Madonna, MIA and a nailbiter of an ending made last night's Superbowl XLVI was the second most tweeted event in history.

Just over 12,000 tweets per second were generated near the end of the game that saw the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 21-17 on Sunday, according to a tweet sent out by Twitter officials yesterday.

Madonna's half-time show performance generated 10,245 tweets per second, making it the third most tweeted event ever. Rapper MIA's controversial middle finger gesture during her part of the half-time show may have also helped boost Twitter traffic during the event.

What remains the most tweeted event ever so far?

An airing of the anime movie ‘Castle in the Sky' on Japanese TV on Dec. 9, 2011 is the top Twitter traffic driver of all time with 25,088 tweets per second. Rounding out the rest of the top five Twitter events in history are Tim Tebow's overtime touchdown pass on Jan. 8, 2012 (9,420 tweets per second) in fourth place, and Beyonce's Aug. 28, 2011 pregnancy announcement during the MTV Video Music Awards (8,868 tweets per second) in fifth spot.


Madonna’s new single “Give Me All Your Luvin’” and forthcoming album “MDNA” are off to a solid sales start.

After only three days in release, “Luvin’” has sold over 100,000 downloads in the U.S. according to industry sources (through the close of business Sunday, Feb. 5), while pre-orders for her album via the iTunes Store stand around the 50,000 mark.

Comparably, Madonna’s last lead single from a studio album, 2008′s “4 Minutes,” bowed with 217,000 downloads in its first week of availability (it was released on a Monday). Or, a little more than double what “Luvin’” has sold in three days.

Billboard.com will release Nielsen SoundScan’s exact sales data on “Luvin’s” first three days of sales on Wednesday morning (Feb. 8).

“MDNA” is the Super Bowl diva’s 12th studio album, and is due out March 26 via Interscope Records. The title was exclusively available for pre-orders on iTunes beginning Friday, Feb. 3. Her single and video for “Luvin’” also premiered digitally the same day.

With over 100,000 “Luvin’” singles sold, along with its handsome airplay debut, the track will debut on this week’s new Billboard Hot 100 chart (which measures airplay, sales and streaming data). Highlights of the Hot 100, on which Madonna will make her 56th career visit with “Luvin’,” will be released Wednesday (Feb. 8).

Madonna’s back catalog of albums also got a sales boost last week, thanks to sale pricing and publicity generated by her new single and her Super Bowl halftime performance. Sources say her top 10 digital sellers are showing a collected increase of over 1,700%.

Her “Celebration” greatest hits album got the largest bump and sold between 13,000-14,000 download copies (up from a couple hundred units the week previous). The best-of set was discounted to $6.99 in the iTunes Store while most of her other albums were priced at $7.99 at the retailer. It also sold for $3.99 on Sunday in the Amazon MP3 store.

Further impact of the diva’s Super Bowl spectacular will be felt next week, after a full seven days’ worth of sales are registered post-game.

Aided by Clear Channel's promotion of the song - participating pop stations in the chain played it at the top of every hour from Friday at 9 a.m. ET until the game's kickoff last night - Madonna's Give Me All Your Luvin' soars onto Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs chart at No. 24 as the format's Greatest Gainer (2,766 opening-week plays).

After less than three days of availability, the song registered airplay on 125 of the chart's 141 reporters. The chart's seven-day tracking period closed, per usual, at midnight ET last night.

Notably, plays on Clear Channel stations accounted for 79% of Give Me All Your Luvin's first-week airplay at the format overall (2,196 of 2,766 total plays).

Give Me All Your Luvin' isn't the first occurrence of Clear Channel flexing its considerable muscle to bring new music to its listeners. On the Nov. 26, 2011, chart, Rihanna's You Da One stormed in at No. 26 with 2,133 first-week plays after the chain's pop stations similarly premiered it.

In perhaps a gauge of pop airplay next week for Give Me All Your Luvin', Rihanna's You DaOne fell by 24% in airplay - and from No. 26 to No. 30 on Pop Songs - in its second week without the assistance of Clear Channel's promotion. Still, the song eventually rebounded, rising as high as No. 19 last week.

With Give Me All Your Luvin', Madonna tallies her seventh top-25 debut, the most since the survey premiered the week of Oct. 3, 1992.

4 Minutes also arrived at No. 24 the week of April 5, 2008. The week of March 7, 1998, Frozen scorched the chart at No. 16. To-date, the arrival remains one of the four highest in the chart's history.

Beyond Pop Songs, Give Me All Your Luvin' simultaneously starts at No. 33 on the Rhythmic airplay chart, No. 35 on Adult Pop Songs and No. 20 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay.

Who Will Win B&B's Soaper Bowl 2012 Smackdown?




Jack Wagner has been taken off of contract. WTF are they thinking over at B&B? Bridge isn't going anywhere despite it being one of the most boring, dull couples ever on the show, Does Ronn Moss have a problem with other males on the show, particularly good looking ones that can act? Let's see Brandon Beamer was let go, Rick Hearst, Lorenzo Lamas, Kyle Lowder, all good looking and good actors. And what about Winsor Harmon who we rarely see these days? Now Jack, one of the most popular characters on the show.

When Hope dumps Thomas he is not a happy camper. He turns to Dayzee, but will Dayzee fall again for him or stick with Marcus since they have gotten close?. Notice how Brooke is starting to look more and more the 'matron' of the show? That's not just a coincidence. I'm hearing that Susan Flannery has finally decided to step back and let the youngsters take over, choosing to help direct more. Does this mean she's out? No, she's just not going to be seen as much.

A Taylor/Thorne story is of course going to be shown during Valentine's Day, but don't look too much into it. Once the sweeps are over with, Taylor is once again going to the background to be supportive of her kids and pop in once in a while to give Ridge an ego stroke or two.

Victor has planed a special Valentine's Day surprise for Nikki but will a shocking secret tear them apart? I am hearing the natives behind the scenes are getting very restless and very irritable. Some have been heard saying while they adore a certain actress (so they say) they are sick and tired of her Diva style and always whining about one thing or another.

One actor/actress in particular was heard saying in their dressing room that since she has been back and with a front burner story, the rest of the veterans have been pushed to the backburner. Unfortunately this person was overheard by one of MAB's worker bees and if you start to see a certain character slowly drift away all I can say is it's a damn shame!

Victor has Sharon fooled right now, he makes it seem like he cares for Adam but I doubt that is the case. With Victor no good deed from him comes without a catch, Sharon is falling right into a trap Victor is setting up. Adam learns its unlikely he'll get back his eyesight. Jack learns its unlikely he'll be able to walk again, well we all know these 2 stories will drag out for months and then a miracle will happen as it always does on soaps.

Do any of you remember when ghost John told Jack about a great love waiting for him? Maybe this refers to Nikki. Jack always said, even after he and Nikki were divorced, that she was the love of his life. Cane and Lily are married in France....Kevin finds himself in an unhappy relationship....Chelsea has a pregnancy scare but is she faking?.... Nina reaches out to Ronan again.... Jill tells Katherine that Harmony is no good.... Chelsea confronts Victoria about how she lost custody of Reed.

While many rumors have been circulating that several actors will be moving on, another has left the building and taped his last scene Friday February 3rd. Nathan Parsons who plays Ethan will last be seen sometime in March.

As many of us know Ron C has a wish list of who he would like to see return to the show, he has been going strong with returns and as I hear we may be seeing one or two others return. Kin Shriner and Jackie Zeman's names have been kicked around. I hear Kin's manager has been trying to swing the deal and it looks pretty good. As for Jackie sources say don't hold your breath. On the other hand, maybe we should keep our ears open for maybe Lynn Herring or Robin Mattson. Hmmm......And what about Frisco could he finally becoming back? With the recent downgrade to recurring on B&B this could be a golden opportunity for GH to get back the days of old.

And what about those Brenda rumors? When Vanessa left the show rumor was that Brenda may be with child. But sources say that may all change if Vanessa decides to return and hopefully Frank and Ron can convince her to come back. I have learned from experience RC cannot always deliver on his own wish list. For example, RC very much planned a Max Holden return on OLTL but had to scrap those plans.

Secrets, secrets and more secrets will start to come out as Tracy as well as Helena have a bucket full. The mob are one of three stories that collide into the larger umbrella story. John McBain is a former FBI agent with experience in bringing down bad guys. However, instead of focusing on the mob's enemies and villains, RC's focus is on the Spencers and Scorpios. These enemies will interfere, and hurt the mob and their interests. Eventually most of the canvas will unite against these adversaries.

Starr will be serving as a catalyst for Michael's full Quartermaine to emerge. Insiders have heard that Starr encourages Michael to use money, not the mob, as a means to an end. Starr adores her father, sins and all and tells Michael how it can be done. Is Ted King is returning? Rumor is that FV wants King on GH as Tomas, but RC wants him as Lorenzo. We'll know soon enough who will win and if King's return is definite.

What if Anthony and Tracy's marriage was not valid? What if Nikolas returned to Port Charles? What if Franco was Jason's half brother?. What if someone gets too close to uncovering a truth, and gets silenced forever. What if a Q hired a Spencer to go after a Cassadine's treasure and Tracy knows something about the original Qs stake with the Cassadines and that Mikkos and Edward were doing some business together. What if Kate has a duel personality and doesn't even know it?

Chris Brown will perform at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Gossip Cop confirms.

Brown is nominated for three honors at this year’s ceremony.

The “F.A.M.E.” hit maker has been absent from the awards since 2009, when he assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammys party.

He is currently serving five years probation for that attack.

Rihanna is also scheduled to perform at this weekend’s show.

The Grammys will be broadcast on CBS live from Los Angeles on Sunday.

Madonna Sets 2012 World Tour Dates

Her 9th Trek Will Hit North America in August

Fresh of her halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVI (which was viewed by a record 114 million people) comes details of the Madonna 2012 World Tour. The trek will begin May 29 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and will be her most extensive tour ever in terms of number of dates, according to Arthur Fogel, CEO of Live Nation Global Touring, worldwide producers of the tour. The tour will take Madonna to Austrialia for the first time in 20 years, as well as many markets she has never played before.

Madonna will play North America until just before Thanksgiving, then head to Latin America to tour until the holidays, then wrap the tour in Australia in early 2013, Fogel says. The entire tour will end up with close to 90 shows, which would be the most ever for Madonna; Sticky & Sweet ended up with 85 dates.

UK's Channel 5 documentary "Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan"

In the first episode, the soldiers are shown washing up nude, bathing their bare bodies in a river.

In advertising for the show, The Radio Times recently apologised for using a Royal Marines naked penis to advertise the Channel 5 documentary Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan in a still photo.

An earlier statement on the Radio Times website read: "The unnamed marine is, like the rest of his unit, posing for the photograph dressed only in shorts. What we took to be the marine's finger proved, on closer inspection, to be another part of his anatomy."

However, when the first episode aired, it can be seen that it was simply honest advertising.

A viewer commented: "I know that British soldiers serving in Afghanistan are well equipped, but seeing the roll call of Royal Marines gives the expression a whole new meaning."

Editor Ben Preston added: "We apologise for any upset caused to readers by the rogue member of 42 Commando."

Now that Harry Styles is officially single, the British tabloids are keen to set him up with every girl he meets!

Harry was reportedly spotted partying with Pixie Geldof, daughter of Sir Bob Geldof and little sister of Peaches Geldof, who Harry once gave a fake number to.

The pair were apparently seen at a party hosted by mutual pal Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw.

A source told The Sun, "Harry has become big mates with Nick and was invited out with some of his Primrose Hill pals.

"He'd only been back from America for a couple of days but still fancied a night out. He wanted to carry on his birthday celebration and he knew that with this lot he'd have an interesting time."

Harry and Pixie spent most of the night talking to each other. Scandalous!

However, that's not the only report of Harry hanging out with a girl. He was also allegedly spotted having dinner with a blonde woman.

An insider told The Daily Star, "This new woman is in her 20s. Not as old as Caroline, but still an older woman. Seeing him out so soon after the split will sting a bit for Caroline."

Could any of this be true? While Harry might have spent time with these ladies, we doubt he's actually dating them! He only just split up with Caroline Flack a few weeks ago.

When I learned that Madonna – aka the Grand Priestess of the music industry – would be performing at the Superbowl halftime show, I thought: “This should be interesting”. And it was. While most were amazed by a woman in her fifties dancing around with LMFAO and others were annoyed at her lip-syncing, I was interested with something else: the flurry of symbolism flashed to billions of viewers worldwide. While most considered Madonna’s performance as an entertaining interlude to the most important football game of the year, those blessed with symbol-literacy will probably agree with the following statement: Madonna’s halftime show was a big celebration of the Illuminati industry and of its Grand Priestess, Madonna.


A week before the Superbowl, Madonna described on Anderson Cooper the spiritual importance she attributed to her halftime show:

“The Superbowl is kind of like the Holy of Holies in America. I’ll come at halfway of the “church experience” and I’m gonna have to deliver a sermon. It’ll have to be very impactful.”

It is rather appropriate that this Kaballah-intiate referred to the Superbowl as the “Holy of Holies” as it was the name of the most sacred place in Solomon’s Temple. No one was ever permitted to enter the Holy of Holies but the High Priest. This privilege was only granted on the Day of Atonement, to offer the blood of sacrifice and incense before the mercy seat. Madonna’s analogy was therefore telling of the mindset behind her performance. Let’s look at the main parts of her show.

Vogue  or Entrance of the Priestess

Madonna entrance is an elaborate procession fit for a High Priestess or even a goddess.

Pushed by hundreds of Roman soldiers and welcomed by hundreds of women, Madonna's glorious entrance is a reflection of her status in the entertainment world.

Her first performance was highly influenced by ancient Egypt-Sumeria-Babylon and Madonna’s costume recalls an ancient Babylonian goddess.


The decor of Madonna's first performance combines elements from ancient Egypt, Sumeria and Babylon. Madonna herself is dressed in a way that highly resembles an Ancient Sumerian/Babylonian goddess, Inanna-Ishtar.


Ishtar with her foot on a roaring lion and wearing a distinctive headdress resembling Madonna's horned crown. Ishtar is often depicted with wings, a feature that is recalled on Madonna's "carriage".

Ishtar was a powerful and assertive goddess whose areas of control and influence included warfare, love, sexuality, prosperity, fertility and prostitution. She sought the same existence as men, enjoying the glory of battle and seeking sexual experiences. Madonna’s portrayal as Ishtar is therefore quite interesting as one can argue that the pop singer has embodied, throughout her career, the same assertive yet highly sexual qualities of Ishtar, even achieving a state of power in the music industry that is usually reserved to men. On an esoteric level, Ishtar is associated with the planet Venus, known as the Morning Star or the Evening Star – a name also attributed to Lucifer in occult schools.

So, in this mythologically-charged setting, Madonna performed Vogue. During the performance, covers of Vogue Magazine were displayed, a publication that is at the forefront of Illuminati symbolism in fashion (as seen in the series of articles Symbolic Pics of the Month).

Later in the show, Madonna performed her new single Give Me All Your Luvin’. The song features two new industry favorites: Nikki Minaj and M.I.A. In the song’s music video and during the Superbowl performance, these two female rappers are portrayed in a specific way:  Instead of being presented as full-fledged artists contributing to Madonna’s song, they are portrayed as her “minions” who are cheering for the industry’s High Priestess. This “relationship” where Madonna is in power – and therefore the handler – is drenched in Mind Control symbolism, specifically Beta Programming, also know Sex Kitten Programming.

In the video for Give me Your Luvin', Madonna, Nikki Minaj and M.I.A. are dressed as Marilyn Monroe, the ultimate prototype of Sex Kitten Programming.

Another symbol associated with Sex Kitten programming is feline prints clothing and textiles. The entire half-time show was an animal-print extravaganza.


Like a Prayer  or the Final Sermon

Madonna closed the halftime show with one of her biggest hits: Like a Prayer. The video of this song was always controversial due to its mixing of religious themes with sexuality. As the song starts, the show takes on a very solemn and spiritual vibe as Madonna and Cee-Lo Green enter the stage to give the final sermon. Religious figures are usually dressed in white to represent purity and godliness. The two singers where dressed in black robes and black robes are usually used in…black masses.

As the song begins, a huge eye pupil is displayed before the stage, hinting to the Illuminati-influence of this spiritual performance.

Madonna’s halftime show ends in a dramatic yet very significant matter:


At the end of her performance, the floor opens underneath Madonna's feet and she falls into oblivion.


As Madonna is swept in what appears to be the “Underworld”, Madonna sings “I hear you call my name, And it feels like home”. This is another inversion of conventional religious symbolism as “home” should be in the heavens. In Madonna’s case, she obviously didn’t go in that direction.

The show ends with a message no one can disagree with.

The words "World Peace" appear on the stage, a PR-friendly slogan used by those pushing for a New World Order lead by a one world government.

In Conclusion

When taken individually, the symbols described above can be simply considered as “cool-looking” and most Superbowl viewers did not give them much attention. The packing all of these signs and symbols in one comprehensive 13 minute performance cannot however be dismissed as “random images”. Quite to the contrary, the combination of all of these symbols form a whole and define with great depth the underlying philosophy and Agenda of those in power – the Illuminati. Madonna’s embrace of the Illuminati symbolism discussed on this site coincides with her signing with Interscope Records, one of the main purveyors of Illuminati symbolism in the music industry. Her halftime show performance can therefore be considered as the “launching” of her three-album (and 40 million dollars) relationship with the prominent label. Madonna’s Superbowl performance has shown that, despite the fact that she is an industry icon and that she pioneered most of the themes modern pop stars still exploit, she still needs to fit the mold and to embrace the same symbolism rookie pop stars.

Eddie Cibrian stripped down for the Spring 2012 campaign for luxury home brand, Charisma. The handsome actor posed by the pool in a bed between the sheets, displaying his toned body in the advertisements.

“You have a lot of people on the photo shoot looking at you, going, ‘Oh that looks wonderful, that’s unbelievable ... those [towels] look great,’” he said. “I realized it was all about the product, and not about me.”

Still, Cibrian, who appears in the upcoming Tyler Perry film Good Deeds, makes it pretty hard to focus on those towels ... are we right ladies?

The actor made news earlier this week when his ex-wife Brandi Glanville admitted to slashing the tires of his motorcycle. She stated on the The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion:

“I just took the tires and I put the knife into his motorcycles. Then I told him, ‘Don’t ride them, because you’re probably going to get hurt.’”

It was so thoughtful of her to warn Eddie.

For Douglas Booth playing the lead in next year's highly-anticipated new version of Romeo & Juliet will be no tall order.

"I fell in love at 14 and I remember that mad, tense feeling and all the mad things you do for the person, all those extremes and all the stuff you don't mind putting up with," Booth told us. "I'm not with that person anymore, but I fell in love again and it was even more powerful, maybe deeper."

This year sees Booth, chosen as one of VOGUE.COM's 2012 faces to watch, make his big screen debut. At Christmas he starred as orphaned Pip in the BBC'S adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic Great Expectations, and the year before he took on the role of Boy George. Perhaps best known for his modelling - as the face of Burberry - he insists that this part of his career was an accident.

"I dreamt of being an actor ever since I was young," he said. "I never thought I'd do modelling, I'm so clueless about fashion, but Christopher Bailey is such a lovely guy. Burberry was a very positive side note. Christopher told me it was a campaign starring young actors and that Emma Watson would be in it too - I didn't mind accompanying her!"

It is definitely acting that Booth wants to be famous for. The London-born 19-year-old first took to the stage when he was just 12 - as Agamemnon in a school play - and has been hooked ever since, later joining the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where Orlando Bloom, Daniel Craig and Ewan McGregor all trained.

"I struggled with dyslexia when I was young, so I knew that whatever I did it wouldn't be academic. Then playing Agamemnon - well at the age of 12 - I thought 'I rather like being the centre of attention', this is where I want to be," laughed Booth.

Booth went on to act alongside Dame Maggie Smith and Timothy Spall in Julian Fellowes' From Time To Time, before landing the role of Boy George in last year's television drama Worried About The Boy - which saw him dress up in some colourful costumes.

"I nearly died of exhaustion," Booth recalled. "It was the first time I felt really comfortable on screen - it was really liberating. I spent lots of time with George and actually borrowed a lot of his clothes."

His biggest challenge to date though is his role as Romeo - undoubtedly one of literature's most famous roles and one widely explored in film. Written by Julian Fellowes and set in Verona, the film sees Hailee Steinfeld play Juliet.

"It's pretty daunting, but what an amazing character. And Hailee will be a great Juliet," he said. "The most important thing is really knowing what I'm saying - you have to live the lines. I want to throw away the banner of Romeo and boil it down to two young people fallen in love and having a really tough time. I read this newspaper story recently about a teenage boy who was a gamekeeper. He was cleaning his gun and accidentally shot it, killing his girlfriend. He was so grief-stricken he then killed himself. Romeo & Juliet is still relevant and real."

And how will he recreate that chemistry so masterfully portrayed in Baz Luhrmann's version, starring Booth's acting hero Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes?

"You get to know that person so well during filming, so as long as you get on with each other then it works," explained Booth. "It might look very passionate on screen but in reality it probably wasn't. I don't feel like I've ever kissed any of the people I have done for acting. That moment didn't exist for you, it existed for that person."

“Greedy Lying Bastards,” a film that investigates the fossil fuel industry, has a new executive producer who happens to be well-versed in the art of environmental activism. Daryl Hannah has decided to back first-time filmmaker Craig Rosebraugh’s documentary about the impact that the fossil fuel industry has on politics, profits and the undermining of democracy.


Rosebraugh told the Hollywood Reporter, “Daryl is a gifted actress with an impressive commitment to environmental protection. We are elated to have her on the project.”

Hannah is quite familiar with the tactics and influence that the fossil fuel industry has on politics and the efforts that some will go to in order to silence the protestors. In August of 2011, the “Kill Bill” actress was arrested in front of the White House while protesting the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. She had joined the group Tar Sands Action to protest the extension of the pipeline from Alberta, Canada to refineries in Oklahoma, and on to the US Gulf Coast.

The pipeline was not just opposed by environmental groups like Tar Sands Action but also by the National Resources Defense Council, 50 members of Congress, and many other celebrities.

After Hannah was arrested, she was fined $100 and released. According to the new film she is backing, other protestors and environmental activists have faced fates far worse than paying a fine.

The about film section of Greedy Lying Bastards reads, “Those who have spoken out against the corruption, environmental and health impacts caused by irresponsible business practices have been assaulted, jailed, tortured, and murdered.”

For the past decade Hannah has been an advocate of living a green lifestyle. She is an organic gardener, runs a blog called “dh love life” and drives a bio-diesel El Camino which is currently up for sale. She can also be credited with founding the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance, a group that focuses on three initiatives; independent sustainability certifications, educating the public about the values of community-based biodiesel systems, and providing tools for biodiesel sustainability.

Rosebraugh’s documentary will also feature an original score by Michael Brook, composer of Al Gore’s 2006 film documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Peter Dinklage is back in his Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning role as Tyrion Lannister in “Game of Thrones” Season 2, and he’ll have a new ally in his court as he journeys to King’s Landing beginning April 1 on HBO — Scotsman Daniel Portman as Podrick Payne.



One of the freshest faces in the cast this season, the 19-year-old Glasgow-bred actor is thrown into the heart of the King’s Landing drama upon its return, playing quiet observer Pod, the insecure and youthful squire to the new Hand of the King.



Daniel had just one major credit to his name (British director Ken Loach’s “The Angels Share”) when he was offered the role of the shy and endearing Pod, who shadows and assists the newly raised-up political power player, Tyrion.

A talented sportsman throughout his early teens (he nearly went pro with rugby), who kept up his personal fitness through intense training sessions, Daniel let his six-pack and regular gym routine slide to play the young and far less cut squire Pod.

But axing the weightlifting and workouts was the easy part. When Daniel first realized something lovers of the books already know – Podrick’s interactions are most often with Tyrion – and would therefore pit the rising star opposite the veteran, Daniel told AccessHollywood.com he ended up with a major case of nerves.

As we continue with the second installment in our weekly “Game of Thrones” Season 2 countdown series, AccessHollywood.com caught up across a transatlantic phone line with Daniel to find out how things turned out when he finally met his co-star. First, though, Daniel explains just who is Podrick.

AccessHollywood.com: So who is this young man Podrick as we find him in Season 2? What’s his history?

Daniel Portman: Pod is from a very, very, sort of lowly branch of House Payne. He is a distant cousin of the executioner Ser Ilyn Payne, and he’s really just sort of been passed about for a wee while… a squire from knight to knight and, I think, in the books, it’s almost seen as a bit of a prank that Tyrion’s been landed with this apparently useless squire.

Access: How do you figure into the drama as the season begins? Are you kind of following Tyrion around and bigger things are to come?

Daniel: Yeah, to be honest, he’s introduced very just sort of, as if he’s there, it’s not a big deal that I’m there, I’m just another squire… another piece of help or servantry that just ends up by the end of the season, becoming Tyrion’s sort of personal squire. I think that’s just about all I can give away.

Access: But there are bigger things to come for Pod as the drama heats up, right?

Daniel: Yes. Pod’s not exactly what he seems. Yeah, he’s going to play quite an important role towards the end of the series.

Access: Let’s talk about meeting Peter Dinklage last year – did you meet him before his Emmy win or after?

Daniel: I met him briefly to film one scene that I didn’t have very much to do in — before — and we didn’t really get a chance to talk. It was very hectic. It was a long scene so people were keen to get on with it… I was over in Ireland for about a month solid for my second spell filming… Most of my stuff, if not all my stuff, is with Peter and we ended up just sort of chatting and we ended up getting on like a house on fire. By the end of it, we were really good pals, really good mates. [We had] a good laugh on set together, and I think that will be apparent on the screen for us. As the series goes on, we become, I think, more comfortable with each other, and there’s a bit of realism as our relationship is developed because we ended up becoming better friends as the series went on… I was terrified to meet him. I was absolutely shocked because I think he’s a wonderful actor and I’ve got a huge amount of respect for him. He’s so down to earth and so funny and relaxed.


Access: Had you seen his ‘30 Rock’ appearance?

Daniel: I hadn’t seen that. I’d seen him in [2003’s critically acclaimed film] ‘The Station Agent’ years ago and was just spellbound by it. I thought it was excellent and when I heard I was up for a TV series that he would be involved in, I was very, very excited. And the fact that we were working together was absolutely great because you can learn a lot. As young actor I did learn a lot from watching him.

Access: Did you have to do any training to play Podrick?

Daniel: No… I read up on the character and… we’re quite different in personality. He’s very nervous and very shy and quite weak and he’s not confident in himself in any way. And I’m completely the opposite… I decided — to make it look a little bit better — I’d stop training for a while and I cut some muscle mass and decided to try and put on a wee bit of weight to make myself look a little more endearing.

Access: Scrawny?

Daniel: Not scrawny… [I wanted to make it] so he looks a wee bit out of place when he’s in his clothes and folks sort of look at him in a strange way. That’s why I did it. It wouldn’t look terribly authentic if this shy, like crippling nervous boy comes up with a six-pack and was busting out of his shirts. I thought that would probably best if I cut my regime for a bit and let myself go a wee bit so I looked… more convincing.

Access: In the books, Pod’s about 12. Emilia Clarke’s character, Daenerys, is 14 or 15, but they aged everyone up in the show. Have you figured out how old your character is?

Daniel: I’m looking at it as if Pod is 16… There are kids that age around that have grown up much quicker than he has and he’s been kind of left behind… The way I was looking at it was to keep the weakness and the awkwardness prevalent I thought it would be nice if he was sort of in between being a teenager and sort of grown up into a young man – and that sort of awkward stage a lot of boys get themselves into and they’re not comfortable in their body. They’re really clumsy, and they think they look terrible all the time.

Access: You read for other ‘GOT’ parts before you landed this one. Looking back, did it work out for the best – you get to work in scenes with primarily one person?

Daniel: For me, it’s definitely worked out for the best, because I’ve… only really started out a few years ago. I’m not that experienced in [this] and the fact that, you know Pod’s there or there abouts. He’s not a major player in terms of speaking. He doesn’t say that much because of the nerves, but having the opportunity to play around with my face and what I’m doing and… you’re right, it’s usually smaller scale stuff, I’m usually working just with Peter or with Peter and Jerome [Flynn, who plays Bronn]. It has worked out for the best.

Access: How much of George R. R. Martin’s books have you read?

Daniel: I had watched the first series and then read the first two books before I was involved in it just because I thought it was great and I wanted to read on a bit. Now that I’m involved, I’ve read up to the third book and I’m not gonna go any further just now. I don’t really want to race ahead and make [acting] decisions and things like that.

Access: The ‘GOT’ fans are a dedicated community. As soon as people found out you were cast, did your life change? (Click HERE to follow Daniel on Twitter)

Daniel: Yes, it did. It’s strange. I’m a point of conversation for my friends. My friends will talk to people who read the books or they’ll bring it up in the pub or in public — something like that… because it’s one of the hottest series on the planet. Everyone’s going daft over it. They’re going mad over the thought of it and it’s just been pretty surreal… Even the fan sites, you know, Winter Is Coming, and Westeros, and things like that, they keep up to date with the cast and they had the photo up when I was cast and I was recognized a few times when I was in Glasgow by real diehard fans of the books. People came up and asked me if I was the boy who was going to be playing Podrick Payne, so it’s been fantastic. Very surreal, very surreal.
