Michael Muhney Explains Why He Was Fired From The Young And The Restless! On Tuesday Michael Muhney announced on Twitter he was fired from his uber-popular role as Adam Newman. Immediately, stunned fans and press went into soaphylactic shock. The devastating news delivered such a crushing blow that Y&R began trending on Twitter for the first time. The Mensa member's last day of shooting was yesterday; he will last air on January 30, 2014.
Did you anticipate they were letting you go?I suspected it could happen, but I didn't think that it really would -- at least not now; maybe down the line. I worked four-and-a-half years on Y&R. I've been able to enjoy a candle that burns at both ends and a spotlight that burns so bright that maybe it burns out a bit faster than others. I felt like my version of Adam might not last forever. I never called in sick. I never even arrived on time -- I was always early, sometimes hours early, because I wanted to be sharp with my dialogue. I even went into work the day after I snapped my collarbone in half and they worked it into the show! I always gave a 100 percent effort all the time. I believe in being professional at all times. Some fans and critics were worried about your future on "Y&R" when Adam ran over and killed Delia, Billy and Chloe's daughter. Did that raise a red flag for you?No. I just thought it was going to be a great story to tell. All I know is whatever load they gave me I tried to carry it with integrity. I'm proud of the stance I made on the show. Gosh, I can't believe I'm doing an exit interview as I'm heading into the CBS studios right now. I just realized I'm going to pull into these gates only a couple more times. Yesterday, I filmed goodbye scenes to Chelsea, Jack and to Adam's son, Connor. I didn't know at that point I was gone. [Voice cracks] I hope I made some kind of impact.Let's talk about your future: Would you do another soap? Or are you done?Let's put it this way, I'll consider Broadway, TV, soaps and film. I see the world differently than I did five years ago: it's all acting. Given the opportunity to play another amazing role and be paid so I can put food on the table for my kids, I'd do another soap. I'm in.
Arrogantly, when I began on Y&R, I thought I would take this role for a couple of years, make an impact and return back to prime time and film. There are some people -- not all -- who have moved on from soaps in their careers and received huge fame, but they don't acknowledge soaps. If I never do another soap again, and I'm able to find lightning in a bottle this pilot season and find a job I'm passionate about, I'll always think fondly of the people involved and be proud of my soap career. Finally, when you think of your journey as Adam Newman, what do you think of?The very first episode I ever aired. Hearing "Nadia's Theme," I heard the great, booming voice of Peter Bergman say, "The role of Adam Newman will now be played by Michael Muhney." That probably tops it all. So began my fairy tale with the show .... and the rest from here is happily ever after.Michael's co-stars reaction!GENERAL HOSPITAL Wins Women 18-49 Demo!GENERAL HOSPITAL was Daytime #1 program in the Women 18-49 demo for the week of December 9, 2013. The continuing story of Another World!Cass Winthrop. Aaah. If you remember the daytime drama Another World, that name likely brings back memories. Especially, curiously enough, in Saskatchewan. The "continuing story," which aired from 1964 to 1999, had particularly high ratings in the Maritimes and Saskatchewan. As a result, Stephen Schnetzer, who played Cass, still has lots of local fans. He is no stranger to Saskatchewan, and has made several guest appearances at Telemiracle.
Schnetzer's post-Another-World world remains busy. His recent TV credits include Homeland, Person of Interest, Damages and Fringe. Before Another World and As the World Turns, he trained at the Julliard School and worked in theatre. In fact, he was once directed on stage by Laurence Olivier and acted in the Tempest with Anthony Hopkins.
In his Saskatoon appearance, Schnetzer will chat with fans, sign autographs and answer questions.
He's bringing a copy of the very last script of Another World with him - you know, the one where Cass and Lila get married and Cass gets kidnapped by a gorilla.
Here are a few questions for Stephen/Cass suggested by fans via social media.
Q: Why do you think Another World was so popular in Saskatchewan?A: Another World was so popular in Saskatchewan because the people of Saskatchewan have very, very discriminating taste, a very, very discerning eye. And because it was a terrific show.Q: Did you ever feel typecast as Cass?A: I really never felt typecast as Cass because I had the opportunity to play such a wide range of situations: comical, farcical, serious, dramatic, tragic.Q: How did Cass end up on Homeland?A: Cass didn't, I did! As an actor, I audition for a lot of different roles. Some I get, like Cass and the psychiatrist on Homeland, and some I don't get.Q: Will you ever come back and do Telemiracle?A: Just invite me and see how fast I say "yes!"DAYS OF OUR LIVES stars heading to Canada for May 31, 2014 event!DOOL Canada Events invites you to spend the day with your favorite DAYS stars, including Shawn Christian (Daniel), Galen Gering (Rafe), Eric Martsolf (Brady), James Scott (EJ), Greg Vaughan (Eric) and Arianne Zucker (Nicole) in Toronto, Canada on Saturday, May 31, 2014. David Tutera Plans a Wedding on The Young and the Restless!Who's getting hitched? GREY'S ANATOMY's Chandra Wilson Visiting GENERAL HOSPITAL!Soaps In Depth has learned exclusively that GREY'S ANATOMY's Chandra Wilson will be doing a guest spot on GENERAL HOSPITAL set to air on Tuesday, January 28!
"I've watched GH for 35 years," Wilson reveals. "I grew up with it. It holds such a place in my heart. Even though we've shared the same lot for 10 years I can't talk to anybody on the lot... it's weird to see them because they're supposed to be in Port Charles! I have that kind of fan disconnect."
As for how the GREY'S/GH crossover came to be, the actress is completely in the dark.
"I've been talking about this for years!" she confesses.
"Roger [Howarth, Franco] was visiting the GREY'S set and we talked about it. Then, the following Friday, I got the call. I asked Frank [Valentini, GH's executive producer] if this was because of Roger and he said, 'No. This has been in the works before.' So I don't know! But I'm glad it's happening!"Is Wilson going to be playing her GREY'S alter ego, Bailey, visiting Port Charles? Our lips are sealed, but we can reveal that she'll be a patient of Kevin's. And let's just say that Wilson's GH character has plenty in common with the no-nonsense Grey Sloan Memorial surgeon! Just be sure to tune in on Tuesday, January 28!
Crystal Hunt Arrested After Bar Room Showdown!Actress Crystal Hunt was arrested Friday night in Los Angeles after she allegedly broke a glass over a girls face during a heated bar room showdown, TMZ is reporting.
According to TMZ, Hunt got into an argument with another woman at Pearl's Liquor Bar in West Hollywood around 12:30 a.m., and allegedly threw a pint glass at the victim's face. The woman required medical attention afterward but the extent of her injuries are unclear.
Hunt was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and released the next morning when she made bail. Her lawyer Shepard Kopp told TMZ she was not drinking at the time and claims the woman was threatening her before the altercation. Hunt also claims she tried having the woman removed by security multiple times but they failed to do so. The woman continued to be aggressive with her and she was only acting in self defense.
Hunt starred as Lizzie Spaulding in GUIDING LIGHT and Stacy Morasco on ONE LIFE TO LIVE.
Y&R's Hunter King Dishes on Summer Newman, the Big Reveal, and More!At just 20 years old, Hunter King is making the transition from child to adult actress on The Young and the Restless in the role of angsty teen Summer Newman, whose world came crashing down around her when it was revealed that Nick Newman was not her biological father, but rather Jack Abbott was, and her mother -- Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) -- had an accident and has been in a coma ever since..
King, who launched her career at age six under the name Haley King, has amassed a list of comedy and drama credits that includes guest starring roles on the TV series Roswell, Hidden Hills, The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour, Without a Trace, Dexter, ER, Hannah Montana and Workaholics, before becoming a series regular on Hollywood Heights.
It was on that Nick at Nite series that she met Y&R's executive producer Jill Farren-Phelps, who is the reason that King is on the CBS daytime drama today.
But read on as she tells the story in her own words:
How did you end up getting the role of Summer on The Young and the Restless?Jill brought me over there. I never auditioned for Y&R. Jill [who had worked with Hunter on Hollywood Heights] just called me. As I was coming off the plane from Florida with a friend, Jill called and said, "Do you want to come work on Y&R and play Summer? I was like, "Yeah." She said, "Okay. You start in two days."
I came in and replaced the old Summer [Lindsay Bushman] in the middle of a huge storyline, where she had gotten into a car accident and hit Chelsea, her aunt, and killed her baby. I came in in the middle of that, as Summer was waking up in the hospital. It was very intimidating coming into such a huge storyline, but everybody was really helpful. I got into it very quickly. Were you a fan of Y&R, or at all familiar with the show before Jill called?I was kind of familiar with it, because my grandma has watched it for a while now. So I sometimes watched it with her. I did know who some of the characters were and the relationships between them. Now, when I have any questions about what's going on, I go to my grandma and she tells me everything. My grandma is really good about that.Has your grandmother (Elaine Farrar) lobbied for a visit to the set? She's actually come with me [to work] a few times. Sometimes I bring my mom to keep me company for the day. Sometimes, I bring my grandma. Whenever she comes, she's very excited. It's like real life to her. She's like, "Uh oh. There's Nick [Joshua Morrow] and Sharon [Sharon Case]. Are they getting together?" She gets very into it.When was the first time your grandmother came to the set?I think Michelle Stafford was still there, so my grandma was very excited to get a picture with her and to see what was going on. It was adorable watching her. She likes to see what's coming up on the show.Did any of the more veteran actors take you under their wing when you started?Well, Peter Bergman's always been extremely helpful. He's always been one to go over lines with me multiple times. He's always so willing to give me guidance whenever I needed it. Also Michelle Stafford was really good about that, as well. How long did it take until you felt comfortable in the role?I would say [it took] about two months until I felt that I had made it my own. I just got used to going to the same place every day, getting the lines and developing my own personality for Summer. What was your reaction when you first learned that Nick wasn't going to be Summer's dad? At that point, did you think that was the truth?I thought that was the truth until they exposed what happened. I didn't find out the truth until the script came. They're like, "You have to wait and see." For a while I was like, "Oh, my gosh! This is huge. He's not my dad." I was getting really into it. Then I saw what happened. I was reading and they left like a cliff note right at the end of one of the scripts about what Sharon did. I was sitting in my dressing room in disbelief, like, "How could she do that to me? This is awful. This is way bad." I took it very close to heart. Are you looking forward to the big reveal when the truth comes out that Sharon switched the DNA tests?I'm actually really excited. I'm very curious as to how they're going to play it out with Summer. I'm sure she's still going to have the close bond that she now has with Jack. I'm excited to play it as an actress and to see how it all plays out as a fan.Learning Nick wasn't her father caused a lot of drama, like discovering that Kyle (Hartley Sawyer), who she had a crush on, was her brother. She's been through a lot. She might need to get some therapy soon. That's all [Hartley and I] ever talk about on the set: When are we going to find out that we're not related? We're both really curious to find out. But it's actually been fun to play those awkward moments between Summer and Kyle because you know that they still have those feelings there, but they really shouldn't because they're supposedly brother and sister. It's really fun to play. Is there any way you are like Summer in real life?Well, I don't have fun modeling shoots, and my boyfriend isn't my brother. But, we're the same in the way that when there's trouble, we both kind of run from it. At first, we didn't want to handle any problems. As I've grown older now… Summer and I have kind of grown up together in a way. Now when problems happen in Summer's life, she's more willing to confront them and try to solve them rather than run away from them. I think we're both kind of the same that way.You began acting at a very young age. How was that?Since I was six years old. My older sister (Kelli) started acting when she was six. I was a really shy kid. My mom [Jamie] didn't think I could do it. Then one day we went into the agent's office and I said I want to do it, too. I was six years old. Nobody would have expected that coming out of my mouth. I started going on auditions. My mom has always been my acting coach. I took some acting lessons for a few weeks here and there, but mostly I just did plays in this little theater in Agora Hills [Calif.] when I was growing up. Just going over lines with my mom really helped me a lot. You had done guest starring roles on shows like Dexter, Without a Trace and Hannah Montana, but Hollywood Heights was your first role as a regular on a series. Do you consider that to be your big break?Yeah. It was scary at first because it was the soap opera-style of filming, where we filmed an episode a day. There would be 50 pages of lines to learn. I'd never experienced that before. I'd experienced going on auditions and having a few little lines to learn. And other shows, primetime shows, they film an episode in a week. So I was used to that. It was really intimidating. Everybody was really helpful, though, and I got used to it quickly.Hartley Sawyer Leaving THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS!Hartley Sawyer, who replaced Blake Hood as Kyle Abbott on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS in March, has been let go. The news was first reported by Daytime Confidential.
According to a Y&R spokesperson, "Hartley is wrapping up but will be airing for several weeks into the new year."
In the current Y&R story, Kyle, the son of Jack and the late Diane Jenkins, recently went to work for Victor Newman to serve as a spy for Jack.
No reason for Sawyer's exit has been released.
