The Mortal Instruments: City of Bone(r)s opens Wednesday, but the box office predictions are not optimistic:

Mortal Instruments,” which Germany’s Constantin Film produced for $60 million, is based on the Cassandra Clare-penned novel about a teen girl (played by Lily Collins), who discovers she’s the descendant of a demon-killing family lineage. The PG-13-rated film is expected to earn upward of $6 million before Friday.

A projected $12 million weekend gross would put “Instruments” in the $18 million range for five days.

Sony-Screen Gems’ “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” has a stronghold among teen girls, launching Wednesday with tracking in the mid-to-high teens over five days. But the teen-lit adaptation will have a tough time breaking $20 million, thanks to Lionsgate’s scarer “You’re Next” commanding adult femme interest.

“You’re Next” will battle with last weekend’s B.O. winner, the Weinstein Co.’s “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” for the top spot.

“Mortal Instruments,” which Germany’s Constantin Film produced for $60 million, is based on the Cassandra Clare-penned novel about a teen girl (played by Lily Collins), who discovers she’s the descendant of a demon-killing family lineage. The PG-13-rated film is expected to earn upward of $6 million before Friday.

A projected $12 million weekend gross would put “Instruments” in the $18 million range for five days. Pic also bows this weekend in Imax.

Meanwhile, “You’re Next” could build on recent interest in horror films like “The Purge.” Also opening wide is Focus Features’ British comedy “The World’s End,” expected to gross in the low-teens through Sunday.

Male audiences should also turn out for “World’s End,” which is an apocalyptic-themed parody from the creators of “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead.” Pic stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

The midweek bow for “Mortal Instruments” is meant to attract a few pockets of teen girls that are still on summer break. The film aims to build positive buzz through to the weekend, but it’s been skewered by critics.

The “Mortal Instruments” films are based on Clare’s bestselling book series, which has been translated into 34 languages, and has sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. Sony acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film last year. Its sequel, “City of Ashes,” is slatted to begin production this fall, with Collins and helmer Harald Zwart returning.

It's worth noting that the movie is getting horrible reviews. It's currently about 30% fresh (meaning, rotten) on Rotten Tomatoes and its Metactiric score is around 30.

What do you think, ONTD? Will this gem do well at the box office or is there any hope for humanity's good taste left?

OK, so it wasn't exactly a romantic night for two, but lovebirds Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Houltstill seemed to enjoy spending time together at the movies.

The on-again couple were joined with a number of their X-Men: Days of Future Past costars for a private movie screening, thanks to their buddy and fellow onscreen mutant Hugh Jackman.

"Took the Xmen gang to screening of The Butler. Loved it.. Huge Congrats  to #leedaniels@oprah#thebutler," the actor wrotealongside a photo of the group in the theater.

And whaddya know—right there, front and center, are J. Law and Hoult looking cute and oh-so adorable as they sit closely next to each other with big smiles on their faces.

The young pair were also spotted together arriving at the film's private wrap party in Montreal, Canada, at the club CINQ in downtown over the weekend.

Looking trendy and cazh, Lawrence strut her curves while wearing a black, sheer spaghetti-strap tank top with a neon bandage skirt and black peep-toe heels, while Hoult looked handsome in cuffed pants and a gray T-shirt that was revealed through an open salmon button-down.

The duo, who split in January of this year, reportedly rekindled their romance after reuniting to shoot the X-Men flick. Lawrence even spoke about her breakup with the young star in Vogue's September issue.

"I wake up earlier in the morning when I have new sponges. That counter doesn't even see it coming. [Hoult] would never wring them out. We were in the kitchen once, and I picked up the sponge, and it was soapy and wet, and I was like,'See? These are the kinds of things that make me think we are never going to work.'"

    Luckily, they worked through it.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- “General Hospital’s” Kirsten Storms and Brandon Barash recently tied the knot and are expecting their first child together, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

“Wow! Thanks to everyone for all the love! Brandon and I are very very very excited about this new adventure,” Kirsten Tweeted on Tuesday after fans congratulated the couple on their news.

Brandon too was moved by the response from fans.

“Wow peeps…the outpouring of love and blessings is humbling. I love you all,” he Tweeted.

Brandon used to play mobster Johnny Zacchara on the ABC soap, but recently left the series. Kirsten plays Maxie Jones. Maxie is currently in labor on the show.

Kirsten’s real life pregnancy will not be written into the show, a rep for “GH” told Access.

The couple’s baby — a girl — is due in January, Brandon told People.

“It’s been the most amazing couple of months of our lives,” he told the mag of their June wedding and their baby news.

“We kept things quiet because of everything that can go wrong during the first trimester,” he added. “Kirsten did have a rocky [time] [because of her endometriosis] and we were in and out of the hospital.”

Asked on Twitter if Bradford Anderson, who plays Spinelli, the father of Maxie’s “GH” baby, will be an “honorary Uncle” for her own child with Brandon, Kirsten Tweeted, “of course.”

Brandon responded to the question by Tweeting, “DUH!”

    -- Jolie Lash

Yay for her pregnancy as she's battled endometriosis publicly for quite some time.  An illness more than 10 million women struggle with that is often misdiagnoses or missed entirely, it is a disease with no known cause and no cure with symptoms including super painful periods that many sufferers and doctors mistake as no big deal.  /psa

Special shoutout to all fellow Endo Warriors from the OP, I hope your endo monster is quiet today! <3

Speaking to Sharlto Copley and not mentioning sci-fi fan favourite ‘District 9’ is a hard thing to do. So, doing press for his latest team-up with director Neill Blomkamp ‘Elysium’, in which Sharlto plays vicious mercenary Kruger, we went for it - asking if the movie making duo would ever return to the film that made them famous.

“Yeah I think so. I think that’ll happen,” said Sharlto, talking to Yahoo! Movies UK about his work with Blomkamp.“The second time round you hope that they’ll be ready, and there’ll be toys, and there’ll be stuff to really get out there any make the most of that project, which I think is really close to both of our hearts.”

“There’s huge potential in [a sequel]”

Sharlto, who played pen-pusher turned alien-outlaw in Blomkamp’s 2009 movie, admitted he felt the competitiveness of the movie industry meant it was almost “essential” to revisit old characters, telling us “It’s very hard to think of a character that is in pop culture where they were only in one film.”

“It’s such a competitive business that it’s almost essential for you to come back and revisit the characters to really entrench a certain brand or whatever,” he added. “And that’s why the reliance then on franchises, because it is so competitive out there.”

Check out the rest of our interview with Sharlto, including the ‘Elysium’ star telling us why he thinks him an Neill have “only scratched the surface” of what they can do, and his recipe for the perfect movie villain.

Don't mind me, I'm just going to leave this lovely gif here (also when it comes to a District 9 sequel I know people either really want one or do not want it at all, I'm personally in the middle, I won't be heartbroken if a sequel never happens but it would be nice to return to that world again)

The singer weighs in on speculation that the group is planning to perform together at Sunday's Video Music Awards.

Will there be an 'N Sync reunion at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards? That was the rumor that got the Internet abuzz on Tuesday.

In his SiriusXM show Dirty Pop With Lance Bass, the former 'N Syncer addressed the speculation -- without actually confirming or denying that the reunion will take place.

"Justin Timberlake is getting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award this Sunday at the awards, so of course people are automatically going to think we’re going to be there performing, but this is exactly how it happened and I knew these rumors were going to fly," he said.

Bass pointed out that he, along with Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, flew to Miami to see Timberlake's show with Jay Z at the Sun Life Stadium on Friday. (J.C. Chasez couldn't make the trip because he was in California, working.)

Bass says he posted a photo of himself with Fatone and Kirkpatrick on Instagram, which he says further fanned the flames of rumors over a possible reunion.

"I think that's what started the rumor that there's going to be this big reunion with 'N Sync," he said, adding: "It's amazing to see the reaction out there on Twitter and social media [and] how many people are supporting 'N Sync. It's so nice to see because when we ended things [over] 10 years ago, there was no social media, there was no Twitter, but it's so cute to see how many people are supporting [us], and 'N Sync was even trending."

When guest Lea Black (Bravo's The Real Housewives of Miami) declared that fans should "start demanding a reunion," Bass replied: "That would be an amazing time."

MTV has neither confirmed nor denied the reports. Timberlake's rep hasn't responded to The Hollywood Reporter's request for comment.

The 2013 VMAs are set to take place Sunday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Sundance Selects says it will release the film with the adults-only rating beginning in October.

Blue Is the Warmest Color, the lesbian love story that won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, has been rated NC-17 by the MPAA’s Classification & Ratings Administration. Rather than contest the rating, cut the film or release it without a rating, distributor Sundance Selects announced Tuesday that it will release the film beginning Oct. 25 with the restrictive NC-17 rating.
The adults-only rating means that no one 17 and under will be admitted to the film. Blue received the rating for “explicit sexual content.”

Since Sundance Selects, a sister label to IFC Films, owned and operated by AMC Networks, is not a studio subsidiary, it is free to release movies without a rating if it chooses, although some theaters decline to exhibit unrated films.

"This is a landmark film with two of the best female performances we have ever see on screen. The film is first and foremost a film about love, coming of age and passion. We refuse to compromise Kechiche's vision by trimming the film for an R rating, and we have every confidence that Blue Is the Warmest Color will play in theaters around the country regardless,” said Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films. “An NC-17 rating no longer holds the stigma it once did, and we look forward to bringing this unforgettable film to audiences nationwide. We believe this film will leave a lasting imprint as the The Last Tango in Paris for a whole new generation."

Officials at both the MPAA and the National Association of Theater Owners have long argued that there is a place for the adults-only NC-17 rating, although the major studios have generally avoided releasing films with the rating.
Directed by Abdellatif Kechiche from a screenplay he wrote with Ghalya Lacroix, the French-language film stars Lea Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos, and was produced by Alcatraz Films, Quat'Sous Films and Wild Bunch. The film centers on a 15-year-old girl, played by Exarchopoulos, who falls for an older art student.

In France, the film received a rating of "12" by the French Ministry of Culture, indicating the film is unsuitable only for children younger than 12 years of age in that country.

I love how this is getting a "12" rating in France lol

    K. Michelle Sells 68,000 First Week, Debuts at #2 on Billboard with Rebellious Soul

Huge congratulations are in order for Kimberly Pate, a.k.a. K. Michelle. The Memphis-born singer released her debut album Rebellious Soul last week, and much to everyone’s surprise (even K’s), the record has gotten off to a great start!

Nowadays, it has become pretty much standard that when R&B acts promote their records on TV for the month prior, they typically sell around 60,000 copies. It happened to Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream, Brandy’s Two Eleven, Kelly Rowland’s Talk A Good Game, and even Ciara’s latest. And all four of those albums had pretty big promo schedule leading up to their release, and all had hit singles.

Well K. has sold 68,000 albums first week, and has debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 Album Charts, #1 on the Billboard R&B Chart.
This comes as a huge surprise as, aside from ‘Love & Hip Hop: ATL’, K. Michelle has received no promotion, aside from a few showing on BET’s 106 & Park. And “V.S.O.P.” is still in the #20′s on the R&B chart (but growing), so it isn’t even a radio hit yet. So for K. Michelle to be selling as much as the premier R&B artist of today with no promotion and no hit single is amazing! You have to attribute that to her hustle, and her constant touring over the last 2 years, which has clearly helped her fan base become loyal fans.

And with her transitioning to ‘Love & Hip Hop: NY’ and receiving her own VH1 show after that, plus her going on tour with Keyshia Cole, then again with R. Kelly, this album could very well reach Gold status by this time next year. Congrats K!

So Proud of K!!! Let's jam.

Is it a rat tail or a mullet? A stylish new hairstyle or a terrible tress mess? Quick-change artist Rihanna, who in the past month alone has rocked three different hairstyles, has Instagrammed her latest cutting-edge look -- and it's a doozy.

The "Stay" singer first showed off her new 'do on Aug. 16, when she shared a picture of her boarding a private jet en route to New York City. In the shot, taken head-on, her cut looks like a conventional pixie, not unlike the one that her peer Beyonce debuted on Aug. 7. In the following photos, though, it becomes apparent that there's nothing conventional about her new hairstyle; shots taken from the back reveal long strands at the base of her neck.

In July, Rihanna rocked an asymmetrical undercut (long on one side, buzzed on the other), but she had it all shorn evenly in August for a curly short 'do that she sported while visiting her native Barbados, where she shared many pics via Instagram of her natural, beachy look (not to mention amazing bikini body).

    What's the worst hairstyle ever?

While the world has been onBeyoncé hair watch the last two weeks, Rihanna must have decided we all needed a reminder who the real hair chameleon is in Hollywood.

The singer, who just got a curly pixie cut just two weeks ago, has already transitioned out of the cute ‘do to a more rocker style.

Yesterday the star shared her new "business in the front, party in the back" effect. That's right, the 25-year-old is sporting a mullet—complete with a Mohawk tail.

Eric and Jessie are growing tired of the unfortunate consequences of being a reality TV couple — and that resentment is setting in about a month before their show has even kicked off.

The reports are based off of tweets sent out by James, the country-singing wife of Decker, a Denver Broncos wide receiver. She talked about the couple struggling with fans who are trying to get a little too up close and personal.

The tweet has since been deleted but said “Way too many people stopping in front of our home and taking pics. I appreciate the excitement but its also disrespectful. We are moving now.”

Eric Decker did talk to FOX31 Denver Sports Director Nick Griffith Monday nght. He wanted to make sure both his and his wife’s fans knew where they were coming from.

“We love our fan base and are excited about all of the support,” Decker told Griffith. “But we do feel there are some privacy boundaries that need to be respected so that we can feel safe and comfortable in our own home.”

Decker also said that both he and Jessie are excited about the debut of their show on E! called Eric & Jessie: Game on. It begins September 29 at 8:00 PM.

A year ago, Decker was key in the Broncos attempt to win a Super Bowl — one that ultimately fell short. Over 50% of voters in an online poll said they believed the show would rob Decker’s focus from football. The poll didn’t bother John Elway, who gave Decker permission to do the show.

“I don’t think that’s going to affect him,” Elway said. “I know Eric Decker and how hard he works and what football means to him.”

Decker also responded to concerned Bronco fans on Twitter, saying “Nothing will deter me from my football career,” Decker wrote. “I have priorities & I have the same common goal as my teammates to win championships.”

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has always featured episodes ripped straight from the world's most controversial headlines and it looks like this hot-button tradition will continue in the drama's 15th season.

The NBC procedural is currently filming an episode that looks to be inspired by one of the biggest and most controversial legal stories of the year: the shooting of Trayvon Martin and the trial of George Zimmerman. Based on these photos snapped on the set Tuesday, SVU is taking on the case that both polarized and outraged the nation.

According to the Daily Mail, Cybill Shepard has been tasked to play a vigilante-like character who killed a black teenager named Mehcad. Arrested Development's Jeffrey Tambor is playing her lawyer, and the scene filmed yesterday involved a protest very much like the ones held during Zimmerman's trial in July. Extras can be seen holding signs almost identical to the ones created to mourn Trayvon Martin.

Castmembers Ice-T, Mariska Hargitay, Richard Belzer and Raul Esparza were also filming at the protest scenes. The episode is allegedly titled "American Tragedy."

When asked if this episode was in fact based on the Trayvon Martin case, NBC would only say: "SVU is fiction."

This is not the first time SVU has tackled mainstream cases. Last season, the series aired an episode featuring a hip-hop star named Caleb Bryant accused of physically assaulting his girlfriend Micha, who is also a famous singer. Sound familiar?

The new season of Law & Order: SVU premieres Sept. 25 on NBC.
