Well for many of us we'll be staying inside during the nightmarish deluge of snow that will be hitting us all soon. How about staying inside with some great horror films set during the winter or in cold climates so we can pretend it's an evil alien keeping us indoors and not the fear of the roads or the assholes in supermarkets who think a foot of snow means they need to buy 50 gallons of milk and 40 loaves of bread.
1. The Thing
Not the 2011 prequel which is merely meh, you want the 80's horror classic that is one of the greatest horror films of all time. Gory but it never uses that as a crutch as it's utterly terrifying. A group of researchers at a remote outpost must deal with an alien menace that can take the form of any one of them at any time. Who can they trust if they can't trust themselves?
2. Black Christmas
NOT THE REMAKE. The original is one of the classic slashers of the original era of Halloween style horror. A killer escapes from confinement to attack a group of friends at their home during Christmas time. Not that gory but still scary as hell.
3. The Shining
Not just one of the greatest horror films of all time but one of the best films full stop of all time. Stephen King's classic tale of a family living alone in a massive hotel in the mountains during the winter is directed by Stanley Kubrick at his prime. This film creates an amazing sense of tension as we watch a man slowly go mad.
4. Frozen (LET IT GO, LET IT GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO)
A group of friends are trapped on a ski lift 20 feet up in the air for the weekend when they ski resort closes. What Open Water did for sharks and the ocean this movie does for ski trips and mountains.
5. I Saw The Devil
A cop tries to get revenge on the serial killer who kills his fiance. He kidnaps him and plans a tracking chip on him to stop any more killings from happening. Will this plan work? This gory as hell Korean horror/thiller is one of the best thrillers in a long while.
6. Let The Right One In
This well directed and written masterpiece is one of the best vampire films in years. This is the a story of friendship, bullying and horror set in the deep darkness of snowy Sweden. The American remake is fine as well but the original deserves a watch over it.
Now this final pick isn't exactly snowy horror but I think people here will love it anyway
Limetown is a fictional podcast in the same exact style as Serial. Love Serial but not liking the second season? Limetown is for you. It's not a true story, but it's still very compelling and creepy as hell
A reporter goes deeper into the mystery of Limetown, a town of over 300 scientists and their families in which every single person in the town disappears in one single night. All that is left are the buildings and the body of a man burnt at the stake.
