From a recent interview with PrideSource...

On being totally connected to the LGBT community:"You know, I was so disappointed that I didn't have a gay sibling. I was disappointed that I wasn't gay even!"

Then again...:"You know my honest opinion? Everybody’s gay. It is a strictly human thing. You can’t put a gender on love... I’m open to loving anybody. It’s about the person. I don’t think it’s about sexuality at all."

On celebs who come out as gay for attention:"I'll tell you who's the worst with it: young female celebrities. And I'm like, I know you. I've known you pretty much since before you used to shit outside of a diaper. You are not gay!... I’ve marched till my feet bled for the right of equal love in the gay community, and you’re just gonna step in because it looks cool for you and now tell everybody that you’re a lesbian when you’ve never even seen another puss that’s not yours so you can get attention?"

About what happened at the show’s London premiere last week when Ridley was confronted by a question about why the lead female of the series (Pinto) is not African-American when the story is about the Black Power Movement.

Ridley : “London in the ‘70s was such a multi-cultural society. I assumed others were aware of it. I’ll never shy away from representing other people.”

Pinto : "i took the moment as the start of someone else’s education. I need to value their opinion, even if it’s different from mine. Not being tolerant is completely the opposite of what the show is about.”

Snoop Dogg introduces Tupac Shakur posthumously into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Snoop and Tupac were born the same year (1971), though on different sides of the country. In the video Snoop talks about his friendship with Pac, the rap scene in the 90s and how he gave him his first blunt.

He also touched on visiting Tupac in the hospital after being shot:
Memories of Mrs. Shakur are embedded in my mind. Right after I heard Tupac got shot, I immediately flew to Vegas. I walked in the room and seen him laid out with all of these tubes and shit in him. I was so weak, I damn near fell over. And his mom came over to me and grabbed me and held me up. She said, "Baby you gotta be strong. Be strong."

I went and sat next to him and was whispering to him ... telling him I loved him and to hold on and that he was gonna be ok. Even in that moment, his mom was thinking more about me than herself and showing me how to love strong. It was amazing to me that his mama was so strong and loved so hard.

    'My Lady Jane'

'My Lady Jane' by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows

About: The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.

At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane is about to become the Queen of England.

    Etiquette & Espionage

'Etiquette & Espionage' by Gail Carriger

About: It's one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It's quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to Finishing School.

Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is a great trial to her poor mother. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper manners--and the family can only hope that company never sees her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. So she enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.

But Sophronia soon realizes the school is not quite what her mother might have hoped. At Mademoiselle Geraldine's, young ladies learn to finish...everything. Certainly, they learn the fine arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but they also learn to deal out death, diversion, and espionage--in the politest possible ways, of course. Sophronia and her friends are in for a rousing first year's education.

Trailer for HBO true-crime documentary "Mommy Dead and Dearest"

    - airs May 15 on HBO, directed by Erin Lee Carr; yay female directors
    - premiered at SXSW last month to good reviews [at least of the ones I found]
    - tells the story of the 2015 murder of Dee Dee Blancharde and the disappearance of her chronically ill daughter Gypsy Rose
    - it gets crazier from there. Not sure how much to give away here, but HERE is an excellent (and long) BuzzFeed piece about it (and there's also a My Favorite Murder ep)

Are you as morbidly fascinated by this story as I am, ONTD? Do you like true-crime documentaries?
