Rolling Stone Review: "Tony & Gaga Transcend Generations and Genres"

0
0

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett might seem like an unlikely pair, but the video for their version of the jazz standard, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" proves the diva and the crooner exude a unique, adorable brand of musical chemistry.

Comprising footage from the pair's recording sessions, Gaga struts her stuff in a bevy of various outfits and hairstyles, belting out her verses, before Bennett swings through, sounding dapper as ever. The two join forces for the track's final chorus for a peculiar, yet potent blend of styles that transcends generations and genres.

Bennett and Gaga's duets album, Cheek to Cheek, will see release on deluxe and standard editions on September 23rd. The pair's relationship blossomed after Bennett heard Gaga sing Nat King Cole's "Orange Colored Sky" in 2011 and asked her to sing alongside him on a recording of "Lady is a Tramp," which ended up on his Duets II album. Since then, Gaga and Bennett have recorded a number of tracks from the "great American songbook," including tunes written or co-written by Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Accompanying Cheek to Cheek will be two TV specials: Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!, a concert special recorded at the Rose Theater at Lincoln Center that will air October 24th at 9 p.m. on PBS; and Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek To Cheek, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album, which airs on HSN on September 13th.

In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Bennett explained what drew him to Gaga, and why their work together truly shines: "She phrases like I phrase. She's a wonderful singer. Everybody knows and loves her very much. I think when they hear this album that we're doing, they're going to say, 'We had no idea that she sings that well.'"

And the next Bachelor is.....

0
0

Get ready for a nice little roll in the hay, ladies!
The next Bachelor has been chosen, and it is....Chris Soules (aka Farmer Chris!), the fan favorite Iowan farmer from Andi Dorfman's season, E! News has learned. ABC isn't commenting, however sources who work on the show tell us that Chris beat out former Bachelorette star Arie Luyendyk Jr. to be the ABC hit franchise's next leading man.

We are told that Chris will appear on Good Morning America tomorrow to confirm the news.
According to insiders, Arie was recently informed that he would not be the next Bachelor, and he soon took to Twitter to break the news to his supporters. "I'm not the Bachelor, have fun on the farm people," he wrote, before adding, "Thanks for the kind words everyone. It wasn't meant to be, and I'm okay with it. Happy I can move forward."

Arie appeared to just be speculating that the chosen man would be Chris, but a source connected to the show confirms that it is indeed Chris.

We caught up with Chris at the taping of the Men Tell All special, where he said he'd definitely be interested in becoming the next Bachelor, so his new gig doesn't come as much a surprise.

"How could you not be interested in that? Especially for me, in the situation I'm in, I live in a small town. it's kind of part of the reason I'm here," he told us. "I'm 32 and I haven't really met the person I'm looking for and it's hard to meet people…in a small town. So that alone makes it something I would be interested in."

However, Chris' road to becoming the next Bach wasn't an easy one as former contestant Arie, the runner-up on Emily Maynard's Bachelorette season, was also being considered. We asked readers who they would prefer to see as the Bachelor and 71 percent chose Chris over Arie.
Before making their final decision, a source told us producers were "looking for the anti-Juan Pablo...definitely want a really nice guy this time around."

Are you excited to see Chris as the next Bachelor? Weigh in in the comments below!

Iggy Azalea Blames J.Low For Stage Fall: 'You're Bad Luck!'

Jennifer Lopez may be looking phenomenal these days, but is she the bearer of bad luck?

Iggy Azalea sure thinks so. While walking the Video Music Awards red carpet on Sunday, the "Fancy" rapper told Entertainment Tonight that Jenny from the Block is to blame for her recent stage tumble.

Azalea recalled performing a show in Chicago with J.Lo when her microphone wasn't turned on. "I said, 'at least I didn’t fall over,' and she said 'It'll happen to you one day,'" Iggy recalled. "And then I invited her to watch that show and I fell off the stage! I was like, 'You’re bad luck!'"

Iggy was on her game for her VMA performance of "Black Widow," even with Lopez taking the stage to introduce the performance.

Neil Young Files for Divorce From Pegi Young, Wife of 36 Years

The couple were musical collaborators and co-founded the Bridge School in 1986

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Neil Young has filed for divorce from Pegi Young, his wife of 36 years and frequent musical collaborator. A petition for dissolution of marriage was filed by Young in their hometown of San Mateo, California, on July 29th. A hearing is scheduled for December 12th. A rep for Neil Young had no comment.

Pegi is the inspiration for some of Young's most enduring love songs, including "Such a Woman,""Unknown Legend" and "Once an Angel." She began serving as his background singer in the 1990s, sharing the stage with him at the 1994 Academy Awards and numerous tours over the past 20 years. They last performed together at the Bridge School Benefit in October of 2013.

Neil first met Pegi when she was working as a waitress at a diner near his California ranch, a story he tells in the 1992 song "Unknown Legend.""I used to order just to watch her float across the floor," he sang. "She grew up in a small town/Never put her roots down."

Pegi has released three solo albums since 2007 and she's toured extensively on her own, occasionally with Neil on guitar. Inspired by the lack of educational opportunities for their son Ben, who suffers from cerebral palsy, they co-founded the Bridge School in 1986, which educates children with severe physical impairments. They raise funds for it every year with an all-star concert in Mountain View, California.

Neil recently wrapped up a European Crazy Horse tour and is slated to play American solo acoustic dates in October. Pegi just concluded a brief U.S. club tour. They were both slated to play Farm Aid in Raleigh, North Carolina, on September 13th, though Pegi's name was recently removed from the lineup.

So bummed. Something really bad must happen to get divorced after 36 years :-(

What we'll miss about 'Chelsea Lately'

The last episode of "Chelsea Lately" will air on Tuesday night.

In her seven-year run, Handler has made "Lately" the go-to place for fans wanting something a little tarter with their talk-show entertainment. Let Jimmy Fallon have the "nice" aura; Handler is just as soon exasperated with her show, her staff and even her guests as she is tickled.

At this point, who knows what she'll bring to her Netflix program, which -- given the on-demand nature of the service -- will almost certainly have a different format. Nevertheless, there's plenty about "Chelsea Lately" we hope carries over to Handler's next talk-show chapter.

Here are seven (5) things we'll miss in the meantime:
1. She regularly bit the hand that presented her.
Handler laughed and made fun of the same things the rest of us joke about, even when those things -- the Kardashians, Ryan Seacrest -- happened to share a network with her. She didn't care, which was classic Chelsea. Of course, E! probably didn't mind either, because any publicity is good publicity -- even mockery of Seacrest's stature.

tumblr_lolts14so21qlvxlho1_500

2. She was willing to make fun of herself, too.

Handler has been notably open about her louche, if exaggerated, private life. And she encourages needles from guests as well as the comedians who join her for the roundtable to discuss the news.

tumblr_lp5j4vRPLt1qg9pmho1_500

3. Those strange shower sketches.
It's hard to imagine David Letterman -- or even Stephen Colbert -- being willing to engage in argumentative sketches with the likes of Sandra Bullock and Conan O'Brien while standing naked in a shower. (Judging from the fuzzed-out naughty bits, there's a minimum of special effects involved. Incidentally, nice abs, Conan.) Seems like Handler would be a natural to mount a revival of "Steambath."

rs_400x225-130403202030-single-slap

5. Well, hello there, guest.
One of Handler's long-running jokes is that she sleeps with almost all her guests, which in the case of 50 Cent probably actually happened. But she was happy to flirt with almost everybody, men and women alike.

American Horror Story Cast: Freak Show Poster

Kathy Bates as the Bearded Lady. Michael Chiklis as the strong man. A two-headed Sarah Paulson. Sword eaters and oh so much more.

Ryan Murphy Talks Autobiographical Elements in Projects, How 'The Normal Heart' Ended Up on HBO, Emmy Nominations (Q&A)
That's just a hint of what's to come, judging from The Hollywood Reporter's exclusive cast art for American Horror Story: Freak Show (below). This is the first look at what co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have in store for the upcoming fourth season of the FX anthology series.

Season four of the FX anthology starts in Florida, circa 1952, and centers on a "troupe of curiosities" that arrives at the same time a dark entity emerges that that threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amid the dying world of the American carny experience."

Jessica Lange stars as Elsa Mars, a German expat managing one of the last remaining freak shows in the country. Emma Roberts is set as Maggie; Paulson is Bette and Dot Tattler; Bates is Effil Darling; Chiklis is Wendell Del Toredo; Angela Bassett is Desiere Dupree; and Evan Peters is Jimmy Darling. Frances Conroy and Gabourey Sidibe will also return to the cast, which includes newcomers Wes Bentley, Fargo's John Carroll Lynch as the central villain and The Normal Heart's Finn Wittrock as well as the world's smallest living woman, Jyoti Amge. Patti LaBelle will also appear in a four-episode arc, with Matt Bomer set for a guest stint.
"At every freak show, you have the tropes but there's some [that are] unique and weird," Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter about season four. "It's about something: It's about outcasts and how society at that time … true stories about circus performers who were cast aside. The story in many ways dovetails with Asylum, because they leave one era and you can see many of them in real life were put into Asylums. There's a great symmetry we've come up with that's rewarding."

Judging from the official Freak Show hashtag, the series will explore the "freak" in all of us as the German #WirSindAlleFreaks translates to "we are all freaks."
"It's darker than Coven; it feels very unique," Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter of Freak Show. "I directed the first one and I haven't done that since the very first one of season one. It feels like a Douglas Sirk movie, it's very 1952 presentational and then the horror is an unexpected jab. As opposed to last year, which was crazy camera work and comedy. This year feels different. The special ability cast that we have is amazing and I feel so thrilled because so many of them, it was their dream to be actors and they didn't have any opportunities. There's a great community. They feel part of something perhaps for the first time in their life and that's an amazing thing that I was really emotional about when I was directing them."
Check out the cast art, below, and hit the comments with your thoughts. Freak Show premieres Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. on FX.

Beyonce’s Dad Admits Jay Z Divorce Rumors Were ‘Trick’ To ‘Ignite The Tour’ !!!!

beyonce3
Are they or aren’t they? Beyonce and Jay Z seemed to put a summer of divorce rumors to rest on Sunday night with a family appearance with Blue Ivy at the MTV VMAs. Now, RadarOnline.com has learned, her father Mathew Knowles has spoken out with new claims that the whole scandal was a “Jedi mind trick” orchestrated to “ignite” ticket sales for the couple’s On The Run Tour!

Knowles made the explosive claims on the Roula & Ryan show on 104.1 KRBE in Houston earlier this week. Asked about the infamous elevator incident earlier this year, and continuing divorce rumors, Knowles — Beyonce’s former manager — was unequivocal about his opinion.

“I know, because we’ve done this. From experience, there’s a tour going on,” he said. “So you sometimes have to ignite that tour. It’s called a Jedi mind trick. The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot.” Incredulous, one of the hosts asked if it were truly possible that Beyonce, Jay Z, and Solange Knowles staged and leaked the tape of themselves arguing in an elevator at an after-party for the Met Ball in New York earlier this year.

He said, “All I know is the Jedi mind trick. Everyone’s talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200%!”

Knowles claims that despite the fact he has not managed Beyonce’s career for years, “We still talk every Sunday. She’s still the humble, generous person that she’s always been.”

Central Perk pop-up store coming to Manhattan

0
0

It’s been 20 years since Friends first hit the airwaves, and TV has yet to produce as iconic a coffee shop as the one where Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe, and—Joey, I think?—spent most of their days.

Now, fans can get a chance to feel like one of the gang, so long as they travel to New York City this autumn. Warner Bros. Television Group, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and Eight O’Clock Coffee are partnering to re-create the Central Perk coffeehouse at a pop-up location in downtown Manhattan this September, and there are plenty of reasons to check it out besides the free coffee.

Visitors to the decorated storefront will be able to take photos on the actual orange couch from the show, along with a myriad of signature props and a show-themed backdrop. Weekly performances will add some occasional musical flair—yes, they will play “Smelly Cat,” along with other tunes in the same vein as Phoebe’s improvised songs—along with special select appearances by James Michael Tyler, who played barista Gunther (whose hair is “brighter than the sun,” according to Rachel and basically anyone).

Fans can also expect daily giveaways, trivia contestants, and other various contests and merchandise behind the Central Perk counter throughout the month. Also, in conjunction with Friends’ anniversary, Eight O’Clock Coffee’s special Central Perk-themed blend will be available in stores across the country.

The pop-up Central Perk coffee bar will appear at 199 Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan, opening Wednesday, Sept. 17 and closing Saturday, Oct. 18. The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Bob Saget on Full House Revival: 'Not Everybody Would Want to Do It'

full-house-1024
There's no shortage of Full House fans eager to see the rumored sitcom revival make it to television.

The entirety of the cast, however, may be another story.

"Not everybody would want to do it. Maybe two-thirds of the cast would want to," Bob Saget, who played Danny Tanner on the 1987-1995 series, told PEOPLE in April while promoting his memoir, Dirty Daddy.

"John [Stamos] is such a good guy, and I think he would want it to happen in some way if it could. There's some stuff going on, I don't get involved in it, where people were trying to put some energy into it … [But] I don't think it will happen in a way that it would be everybody. "

'Sherlock' actor returning to 'Game of Thrones' for season 5

The Iron Bank is going to keep a close eye on its investment in Westeros.

Mark Gatiss is set to reprise his role as Tycho Nestoris, the world’s most fearsome banking executive, in the fifth season of HBO’s fantasy hit. The Sherlock co-creator, writer, producer and actor is expected back on the Thrones set in Croatia next week.

Gatiss made this Thrones debut last season in the episode “The Laws of Gods and Men” where his Braavosi bank team agreed to fund Stannis Baratheon‘s war effort to capture the Iron Throne from Lannister control (the Lannisters are in heavy debt to the Iron Bank, which will stealthily fund a debtor’s enemies if they are not repaid in a timely manner).

Also: Speaking of Thrones production in Croatia, earlier this week there were reports that a key outdoor scene from George R.R. Martin’s A Dance with Dragons focusing on Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister was running into production difficulties due to a conflict with a Dubrovnik church (I don’t recommend searching for this spoiler-filled news unless you have already read the book). At the HBO Emmy party Monday night, producers told me that the snag was “old news” and that a new location for the sequence has long been secured.

Idris Elba Talks About His (Not) Dick Again on Jimmy Kimmel

0
0

You know what the greatest thing about Idris Elba is? Feel free to all shout out ‘everything!’ in unison, but it’s actually that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and he doesn’t mind talking about his junk.

I think if the entire internet saw a photo of me in which it looked like my penis was enormous, I’d respond pretty much like Jon Hamm did, by being like ‘SHUT UP ABOUT MY DICK ALREADY.’ Although if it were me, I might take a few more precautions on set in the future like, oh, I don’t know, wearing another layer of underoos so that thing isn’t moving freely about the cabin, ready to silhouette itself against my pant leg the moment a photographer’s flash goes off.

But we are not all Jon Hamms. Some of us are Idris Elbas, in that when a photo like that comes out we respond to it in a much more jovial manner, that also allows us to keep talking about one of the most coveted undercarriages on the Planet Earth.

Idris already dashed our hopes once by revealing on Twitter that he’s not the anaconda we took him for, a tweet which you can see below nah im not doing extra work

But even after that hilariously self-aware response, Idris still had zero problem with Jimmy Kimmel bringing it up yet again when he was on the show the other night. He sticks with his story about the phallic phantom being a mic wire, which is disappointing, but with the amount of giggling and stuttering involved, you’ll forgive me if I‘m not won’t allow myself to be entirely convinced.

'Captain America' Director Hints at 'End' for Chris Evans Character?

0
0

The movie won’t be released for almost two years and isn’t even in production yet. That doesn't mean that the publicity machine for Marvel Studios' Captain America 3 isn't already working at full strength, with co-director Anthony Russo already hinting at what to expect in the Star-Spangled Avenger’s next solo outing.

“I can’t divulge who is going to be in the film, but I think fans are going to freak out when they hear about it,” Russo teased when talking to Movies.com. It’s possible he was referring to Hawkeye, who Jeremy Renner hinted would be making an appearance earlier this week, but Russo refused to name names.“We wanted to push the character forward into the modern age with The Winter Soldier, and we want to keep pushing the character forward. We always want to be true to who Captain America is, but we want to surprise people about where he can go and what he's capable of. That's about as specific as I can get about where we might take him,” he said.

Well, maybe he could get a little more specific. In a separate interview with MTV News, Russo was asked whether the third Captain America movie would follow the lead of Marvel’s third Iron Man and provide some sense of closure to the character. After saying that that was a “hard question to answer,” Russo added,“I will say this: yes, for satisfying storytelling, you want a beginning, middle and end. That’s the natural arc that we all thrive off of in narrative.”

So does this mean that Cap 3 could be the end of the road for Chris Evans’ hero? “The great thing about the Marvel universe, just like the publishing, it’s a very vast, inter-connected universe, where characters will have their rise and fall, so to speak, and hand off to other characters,” Russo said. “As the cinematic universe moves forward, you may start to see the cinematic universe adopt that same pattern.”

Cap handing off to another character…? Well, it’s happened multiple times in the comic books, with both the Falcon and Winter Soldier taking over the role of Captain America at times. With writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely both citing Ed Brubaker’s run on the comic series as inspiration, perhaps fans should prepare for the Winter Soldier to take over as Cap a couple years from now. After all, while Chris Evans will have two movies remaining on his Marvel contract after next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Winter Soldier Sebastian Stan will have seven movies left on his deal…

I don't like any talk of the end.
So, instead, what character appearance in Cap 3 would make you freak out?

A Martin Scorsese film about the Ramones is in the works

0
0
Following the death of iconic drummer Tommy Ramone, the owners of the Ramones’ estate have announced some big plans for the band’s legacy going forward, including a film directed by Martin Scorsese.

Billboard reports that other Ramones projects coming include a documentary, theatrical play, book, reissues, fashion and “music placement.”

Jeff Jampol, who manages the band’s estate, explains the documentary to Billboard: “The 40th anniversary of the Ramones is coming up in 2016, that’s when the first album came out. So we have a lot of projects leading up to that. We’re looking at a documentary on the Ramones, we just secured a ton of footage, much of which has never been seen before. It came from the Ramones on the road over the years in the Seventies and a little bit in the Eighties.”

On the book, he adds, “You’ll see a book coming, which is not a biographical book so much, but a story of the band’s formation and those first few records and that craziness that happened. It’ll be a combination of prose, photographs and memorabilia and posters, just kind of documenting the scene. The Ramones were the first punk band and they started the punk movement.”

So far, nothing more has been revealed about the film, other than the fact that director Martin Scorsese is attached. Read more from Billboard:

"The documentary is just one of several projects in the works. Among the others are a theatrical play, a book and a film, which already has Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese attached."
