Academy Award nominated producer Michael De Luca
(Moneyball, The Social Network, Captain Phillips) President of Production at Sony, has left the company to sign with Universal to produce the second installment of the Fifty Shades Of Grey saga titled
"Fifty Shades of Grey Darker", the money offered to him was too great to resist (yet they still don't wanna raise Jaime and Dakota's salaries smh). The movie hasn't been officially announced yet but rumor is it will start shooting in the spring of 2016 to be released in Valentine's Day of 2017.
DeLuca released a statement saying:
"There are fantastic things happening at Sony right now. I am crazy about Tom, Doug, Hannah [Minghella] and the whole team here, and there is incredible new energy and optimism about what's going on, so this was a really hard decision for me. I literally wish I could be in two places at once, but the opportunity to resume my producing career right now, including the possibility of continuing on the 'Fifty Shades' trilogy, makes this the right choice for me at this unique moment in time. I look forward to continuing to work with Columbia on my existing productions there."---
Fifty Shades Of Grey just crossed the $400 million mark at the foreign box office last Friday. It's also been estimated that it will reach $566.1 million worldwide by Sunday, making the film
Universal's eighth highest grossing film of all time worldwide. The film's other box office records include:
- Highest-grossing Valentine’s Day release of all time.
- Universal’s biggest R-rated movie ever.
- Biggest opening weekend for a female director ever.
The film budget was only $40M.
