Yes, they spelled the girl's name wrong lmao

10 Must-Read Queer Books of 2016

1. Magda Szubanski - Reckoning
Magda Szubanski, the adored Australian Comedian and actress (Kath & Kim and Babe), just doesn't examine coming to terms with her sexuality but also her families traumatic history. Her father was part of the polish resistance in world war II. A beautifully written and dark memoir but never without Szubanski's much loved wit.

2. C.S. Pecat - Kings Rising
The conclusion to the Captive Prince trilogy. Honestly there's nothing much you can write about this unless you want spoilers so I'll just say these books seem to be big on Tumblr and the author dresses like she's about to attend an equestrian event.

6. Jill Dawson - The Crime Writer
Blurring the lines between fact and fiction, the novel's protagonist is a famous crime writer who retreats from the spotlight of her fans to a cottage in England. She maintains a clandestine affair with a married woman in London until a nosy journalist tracks her down.

7. Alexandre Vidal Porto - Sergio Y
The story of a former therapist, Armando, following his young transgender patient's journey to New York from Sao Paulo.

10. Jackie Kay - Trumpet
Though originally published in 1998, Trumpet was re-released as a picador classic this year. A jazz musician's biological sex is revealed post death by a newspaper.

Nightwing
-Could be DCs answer to Spiderman
-DC could use Nightwing to usher in a younger generation of superheroes

2. Birds of Prey
-With DC bringing Gotham City Sirens to the big screen, showcasing their heroic counterparts wouldnt be a bad idea
-Could help capitalize off of DCs successful Superhero Girl line

3.Legion of Superheroes
-Could be DCs version of Guardians of the Galaxy
-They have many members to choose from and help to see what the future of DC could look like
-They could introduce Supergirl/Superboy/Superman as part of the Legion

4. Batman Beyond
-Batman Beyond is already known to many of DCs audience
-With it being set in the future, it could bring a tantalizing view of the DC universe

5. Teen Titans/Young Justice
-Seems like a no brainer to capitalize on TT/YJ, especially in bringing in a younger audience
-TT used to be DCs top selling book and has plenty of interesting material to adapt

The Emoji Movie unlocks the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone. Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone’s user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression – except for Gene (T.J. Miller), an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. Determined to become “normal” like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 (James Corden) and the notorious code breaker emoji Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer). Artists Taking a Break in 2017

  • Adele: Another baby may take Adele from the spotlight. She told her fans she was "off to have a baby" in late November, but she plans to wait to the conclusion of her tour.

  • Demi Lovato: The recent Grammy nominee didn't seem too happy with the trajectory of her career. She tweeted in early October:

  • Ellie Goulding: She doesn't know when she will release her new album, but she's taking a break to focus on charity work. She's been working constantly for 7 years, apparently (I only heard of her last year with that 50 Shades song)

  • Taylor Swift: After a whirlwind of success from her fifth studio album 1989 and the highly successful tour (she was the highest paid musician of 2016), Swift claims she needs a break from the pressure of new music. However, she states she will still write songs in her downtime, and her hiatus could vanish just like that if her musical talents come through. This may already be the case as she has recently released a song with Zayn for 50 Shades Darker and she and Drake are in the studio together.

ONTD Roundup

2016’s biggest films that passed the Bechdel Test

$
0
0

To pass the Bechdel test the bar is set really low: the film needs at least two female characters (with a name) who talk to each other about something other than men.

The list of 2016 films includes the highest-grossing ones (10) as well as 10 of the most buzzed about films (lists at the source). Out of those, 11 pass the test: Finding Dory, Civil War, Zooptopia, Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Fantastic Beasts, Ghostbusters, Moana, Rogue One, X-Men Apocalypse, and Bad Moms.

In 13 of these films, the women portrayed are either independent women who rely on their own strength and intelligence to achieve their goals, and their well-being doesn't depend on being saved by a man.

Only 7 movies (Suicide Squad, Ghostbusters, Moana, Moonlight, Rogue One, Civil War, and Apocalypse) had women of color with speaking roles.

In all of 20 films, women were straight and cis, meaning no LGBT representation.

In a video message posted on his official Twitter account, the Portugal captain said: "This is for the children of Syria. We know that you have been suffering a lot. I am a very famous player, but you are the true heroes. Don't lose your hope. The world is with you. We care about you. I am with you."

Save the Children says Ronaldo's "generous donation" will fund food, clothing and medical care for families in Aleppo and across Syria.

"We are tremendously grateful for his life-changing support. Ronaldo is not only one of the world's most iconic sports figures, but he also has become a beacon of hope for millions of boys and girls worldwide -- and hope is something that Syria's children need now more than ever."

  • Little Mix are having a great Christmas week. Not only their second single Touch went from #23 to #4 on the Official Chart this week, but their fourth album Glory Days went back to #2 and received the Platinum certification for selling over 300k copies in the UK, just five weeks after being released.

  • Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki went from #2 to #3 this week, but they're still doing pretty well with their song.

  • In the US, they entered Billboard's Hot 100 at #52.

  • Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You is still everyone's favorite Christmas song, so it jumped to #5 this week.

  • Other updates: Clean Bandit remains #1 with Rockabye.

  • Zara Larsson is #6 with I Would Like.

  • Taylor Swift and Zayn are #19 with I Don't Wanna Live Forever.

  • After the most bizarre Twitter war between Little Mix and Rangers' stans this past week, Glad All Over by The Dave Clark Five ended up at #31. I hope Joe Garner stans are crying right now.
