Actress Jessica Chastain has bought her mom, who is a vegan chef, a food truck.
“The Help” star turned her mother on to vegan cuisine and now she’s a certified healthy chef with her own business in San Francisco.
Chastain says, “I’m vegan and she came to visit me and we spent two weeks together and so she just ate the food that I was eating and she felt so good she went back home and there weren’t any restaurants for her, so she was like, ‘Y’know what, I’m gonna open a restaurant,’ and she became a vegan chef and she’s really good.”
Chastain is following her mom into vegan cuisine after recently taking a two-week cooking course.
She adds, “There was a day of fish, which I just watched. It wasn’t a vegan cooking class; it was just a health food cooking class. I watched them make the fish.

Hello Internet, Today Monica Lewinsky opened a twitter account.

As reported by RadarOnline, Monica Lewinsky has recently made her first public speaking engagement in more than a decade at Forbes Under 30 Summit:

Invited to talk about the “scourge of harassment in the digital age,” Lewinsky, 41, opened her emotional speech with, “My name is Monica Lewinsky – though I’ve often been advised to change it."

“Overnight I went from being a completely private figure to a publicly humiliated one,” she said. “I was Patient Zero, the first person to have their reputation completely destroyed worldwide via the Internet.”

It should be no surprise that Monica's attempts at social media will fish out the trolls and misogynists as exampled in these tweets:

(Translation: Who are you going to suck off next????...Obama?!")

Monica's branch out into the public sphere again is for the purpose of combating cyber-bullying. Here is hoping she gives her twitter to a handler.

Iron Man is forever. RDJ isn't.

After weeks of back and forth, will he or won't he, Marvel finally announced Robert Downey Jr.'s next appearance as Tony Stark / Iron Man, playing counterpoint to Chris Evans' Steve Roger in the NSA-fueled Captain America 3.

But the most interesting part of the announcement is this behind-the-scenes blurb from Variety:

Originally, Marvel wanted to hire Downey for a small role, which would have required just three weeks of work. But Downey wanted Stark to have a more substantial role in the film's plot, which would give him more screen time and naturally a bigger payday. This angered Marvel Entertainment chief Ike Perlmutter, who ordered the screenwriters to write Iron Man out of the script entirely, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark. Tony Stark, likewise, is Robert Downey Jr. (with a dash of Elon Musk). There's no point arguing otherwise; so much of Stark the character feels like an extension of Downey's own. Marvel Studios has merged the two personalities into one inextricably linked entity, which is why Marvel is more likely to write the character out completely rather than recasting.

But while Robert Downey Jr. may always be Tony Stark, he won't always be Iron Man. And now that all of Marvel's movies are arguably one expansive story, the future of Iron Man is decidedly less certain — and at the same time, way more interesting.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man has been the catalyst for all of Marvel's film success. But the story has grown beyond him. It's a long-term concern but one Marvel Studios is no doubt contemplating — after all, it claims to be planning films through 2028.

Come to think of it, what's Don Cheadle up to for the next 14 years?

President Obama Evolves on Gay Marriage, Again

0
0

When President Obama finished “evolving” and announced, in May 2012, that he thought “same-sex couples should be able to get married,” he went farther than any previous president though not quite so far as many activists would have liked. In his interview with Robin Roberts, he said he thought the issue would, and should be, “worked out at the local level,” thus implicitly denying that marriage was a constitutionally protected right.

It would appear he has evolved again. In the Oct. 27 issue of The New Yorker, Jeffrey Toobin reveals that the president has dropped his federalist stance.

“Ultimately, I think the Equal Protection Clause does guarantee same-sex marriage in all fifty states,” the president told Mr. Toobin.

ANDREA FTW: ‘Walking Dead’ Actress Goes Undercover And Saves 55 Sex Slaves In Real Life

0

Laurie Holden, who played Andrea in The Walking Dead, doesn't just pretend to be a badass. She's the real deal in her role as a volunteer for Operation Underground Railroad, a human rights organization that targets sex traffickers. Recently she was part of a raid in Colombia involving 55 sex slaves.

This week's episode of Nightline follows the sting and shows Holden in all her real-life glory. The organization worked with Colombian authorities to stage a bachelor party with underage sex workers. When the traffickers agree on camera to to pimp out the underage girls and the money is exchanged, the cops move in to make the arrests.

During the ordeal Holden works with social workers to comfort the girls, who fear they're the ones who will be in trouble and that they won't be paid. Holden is clearly heartbroken when interviewed after the fact. But she should also be extremely proud of her work.

We have to tip Rick Grimes' sheriff hat.

Five (Two) Things We Learnt From 360's Spot On Q&A

0
0

Last night, renowned Aussie rapper Matt Colwell, aka 360, appeared for the first time on ABC's weekly panel program Q&A. The acclaimed rhymesmith made his debut alongside 'rock-star physicist' Brian Cox (who was a member of '90s pop-house act D:ream), actress Miranda Tapsell (The Sapphires), conductor and educator Richard Gill, and mathematician Nalini Joshi for a broad range of questions and answers that covered everything from time travel to the education curriculum, and 360 represented well with his contributions to the robust debate, enlightening viewers with far more than the simple confirmation that he scrubs up well in a suit...

he thinks the australian flag is a racist icon

May as well start with the big one — far and away the most controversial statement we heard from 360 last night was his admission that he equates the Australian flag with racism.

"“There are so many racist bigots in this country, and they’re everywhere," 360 began, responding to an audience member's question about whether it is time for Australia to demonstrate that it is not an inherently racist place. "I was talking to someone earlier about this, but the Australian flag, to me, has now become… I identify that with racism."

When host Tony Jones pressed him to elaborate, noting the contentious nature of the statement, 360 expanded:

"Like, on Australia Day, you see a bunch of dudes walking around with their tops off, and they’re getting on the drink and all that. They’ve got an Australian flag around their neck… I’ve seen it so many times, like, I’ve been in a taxi where we’ve pulled up because these dickheads have been walking across the road, and they just start yelling at the taxi driver, like, ‘Get out of the country! This is not your country!’, you know what I mean? And they’re wearing Australian flags! I’ve seen it so much, like, growing up, still today… it’s pathetic.”

hip-hop has a homophobia problem

As the topic of racism continued to dominate the panel, 360 made a brief comment introducing the topic of sexuality to the mix, on which Jones picked up and pressed for elaboration, pointing to the existing culture of homophobia in hip-hop and even citing a 360 lyric: "If the devil wears Prada, then the devil must be a f**got".

“I used to use homophobic slurs all the time, in battle rap, every day talking to my mates, and stuff like that," 360 explained. "And I was young; I was very ignorant. And then I got interviewed by a gay man, and he said to me, ‘Do you understand your power with kids and how much influence you have on these kids? And you’re saying a word like "f**got", and it teaches them that’s OK.'

"And, ever since then, that changed me. I think the only way you can beat ignorance is with education. And ever since then, I’ve realised the position that I was in — I was a role model for young kids, so I wanna be a positive one, you know? I don’t want to be a negative one. So that just changed everything for me after that. I realised I was ignorant; I realised that was stupid, but I grew up. I moved on."

South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been given five years in jail for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Judge Thokozile Masipa also gave Pistorius a three-year suspended sentence for a firearms charge.

The parents of Reeva Steenkamp told the BBC they were happy with the sentence and relieved the case was over. The defence said it expected Pistorius to serve about 10 months in prison.

Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide but cleared of murder.

Prosecutors had called for a minimum 10-year term, and the defence had argued for community service and house arrest.

Kerry Washington's Allure Editorial + Interview: Calls Sex Scenes "Awkward"

0
0

One reason the show sparks passionate interest is because of the steamy sex scenes between Olivia Pope and the married president of the United States (Tony Goldwyn). "They're hard to do. Sex scenes are always awkward," Washington says. "You're doing things that you're supposed to do with only certain people in your life. Because this is not your real partner in life, doing that is awkward. And then doing it in a room full of people is awkward."

Even discussing Goldwyn's obvious sex appeal is a minefield, Washington says. "Particularly with a show like ours, where people are so invested in the chemistry, you just learn to be careful, because people's real relationships in life are important. I so respect and admire his wife and him and their family, and he feels the same way about mine. And so you learn to be careful about how you say things."

In Washington's first major film, Save the Last Dance, she played a teen mother, and she knew that her first task was "to make sure the character wasn't a stereotype, but that she felt like a real person.... Especially for me, as a woman and as a person of color, I play these roles where many people in society may never think about that person." She sought out variety and range in her career. "I knew that there were going to be special challenges to being a woman of color as an actor." Of course, she says, "we have a different world now. But still"—a wry smile—"it's not as though we all live in a wonderland of inclusivity."

She looks super beautiful. <3

Matthew McConaughey doesn't want the Washington Redskins to change their name

0
0

Matthew McConaughey covers GQ magazine’s November 2014 issue.

Here’s what the 44-year-old Interstellar actor had to share with the mag:

On the Washington Redskins name:“What interests me is how quickly it got pushed into the social consciousness. We were all fine with it since the 1930s, and all of a sudden we go, ‘No, gotta change it’? It seems like when the first levee breaks, everybody gets on board. I love the emblem. I dig it. It gives me a little fire and some oomph. But now that it’s in the court of public opinion, it’s going to change. I wish it wouldn’t, but it will.”

On marrying his longtime love Camilla Alves:“I had to get to the point where I saw it as more than just the thing to do. I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn’t want it to be a destination; the fun is that we’re on the adventure together. And look, some of it had to do with her putting it on me. It took her going, ‘C’mon, Big Boy, Mr. Easygoing-We’ll- Get-to-It-When-We-Get-to-It. Either sh*t or get off the pot.’”

On whether he’s still friends with Lance Armstrong:“I like people who are great at what they do. At that time, we were two single men who were doing good in their careers and came from different places. To put my own emotions in front of this and go ‘You didn’t tell me the truth’ would be arrogant. And you know what? This is a friend. Who I know to be a good man. If there was an apology, it was said and I heard it.”

Toys R Us puts Breaking Bad action figures on 'indefinite sabbatical' after outcry

0
0

Toys R Us announced Tuesday that it will pull “Breaking Bad” toys from all its shelves after more than 8,500 people signed an online petition started by an outraged Florida mother.

"It's One Small step!!!! Let's keep this up so Toys R Us stores all over will make this right decision!!!!," Susan Schrivjer of Fort Myers said on the petition after it was announced the toys would be pulled.

Schrivjer said the adult, dark themes of the show, along with the perceived drug paraphernalia that comes with the toys, is inappropriate for a children’s toy store. Toys R Us had previously said the toys were kept in an area for older children, and clearly labeled for those 15 and older.

In its official statement about the removal, Toys R Us directly quoted from a memorable line in the show: "Let's just say, the action figures have taken an 'indefinite sabbatical'," according to a Toys R Us statement. The company said it had no further comment.

Kris Jenner speaks on Kylie and Tyga dating

The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star called in to “On Air With Ryan Seacrest” on Tuesday (October 21) morning to talk about her new cookbook, “In The Kitchen With Kris.” Before long, however, she had to take a sidebar into the gossip headlines.

“Kylie isn’t dating anybody,” she said. “This whole little group of kids who have been around forever… They kind of travel as a pack, and they enjoy each other’s company.

“We all live in the same neighborhood. Tyga used to live across the street for a long time, and now he lives next door to Khloe. Everyone’s always around, and, with the way I cook, they’re not leaving.”
The “40 Mill” MC wasn’t as diplomatic this past weekend when he lashed out at an Instagram follower named @smartchik78 for calling him a “nasty a-pedophile” on a post of him and his son, King Cairo Stevenson.

“smartchik78 why u sound so hateful,” he wrote back. “U don’t know s—- bout my life but the fake s—- u read online. Worry about your sad boring life. U wish u can have a baby by a n—- like me and live this lifestyle.let me guess no one wants u or ever attempted to spoil u and give u the world like I do for mines.
