- Thinks the movie is "bold, daring and deserving" but that some aspects deserve closer examination.
- Has a problem with how Keith (John Legend) is portrayed as a sellout, someone who turns jazz into pop, while Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) is portrayed as pure.
- Thinks it's distasteful to show the black character as the sellout and the white guy as the preserver of jazz.
- Worries about the message the movie sends to youth about romance. Says the film is traditional when it comes to romance in the sense that it's boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, and they're unable to stay together because their egos. Says this is normal and often happens, but that it shouldn't be romanticized - which he thinks makes the drama of the breakup more fulfilling than the actual prospect of romance.
- The movie implies we can't follow our dreams and have a decent relationship.
- Thinks the doomed-romance genre is childish and celebrates personal achievement without recognizing the consequences.
- Thinks the characters are "delightful and charming", thinks the music is "imaginative" and "addicting", but that when he watches the movie again he'll think to himself "what if?"

Kate Upton makes a return to Sports Illustrated to claim her spot for the third time on the cover. The 24-year-old model made an appearance last night on Jimmy Kimmel to reveal her three covers.

Kate first appeared in the swimsuit edition back in 2011 and was named Rookie of the Year. She went on to cover the magazine back to back in 2012 and 2013.

EEOC finds Hollywood is sexist and is purposefully discriminating against women directors

  • In late 2015 the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission began investigating Hollywood for discrimination against women directors (which is also when studios began to panic and began leaking news of women directors they were going to hire and why there will also be a small bump in the number of women directors with wide releases in 2017)

  • EEOC has concluded their investigation and found that every single major studio (including you Disney! Thought you were being slick with the Niki Caro/Mulan news yesterday!) has discriminated against women

  • The EEOC is now working with studios to try and reach a settlement

  • Part of the settlement would be them telling studios they MUST interview women (and possibly also men of colour) for directing jobs

  • People tried to get the DGA to institute a similar policy a few years ago and it was shot down

  • The EEOC might sue as a last resort

Synopsys

Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.


JEFFERSON PIERCE:  Male, African-American, late 30s to 50. Handsome, fit, with an athletic build. Former 3-time gold medal decathlon winner who is now principal of a high school in South Central Los Angeles. A father figure to his student and hero to the local community. JEFFERSON is charming, charismatic, smart, and has both warmth and humor. He is devoted to his two daughters and remains deeply in love with his ex-wife LYNN. He also has a great passion for justice and a quick temper that he has spent years learning how to control. Think Idris Elba. LEAD.

Lady Gaga made headlines last week when she headlined the Super Bowl LI Halftime show with an incredible 13-minute performance, which involved her dropping from the ceiling, flipping in the air, dancing and playing multiple instruments— all while singing her greatest hits LIVE.

Isolated audio of Gaga vocals has leaked online, proving what true fans knew all along — Gaga's got an amazing set of pipes. The mic feed spans the full length of her impressive six-song set.

Before performing, Gaga explained that she had to extensively train vocally and physically in order to perform for 13 minutes straight without loosing her breath and sounding off.

- Metallica says that they plan to "fast-forward to the next chapter" of working with Lady Gaga after the two acts teamed up at the Grammys

[The performance] was so effortless and organic and she just has the spirit of hard rock and metal flowing through her veins. It comes really easy for her. Kesha's legal team releases damning emails from Dr. Luke

  • In course papers filed this week, Kesha's legal team has included a trove of emails from Dr. Luke that paint him as a mentally abusive monster and prick.

  • These emails include ones that give credence to Kesha's claim that Dr. Luke mentally abused her into developing a debilitating eating disorder.

  • In one email between Dr. Luke and Kesha's manager, Luke wrote: "We were having a discussion on how she can be more disciplined with her diet. there have been many times we have all witnessed her breaking her diet plan. this perticular [sic] time — it happened to be diet coke and turkey while on an all juice fast."

  • Kesha's manager asked him to be more supportive of Kesha and that 'she's a human, not a machine', to which Luke replied "if she were a machine that would be way cool and we could do whatever we want."

  • In another email, Luke also revealed that "A list songwriters and producers are reluctant to give Kesha their songs because of her weight."

  • The two also griped over lyrics to Kesha's hit singles "Crazy Kids". Kesha didn't like a particular line in the song and wanted it changed but Luke replied "I don’t give a s–t what you want. If you were smart you would go in and sing it".

  • The two parties are scheduled to have a phone conversation with the judge to see how the case will proceed.

-He ended up going to Benny Blanco and Diplo's party
-This is the fourth year in a row this has happened to him
-Doesn't like that people bring bodyguards and entourages to these parties
-His example of a "nice" party was one he hosted where Bieber showed up and played pool with Twenty One Pilots.
