ICYMI: 4 American swimmers took a cab from a party and stopped at a gas station to pee. They peed on the garden and walls, trashed the place and then tried to leave. The cab driver said he would wait for police as directed by the security guard, the athletes then started cursing and screaming and slammed the cab's door. Bentz picked up a 20 and tried to pay people off with it in a sarcastic voice as if it was a lot of money. The security guard and another worker showed them their credentials and Lochte and Feigen tried to run without paying for damages or the cab fare. Security signed 'stop' and they came back very aggressively. Security pulled his (legal, registered) gun and told them all to sit down (they can be seen sitting in a video), and then immediately put his gun away. They found someone to help translate and the athletes agreed to pay 50 dollars and left.

- Then they made up a story about being robbed at gun point in Rio - police is still investigating why they would do this, but one of the theories is that they were hooking up with women at a party and wanted to hide it from one of their girlfriends (they only arrived at the Olympic Village at 7am).

- Ryan Lochte and James Feigen were the ones who filed the police report about the made-up robbery, although all 4 gave the police versions of the robbery story. Still, the other 2 swimmers were being treated as witnesses. They eventually confirmed that the police's findings were the truth, and not the story about the robbery. There is video evidence of everything and plenty of testimonies from witnesses.

- Lochte is out of the country but Feigen is still here. Both are being formally charged with the crime of filing a false police report.

- Meanwhile Bentz and Conger, who spent the afternoon deposing at the police station, were booed by a crowd of Brazilians when they left. Brazilians yelled "SHAME", "LIARS", "APOLOGIZE". One managed to briefly pull a swimmer's ear.

Amber Heard donates divorce settlement to ACLU and Children's Hospital

-Heard said she’s donating half of the settlement to American Civil Liberties Union, “with a particular focus to stop violence against women"
-Also to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where she has worked as a volunteer for the past ten years.
-She said “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,”
-She is donating the entire 7 million
-ACLU and the Hospital issued statements thanking her for her generosity.

Lochte Up Abroad: Gunnar Bentz and Jack Congler cleared by Brazilian judge to leave Brazil

- After they spent the afternoon deposing before police and confessed that the robbery story was a lie, Rio police and a Brazilian judge returned their passports and they are now free to leave the country

- Bentz and Congler did NOT file a false police report, unlike Ryan Lochte and James Feigen, who DID and have been formally INDICTED. None were indicted for the crime of damaging private property, as the gas station owner has so far declined to press charges

- Bentz and Congler left the police station under the boos of several pissed off Brazilians, who screamed "SHAME", "LIARS", APOLOGIZE" in a veritable Walk of Shame moment. You can watch the video HERE(another angle below)

- Rio's police chief, Fernando Veloso, wants the swimmers to apologize to the locals from Rio for destroying property, behaving aggressively and lying, and to the police for claiming that they were robbed by police officers.

- Police is looking for the women who were partying/hooking up with the athletes in that fateful night. They are considered witnesses in the case.

On Tuesday British track cyclist Laura Trott won her second women's omnium title and a short while later her fiance Jason Kenny won the keirin, bringing their tally to 5 golds for this games (#14 on medal table) and 10 in total (Jason also has a silver from Beijing). 11.m viewers watched him win the keirin in a fairly dramatic race.



- Laura's 4th gold (2 in London) made her the 2nd most successful female cyclist in Olympic history and most successful British woman. She broke a world record last week as part of team pursuit.
- Jason's 6th gold made him joint most successful British Olympian and 27th on all time list. He set a new Olympic record on his sprint qualification lap.

New details around actor and director Nate Parker’s involvement in a 1999 rape case shed a harsh light on the Hollywood apparatus that attempts to soften past transgressions in the name of art, awards, and, above all, profits.




Article highlights the words used by Deadline and Variety on their stories about Nate Parker and how they were used to push a narrative to help the movie during awards season:

"Parker repeatedly emphasizes just how difficult the memory was; in both tellings, he pauses as he recounts the incident. In Deadline: “I stand here, a 36-year-old man, 17 years removed from one of the most painful … [he wells up at the memory] moment in my life. In Variety: “The reality is” — he took a long silence — “I can’t relive 17 years ago. All I can do is be the best man I can be now.” Apart from the repeated emphasis on “17 years ago,” which works to distance him from the allegations, the accounting of the scene can either be read as an accounting of genuine emotion or, less generously, as stage direction."

Anne Helen even credits Oh No They Didn’t in breaking the story about the involvement of Nate Parker in a rape case:

"No trade or mainstream press around the debut of Birth of a Nation included the details of the rape allegations and trial that spanned Parker’s sophomore and junior years at Penn State, from 1999 to 2001. Instead, details of the event resurfaced the way scandal so often does: through the gossip press, where the Cosby allegations also percolated for years. Here they arrived through Oh No They Didn’t, a popular user-run-and-vetted site and one of the most influential blogs to emerge and challenge the mainstream publicity apparatus in the mid-2000s."


She also compares Parker’s case to Allen and Polanski, and the context and perceptions around it:

1.) That the allegations against Allen and Polanski arrived after they had established themselves as behemoths of Hollywood art cinema, not as they were attempting to do so.
2.) That during and after the allegations, neither Allen nor Polanski starred in their films, only directed them, and thus were not the public face of their films.

Taylor Kitsch joins 'American Assassin' playing a villain opposite Michael Keaton and Dylan O'Brien

American Assassin, based on the novel by Vince Flynn, will start filming in September in London and Budapest. Dylan O'Brien will play the lead as CIA assassin Mitch Rapp, Michael Keaton will play O'Brien's mentor. Taylor Kitsch will play opposite the two as the villainous operative.

Michael Custa (Homeland, Dexter) is directing the project. Stephen Schiff (The Americans) wrote the script.

Kitsch is currently filming Granite Mountain with Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, and Jennifer Connelly in New Mexico.

Kitsch was also set to play a role in Xavier Dolan's, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan but has since dropped out of the project.

-Kendall Jenner was granted a temporary restraining order against her long time stalker, Shavaughn McKenzie. Before she moved into her new home, he had shown up at her apartment building several times.
-In a previous incident, he ran into traffic to chase her car as she drove away.
-On Sunday, he was waiting for her by her gate as she pulled into her property. He followed her past the gate and Kendall got back in her car and called Irving Azoff who called the police. The stalker banged on Kendall's car, and she drove off to meet up with friends outside of the property.
-Kendall's statement: "As a result of Mr. McKenzie's repeated harassment and stalking of me, I fear for my life and have suffered, and continue to suffer, emotional distress.
-TMZ reports that she has hired even more security to patrol her yard and sit outside of her home.
