About: A Series of Unfortunate Events is a series of thirteen children's novels by Lemony Snicket (the pen name of American author Daniel Handler), which follows the turbulent lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire after their parents' death in a fire. The children are placed in the custody of a murderous relative, Count Olaf, who attempts to steal their inheritance and, later, orchestrates numerous disasters with the help of his accomplices as the children attempt to flee their clutches.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
About: Coraline's often wondered what's behind the locked door in the drawing room. It reveals only a brick wall when she finally opens it, but when she tries again later, a passageway mysteriously appears. Coraline is surprised to find a flat decorated exactly like her own, but strangely different. And when she finds her "other" parents in this alternate world, they are much more interesting despite their creepy black button eyes. When they make it clear, however, that they want to make her theirs forever, Coraline begins a nightmarish game to rescue her real parents and three children imprisoned in a mirror. With only a bored-through stone and an aloof cat to help, Coraline confronts this harrowing task of escaping these monstrous creatures.
Gaiman has delivered a wonderfully chilling novel, subtle yet intense on many levels. The line between pleasant and horrible is often blurred until what's what becomes suddenly clear, and like Coraline, we resist leaving this strange world until we're hooked. Unnerving drawings also cast a dark shadow over the book's eerie atmosphere, which is only heightened by simple, hair-raising text. Coraline is otherworldly storytelling at its best.

About: Mary Poppins is a series of eight children's books written by P. L. Travers and published over the period 1934 to 1988. Mary Shepard was the illustrator throughout the series. The books centre on magical English nanny Mary Poppins. She is blown by the East wind to Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, London, and into the Banks's household to care for their children. Encounters with pavement-painters and shopkeepers and various adventures follow until Mary Poppins abruptly leaves—i.e., "pops-out". Only the first three of the eight books feature Mary Poppins arriving and leaving. The later five books recount previously unrecorded adventures from her original three visits. As P. L. Travers explains in her introduction to Mary Poppins in the Park, "She cannot forever arrive and depart."

Audrey Hepburn’s co-star almost died in a botched abortion
Patricia Bosworth starred with Audrey Hepburn and Peter Finch in a "A Nun's Story."
Bosworth's describes in her memoirs, The Men in My Life: A Memoir of Love and Art.
“I knew that having an abortion would be a difficult experience," Bosworth, now 83, told NPR in an interview. "I didn't realize how difficult both physiologically and psychologically."
On very day she won the role, Bosworth found out she was pregnant.
Afraid she would lose the part, Bosworth went to an illegal abortionist and paid him $500 to terminate her unborn child.
“I had these pills I was supposed to take in case I might hemorrhage on the plane because of the altitude,” Bosworth explained, but she left the pills in an airport bathroom.
"We were flying on to Rome and I suddenly started to hemorrhage," Bosworth said. "I didn't know what to do. I got a sanitary pad from the stewardess and managed to stem the blood."
Landing in Rome, "we rushed to the studios to get costume fittings and I met Fred Zinnemann, the director. It was all very exciting."
The shooting was at a Salvator Mundi hospital which was run by nuns
"The minute she saw me she said, 'Oh, Miss Bosworth, you don't look well at all.' And I said, 'Oh, I'm fine, I'm fine.' She said, 'No, I really don't think you are well, I think you should go back to the hotel and rest. If you continue to feel badly, here's my phone number and you can phone me.'"
She ended up calling because of the fear she was dying.
"I got to the operating room and the doctor sewed me up, and he was very angry at me. He said, 'I've been working with actresses for too many years! Sewing them up! And you're a fool! Why didn't you take precautions!' He really chewed me out."

Season 8 filming is over today.
The network (ABC) and the studio (20th TV) need to close a new deal for next season.
The studio wants a two-season renewal but ABC only wants one year pick-up.
The studio needs to sign new contracts with the cast.
The main cast members (the parents) are currently paid $350,000 per episodes and are asking for huge pay raises.
The studio and the cast dont agree on the money.
ABC does not own Modern Family, so no profit from international sales and network deals, the network does not want to pay a certain cost.

During their latest concert k-pop girl group mamamoo used blackface to imitate bruno mars. They previously had a scandal for the use of a racial slur during a beyonce cover.
Update: they release an apology on facebook:
"We are extremely sorry for our insensitive actions and use of blackface in our video while portraying Bruno Mars. There is no excuse for what we did and there are not enough words to explain how regretful we are. We are heartbroken to have hurt our international K-Pop fans so deeply.
We love and care so much for all people of every race, sexuality, religion, and gender. We love all our fans and are so sorry to have hurt our fans in the black community.
We understand now why our actions were wrong and we never meant to do harm with our video. We were extremely ignorant of blackface and did not understand the implications of our actions.
We will be taking time to understand more about our international fans to ensure this never happens again. We hope that you will help to educate us on these and other issues so that we can become better people and better artists.

Hannah New talked to Fangirlish about Eleanor's progress so far. She mentions that Max, Eleanor's ex-girlfriend, is the only one that ever truly loved her (further evidence that her taste in men is awful), talks about their current relationship, switching sides to the British, Eleanor's grief that will "come back to bite her in the ass" and her belief that Black Sails will age well.
Talking to Monsters and Critics, Hannah New and Jessica Parker Kennedy discuss what they'll miss from filming, their characters' challenges and relationships, and Max's amazing wardrobe. Expectedly, Max's favourite pirate is Anne Bonny, and deservedly, Eleanor's is Flint. (Aka the platonic power couple we all deserve.)
Excerpts:
HN: [on Rogers' dark side] She sees a very pragmatic, intelligent naval officer who she admires for his tactical ability and for his determination, all the things I think Eleanor really wants for herself.
She just sees that in him. I don’t know how much she knows him, she knows one side of him.
I think one of the amazing things about Black Sails is that each character has different personas in different environments because that is what survival is about, that’s what adapting is about, so, without revealing too much I think she clings on to this ideal version of who Rogers is so that is how she can justify what she is doing.
Yeah, she is going to cling on to that for life and limb, and when [his true nature] becomes apparent, it is staggering for her. You can see that coming down the line. But it plays out in quite an unexpected way.JPK: All I can say is those two women, having been through what they have been through, the fact that they can still work side by side is pretty extraordinary and says a lot about their character and who they are as people.
They have been through such a rough time emotionally together and that they can put that all behind them — it’s not like they’re best friends and going to get manicures and pedicures together, but they have a mutual respect for each other and a trust for each other.
I think they feel a sense of safety and security with each other and that’s something they tend to use through this season, whether they are physically side-by-side or not.M&C: Jessica, Max was the clothes horse of the series, can you talk about the wardrobe?
JPK: They were all very historically sourced, because in Season 1 we were wearing underwear that they wore in the 17th century, I remember the very first time I put on a corset, I went into full panic mode. I felt so claustrophobic and I was begging her [costume designer] ‘no one is going to see this corset you have to put velcro or a zipper in’ and they were adamant that it had to be historically accurate and there was no room for any of that.
I could not get a zipper or velcro in my corset. It took two women to lace me up every morning while I held on to a table and I was very much like that scene in Titanic where Rose, the maid, is doing her up and her mom comes in a does the corset tighter.
It was very much that way when the head of costumes would come in and she would shoo the other people away and do my corset tighter. I was like ‘no!’.
It was extraordinary as every single dress was designed and hand made — I got really lucky, I think I wore 20 dresses over those four seasons while everyone else wore the same outfits over and over again. So I felt lucky and fortunate, it was like dress up.
By the end of it no one was really caring about using a really light fabric for dresses so she [Max] could breathe in 100 degrees weather, it was about what looked good so there was a lot of wool, there were a lot of layers and lot of heavy fabrics, and me going ‘there’s no way I can say this monologue today because I can’t breathe!’.
The TV show, in general, was such a great challenge. The costumes were so hard to wear, the wig just tremendously challenging.

Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon-El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end.
The first part of the musical crossover will take place on March 20 (in the final minutes), in the “Supergirl” episode titled “Star-Crossed.” The musical will continue on “The Flash” during “Duet,” which will air on March 21.
