SPOILERS: Do not read this if you have not seen Being Human ‘The Trinity’
When we left our unholy troika at the Honolulu Heights last year Hal (Damien Molony) was strapped to a chair, yelling profanities at newly-created ghost Alex (Kate Bracken) and Tom (Michael Socha). Meanwhile Annie (Lenora Crichlow) averted a vampiric dystopian nightmare and crossed over to the afterlife with baby Eve.
Now we return to them in much the same state but a little bit further on: Hal’s blood lust is still a source of concern, Tom is just as innocent as before, and Alex is still dead.
Much like last year this series will be following one continuous story arc and this week set the agenda for what the audience can expect. This time the focus will be on the rise of the devil aka Captain Hatch (Phil Davis) and a shady organisation run by Dominic Rook (Steven Robertson).
It’s safe to say that the Being Human baton has successfully been passed on to Molony, Socha and Bracken. They are great to watch and very different to their predecessors in a way that leaves comparisons to one side. The format is more structured than the first three series and this gives the programme more drive and direction.
However, the core principles of the show remain the same, namely that Being Human is about three supernatural beings trying to live and integrate into society. While Hal and Tom’s stories have been explored, this episode gave an insight into Alex attempting to adjust to her ghostly existence.
It’s unsurprising that she wants to pass over because out of the three of them she is the most restricted. Humans can’t see her, she can’t change her clothes, and she can’t experience basic things such as the taste of chocolate. Bracken gives a heartfelt performance as Alex and conveys perfectly her pain and frustration of being trapped.
The Trinity essentially established the new supernatural threesome and by the end of the episode there was a sense of acceptance. They are all isolated creatures of the night but by the same token they have each other. This is yet another chapter in the Being Human narrative.
Veteran thespian Phil Davis is always marvellous and in The Trinity he is wickedly evil (and brilliant) as Captain Hatch, veering from foul mouth sailor speak to polite pleasantries. He makes a strong villain and the presence of his character once more broadens the horizons of Being Human from simply a battle between werewolves and vampires. Judging by Alex’s sniping remark about the Twilight franchise, the programme is looking to define itself in the already overcrowded vampire/werewolf arena with something new.
Admittedly The Trinity does have its shortcomings, it is rather dull and does not have the same explosive start as last year. Given that it’s the series opener, usually viewers expect an enthralling rollercoaster ride but episode 1 felt quite lax but perhaps this series will be more of a slow burn that will gradually build up to an exciting climax.
Next week on Being Human… Can ghosts be afraid of other ghosts? The house appears to be haunted by something apart from Alex and it seems to be coming for her. Meanwhile Rook ominously says that the hour is approaching – something wicked is coming this way.
For some, Beyonce's Super Bowl halftime show was to be the Big Game's finest moment. But for all who tuned in to see the singer perform, it's clear she brought her A game.
Beyonce worked through a medley of her hits, including "Love on Top," "Crazy in Love," "End of Time," and "Baby Boy" before she was joined by Destiny's Child bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. The trio started with "Bootylicious" and worked through "Independent Woman" before collaborating on "Single Ladies," which is a Beyonce song.
Rowland and Williams then left the stage, leaving Beyonce to perform "Halo" solo.
The show featured plenty of fire, ice and smoke, with Beyonce appearing on a rising platform. She was clad in an all-black ensemble with heels and a leather-like get-up. Early in the set, she threw her jacket into the audience. At some point, she used a screen that recalled her 2011 Billboard Music Awards performance.
Before the game started, Jennifer Hudson and a chorus of children from Sandy Hook Elementary School sang "America the Beautiful." Alicia Keys then performed the national anthem while seated at a piano.
Last year, Madonna headlined the show. She was joined by Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and LMFAO. The show was perhaps most notable for M.I.A.'s decision to give the middle finger to the camera, and the 114 million people who were watching at home. Given its massive viewership (3 million more people watched the halftime show than the game itself), headlining the event often translates into a sizable increase in sales of the performer's music.
A number of music's biggest names have performed at past Super Bowls, including Ella Fitzgerald, Andy Williams, The Rolling Stones, Prince, The Who, Gloria Estefan and, of course, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. Early games featured only college marching bands, and for quite a few years, Up With People performed. More information on the history of the halftime show is available in our earlier coverage.
This year, pre-game speculation centered on two main questions: Will Destiny's Child reunite, and will Beyonce lip-sync like she did at Barack Obama's inauguration? Though she was mum on the first point (and bandmate Michelle Williams did her best to jumble rumors of a DC reunion), Beyonce tackled the lip-syncing question head-on in a Super Bowl press conference on Thursday.
"I will absolutely be singing live," she said ahead of Sunday's performance. "I am well-rehearsed. This is what I was born to do."
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Lavonne "Pepper" Paire-Davis, a star of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 1940s and an inspiration for the central character in the movie "A League of Their Own," has died, her son said Sunday.
Paire-Davis died of natural causes in the Van Nuys section of Los Angeles on Saturday, her son, William Davis, told The Associated Press. She was 88. Paire-Davis was a model for the character played by Geena Davis in the 1992 hit "A League of Their Own," which also starred Rosie O'Donnell, Madonna and Tom Hanks as the crusty manager who shouted the famous line, "there's no crying in baseball!"
In 1944, Paire-Davis joined the league, created out of fear that World War II would interrupt Major League Baseball, and played for 10 seasons. She was a catcher and shortstop, and helped her teams win five championships. She chronicled her baseball adventures in the 2009 book "Dirt in the Skirt."
"I know what it's like for your dream to come true, mine did," Paire-Davis said in an AP story in 1995, when she was 70. "Baseball was the thing I had the most fun doing. It was like breathing." After graduating from high school, she enrolled at UCLA as an English major, worked as a welder's assistant at the shipyards in Long Beach, and spent every spare moment playing in local softball leagues. Her heart, however, belonged to hardball. "Don't get me wrong, I was glad to be playing softball," she said in 1995. "But I'd rather have played competitive baseball."
The All American Girls Baseball League was founded in 1943 by Chicago Cubs owner Philip K. Wrigley. Most of the league's talent came from greater Chicago, but Paire-Davis was one of a half-dozen players scouted and chosen from California. The players wore skirts and the teams often had cutesy names, but the players maintained a genuine big league lifestyle, playing 120 games over four months. "We played every night of the week," Paire-Davis said, "doubleheaders on Sundays and holidays."
She won championships with the Racine Belles, the Grand Rapids Chicks and the Fort Wayne Daisies, but she never actually played for the team featured in the film, the Rockford Peaches."That's Hollywood," she said. "They had to take 10 teams and 12 years and make it into two hours." The league was "temporarily suspended" in 1954. Play was never resumed.
Davis said his mother spent much of the rest of her life as a sports fan — she rooted for the Dodgers, Angels and Lakers — and an advocate for her favorite game. "She taught me how to switch hit when I was 3 years old," said Davis, one of two sons, a daughter, four grandkids and an older brother who survived Paire-Davis. "She touched a lot of people around the world with her baseball exploits. She was a great ambassador for the game."
Paire-Davis said, looking back from 1995, that she couldn't "honestly tell you I knew the history we were making back then." But, she said, "I can tell you we knew we were doing something special."
She's the fourth one on the front row

Monday Feb. 25 (9:00-9:30 p.m., ET/PT), EW has learned.
In the season premiere, “Speed Trapped,” Adam, Bree, and Chase sneak out to meet Marcus (Mateus Ward) in Davenport’s (Hal Sparks) new self-driving sports car. When Leo tries to stop them, his nemesis Marcus traps him inside the car and programs it to take him on a wild, high-speed ride bound for the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
...beginning Saturday, Feb. 9, DisneyXD.com will post “Lab Rats: Who Is Marcus?,” a short-form series that gives a sneak peek at Leo’s video logs, in which he’s trying to uncover the truth about Mission Creek High School’s creepiest new student.
...on the the same day as the premiere “Lab Rats: Leo’s Stealth Ops,” a new online game inspired by Tyrel Jackson Williams, will launch, along with behind-the-scenes videos.
Does anyone else watch this show? It's decent: Wizards of Waverly Place quality when it was good.
Plus, it has Hal Sparks in a recurring role.
Mods, I uploaded the pics to my lj album to prevent hotlinking.
According to a February 2 report, one of Gary's close friends recently witnessed photos that Jenelle had allegedly taken during her miscarriage. While that may seem like an odd thing to do to some, this is Jenelle and she live tweeted during her miscarriage, so why wouldn't she have gone as far as to take photos of it?
"Got to see JE's 'miscarriage' pics... Hmmmm," the friend wrote. When someone replied wondering if the photos looked like a menstrual period, he said it looked "more like food coloring in a shower and in a toilet," and also that it was the "wrong color for blood."
Since announcing her pregnancy in the tabloids in mid-January, fans everywhere speculated that it was a publicity stunt and even predicted that she would then miscarry. It's definitely a possibility but with Jenelle's drug use, if there was a baby, it definitely wouldn't have a good chance. Plus, Gary himself admitted that she was smoking marijuana before she had a miscarriage and also during her pregnancy, messages from her to a friend were revealed regarding her addiction to Hydrocodone.
Courtland Rogers may be heartbroken over his failed marriage to Jenelle Evans, but he isn’t making an effort when it comes to fixing it with her. She refuses to talk to him because she has filed abuse charges against him, but he isn’t exactly speaking out positively on Twitter. In fact, according to a new tweet released on Feb. 2, “Teen Mom” star Jenelle Evans’ husband Courtland is now speaking out against Jenelle when it comes to the rumored show cancellation.
Rumor has it that Jenelle Evans is the reason why the show may be cancelled. With all of her arrests, drug problems, abuse claims and troubled relationships, MTV was rumored to be cancelling the show. And while she denies the rumor, Courtland is speaking out about it.“I feel so bad for kail, chelsea n leah its not fair that they have to loose out on this oppurtunity because of a jenelle !! its not right,” Courtland tweeted after learning of the supposed cancellation.
“Teen Mom” star Jenelle Evans’ husband Courtland was accused of only dating Jenelle to get a part of her spotlight. His ex-girlfriend Taylor claimed that Courtland was only pursuing Jenelle because she was famous, even though he denied it. Now, Jenelle may be believing those rumors, because she isn’t giving him a chance to fix the marriage.
Do you think the show is being cancelled because of Jenelle? And why do you think “Teen Mom” star Jenelle Evans’ husband Courtland is speaking out about the cancellation?

Hot fucking mess central. It's a good thing MTV is no longer funding this train wreck. I'm surprised she didn't put her fake pictures on Instagram.

She dressed for the sun in a pair or check shorts and a grey vest. Wearing her blonde hair up in a high ponytail, she wore socks with her trainers. The star made a trip to the West Lake Village Animal Hospital and they walked out with two little puppies, one which appears to be the famous Hannah, who even has her own Twitter account. They both appeared to be fine but apparently Hannah has been having difficulties breathing recently.
I don’t think so honey #VivaLasVegas
Actress Riisa Naka (23) took to twitter to express her outrage over the dating ban imposed on AKB48 members.
The latest scandal engulfing the group involves Minami Minegishi (20), who shaved her hair in penance for breaking AKB48's dating rules after it was reported by tabloid Shukan Bunshun that she had spent the night at her boyfriend's place. Naka publicly criticized the no-dating rule through a series of tweets.
"I feel bad that (Minegishi) can't experience dating like any other normal person. That much she should be allowed, she's human after all," wrote the actress.
"Idols should only be expected to be idols when they're on TV. If you can't respect someone's privacy then you have no business calling yourself a fan," Naka also said.
When asked by her followers what she would do if her agency tried to impose a dating ban on her, Naka candidly answered "I would disregard it entirely, lol."
"You only live once so I say make the most of it!! A dating ban is a dehumanizing rule," she added.

The latest oddball individual to be profiled on My Strange Addiction — TLC’s series about people with unusual habits and lifestyles — gets her kicks when she licks her cat, and then eat the hair it sheds.
“The best ones are right off the cat,” said Lisa, who’s been engaging in the unusual practice for 15 years.
The 43-year-old Detroit native, comparing herself to “a mama cat … with her kittens,” said that the bizarre habit enhances her bond with the feline.
“Just chewing it is relaxing,” said Lisa, who often grooms the cat directly with her tongue. “It’s a comforting feeling, her fur is such an interesting texture. So soft and puffy and like cotton candy.”
Lisa, who gobbles the bite-size clumps of hair as if they were hors d’oeuvres, said that in no way does her habit border on bestiality, as she doesn’t get as involved as another cat would.
“I’m not licking her butt!”
Bitch is nasty, TLC is such a hot mess...what are your addictions, ONTD? Mine are shopping and vodka.
'Jem' Collector Dolls Are Getting The Band Back Together With Series 2: The Holograms
As you might already know, we're a pretty obsessive group here at ComicsAlliance, and one of our biggest obsessions is Jem and the Holograms, the truly outrageous story of a glam band built on a secret identities and bizarre adventures. Naturally, we were all pretty stoked when Integrity Toys launched their new series of pricey Jem collector dolls, although to be honest, that first wave felt a little lacking. Sure, Jerrica and her alter-ego are a must, but Rio and Synergy? C'mon. This ain't amateur night.
The second wave includes Kimber, (keytar, backing vocals, sibling rivalry), Aja (lead guitar, concern for orphans) and Shana (drums, guitar, aspirations of a career in fashion that are frequently made moot by the fact that the band has a sentient hologram-projecting computer). Unfortunately, the Misfits have yet to be released, which means you can't re-enact all the subtext of "The Bands Break UP" with Kimber and Stormer, but one assumes that'll be the focus of a third wave.
The dolls are set to retail for the (truly outrageous) price of $119 each, shipping in late March or early April. That's a hefty fee, but what price is too high for this much glamour, glitter, fashion and fame?
I will own them all eventually tbh .....
If you enjoyed the Amy Poehler ad for Best Buy during the Super Bowl you’ll be thrilled to know there is a longer version.
Considering Amy Poehler’s background in improv comedy, you have to wonder how much of this commercial was scripted and how much of it was just her running around being manic.
Many brides want to be princesses on their big day, but one young woman actually became one: Ariel, the little mermaid.
Aspiring actress Jamie Chandler, 26, loves Disney so much that her entire wedding was devoted to the studio's iconic fairytales, going so far as to embody her favorite redheaded character, complete with a stuffed Flounder bearing witness. It's an unconventional fandom, one that brought her together with husband Christopher, 27, also an avid supporter of the Magic Kingdom.
"We both share a mutual love for the lightheartedness that Disney embodies," Jamie Chandler told TODAY.com. "Disney was a large part of both of our lives while growing up, and it is something that we both associate with family."
Photos of the Chandlers' fall 2011 wedding, which were recently published online, went viral, with commenters calling it everything from "awesomely creative" to "crazy" to bemoaning "those poor unfortunate souls."
But for Jamie and Christopher, it was simply an obvious choice for the wedding – the O'Fallon, Missouri couple both grew up singing along to the animated musicals and regularly visiting Disney World, a tradition that extended into adulthood and ultimately into marriage. In 2009, Christopher got down on one knee at Disney World and presented Jamie with a glass slipper, which held an engagement ring.
When it came time to plan their nuptials, Disney World seemed an obvious choice, but the couple lacked the means to invite all their friends and family. "We decided that if we could not go to Disney, then we would bring a little bit of Disney to us," said Jamie. "We wanted our guests to feel what it was like to be a kid again."
The couple spent the next two years planning and saving up for their ultimate fantasy wedding, and worked hard to keep it DIY. They crafted the centerpieces, invitations, programs, flowers and more themselves to keep costs down.
Of course, they also got some help from loved ones. Jamie's father made his own King Triton crown, the groomsmen embraced their villain alter-egos, and the maid of honor designed all of the bridesmaids' princess-themed gowns. "We asked each bridesmaid who their favorite Disney heroine was and tried to take that into account when deciding who would dress as who," Jamie explained.
When the wedding day finally came, Jamie felt as if her dreams had finally come true. "There was not a single moment of the day that was any less magical than the one that came before it... Everyone dropped their guards for a few hours and allowed themselves to be childlike and to play, which is exactly what we intended."
(The couple made their own sea-accented centerpieces.)
(An ice mermaid takes center stage at the reception.)
But for the time being, the couple will make do with their favorite tradition: "We usually try to make it to Disney World as many times as we can," said Jamie. "It has always been our playground."
What are your thoughts on theme weddings, ONTD? I'd be more of a traditionalist for my own, but I think a theme wedding would be more fun to attend as a guest. That said, I'm still on the fence as to whether this is really cute or kind of tacky...
