'Sharkwater' director Rob Stewart is missing off the coast of Islamorada Florida.

Rob Stewart, the Toronto filmmaker and conservationist is missing after a night dive off the Florida Keys while on a shoot for the follow-up to his award-winning documentary, “Sharkwater”.

Stewart and two friends were on a night dive in waters up to 70 metres – the deepest dive Stewart has ever completed – near a shipwreck close to Islamorada when Stewart disappeared under the waves.

Stewart was last seen around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday evening near the dive boat and reportedly gave the thumbs up symbol, indicating he was okay following the dive. “He said ‘I’m okay,'” MacLeod says. When one of the three divers blacked out, Stewart’s friend dove into the water to rescue the unconscious diver. When he surfaced with the diver, Stewart was gone.

Accoding to Sea Shepard, the boat crew members think Rob passed out as well and floated off. Hoping he is safe, and is found soon. This is very, very sad. :(

You can help by visiting the gofundme page and donating - this allows them to get more helicopters etc. looking for him. People can survive for 72 hours at sea, so hopefully he gets found.

Hidden Figures Director Admits That White Savior-esque Scenes Were Added To Film

0
0

Director Theodore Melfi admitted to adding several fictitious storylines to Hidden Figures.  His reasoning:

“There needs to be white people who do the right thing,” he said. There needs to be Black people who do the right thing and someone does the right thing. And so who cares who does the right thing, as long as the right thing is achieved?

Uh. huh.  The problem is these fictional white knight moments come at two major points in the movie:

Katherine Johnson and the 'colored' restroom discrimination

A large part of the movie involves watching Johnson need to run across campus to the 'colored' restroom because her new workspace accommodated whites only.  After an impassioned speech by Johnson, her boss (played by Kevin Coster) takes a hammer to the 'colored' restroom sign and states that all staff may use any bathroom because, 'Here at NASA, we all pee the same blood'.

Margot Lee Shetterly, Hidden Figures' original author, stated that Johnson refused to use the 'colored' restrooms and used any toilet she damn pleased.  Why not give us a montage of Johnson leaving racist white women shook as she leaves a 'whites only' stall instead of acting like she waited for permission?

Watching John Glenn's success from Mission Control

As Johnson delivers the calculations needed for John Glenn's re-entry from space, the movie protrays her being initially shut out from the Mission Control room, only for a white dude to beckon her in as she starts to walk away.  Instead Johnson was denied access and forced to watch the transmission from her desk.
-------------

This is not to say there weren't moments of respect towards black persons in the film or the real life story.  John Glenn truely trusted Katherine Johnson's work and NASA permitted Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson to forward the space program by giving them more control in the workplace.  But these women had to fight for every inch of control that was already well deserved, and giving part of that fight away to white characters for fictiously doing the right thing on screen decades later (but not in real life) has no place in historical films.

Overall I still adore this movie and its message, but I hope being called out on this will deter future films from unecessary white savior storylines in majority POC films.

- After Donald Trump's comments at the National Prayer Breakfast inevitably devolved into talking about "Celebrity Apprentice" ratings, Trump remarking that they're in the toilet, "it's been a total disaster"[no kidding], and that they should pray for Schwarzenegger's ratings, Schwarzenegger quickly posted a video on twitter and issued a statement to ABC News through his spokesman.

- On twitter, he proposes they switch jobs so everyone can sleep at night, while his written statement says that "Arnold is praying that President Trump can start improving his own approval ratings, which were the worst in history for an incoming president, by taking his job seriously and working inclusively."

All the eliminated girls came back and participated in a dancing challenge against the remaining girls. Justine passed out during the dancing practice and was taken away in an ambulance. Each dancer tried out for the lead spot of their "squad," which was the challenge this week. The winner from squad A (the remaining girls) was Paige and the winner from squad B (the eliminated girls) was Tash.

While the other girls were practicing their dancing at the house for the shoot, Marissa was canoodling with Kyle, despite Marissa having a ton of problems with the dancing during the practice.

For the shoot, they shot a "Bad Blood"-inspired video with squad against squad, with guest star French Montana. Drew called Marissa out for not having energy while dancing and ofc she talked back, both at the shoot and and judging, though she wasn't berated very harshly in either instance.

Vikings s5 trailer + Cast Interviews (Spoilers!)

0
0

  • Season 5 opens with Sigurd's funeral and Ivar weeping over his brothers death. Ivar's complicated because he doesn't think about doing things, he just does them and in cases like this regrets them terribly.

  • Sigurd's murder was not a defining moment for Ivar, he's already done things like this, it's just another part of his character.

  • There's going to be a lot of conflict between the brothers because of Ivar killing Sigurd.

  • Ecbert signing over the land will have huge reprecussions for his family.

  • JRM is playing the warrior bishop Heahmund, he's sort of the precursor to the Knights of Templar.

  • He's "prone to passion" despite being extremely religious. So he takes advantage of women who admire him and then punishes himself for these sins.

  • Hirst needed a Christian soldier character who could stand up to Ivar, both in terms of stregnth and in terms of charismatic acting.

  • Despite Ivar becoming more of a man in season 5, he's still a little kid in many ways and that comes out when he murders Sigurd.

  • He'll continue to struggle with controlling himself in season 5.

  • In season 5 Ivar is out of touch with his emotions and reality in general. He's determined, angry, violent and also "in love."

  • Ivar will attempt to get revenge on Lagertha in season 5, because he's never going to forget that she killed his mother and he's not going to be able to rest while she's alive.
