Riz Ahmed joins the Bourne sequel + talks about racism and diversity in interview

At this point we know that he will play a CIA tech specialist. According to sources he has always been the top choice for the role.

It's quite a long interview, covering a lot of aspects, e.g. he talks about growing up in Wembley, not fitting in at Oxford, the industry in the UK, islamophobia, British politics and class, conversations on race.

A fragment about the industry in the UK:

You know, we have an obsession with period drama here because it sells well, and it’s brand recognition, it’s a unique selling point, something we can do and sell to America, and that’s great. But I kind of feel like in the UK we are sitting on a multi-cultural goldmine, and we need to tap into those stories as well. I think we are deluded if we think Great Britain is a great power in the world anymore; we’re not. But we are a great cultural power. And I think that one of the strongest aspects that we have in our culture is our multiculturalism. It allows us to speak to the world. It’s quite a unique situation.

Everywhere I go around the world, any city I go to, I feel like nowhere touches London in this respect. People talk about New York being multicultural, and it’s great, but American cities are very segregated. People share space here in a way that they don’t in other cities. There are some places where this happens by accident, like Rio, where you have the favelas right next to the posh [parts] and the beach. But you have council estates in Chelsea here, you have Dulwich next to Brixton. That mixing of class and culture breeds amazing, unique stories, and it’s in our own interest to just tap into the goldmine that we are sat on.

After her golden years as an Olympic darling, Dr. Thomas went on to graduate from Stanford and become an orthopedic surgeon. But when she shifted from working in a hospital to private practice, her world fell apart.

"After only two years of private practice, while also going through a divorce, I managed to lose my entire nest egg," Dr. Thomas says in the video.

On Nov. 7, Dr. Thomas will be featured on OWN's Iyanla: Fix My Life, where spiritual coach Iyanla Vanzant confronts Dr. Thomas about her struggles."

"Her hard truths are that there is possibly some mental and emotional imbalances that have never been addressed," Vanzant tells ET.

Angelina Jolie presented with the Wall Street Journal Innovator Award

Writer, director, producer, humanitarian, actress and all around flaw-free goddess Angelina Jolie-Pitt was honored last night with the WSJ Magazine’s 2015 Entertainment/Film Innovator award.

She and Brad attended the event wearing matching black colored outfits. (shallow note: I’m pretty sure Angelina wore that same dress back in 2008, at the Curious Case of Benjamin Button premier in LA. Bless her humble heart <3)

There's a very insightful article from the WSJ which covers her past work as director/actress, her humanitarian work and her personal decision regarding health and family, among other topics. Some excerpts:

About the process of writing the BTS script:
Jolie- Pitt wrote the script, her first, not long after her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007. “I didn’t really know if I could make film and I didn’t think I could write film, so I wrote with a certain amount of freedom,” she says. “I gave myself the task that it would be about grief and how different people react to and process it.” In one scene, the local barkeep [...] talks to Pitt’s character, who is trying to restart a foundering writing career, about forcing himself to love his terminally ill wife enough to let her go. “That’s me speaking about my mother,” Jolie Pitt says. “I think maybe his character came from the purest place inside me.”

Brad on being directed by a woman:
For Pitt, By the Sea marked the first time he’d been directed by a woman, let alone his own wife, but he professes not to see the difference. The main thing, he says, is that the director has “the reins on the story and taste in the telling” so that the actors have “freedom to explore.” In his case, he adds, “My director has an elegant intuition for character. And anyway, I trust her with my life.”

Producer Graham King on Jolie’s professional approach:

Jolie Pitt’s attention to detail extends well beyond wardrobe. When she first approached him [King] about In the Land of Blood and Honey, she was “extraordinarily well prepared,” he says. “She turned up in my office with the location, photos, storyboards, casting information. The train was leaving the station. When she said, ‘I’d love for you to produce this movie,’ I was already hooked.” He also came to admire her “hands-on” approach. “Whether it’s interviews, photo shoots or directing films, she gets involved herself,” he says. “Angie does not send people into meetings. There’s no manager or agent, no PR. When I first met her I couldn’t believe how accessible she was.”

On how she sees the media's shallow reports about her:
No matter how many camps she visits, Jolie Pitt still gets plenty of reminders and questions about more trivial matters—everything from that vial of ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood around her neck (really just a smudge on a locket) to her weight (if the tabloids have it right, she’s so skinny she’s on her deathbed pretty much always). Asked if she’s sick of the dredging of old issues and made-up new ones, she says, simply, “I don’t mind. I mean, I think you just have to look at whether or not you can still be effective with what you want to do. And if anything gets in the way of that, then you have a problem. But I don’t.”
