Mad Men party y/y??

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Who is this Lyle West?
NICK JONAS: Lyle is a really common character. He’s very precocious and he has a lot of confidence. Basically, he’s a child actor who has just come into a bunch of financial success from the television show that he’s on that’s gone into syndication. He knows all the people involved in the Marilyn workshop from his time as a theater actor as a young boy. So the director, Derek Wills [Jack Davenport], throws Lyle a birthday party where Anjelica Huston’s character tries to get him to invest in the show.
So, just like you, he started as a kid on Broadway and then he became a TV star. Was that intentional?
You know what, I really don’t know if it was or not. I know that his role was already in place when they asked me to be a part of it. They just said that there is this role that they were developing for a young guy to negotiate with Anjelica Huston. It’s very similar to my real journey and that’s fun. I definitely didn’t have to do much character research since I know what that’s like.
Will you be singing?
I sing a song when you enter the party. I’m singing Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet,” which was fun for me. I love that song and I think Michael Bublé is great. I’m also involved in a group number — an original number they do at the end of the episode. I jump on the guitar.
That number — when the company decides on the spot to perform a song from the Marilyn musical at your party — seemed pretty complicated.
It took a little while to film. I think it took about a full night to work that all out, because it is pretty elaborate. It’s ironic that the elaborate thing is the one that’s supposed to be impromptu.
You share a particularly emotional scene at the end of the episode with Anjelica Huston.
Yeah, it was pretty, pretty intense. I think Anjelica Huston is obviously one of the greatest actresses of all time and it was incredible to watch her work in that way. It was very inspiring. Megan [Hilty] and I were humbled to be part of that scene in the way that we were.
Is Lyle going to be a hands-on financier? In other words, will you be back?
You know, I haven’t really been told yet. I would be all for being on the show again, but no one has mentioned it yet. If there’s an opportunity, I’m there.
Is there anything that occurs on the show that doesn’t happen behind-the-scenes on Broadway but you wish did?
I’ve watched all the episodes so far and the brilliant thing they’ve done is really keep it close to the way Broadway actually works. It’s a great thing because I think that it’s really connecting with so many audiences — not just musical theater fans, but people who want to know how the whole thing works and are genuinely just interested in these different people’s lives and stories.
For my final two questions, I want you to go with your gut. Which do you prefer, Broadway or TV?
Ah, tough to say. I really enjoy both. There’s another element, though, that should be in there: recording music. It’s the biggest thing for me, really. That’s where I really got my start and out of those three passions, well, I’m going to be greedy and say I like all of them. It’s just a joy for me to be able to do them — especially on Smash where I get to do all three. It’s a really fun sort of collaboration.
And lastly, whom would you rather end up playing Marilyn: Katharine McPhee or Megan Hilty?
You know, I’ve been given a little insider information on that. So I have to stay silent and just say to everyone that doesn’t know, keep watching and that story gets really interesting.

As Sherlock Holmes, he has had more than his fair share of adventures. But Benedict Cumberbatch may now be learning that real life can be even stranger than fiction.
The actor has struck up a ‘very close’ friendship with Lydia Hearst, daughter of notorious kidnap victim and bank robber Patty Hearst. Cumberbatch, 35, has been seen at a number of Hollywood parties with the 27-year-old model over the past month. The pair were seated together at the 20th annual Elton John Aids Foundation Oscars Academy Awards viewing party on Sunday night, where one onlooker said they ‘only had eyes for each other’. And perhaps it’s no wonder the British actor is captivated by Miss Hearst, given that her family background is more dramatic than many film scripts.
Her great-grandfather was William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper magnate said to have inspired the megalomaniac central character in Citizen Kane. Her mother was an apolitical 19-year-old American heiress when she was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army, a Left-wing guerilla group, in 1974. Her case grew even stranger when, during her captivity, she joined the SLA, denounced her former life, took the name Tania and carried out an armed robbery on a bank in San Francisco with other group members. She was arrested the following year and during her trial it was claimed that she had developed Stockholm syndrome, the condition in which hostages begin to identify with their captors in order to make sense of what is happening to them.
Cumberbatch is being courted by Hollywood after appearing in Oscar-nominated hits Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and War Horse. He is currently in the U.S. to film the Star Trek sequel, in which he plays a ‘baddie’. He also recently finished shooting Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, in which he will voice both dragon Smaug and villain Necromancer. Martin Freeman, his co-star in BBC1’s Sherlock, has the title role.
He had a brief romance with fashion designer Anna Jones last year and his sister said: ‘One of his regrets is that he hasn’t found someone to settle down with. ‘I think they would have to be someone not in the acting profession. Someone who was happy to hold the fort while he went off and pursued his career.’
Last night, a spokesman for Cumberbatch confirmed he was ‘very close’ friends with Miss Hearst, adding: ‘They have been friends a while now, but to say they are dating is probably too strong.’
Pat and Joe Prosey know there will be some folks watching TLC’s upcoming edition of “My Crazy Obsession,” featuring their collection of Cabbage Patch dolls, and think the couple is totally bonkers.
And not in a good way.
It’s not that they’ve spent a ton of money amassing more than 5,000 of the dolls that will make folks say they’re weird — it’s the couple’s
insistence on carrying one, named Kevin, everywhere they go.
“I can see where a lot of people think we’re not quite right,” Pat Prosey says. “You could even say our daughter thinks we’re out there.”
Sure enough, in the edition of “My Crazy Obsession” to air March 7 at 10 p.m., daughter Vicki notes that she refuses to refer to Kevin as a kid or a brother.
The Maryland couple talk to Kevin as if he’s real, and walk around talking to others as if Kevin is a child, not the invention of a toymaker.
In one scene, they go into a gift shop where Joe, carrying Kevin, talks to the shop worker through Kevin. The woman says to the camera that her doll-carrying customers are usually in grade school.
“For every person who makes a comment like she does, there are 10 people who make a positive comment,” declares Pat.
The couple began collecting the dolls 27 years ago. Over time, they collected so many Cabbage Patch creatures that they had to build a separate 6,000-square-foot home just to house the collection. It costs upwards of $1,000 a month just to keep the dolls in a climate-controlled world.
Think twice about calling the Proseys nutso, because they’re not alone.
In one scene, Joe, a retired shipyard manager, invites other collectors to visit — along with their “kids” — and he sets up an amusement park where the dolls can play.
“We have a roof over our head. We have food. We don’t owe any money. It could be worse,” says Pat, who worked as a lab researcher. “We could be doing other things with our money.
“What about people who collect artwork,” Pat says. “Nobody thinks they’re weird. This happens to be our collection. I think it’s crazy to spend a couple of million dollars on jewelry or art.”
Carrying Kevin around all the time actually started as a fluke, says Joe. Years ago they were meeting friends to go waterskiing. He found a pint-sized wetsuit, got a small boat, and dragged Kevin along on the trip.
He’s been with them ever since.
“Somebody always has something to say, whether good or bad, about Cabbage Patch kids,” observes Joe.
Fellow Cabbage Patch collectors understand their connection to Kevin. On holidays, the “kids” send cards to each other.
“It’s a unique little fantasy world,” he says. “It’s good, clean fun.”
Where the collection goes — or grows — down the road is a big question for the retired couple.
“We have wrestled with the idea of what will happen to the collection when we’re gone,” Pat says. “We have it right now in our wills that the collection will be split between the Ronald McDonald House and St. Judes [Children’s Hospital].”
And Kevin?
“If Vicki did not want to take him, he would go with the rest of the collection,” Pat says. “No matter what she says about the kids or our collection, I kind of think that would be the one memento she’d want to hold onto.”
