NEW YORK (AP) — Nicki Minaj has canceled her appearance at this weekend's V Festival in the United Kingdom because of damage to her vocal cords.

Her representative says in an email that Minaj will have to back out of her shows on Saturday and Sunday because of "strained vocal cords."

Minaj performed a free concert in New York City on Wednesday, though she had been advised by her doctor to rest.

Her rep now says her voice is "worse," and that recent X-rays show that the singer-rapper must "rest her voice for a few days."

The two-day V Festival also features The Killers, David Guetta, LMFAO and The Stone Roses.

Minaj performed for more than two hours at her New York show. It featured Drake, Lil Wayne and Foxy Brown.

Tom Hardy & Michael Shannon Taking ‘The Long Red Road’

0
Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon are attached to topline "The Long Red Road" in the first feature from newly-minted Whipsmart, headed by longtime producer Paul Neesan and Houston steel magnate Richard Fant.
Hardy is reprising his role as Sam in Brett C. Leonard's play of the same name, in which he attempts to drink away his demons on an Indian reservation in South Dakota. When a visitor from his past arrives, Sam has to take a hard look at the man he's become and the life he left behind.
Shannon is on board to play the older brother of Hardy's character.

"The Long Red Road" premiered in 2010 at the Goodman Theater in Chicago with Philip Seymour Hoffman directing. It's uncertain if Hoffman will be attached to direct the feature version.
Leonard, a former writer/producer on HBO's "Hung" and a longtime member of New York's Labyrinth Theater Company, will write the screen adaptation. He was also recently tapped to adapt Frederick Exley Jr.'s "A Fan's Notes."
Whipsmart was formed earlier this year by Neesan, who had been head of production for Kerner Entertainment, and New Process Steel CEO Fant.
Neesan and Fant will produce with Leonard and Whipsmart VP Kyle Peck exec producing.
Fant has supplied Whipsmart with a "substantial" development fund and will finance some of the projects. Neeson exec produced both "Smurfs" films and "Charlotte's Web."
Hardy, who portrays Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises," will next be seen in "Lawless" and is currently filming George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road" for Warner Bros.
Shannon, a regular on "Boardwalk Empire," will be seen in "Premium Rush" and in the role of General Zod in Warner's "Man of Steel" next summer.

Azealia Banks talks abusive mother and early sexuality

0
0

In other rap news, Azealia Banks is getting extra personal in her interviews as of late.  In her newest Dazed & Confused cover story (the magazine that was banned in several countries because of its risque cover shot), she opened up about her rough childhood.

She previously she said her mother helped her feel like they were richer than they actually were and kept her laced with nice things, even though they lived in the hood.  Now, in this new cover story, Ms. Banks said her mother also became abusive when Azealia's father died of pancreatic cancer:

'We grew up in the hood, but we had some money. But I moved out when I was 14 to go live with my older sister, because my mom just had, well... issues.'

'After my dad died, my mom became really abusive – physically and verbally.

'Like she would hit me and my sisters with baseball bats, bang our heads up against walls, and she would always tell me I was ugly.'

'I remember once she threw out all the food in the fridge, just so we wouldn’t have anything to eat.

'It was like growing up a feral child, being raised by this person who was always yelling and screaming, hitting you and dragging you around and s***.'

And about her early sexuality:

'Growing up I was so curious about boys. I just loved them.

'I’d always get my recesses taken away for letting boys touch my butt in the lunch line I got in trouble for fooling around in school a lot.

'I just wanted to be touched, ya know? I just wanted to have sex.

'And my mom was always working so there was never anyone around to tell me no.'

Interesting.  The issue is on stands now....where it's not banned.

James Gunn In Talks to Direct Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

0
0

James Gunn has emerged as Marvel Studios' choice to direct its upcoming space superhero saga Guardians of the Galaxy.

After a lengthy search, sources say that Marvel executives now are talking exclusively with Gunn, whose previous credits include the genre films Slither and Super. The studio is said not to have ruled out others in the running — Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) and Half Nelson helming team Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden were in the mix, according to sources — in case talks with Gunn's reps do not lead to a deal.

Marvel is said to like Gunn's sensibility and his ability to mix comedy elements with action and horror, a quality he shares with The Avengers director Joss Whedon, who, with his exclusive contract with Marvel, is now a major architect of the company's expanding universe.

Marvel declined to comment.

Galaxy is the first original title in Marvel’s “Phase 2" of movies, which also includes Iron Man 3, sequels to Captain America and Thor, and Avengers 2.

Marvel officially announced the movie at Comic-Con. Earlier this month, THR reported that it hired Chris McCoy to rewrite the space adventure movie, which had a previous draft of a script by Nicole Perlman.

While there have been several incarnations of the Guardians team in the comics over the years, the movie’s lineup will include Drax the Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the Avengers final-scene tease); Groot, a giant tree-man; Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien intergalactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.

Earlier this week a logline made the rounds describing the plot as concerning “a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants."

If a deal comes together, it would mark yet another unconventional director choice for a big Marvel movie. The studio raised eyebrows by handing over Iron Man to a then-untested Jon Favreau, Thor to Kenneth Branagh, who was known for arthouse pics, and The Avengers to TV showrunner Whedon. All the movies became international hits.

Guardians would be a major break for Gunn, who is best known for directing the low-budget Super and Slither. Super, released in 2010, is an indie action comedy starring Rainn Wilson and Liv Tyler about a schlub who decides to be a superhero despite lacking any skills. Slither is a horror comedy made by Gold Circle Films that starred Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Banks. Slither only made $7.7 million domestically, though a galactic sum compared to Super’s $322,000 domestic take.

But Gunn, who wrote Warner Bros’s live-action Scooby-Doo movie and its sequel, has a cult following and rose through the moviemaking machine of low-budget farm Troma Entertainment, run by genre king Lloyd Kaufman.

♡ The Return of DJ P ♡

Paris Hilton, the pulchritudinous entrepreneur and icon of modern celebrity made her exultant return as a DJ at the Gotha Club in Cannes. Paris is currently enjoying an amazing summer vacation and just having a Good Time!

I tweeted Antony Preston, one of the main song writers involved with Paris' house-pop album, asking about a monster ballad that Paris had recorded earlier this year. Anthony had previously praised the song and also Paris' vocals on it. While there are still no dates for when (or if) any new music from Paris will be released, there is still information to be known and Antony shared this:

the song's produced by MachoPsycho, who have worked with the likes of Justin Timberlake, and Pink. Hopefully with Paris playing DJ again, her passion for music will be reignited once more and a single will drop. On the 22nd of August, it will be the sixth anniversary of Paris' influencial debut album.

Emma and Andrew pulled over by officer in Malibu

Spider-Man is only allowed to use his superhuman speed to fight crime, not when he's behind the wheel ... so when Andrew Garfield was speeding through Malibu with Emma Stone yesterday ... he got busted.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" co-stars (who are a couple in real life) got a surprise visit from a cargo-shorts-wearing LA County Sheriff (above) ... when Garfield was pulled over for having a lead foot. We're told he was cited for speeding and then sent on his merry way.

It's unclear how fast he was going or if he was on a mission to rescue someone.

Seems unlikely though.

Showjumper Ellen Whitaker splits from Superman Henry Cavill as he heads to Hollywood

Split: Actor Henry Cavill and Professional Show Jumper Ellen Whitaker, pictured in June, have broken up after three years

Superman actor Henry Cavill has split up with his international showjumper fiancee Ellen Whitaker.

They have called time on their three-year romance just as Henry is shooting to Hollywood stardom – Superman Man Of Steel is due out next year and Henry is reportedly being earmarked for a starring role in the forthcoming Fifty Shades Of Grey movie. Fuck this noise.

Meanwhile Ellen, part of the famous Whitaker equestrian dynasty, is said to have moved to Newcastle with her best friend Jennifer.

Another of Ellen’s friends confirmed the split and said: ‘They just weren’t getting on.’

Ellen, 26, met Jersey-born Henry, 29, at the 2009 Olympia International Horse Show. She had just ended a long-term relationship but Henry wooed her and eventually won her heart.

In May 2011 he proposed in a Hollywood hotel and a delighted Ellen said at the time: ‘I couldn’t believe it when he asked me to marry him.

'I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy.’

But the pair haven’t been seen together since June, with Henry spending more time carving out his career in America while Ellen concentrates on her horses.

In London last week for an Olympics closing party at Omega House, a stony-faced Henry said of the engagement: ‘I’ll talk about that another time. This summer I am taking time off and relaxing.’

Ellen, the niece of Olympic showjumpers John and Michael Whitaker, was banned from driving for 18 months last year after being caught more than twice over the drink-drive limit on the way back from a charity ball in Cheshire.

'Perception' renewed for a second season on TNT

TNT is giving a second look to its crime drama "Perception."

The cable channel has renewed the series, which stars Eric McCormack as an eccentric neuroscientist (and paranoid schizophrenic) who consults with the FBI on cases, for a second season. The show has enjoyed strong ratings so far airing behind "The Closer" and will be paired with "Major Crimes" for the rest of the season.

"'Perception' has captured the imagination of TNT's audience of armchair detectives with wonderfully intricate cases, emotionally charged situations and, of course, a terrific cast led by Eric McCormack," TNT president and head of programming Michael Wright says. The cast also includes Rachael Leigh CookArjay Smith and Kelly Rowan.

So far this season the show is averaging 7 million viewers per episode (including DVR viewing), with about a third of that audience falling in TNT's sweet spot of adults 25-54.

Season 2 of "Perception" will run 13 episodes and premiere sometime next year.

The Little Mermaid Gets Plastic Surgery In Questionable New Ad

0
0

Surely a Disney princess, she of the impossibly bouncy hair and whittled waist, doesn't need any work done, right?

Well, don't ask a plastic surgeon that, because apparently, the iconic Little Mermaid was a prime candidate for few procedures (OBVIOUSLY! She's such a hag.) BuzzFeed's Copyranter spotted this ad from Clinica Dempere, a plastic surgery center in Venezuela, who decided to give Ariel the old nip and tuck anyway in a new spot for their services.

Watch as Ariel escapes from the evil Ursula. What does she do next? Beelines it to the operating table, where, sprawled out before a beckoning surgeon, she gets her wishes granted without giving away her magic voice box.

So, what procedures did the Little Mermaid opt for? She seems to have gotten the full "Real Housewives" treatment with a boob job and a widened pout. And somehow, the doctors in Venezuela managed to sculpt a pair of sexy human legs outfitted with stilettos out of her mermaid tail. It's so magical!

While people have tried to digitally slim down other "Mermaid" characters in the past, the introduction of cosmetic surgery into the pot is definitely an even more somber message to young girls. The clinic's ad is surely an attempt to be cute, but seriously, Ariel: you look great under the sea as is.

WTF! (Also not to flame her but I always thought Ariel was....not the brightest of the Princess bunch.)

"Supernatural" stars Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Padalecki made their music video debut this summer in this clip for "I Am Human," from Brian Buckley Band's most recent album Hysterical Blindness, released in June 2011.

In some rare downtime between meeting fans at conventions and getting in some quality time with their five-month-old son, Jared and Genevieve collaborated with the band and director Sarah Wilson for the narrative portion of the video, which is intercut with performance footage.

The lyrics aren't on the actual video but they have embedding disabled and this was the only version I could find that I could embed. So yeah, this was released yesterday and it's basically like Instagram: The Music Video.

Nick Offerman Auctioning Off Ron Swanson's Powerful Stache for Charity!

0
0
Charity auctions are commonplace in Hollywood, but next week, something incredible will be up for bid: Ron Swanson's Mustache. That is not a misprint. On Thursday, August 23, some incredibly lucky soul will have possession of the most incredible piece of TV foliage since the Magnum, P.I era. Do not worry: No government employees were harmed in pursuit of this charitable goal.

To help out pediatric cancer charity Because of Ezra, Swanson's real-life alter-ego Nick Offerman went to the trouble (and expense) of having the 'stache he grew and sported during the most recent season of Parks and Recreation professionally shaved. The holy hair was then meticulously reassembled into mustache form and placed upon the upper-lip of an exact replica of Swanson/Offerman's noggin. And then, in order to protect the precious asset in question, Offerman spent a few grand more to enclose this modern shrine behind museum-quality glass. At Thursday's Beverly Hills event, bidding will commence on what is being called The Nick Offerman Mustachium. "My mustache and I are tickled pink to have the opportunity to help raise some funds for this great charity," Offerman told Vulture via e-mail. "My mature bush is also available by private auction, but only serious bidders (Zuckerberg or Romney) need apply."

The Because of Ezra foundation is certainly a good cause. Designed to help children suffering from solid-mass pediatric cancers, it was founded after web businessman Kyle Matthews and his wife Robyn lost their young son Ezra to pediatric cancer. Hollywood talent agency UTA and a bunch of TV industry execs (as well as HBO, CBS and FX) have helped spearhead the annual fundraiser. If you're in LA, you can still buy tickets for the event here. And if you're not? There's still time to jump on a plane and make a bid in person, because: RON EFFING SWANSON'S MUSTACHE.

UPDATE: Can't make it to the auction in person? Send an email to  offermanmustache@gmail.com for info on how you might yet end up owning the Nick Offerman Mustachium.

Macaulay Culkin looking good while out and about

0
0
Just a few short months ago, Macaulay Culkin shocked the world with his pale and skeletal appearance.

But the Home Alone actor seems to have turned a major corner, and is now sporting a fuller frame and healthier complexion.

The New York native, who currently works as a DJ, stepped out yesterday in New York City looking the best he has in a long time.

The allegations said he regularly shoots up heroin and the addictive painkiller oxycodone (dubbed hillbilly heroin).

The report went on to claim Macaulay had turned his Manhattan apartment into a drug den.

Although the reports were immediately denied by the star's spokesperson, Michelle Bega, his estranged father, Kit Culkin, pleaded with his son to seek help before it's too late.

The 67-year-old pensioner - who hasn't spoken to Culkin in 15 years following a row over his £11million fortune - told The Sun: 'I hope that he has the right people looking after him.'

Too distraught to talk any more, Kit's wife, Jeanette, 68, explained the pair fear the former Home Alone actor is 'dying of some disease or heavily into drugs' after seeing disturbing photographs of the star.

Responding to the drug addiction allegations, Culkin's publicist Michelle Bega told MailOnline: 'The report in the National Enquirer that Macaulay Culkin is addicted to heroin and assorted hallucinogenics is not only categorically without merit, but it is also impossibly and ridiculously fictitious.'

The Enquirer claimed Culkin's alleged drug use intensified 18 months ago - around the time he split from long-term girlfriend Kunis, who is now dating Ashton Kutcher.

Two weeks ago, Macaulay was spotted out at Hollywood hot spot Chateau Marmont.

Although he wasn't as skinny as before, his appearance didn't entirely help to end the addiction rumours as he was seen clutching his stomach and appeared to be sick.

Hopefully now the Enquirer will stop running those pics of him from February.
