a part of a calculated plan for the Timothy and Teron who plan to stay ahead of the curve lyrically.

“In the music business, you got to be five years ahead because think on this: If I record today, they’re not going to put it out until three months later,” Teron explains. “Because of technology things get played out really fast. You have to be like ‘What’s the next thing?’ That’s why when me and my brother do songs, especially in the chorus, we try to make it something you don’t mind saying for a long time.” – (@adelleplaton)

Big Sean speaks on working with Eminem

Big Sean recently spoke with MTV News about his time working with Eminem in the studio.

Remember back in April when a picture of Big Sean and Eminem in the studio had surfaced and it had the internet buzzing? Well, not much was heard about their collab after that until today when Big Sean spoke with MTV News about that time working with Eminem.

Big Sean sat down with MTV News and briefly spoke about his studio session with Eminem. Sean stated that he wasn't sure where the song will end up, but that it will be a "Detroit Classic". When asked about his experience with the Detroit legend, Sean stated,

“We talked for a few hours before we even worked on music. I was telling him my stories about how we were performing all around downtown Detroit and [it turned out that] he was performing in the same places. It was funny because every story I told him about how I lost a lot of friends, relationships and girls…and [how I've] made new friends, he was like, ‘Man, it’s crazy, because every story you telling me, I got the exact same story just in a different way. Real G’s…similar tales.”

Britney Spears reminds us why she's the indesputable Princess of Pop

Britney Spears reminded us why she is the indisputable Princess of Pop (and has the most covetable abs ever) on Thursday with a throwback photo from her 2004 Onyx Hotel Tour.

Spears posted the sexy photo to Instagram on Thursday with the hashtag #TBT. In the shot, the "If You Seek Amy" star wears pink-and-black lace lingerie paired with a garter and stockings. It takes some skill to sing and dance in such a skimpy outfit and still look that good. She told her followers the scintillating get-up -- which she wore while performing "Outrageous" off her "In The Zone" album -- is one of her favorite tour outfits to date.

The 31-year-old has been working hard to get ready for her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood, set to kick off in the fall. She told "Extra" host Mario Lopez that she has been doing yoga to get in shape and has enlisted the help of two separate trainers to keep things interesting. "I'm excited, I'm stoked," she said. "I haven't done a show in a really long time so it'll be a lot of fun."

Maybe Brit Brit should consider bringing this ensemble back into rotation for her upcoming gig. Lingerie definitely makes for the perfect Sin City attire.

It seems like photos of fast-food employees defiling food is becoming a trend.

Less than two weeks after a photo surfaced of a Taco Bell employee licking a stack of taco shells, a photo appeared on Reddit Wednesday that supposedly shows a Wendy's employee enjoying a Frosty — right from the spout.

The name of the employee and location of the Wendy's franchise is unknown.

We called Wendy's for a comment but haven't heard back yet.

The Taco Bell employee who licked the taco shells was identified and fired.

Tyler Hoechlin and Brittany Snow Prefer to Keep Relationship Private

0

Teen Wolf actor Tyler Hoechlin and girlfriend Brittany Snow may have made their official red carpet debut as a couple for the Hollywood premiere of her TV movie Call Me Crazy: A Five Film in late April, but this Hollywood couple prefers to keep their private life under wraps.

Tyler, 25, and Brittany, 27, have been friends for years and say it's hard to have a relationship in a paparazzi-laden place like Hollywood. "In Los Angeles, it's impossible to do anything without people noticing. We definitely did not make a conscious effort to make our relationship public and we intend to keep it that way," Tyler said. "We're pretty much happy now, but I think it's important as actors or musicians to keep that part of our lives private."

In fact, when asked what the most romantic thing he's done for the Pitch Perfect actress, he says, "Fly away or take a trip somewhere. It's fun to get out of town and be away from the craziness of Los Angeles."

One of Brittany's biggest perks is getting to see the actor's chiseled body — trust us, when he turns into a werewolf of Teen Wolf, it's game over. "I did a pretty much no-carbs diet, and couldn't eat any of those foods that I enjoy, such as bread and pasta," he revealed. "That also meant no fast food and no sugar, which isn't always fun."

George Takei's Facebook Ghost Writer Apologizes

0
0

Hip, hilarious and oh-so-topical, George Takei has one of the most popular and beloved Facebook feeds on the social web. His compassion and humor have helped him smoothly reincarnate himself as a modern Internet sensation after starring as Hikaru Sulu on the 1960s Star Trek TV series.

That's why many of his loyal fans were dismayed to learn last week that their online hero is not, in fact, the clever one-man idea factory he seems to be on Facebook.

How'd the secret get out? An email that journalist Rick Polito sent to Jim Romenesko's media-watching blog. In the message, Polito said that he's been paid $10 per joke for producing content — some of which "got 10 likes per second for hours"— for Takei's Facebook page.

But now, it seems Polito is feeling guilty about his wake of shattered dreams and now-tainted jokes.

In a follow-up email on Wednesday, Polito told Romenesko that he's since apologized to Takei and the latter's husband, Brad, for inadvertently spilling the beans. From Romenesko's blog:

Polito tells Romenesko readers today: “I wrote an apology to George and Brad and their guy said he’d pass it on. I just said that I’d been looking for any mention of my book I could get and that I hadn’t meant to expose anything.”

He adds: “I don’t update his page. I’ve had no direct contact with George. I’ve sent him some memes, as have other comedian types and I was happy for the exposure.”

Takei, however, doesn't seem too fazed by the revelation that miffed some fans.

“What is this hoo-ha about my FB posts?” he told Wired in an email shortly after the story broke. “I have Brad, my husband, to help me and interns to assist. What is important is the reliability of my posts being there to greet my fans with a smile or a giggle every morning. That’s how we keep on growing.”

Do you care whether or not Takei gets outside help creating his super-popular Facebook posts? Let us know in the comments.

Kathryn Bigelow + others awarded honorary degree from AFI

0
0

It’s not every day that a graduation ceremony takes place in a venue as glamorous and storied as the El Capitan Theater, or that friends and family munch on popcorn and Skittles while “Pomp and Circumstance” booms from an ornate Wurlitzer organ during the processional. And it certainly isn’t every day that one graduates alongside the likes of Kathryn Bigelow, Jon Avnet and Anne V. Coates, all of whom were awarded honorary degrees June 12 at the AFI Conservatory Commencement Ceremony.

(L-R) AFI President Bob Gazzale, producer Jon Avnet, film editor Anne V. Coates, director/producer Kathryn Bigelow and Robert A. Daly, Chairman of AFI Board, attend the 2013 AFI Conservatory Commencement Ceremony at the El Capitan Theatre on June 12, 2013 in Hollywood, California.

“When you see ‘no,’ look it in the eyes and laugh at it, snarl at it and just don’t take it,” Avnet advised the graduating class. The “Wigs” producer went on to surprise audience members and AFI faculty alike with the story of how he’d attended but never graduated from the conservatory.

“I had absolutely no idea Jon quit the conservatory,” AFI’s Bob Gazzale said with wide eyes.

Jeremy Renner made a surprise appearance to present Kathryn Bigelow with her degree. The actor affirmed that he’d never be where he is today if not for Bigelow, who promptly lobbed back the very same gratitude and praise for Renner’s performance in “The Hurt Locker.”

“I really think I am standing here as the result of a profound and timeless performance by this man,” Bigelow said.

Fruitful rebellions seemed to be a theme of the ceremony. Bigelow told a story from her own years as a student, when she broke into the San Francisco Art Institute president’s office to stage a formative prank that posed the question of what is the difference between an original and a copy.

Likewise, when producer Stacey Sher introduced Coates, she told the story of how Coates encouraged her to rebel against Universal’s decision to cut a pivotal scene in Steven Soderbergh’s “Out of Sight.” Coates went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for the film.

“Anything that you get offered that may not seem so great at the time – take it,” Coates told the graduates, referring to her choice to edit “Lawrence of Arabia” despite only being offered “50 pounds for a couple of weeks.” That’s because, as Coates joked, “Once you cut a ‘Lawrence,’ you’ll be able to ask for any money.”

So cute.

Hugh Dancy Talks Hannibal Drama: ‘Things Aren’t Looking Great For Will!’

0
0

Will Hannibal‘s Will Graham eventually find love, or is he destined to go stag forever?

While the question is moot in the short run – at the moment, the guy’s a little busy recovering from brain-cooking encephalitis and being manipulated by a serial killer – it’s certainly something star Hugh Dancy is considering as his gory NBC drama reaches the end of its freshman season.

Can Dancy’s tormented profiler ever be a good, healthy match for Caroline Dhavernas‘ Alana? Here, the British actor gives TVLine his thoughts on the more-than-friendly pair and hints at what Dr. Lecter’s cooking up in the Season 1 finale (which airs Thursday, June 20 at 10/9c) and beyond.

TVLINE | What can you tease about the Will/Alana relationship in upcoming episodes? She’s repeatedly said they can’t have a romantic relationship, but they seem drawn to each other regardless.
Put it this way: Neither of us die this season. So there’s always a future. It was always interesting to me to imagine how the hell someone like Will Graham would have any kind of romantic life. That’s what we were scratching away [at]… Without giving too much away about how this season ends, the whole dynamic is going to be shifted next season. It’ll be interesting to see.

TVLINE | Will your character find out this season that Hannibal lied to him about the encephalitis? Will Will have any lasting effects from the illness?
I can’t tell you that! …There was a guy who was a profiler for the FBI, who was one of the people that [The Silence of the Lambs author] Thomas Harris talked to and based my character on, and also Jack’s character. And he did almost die of encephalitis. In the mind of [Hannibal creator] Bryan Fuller, that was absorbed and filtered and came out as what you see.

TVLINE | What can you tell us about this season’s finale?
It all comes to a head. We’re not going to leave you hanging.

TVLINE | Bryan Fuller has said next season will see the break-up of Will and Hannibal’s bromance.
[Laughs] Did he say that? It’s safe to say, we’re getting into that territory… Will is meant to be the most intelligent guy on the Earth and the best at his job. But he’s suffering. He hasn’t got all the cards in his hand. Whether that happens this season or next season, I don’t want to be too specific. But we’ll get there.

TVLINE | Will Will get a lot worse before he gets better?
[Laughs] Yes. He gets worse before he gets better.
